Exporting pdf in preview

I want to rename and save a document in Preview to another location. Why am I unable to do this by going to file>export? The file format is pdf.

You mean the Mac's Preview app?
That is not a reliable way to show your PDF.
Let then use the Adobe Reader

  • Exported PDF looks different in Preview, Adobe Reader

    Hi,
I'm relatively new to InDesign and experiencing all sort of problems. I'm trying to export PDF of my resume in a small size file to send it over the email. However, after exporting when I view PDF document in different applications, it looks different.
    1) In Adobe Reader in 100% view the letters in bold are "jumping". Please see the screenshot below
    2) The colors of the logo come out right when viewed in Adobe Reader. Which is 1st image:
However when viewed in applications such as Preview or just default Mac preview with space bar. The colors of the logo and the contact details comes out completely different then in Adobe Reader.
I export the PDF with the default settings that comes with smallest file size but I need to make sure it looks good as this resume is for my job and will be viewed most probably on the computer. The logo is linked to Adobe Illustator file in InDesign document.
Please help as I spend about 3 hours trying to figure it out. I would really appreciate your help!
    Natalia

    Hi Mike,
Thank you for your answer. I've tried most of the thing you recommended but it doesn't work:
    1) The file was originally created in CMYK and then I converted it to sRGB in InDesign. As well as chose transperency blend space as RGB. As for the logo then the option in Illustrator to convert the file into RGB mode seems to be disabled.
3). Exactly what I was doing.
I don't understand what I'm doing wrong... Is there a way to import all the links from illustrator into InDesign file?

  • IDcs3 export PDF issues when viewing in Preview

I appear to be having issues when exporting PDFs from IDcs3. I have drop shadows on text and objects. When i export as a PDF and view it in 'Preview', I get a shadow that extends the area of the object. Drop shadows are not defined, they just have a block blur effect.
The thing is when I transfer the file over to my MS machine, Acrobat displays the PDF perfectly. Is this a problem with Preview or is it something to do with the export PDF settings.
    Cheers

Preview is not capable of handling the advance features of exported PDFs.

  • Export to pdf in preview

I'm trying to take a bunch of png files and convert it to a pdf file, so I can have all those files in one big pdf file. But since I upgraded to Mountain Lion when I try to export all, in preview, and select the export pdf, it only exports 2 files. Is this a bug?

    this is what I got:

  • Is there a way to export just the Highlights from a PDF in Preview?

I'd like to export, or Copy/Paste all at once all of my Highlights form a PDF in Preview in Mavericks.
    Is this possible?

    Hi,
ExportPDF is just a convertion tool, it is not meant for extracting information out of the form.
You may want to consider Adobe Acrobat.  You can extract information from form fields via Tools> Forms > More Form Options > ExportData.  If you'd like to try it out, we offer a 30-day trial of Acrobat X Professional for Windows here: http://www.adobe.com/go/tryacrobatpro/

  • How to export 'CMYK/Overprint Preview' document to jpeg/pdf?

    Hi all,
Is there any way to export the overprint preview as jpeg/pdf ?
    Thanks.

    Appreciate ur help....
Actually What I want to do is that there is my original document containing some arts or objects like as follows:
Currently doc is set to CMYK/Preview. Now I clicked the menu item Window>Separations Preview where i checked the Overprint preview, this will set my document CMYK/Overprint Preview and I unchecked Cyan, Yellow and Black from separation preview dialog which gave me result like this :
I am trying to export the above overprint preview but every time I got the original one.
I am using AIRasterize suite to get the current state of the document and export it but didnt find any luck. I am also trying to do it on illustrator but I am not able to do i.
So I am just curious can it be doable or not?
    Thanks.

  • How do I edit exported PDF that is now  a word document?

I scanned a word document that is now a PDF in my computer. With acrobat it is apparently exported as a word document in my files.  However, my whole purpose was to edit the doculment that I scanned in the first place.  I cannot edit the exported PDF. How do I do this?  If I can't achieve this goal, the whole subscription is worthless to me!

If an image is embedded within a Word document***, then you can double click on it to bring it into some sort of image editor within Word, and then Copy and Paste it into Preview.
You can create a new document in Preview from the clipboard contents.
*** Why do people use Word files as a container format for images, why???

  • How do I crop a PDF with Preview.

How do I crop a PDF with Preview.
For some strange reason, when I crop a PDF using preview the rest of the PDF is still “their” when opened using other software.
I truly want to crop a PDF and have the uncropped portions completely go away.  Do I really have to open Photoshop to do this?

"there" not "their"  -  unless I am really confused about what you are doing !
I put a white rectangle over what I wanted to crop out of the pdf I was working on.
Not a  proper solution, i then needed to use "export as PDF" of my PDF so that the next user of the document couldn't simply lift off the rectangle I had put on the document to cover what ideally I would have removed.
Add mark up is something else I tried, to black out the text that I wanted concealed, but we are limited to a slim choice of colours, not including black.
I would like to see a function "crop" with "crop inside" and "crop outside" options. I am not familiar with Adobe or other software. Presumably since they invented it, Adobe is the place to go if you have repeated exercises requiring meddling with Adobe documents.

