Exporting Photos in order

I have exported over 400 photos taken on two different cameras from a quick collection. They are sorted by capture time and I have changed the order of a few photos as well. When I export it seems that I get all the photos from one camera and then all the photos from the other camera rather than a mixture of the two sets of photos in a sequential order.
I assume that I have made some sort of basic error but cant work it out - any suggestions gratefully accepted!
Andy

Hi Andy_j, what are you using to sort these two sets of photos. And I'm sorry if this is a dumb question, but were photos from the two cameras taken during the same time period?

  • How to export photos in order

Yay!  I finally found out how to keep the photos in your albums in the correct order when you export the album! I am fortunate to have AppleCare so I decided to call them after trying to figure this out for years.
The fellow on the phone said he'd had others call about this and that he and a caller figured it out, trial and error. I suggested they add it to the user guide for the rest of us!
    Here you go:
    1. Select your album and all the photos in it.
    2. Go to Export under File
    3. Change File Name option to Sequential
    4. Where it says "Prefix for Sequential" type in the exact name of your album.
That's it! When you hit Export, the photos stay in perfect order! Yay! Thanks Applecare guy!

    Another way:
Make an Album of the photos, then drag the pics into your preferred order.
Then Photos Menu: Batch Change -> Set Title to Text "John's Birthday", for instance, and tick the box to append a number to each Photo. Now your photos are titled 'John's Birthday 001, John's Birthday 002 ... etc'
Then File -> Export and in the Export dialogue set the Filename to "Use Title"
Sort on Filename in the FInder and you end up with a folder full of images in the same order as the Album in iPhoto.

  • How do i export photos to a sd card in the order I arranged them in

My mother and I are putting together a digital picture frame album using an sd card. The pictures are in order in an album in iphoto, and a folder on my desktop, but when we drag the folder to the sd card and insert it into the frame the pictures are not in the order we arranged them. The pictures are always out of order. Any help is greatly appreciated, THANKS!

Think about how computers work - file do not have "an order" you view them with a program that puts them in an order - in the finder this may be by file name, creation date, modification date, size, etc - in iPhoto it can be by a manual sort, by photo date, etc
So the solution is to understand and see how the photo frame orders photos adn then export the files using something that keeps that order - for example if you are going to be viewing them in date order then manually sor tthem and use the batch change date/time command to set them to accending dates so the photo frame displays the way you want
The order the photo frame displays has nothing to do with iPhoto but you probalby can use iPhoto to set photo or file attributes to accomplish what you want

  • How to export photos with titles in chronological order. Checking box for title and keyword doesn't seem to work

I want to export a group of JPEG photos including titles in the order in which they were taken.  Checking the box to include titles and key words seems not to work.

    You can not
exporting creates files - files have no order - the order is set by the program you use to view them - for example in the finder you can view files by the date created, date modified, size, alpha, etc
So to control the order when viewing in the finder you must have an attribute that the finder can sort on set - the most common way to export photos in a specific order is to make an album in iphoto in the order you want and then export the album using the sequential naming option of the export command - then view them in the finder using a alpha sort - Exporting From iPhoto
However since you want to retain your existing title that will not work for you

  • In PSE12, how do I save captions when I export photos to a CD?  And how do I keep them in the proper order instead of them becoming all jumbled up?

I have PSE12 and when I export photos to a CD, the captions disappear.  How do I keep my captions on the photos?  Also, how do I keep the photos in the order I want them instead of them getting all jumbled up?
Thank you for any help you can give.

  • EXPORT PHOTOS IN SEQUENCE.

Let's say I have a iPhoto folder with 200 pictures in it. I want to copy it somewhere--let's say on a Flash Drive. I have taken great care to have these pictures arranged and titled. They are arranged in exactly the order that I would want them to be shown in Slideshow for example.
What happens when the pictures appear on the Flash Drive? The order I have placed them in has been lost. They are now in alphabetical sequence. Totally useless.
In the EXPORT PHOTOS menu, under FILE NAME there is a place to click SEQUENTIAL. Aha! That's what you have to do: click SEQUENTIAL. Fine, except now all the File Names that I've assigned to all the pictures disappear. So, the pictures are in proper sequence but the File Names which I would like to display have gone.
Isn't there some way to have the photos exported in the correct sequence AND AT THE SAME TIME have the File Names appear???
Incidentally, for some reason everything I've written about here seems to apply only to fairly large folders. If I try to export a folder with just six pictures, the proper sequence is maintained and the proper File Names appear.

    If I am trying to

sn't there some way to have the photos exported in the correct sequence AND AT THE SAME TIME have the File Names appear???
No. The Finder uses either the file date created or modified or the file name to sort files. If you don't change the file names to be sequentially the Finder will have no idea how you want them sorted.
A workaround would be to manually add a sequential number to the beginning of every file, i.e. 001-, 002-, etc. A lot of work however. You would need to use at least 2 digits if you have less than 100 photos and 3 digits for 100 or more.

  • Photos change order when burning to disc

I have created a separate album of photos that I want to burn to a CD. When I do so, some of the photos change order. I have tried to delete those photos and then re-add them to the album, but to no avail. I have also tried to change their date so that they are chronologically in the right order, but this doesn't help either. Any help would be truly appreciated. I want to give this CD to my father for Christmas. Thanks!!

