Exporting PDF into a usable format or changing embedded fonts

I have inherited a huge PDF document with embedded fonts. I need to export this document as formatted to ANYTHING I can then edit. I don't have all of the original fonts, but I can get close. Here's the problem - everything I try, from what Acrobat Pro can export to and all commercial applications I have tried, fail to render this document into something easily reformatted. Is there anything at all I can try to get this document exported to a usable format?
I have both the Mac and Windows Acrobat Pro, so a solution for either platform would work. If only I could un-embed fonts or change embedded fonts!
Thanks

Do you tried to do a save as "Adobe PDF Files, Optimized". You can click on setting then reduce your file size by many way, including un-embed Font.
If you want to edit your pdf, you can use Adobe Illustrator.
Check also Files--> Properties if your PDF have security setting engaged.

Can you export PDF file into Microsoft Visio?

    Hi Nate,
ExportPDF is only used to convert PDF to Word, Excel, Powerpoint or RTF format. Convert to Microsoft Visio is not possible via ExportPDF.

  • How can i export PDF as a Booklet formate in InDesign?

    Hi,
I am currently working on 48 pages book. Book design is complete and i want to send it to printer as a spread in Booklet formate. how can i export pdf as booklet format?

In this situation we strongly needed PDF in booklet layout. so is there any suggestion for saving that instead of printing?
You have to save a postscript file using the Adobe PDF 9.0 PPD, as Eugene is showing in #6, and distill the .ps file to PDF using Distiller.

  • Problem exporting .pdf to ANY OTHER FORMAT - is it me?!

    Hello,
The seasoned tech person will surely roll their eyes a dozen times while reading about my odyssey...
It started as a project in Pagemaker 7 (I know, I know - I'll definitely be moving to InDesign CS4 after this!). I exported the .pmd file into .pdf and sent the .pdf to a committee for review. When the edits came back, I planned to open my PageMaker files and edit them, then reexport. Well, wouldn't you know I HAVE NO IDEA where I put the most recently edited .pmd files. This is nuts - as I am pretty religious about saving/backing up to at least one device other than my PC. (Note: I checked the last time I sent the draft out and it was 5:15pm on a Thursday, so I must have been in a mad dash to get to happy hour and just got careless...My fault.) Anyway, so now I am stuck with a stupid .pdf and OLD .pmd files.
So, my questions are as follows:
    1. There is no way I can convert a .pdf into a .pmd file is there? I've looked into this and it really doesn't seem so.  Would it then be possible to convert a .pdf into an InDesign file?  Probably not, huh?
    2. Ok, so seeing how I am probably stuck with the .pdf - - I thought I might be able to export it as an .rtf so I could copy and paste the most recent text into my .pmd file so I don't have to do a ton of re-edits.  Brilliant, I thought. You've found a solution!  Um, not so much...
Now I can't export the .pdf as ANYTHING - .rtf, .html, .txt, .doc - - - it all turns into symbols. It tells me that Frankin Gothic Book can't be found and then it lists several numbers after the font (eg: Franklin Gothic Book 11,15,23, etc, etc...).
But I have that font installed on all the programs I use! What is going on! Can anyone help me??
    Thanks so much!
    kate

    Hi! Thanks for your answer!
    Well...
    1. If it were up to me I'd just keep it in the editing software until a final product was ready but I had to send .pdf versions out to people who don't use PageMaker. It was just my own haste that probably led me to send the .pdf out (after 5pm), shut down my PC asap and run off to the bar (or at least that's how I imagine it happened...).  As a rule I back EVERYTHING up to my external or a thumb drive ALWAYS. Evidently not anymore.  Or maybe I just fail to back up the IMPORTANT documents. Arrrgh.
    2. And yes, I checked my work PC, both laptops, my flash drive and external thoroughly and could not find it. I was able to see, in the "Recent Documents' option under the 'File' tab in PageMaker (both at work and on my laptop, weird..) that I had used the files there but when I thought, "OMG YES!!!" and clicked on it, it replied that the file could not be found.
So yeah... Meanwhile, I've found what I hope is a way around my conundrum.  Unable to export the .pdf to .doc or .rtf so I can cut and paste that version into an older version of the .pmd files I've LOST (Franklin Gothic is acting like a JERK... not sure what's going on there...) I downloaded a free .pdf to .rtf converter that didn't have a problem with it.
And so I spend a beautiful afternoon cloistered inside, fixing my stupid mistakes.
Thanks so much for your insights - I really appreciate your help!
    Thanks!