  • Viewing PC-generated pdfs in Preview for Mac

I have a pdf that I generated on a PC (Windows 7, using Acrobat 9). The front cover includes an image that was previously pdf'd then inserted as a cover graphic. When viewed using Acrobat Reader, everything looks fine both on a PC and a Mac. However, when viewed on a Mac using Preview for Mac, there are lines through the cover graphic.
Has anyone else come across problems viewing PC-generated pdfs in Preview for Mac?

I always find that Preview can garble certain graphic elements or even slightly alter the over-all color of the PDF. However, I also find it is a lot quicker to deal with PDFs, especially when it comes to printing. Sometimes I get a PDF that I send to print on our Canon copier and I end up canceling the print job after 10-15 minutes because it's still processing. I open that same PDF in Preview and it prints in less than a minute. The same can be said of InDesign so on certain jobs I end up exporting as a PDF and printing from Preview. This might say a lot about Adobe's Printing Engine... (sorry, off-topic)

  • Trouble with Exported .pdf Files

I created three 20"x30" one-page documents (with iPhoto-sourced images) which saved as 24.7 MB, 19.4 MB, and 10.7 MB files, respectively. I needed to send JPEG files to my service provider for high-resolution prints. Since Pages '08 doesn't have a JPEG-export option, I exported each of them as .pdf files. My plan was to open the .pdf files in Photoshop and save them down as .jpg files. The same path had worked fine with a fourth Pages '08 layout of a 2.25"x3.75" document. With the three 20"x30" files, however, I ran into trouble.
My laptop didn't have enough memory to open the exported .pdf files in Photoshop Elements without suffering some image gray-out. I didn't think that was a problem until we discovered that my service provider couldn't open the files at all (running the current Photoshop on a souped-up system). Arghhh.
I switched to a service provider who can print straight from the .pdf files, but that also brought trouble. Though I could open the files easily in Acrobat 5.0, and they looked great, the service provider (running the current full version of Acrobat) could not open them; all he got was what looked like a blank page.
I don't think the trouble is related to file size, as the business-card document which sailed through without trouble saved as an 11.2 MB Pages file.
Could it be sheet size? That's the only thing I can figure. And why would the files open in Acrobat 5.0 without trouble, but not in the current Acrobat (or Acrobat Professional, which we also tried)?
I ended up "printing" the Pages files as "Save PDF to iPhoto," then exporting the iPhoto image as a maximum-resolution JPEG. The only trouble with that route was that the best I could get was a 200 dpi. When I went through Photoshop (instead of iPhoto) with the business card file, I ended up with a 300 dpi file.
Am I missing something obvious here? Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi,
I don't know if this is the correct answer, but you can open a PDF in Preview and save the document as a JPEG and JPEG-2000. I know that Leopard will also have some neat functionality about this as well. You might also want to look at printing as a postscript file rather than a PDF and then open in Photoshop. I talked with a FEDEX/Kinkos employee yesterday about my book at he stated that Macs use 1.5 while Adobe's Acrobat is 1.7. Leopard should also fix this, but it may not help right now.

  • Combine PDFs using Preview in Mountain Lion (other threads read)

I have reviewed several threads about combining PDFs in Mountain Lion.  I will ultimately learn Automator but for now, I have a relatively simple question:
    1) I open multiple PDFs in Preview, one window per PDF
    2) I drag thumbnail pages from documents 2 through n onto document 1 so that it makes one long document.  ie. one unbroken string of pages and not sections within a PDF
Question:  How do I save this combined document without deleting or affecting the first document?
Duplicate causes one of the uncombined documents to pop up with the filename highlighted.  I don't see how to give the combined document a new filename for saning
Rename gives me a file of the three combined documents but the first document disappears
Save overwrites the first document with the combined document
I must be missing something simple.  I recognize that the lack of "Save As" is a sensitive issue but ultimately, that's what I want to do:  Save the combined document with its own filename and have the individual documents intact.

    ncasey88 and Old Toad:
Thank you for your quick responses.  Unfortunately, with both methods, the first PDF gets updated.
e.g. Files are 1.pdf, 2.pdf, 3.pdf, each is one page long, and I open each in its own Preview window.  I drop thumbnails of 2.pdf and 3.pdf onto the thumbnail area of 1.pdf.  I export or print into a file called 123.pdf
Result:  1.pdf and 123.pdf have the same information (all three files).  2.pdf and 3.pdf are unchanged but 1.pdf is three pages long.

  • The font weight on exported PDF's differs on pages w/ graphics in Acrobat?