    Hi Tom,
You should be able to make a slidshow almost as easy as what you're trying to do right now... it'll take some pratice
Personally, I have both exported a slideshow from iPhoto to iDVD and also created a slideshow directly in iDVD, the latter is a better fit for what you're doing.
Open iDVD, create new project, name as you like and save, will auto open to work window, click on 'customize', pick a theme you like. Now click on 'Map' and in the customize pane click on 'Media'. In the media pane you have itunes, photos and movie, select photos... you're iPhoto library will appear along with all the albums you might have created and organized. Here's what makes it sweet, you can drag each album into the 'Map' Theme icon and it will automatically import and turn into a slideshow and take on the name of the album... to see your progess hit the Preview button... you'll have to do a little learning and tweaking, you can add music etc., but that's it, you made a slide show ready to burn to a dvd...
My suggestions would be to organize albums as you like, named appropriately and just have fun with it. You can save and go back and edit at a later date. Use the highlight and delete or cut options to remove etc etc etc...
You can burn project using the File > Burn DVD option or you can save the FINAL production use the File > Save As Disk Image option, and you can burn the DVD through disk utility which will give you more options on burn speed and buring at 1x speed may yield the best results...

  • Exporting Photo

I had a need to upload some photos in the iphone (iphone4, IOS 4.2.1) to a web page. I imported the photos into iPhoto (iPhoto 9, Mac OS X 10.6.6) and then exported them as .jpeg. When I imported them into the web page I was working with they would sometimes show the photo but also show navigation bars at the top and bottom of the iPhone screen. These bars show on the iPhone when you tap on the photo in order to return to the Camera roll, go to next photo, etc.
Obviously this graphic stuff is being exported with the photo as what? Additional frame, part of the meta data?
So does anyone know how to process the photo to suppress this stuff?
    Thanks, John Shanks

    o-t j:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. I'm sure I've seen this same subject discussed. Do a search in the form for "iPhoto Keynote" and see what you get.
A workaround might be using the "Save PDF to iPhoto" option under the PDF menu button in the Print window. A jpg of each file will be created and added to iPhoto. You can then drag those jpgs into the Keynote window to add as desired.

  • IPhoto 09no thumbnails in exported photos

I just upgraded to iPhoto 09, and find that exported photos no longer have the thumbnail in their EXIF data.  Help?!

I've just tried to duplicate the problem with the iPhoto 8.1.2 library and app and have been unable.
Try this:  launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library.  Import some photos and check to see if the same problem persists. If the problem persists in the test library do the following:  make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home()/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
         User/Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto.  You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
If the new library preserves the thumbnail on exported photos then your current library is damaged. In that case  make a temporary, backup copy (select the library and type Command+D) and apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • How to keep photos in order i have them on Iphoto album when I burn a CD?

How can I keep my photos in the order I have them on IPHOTO in albums when I burn them to a CD.
They do not stay in order, but scatter all over the CD.   I number them starting at 1 using no 0 nor double
numbers.  When I need a double number I use a letter,  like 9f.
How can I keep the people's names under the photos when I burn a CD?

Files on disk have no order - the order is supplied by the viewing program (like the finder) - for example using the finder you can view the same set of files in alpha order, by size, by date created, etc, etc - so all you can do is give the files an atribute that the viewing program can use and tell the viewer what view options to use - you have no control over it
The most common way to do this is to export photos using the sequential file name option (see the user tip on exporting fro details on the available options) and then have the viewer view in alpha sort

  • Exporting photos using titles organises the photos alphabetically

    Hello,
I've created an album in iPhoto 08 (v7.1.5) and re-named all of these photos. I've tried to export them to a folder in my documents using Title as the File Name.
The problem is that, when the photos export into the folder, the order I originally had is gone and the photos are sorted alphabetically.
I want to keep the exported photos in the original order as per the album. Is this possible?
    Thanks.

In the finder you can sort by a number of ways including date created, date modified, etc or you can export the photos form iPhoto using the sequential numbering option so that an alpha sort is the same as the iPhoto sort

  • How can I export photos from my iPad or iPod to my main computer or hard drive. My old computer died and I want to get my photos onto my new computer. Thanks in advance.

HOw can I export photos from my iPad or iPod to my main computer? My old computer died with my photos on it but I want to move my photo library from my iPad or iPod to the computer I just bought. Thanks for any help you can give.

Sorry but your iPhoto library is not on an iPad or iPod - you may have photos there (most likely low resolution copies) but not an iPhoto library - dying computers (along with software and human errors) are why you always must have a backup - now is the time to load it

  • How do I export photo's from one user acct. to another user acct

Trying to export photo's from one user acct. to another user acct. on same computer into second users Iphoto app.

File -> Export to the destop. Drag to Users/Shared Folder and then import from other account.
    Or use iPhoto Sharing:
For iPhoto 09 (version 8.0.2) and later:
If you want the other user to be able to see the pics, but not add to, change or alter your library, then enable Sharing in your iPhoto (Preferences -> Sharing), leave iPhoto running and use Fast User Switching to open the other account. In that account, enable 'Look For Shared Libraries'. Your Library will appear in the other source pane.
Any user can drag a pic from the Shared Library to their own in the iPhoto Window.
Remember iPhoto must be running in both accounts for this to work.
If you want the other user to have the same access to the library as you: to be able to add, edit, organise, keyword etc.
Quit iPhoto in both accounts. Move the Library to the Users / Shared Folder
(You can also use an external HD set to ignore permissions, a Disk Image or even partition your Hard Disk.)
In each account in turn: Double click on the Library to open it. (You may be asked to repair the Library Permissions.) From that point on, this will be the default library location. Both accounts will have full access to the library, in fact, both accounts will 'own' it.
However, there is a catch with this system and it is a significant one. iPhoto is not a multi-user app., it does not have the code to negotiate two users simultaneously writing to the database, and trying will cause db corruption. So only one user at a time, and back up, back up back up.

    As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?