  • When exporting PDF into Excel works great - with one exception

In converting a pdf into an excel document (with 10 columns) all of the columns and the data line up accurately after conversion - except for one of them. 5 of the columns are numerical values and 5 are characters/letters (in mixed order).
The column that does not align is column 9 and it's a text based column. The info from this column appears on it's own line in the first column - which is a numerical field. I have to cut and paste that info and place it in the correct column manually and I realy hope to avoid doing that because this is a 30,000 line long piece of excel data!. It is formatted perfectly in the pdf version and only is a problem when I convert it into excel.
Anyne ever have the same issue that found a fix? Any suggestions or ideas?

Maybe not available with Mac? Don't know.
With Windows, select, right click & it is on the context menu.
    Be well...

  • Poppler based pdf viewers don't seem to honor embedded fonts anymore?

I apologize if this thread is misplaced. I realize poppler is not in [testing], but since I ride [testing] and recently got the new xorg/mesa update that I believe may have indirectly prompted this breakage, I figured my thread would end up here anyway.
After a recent upgrade, libpoppler based pdf viewers don't seem to render pdfs with embedded fonts quite right anymore.
The last time I opened this pdf in evince was two or so weeks ago, and I just now noticed that evince has begun rendering it oddly. Here you can see some comparison screenshots between a ghostscript-based pdf reader (mupdf) and evince:
    Screenshot 1,  Screenshot 2,  Screenshot 3,  Screenshot 4.
Unfortunately, I've been pulled away from my laptop for the last few weeks, and when I did an -Syyu recently, I had a fairly huge amount of packages to upgrade (making this issue even harder to debug ). If anyone wants to take a look at my pacman log, here's the log from the recent huge upgrade. And yes, I realize ghostscript, evince, poppler/poppler-glib and libspectre are in there.. but when I reverted to their original revisions from /var/cache/pacman/pkg, I still had the same symptoms.
Sorry if I've overlooked anything glaringly obvious. I'm sleep deprived at the moment... though, if anyone has any suggestions on where to proceed trying to debug this issue from here, I'd really appreciate it... and thanks for taking the time to read this.

I'm fine with the reader's reader substituting Times for Times New Roman, Helvetica for Arial, etc. As you can see from the pub, precise typography isn't all that important.
But you have no way to ensure that even those fonts are available on the viewer’s computer. Even if they are, how do you know how the substitution will occur? If I just replace every glyph (letter, numeral, symbol, etc.) in one font with another, but leave the glyphs where they are I might make the text unreadable.
100 kb is a pitifully small threshold for saving a file for offline viewing. Unless this is meant to be read in Kazakhstan, then I’d ignore this arbitrary file size limit.
About the hyperlinks issue when distilling a PostScript file: there’s nothing you can do about that, since PostScript files do not support hyperlinks. But you can export a PDF with hyperlinks, then Distill a PostScript file. Open the exported PDF and use Document > Replace Pages. Replace all the pages in the open (exported) PDF with all the pages in the Distilled PDF. Hyperlinks will remain.

  • Why are some pics exporting(usually into Bridge) from LR with changes I didn't do?

I use Bridge to route my exports from LR3.  Recently a random few of the files that appear just as I had edited them in LR gallery or develope modes, show up with some radical changes when viewed elsewhere following export.  One had it's levels or exposure blown wide open in Bridge and the other one went from the blue tint I created in LR to some really sickly yellow tint in Bridge.  Is this something Bridge is doing or LR3?  Pretty sure I had a recent update too...

Sorry I just realized the above links provide instructions for setting up older versions of Lightroom. All the advise is accurate, just the LR menu setup instructions are dated. Here's a link for setting up LR 3:
    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/Lightroom/3.0/Using/WS638E3AC9-A04C-4445-A0D3-F7D8BA5CDE37.htm l
To automatically write adjustments and settings metadata to XMP: Select Automatically Write Changes Into XMP.
To write XMP metadata to files already inported into LR: Select one or more photos in the Grid view of the Library module and choose Metadata > Save Metadata To File(s), or press Ctrl+S (Windows) or Command+S (Mac OS).

  • Export PDF into photo library on iPhone

Does anyone know of an app or hack to send a PDF file to iPhone's photo library, whether it be an application from App.store or cydia? Can't understand why this hasn't been developed due to the fact it can be sent through MMS faster and messages relayed back quicker than mail.

As far as I know, third party apps do not have access to the photo library.
There are apps that allow for storage of docs via wi-fi.
Discussion of "hacks" is not permitted here.

  • Oswald font changes every time I export PDF

    Hi,
Every time I export to PDF I get a totally different font. The font I'm using is Oswald.
I thought Pages was supposed to embed fonts automatically?
It doesn't matter if I export to PDF or go to Print and Save as PDF. In both cases it changes the font.
    Any tips?
    Thanks!!
    Anja

    Hello Anja,
There may be an issue with your Mac's font cache. Shutting your Mac down, then starting up in Safe Mode (by holding shift when starting up), then restarting once more will reset the font cache and may help get your exported PDFs to have the correct font.