    Hi,
I couldn't find anyone addressing this, so here goes...
I just upgraded to iWork '06/Pages 2.02 so I could export PDF eBooks and retain the hyperlinks. Everything is working great, except that when I view the PDFs in Safari with Acrobat Reader (rather than Preview) or on a Win machine with Acrobat reader), pages that have images on them (and sometimes different bolded fonts) affect the weight of the normal article (non-bolded) font. In other words, the normal font will look slightly bolded on pages where there are also images, whereas the weight looks fine (as it did in Pages) on pages where it's only text.
This does not happen while viewing the PDF in Preview. This seems like a bug in the way Pages is compressing the PDF, which seems to be present regardless of the export quality setting used.
Has anyone else encountered this and are there any work-arounds?
    Thanks a bunch!
    -Mark

    Hello Mark
PDF/X-3 (what Save As PDF-X creates) is a standard developed for print with the intention of eliminating compatibility problems for people submitting jobs to outside print services. It ensures that the necessary font subsets are embedded into the PDF. Maybe this is why it fixes your font problems although I've often noticed issues with fonts both on Windows and OS X. Unless you are zoomed in quite close, they can look poor on screen but print quite well. This seems to be an artifact of the viewers and font dependent.
I'm quite surprised that your hyperlinks work. Given that they are for interactive purposes I would have thought that the PDF/X-3 production process would have stripped them out.
I'm not at my Mac right now so I can't verify this but you may be able to create your own PDF workflow with Automator that generates the precise amount of image compression and font subsetting you require for your PDFs.
The end of this thread might give you a start: http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=4300016#4300016
I hope that is of some help.
    Good luck!

  • Export PDF with TOC

If I didn't miss something important, it is currently impossible to add a table of contents (TOC) to the exported PDF that will show up in the sidebar of the Preview application. IMO Pages would be a great tool for publishing manuals and other documentation, but without a TOC in the sidebar, this is completely useless.
Is there perhaps any sort of hack to get around this? (the files are XML, so this doesn't seem entirely impossible). Anyone know of plans that Apple might eventually add this absolutely needed feature?

    Henrik Holmegaard wrote:
This is sound, but it depends on what you are trying to decide. The trouble is that the everyday enduser expects content to be searchable, but below PDF 1.4 there is no support for content structure and even if there is support for content structure in PDF 1.4 there are plenty of preparation processes that produce non-searchable PDF 1.4.
If - or should one say when - the operating system supports creation of searchable content instead of simply supporting Spotlight as a search service, there is still no list for these problems.
    Funny response.
The PDFs generated from Pages are perfectly searchable. As far as I know, when we search in a PDF displayed by Preview, it's not Spotlight which does the duty. Same thing when the document is open with Adobe Reader.
The missing feature is not the search tool, it is the TOC one. It's not a huge task (it was available in the old printToPdf pseudo printer driver under Mac OS 9).
It's just missing because it is supposed to be useless for many of us. Is it really useless, is it really useful ? I don't know the response at statistically meaningful level.
To be honest, when I saw that there are two paths to create PDFs from Pages, my first thought was:
1 - Print in a PDF file generates a flat PDF
2 - Export to PDF is able to generate one with a TOC.
I was wrong but I didn't cry for that. I may live without this feature. Missing the search tool would be more annoying.

  • Export PDF copy/paste problem

When We export PDF from pages document, text can be copied from PDF file like
    "Lorem

    adipiscing
    elit.

    (screenshot: http://bit.ly/qqecp1)
How can we change this and make people copy text in normal way?

    Hello
Something is behaving wrongly on your system.
To be sure, I tested opening the PDF with two applications : Preview and Adobe Reader.
    Some tracks :
    (1) Maybe you have a clipboard "enhancer" installed which plays the fool.
You are the only one knowing if you installed such a tool.
    (2) Maybe something is corrupted.
Try to run Pages from an other user account.
If it behave flawlessly in this new account, the problem is linked to your account.
In such case, it's often the app's preferences file which is corrupted.
    To be sure,
    quit the app
    drag the preferences file :
    <startupVolume>:Users:<yourAccount>:Library:Preferences:com.apple.iWork.Pages.pl ist
    on the desktop
    restart the app for see.

  • Export pdf problem

I have a document which I can't export as a pdf properly. I export it but the pdf it creates is nothing like it's meant to be. It has some graphics missing and several other items are just not there and there is a large area with a green to yellow gradient which just appears as solid yellow. A few of the items are there on the page where they're meant to be but that's all.
If I PRINT to .pdf instead of exporting, it is much better. Everything is at least there and the gradient is fine, but there are scratchy looking lines on the surface of the pdf around some of the graphics. Even thougn in both the export and print I am choosing the highest quality pdf option.
I thought exporting was supposed to be the right way to do it. Why is it behaving like this?
Should I just perhaps always print and forget about exporting?

Your white lines are stitching from flattening the transparency, which always happens when you print to PDF instead of exporting, regardless of the compatibility selected. Distilled PDFs pass through a postscript file which doesn't support transparency.
Some of the problem in your exported PDF may be due to overprint settings. Be sure to enable the overprint preview in acrobat, and if flattening is occurring, you must also enable "simulate overprint" in the export or print dialog settings.
Missing images is sometimes caused by OPI comments. Do you have OPI active, or did anything here come from Quark, where it is on by default?