  • Pdf into link

Just getting started here. I'm wondering if I can make a pdf into a usable httpS link so people can down load my document by filling out a form. thanks

The best method is to first add an Go To URl interaction from the interactions panel. You can enter the url to the pdf. If you know the full url of the PDf you want to show, you can enter the complete url here and it should work. However, if the url is unknown or you want to use a relative path, then you will have to user Flash Builder.
You might want to also select the Open in New Window option.
Please note that once you open your Flash Catalyst 1.0 project in Flash Builder you will be unable to reopen it in Flash Catalyst. Once you have opened the project in Flash Builder, look for some ActionScript within the <fx:Script> tag that looks like this:
         navigateToURL( new URLRequest( encodeURI("http://theURLtoThePDF")), "_blank");
and change the "http://theURLtoThePDF" to what you need it to be, then republish the swf from Flash Builder.
As for the Illustrator issue, there is a limit to the file size and complexity. You might want to try simplifying the layers and grouping with the file. I am more of a Photoshop user, so that is about as far as I can go to help on that issue.
    Good Luck!

  • Export PDF rgb warning?

    Hello,
Working on CS5 on a mac..
I have defined a working preflight profile that will give an error message when RGB images are used in the document.
This is usually enough to ensure no RGB images slip through the net when I export PDFs,
but is it possible to change preferences so that Indesign will give a warning pop-up if I try to export a PDF,
like how it does to warn of missing fonts?
    Thanks very much in advance.
    Ben

@Ben – it's always better to do another preflight in AcrobatPro.
So you can be sure nothing slipped through…
And: do not rely on preflight for all problems. Check your pages in Output Preview in AcrobatPro page by page, toggle [Black] separation on/off, "Total Area Coverage", "Color Warnings" …

  • Importing a WinHelp project into RH 8 HTML changes the fonts in all my styles

I am trying to import a WinHelp project created with RH 8 for Word into RH 8 HTML. I have noticed two major things:
    1. The first topic is preceded by the names of many fonts. At the end of these set of fonts, my topic appears. I am attaching a partial view of these fonts below:
    Arial;Courier New;Symbol;Helvetica;Courier;Tms Rmn;Helv;New York;System;Wingdings;MS
Mincho ;Batang ;SimSun ;PMingLiU ;MS Gothic ;Dotum ;SimHei ;MingLiU ;Mincho ;Gulim
    ;Century;Angsana New;Cordia New;Mangal;Latha;Sylfaen;Vrinda;Raavi;Shruti;Sendnya;Gautami;Tunga;Estrangelo
    Edessa;Cambria Math;Arial Unicode MS;Cambria;Calibri;Tahoma;CG Times ;Univers ;Times;Verdana;CommonBullets;Webdings;WP
MathA;Adobe Caslon Pro Bold;Adobe Caslon Pro;Adobe Fangsong Std R;@Adobe Fangsong
Std R;Adobe Fan Heiti Std B;@Adobe Fan Heiti Std B;Adobe Gothic Std B;@Adobe Gothic
Std B;Adobe Heiti Std R;@Adobe Heiti Std R;Adobe Kaiti Std R;@Adobe Kaiti Std R;Adobe
    Garamond Pro Bold;Adobe Garamond Pro;Birch Std;Blackoak Std;Brush Script Std;Chaparral
    Pro;Charlemagne Std;Cooper Std Black;Giddyup Std;Hobo Std;Kozuka Gothic Pr6N B;@Kozuka
    Gothic Pr6N B;Kozuka Gothic Pr6N EL;@Kozuka Gothic Pr6N EL;
    2. All Topics are imported as far as I could tell at a glance, but all the fonts have changed. I used styles based on the Normal_RWH.dot template that has been modified.
Anyone can tell me how to recover my fonts besides doing so manually?
    Thanks,
    Esperanza

It sounds like the first problem is related to Snippet 56.
    http://www.grainge.org/pages/snippets/snippets.htm
My guess is you just delete the unwanted text.
To correct the styles you may be lucky and just have to go into the Style Editor and change the font for each style. If not you will need to look at the HTML and you will likely find an inline style sheet in the topics and maybe even inline styling. Sorting that out will depend on your knowledge of HTML.
Snippet 104 may also help you.
Post back if more help needed when you have worked through that.

  • How do I change the font size on Adobe Reader 8.1.2

I recently purchased an HP  laptop running Vista. It came with Adobe Reader 8.1.2.  I can't change the font size in a form that I am filling out.  I can cut& paste a different font size into the form but not change the font size.  Someone said that it is a free download so I won't be able to change the font size. Does anyone know a fix?

To change the font size in PDF forms, one needs to have Adobe Acrobat rather than Adobe Reader.
