Exporting Photos out to go back to iPhoto 4

I have a quick question: if I export all my photos in their original state out of iPhoto5, trash iPhoto5 and re-install iPhoto4, when I import the photos back into iPhoto4 will they lose their dates? I know I'd lose my albums doing it this way, but will the photos lose their basic info or will they appear in iPhoto4 in the exact same order they were in in iPhoto5?

They very well might, not sure. You can test it by creating a test iPhoto 5 library and exporting a few to the desktop and then import into the test library.
Another possible way to go back would be to create a new library when you get iPhoto 4 up and running at 4.0.3 and then use the File->Import menu option to navigate to the old library folder and select it to import. That has a good chance of retaining a lot of the roll information.
Another method would be to use iPhoto Library Manager. After creating a new v4 library use IPLM to try to merge the old library into the new one. If it will work between two different versions of the library folder you'll be able to retain keywords, rolls, albums, etc. But being different version folders is iffy. You can contact the developer and see if it will work that way before purchasing the full version which is required.
In regards to your slow operation with V5, what camera do you have? See this thread regarding that: Eric Lindsay, "What can be done about slowness?" #34, 07:05am Jul 26, 2005 CDT. if you think that's the problem here's a page at MacOSXHints that describes and offers some AppleScripts to remove that meta data and reconstruct the library: Clean up the meta data in iPhoto's dB file. Once you're at that page select the option to flatten the thread so you can see the original post and all the commends. Be sure to read all the comments because there are some other hints in there.

For reasons best left unsaid, in a recent rebuild of my iMac and Time Capsule, I lost all my photos. I do however have them all currently on my iPad. Is it possible to retrieve my photos from the iPad back to iPhotos (now Photos) on my iMac?

have the photos on the iPad been taken with the iPad camera or imported using the camera connection kit?
Or have they been synced to the iPad with iTunes?
You can download any photos to your mac by connecting the iPad by USB to to your Mac and import to Phots, but this way only photos from the Camera Roll will be imported.  If your photos have been synced with iTunes, you can only mail them to your mac.
See:  iOS: Syncing photos using iTunes
You can't reimport pictures synced from your computer to your device back to your computer. You can only import pictures taken by your device, or saved to it, from your device to your computer. If you need to retrieve synced photos from your device, email the photos from the device to yourself. Then download the photos from the emails to your computer.

  • Post Mac Crash - Recovering Photos from iPod touch back to iPhoto

I could really use some help because I don't want to lose the pictures I have left on my iPod Touch. Thus I won't sync until I know exactly what I am doing so that I don't erase what's on the iPod Touch.
Several weeks ago my Mac completely crashed and no recovery could recapture my photos in iPhoto. I do regularly backup and have most of my older files safe and sound but I lost the pictures I had since my last backup (almost a year's worth). However, I do have some of those "lost pics" on my iPod Touch as I synced them there (full sizes and all). Is there some way to get them back into iPhoto? I have reconnected the iPod Touch to the Mac hoping to see it as a hard drive and manually pull the photos over but apparently it does not recognize the iPod touch that way. Within iTunes I can not upload the photos either.
Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
    Cheers,
    -J

Talked to Apple support and they recommended third party support to find a solution. One option I found is TouchCopy @ $24.95. Here is the link http://www.wideanglesoftware.com/touchcopy/?gclid=CMuQ85XZ4ZgCFRWbnAodJSjjcg
If I find out anything else, I'll update.

  • HT3737 How do I move photos off my desktop & back into iPhoto?

I have multiple photos sitting on my desktop.  If I move them to the trashcan on the dock, will they be deleted from iphoto?

The photos originated from iphoto and were dragged onto my desktop.  I was then dragging them to the trash when I didn't need them there anymore.  Somehow I lost some of the photos and cannot find them on iphoto. But you are saying tht if they were originally imported into iphoto, then dragging them into trash will not delete them from iphoto?

  • How to export photo out of iPhoto environment?

I want to upload some of the pictures in an album in the internet and I do not get the proper information for me to do it. It seems that Apple has closed it to keep it inside their environment in order to force people to print it with them, or not to be able to manage it out of this application what makes from this a Nazi app since it keeps you out of being able to do what you want with your own photos. Apple keeps users hostages of it. It is far from being at least a little fair. Come on Apple!

There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:   You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Command-Click for selecting multiple pics.
(Note the above illustration is not a Finder Window. It's the dialogue you get when you go File -> Open)
You can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:
There's a similar option in Outlook and many, many other apps.  If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
If you want to access the files with iPhoto not running:
For users of 10.6 and later:  You can download a free Services component from MacOSXAutomation  which will give you access to the iPhoto Library from your Services Menu.
Using the Services Preference Pane you can even create a keyboard shortcut for it.
For Users of 10.4 and 10.5 Create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use this free utility Karelia iMedia Browser
    Other options include:
Drag and Drop: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
File -> Export: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
Show File:  a. On iPhoto 09 and earlier:  Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.    3.b.
b: On iPhoto 11 and later: Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Reveal in Finder -> Original. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.

  • Exporting Photos of a specific size from iphoto 08?

    Hi,
I just upgraded my iPhoto and I'm trying to export some pictures for a website that specifically requires jpegs with a maximum pixel size of 600pix on the longest dimension (it also has a file size limit, but I'm not sure what that is).
In the old iPhoto I could simply specify this in the "export file" window, but this new iPhoto only seems to allow for "small," "medium" or "large" export. I don't see anything anywhere that lets me decide what size I want my photos exported (I admit that I find it a bit strange that this functionality was removed, and seriously hope that this is not the case). Is there some way that I can do this?
Alternately, can anyone give me an idea of what file and pixel sizes are associated with these "small, medium and large" options are?
    TIA
    Robin

    Robin:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Easy to do. Just use the File->Export->File Export menu option. While in the File Export pane select JPG as the format so you can set the pixel dimensions you want like this. The photos will be resized and saved to the location of your choice, usually a folder on the desktop works best.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • How to export photos AND settings into a new iPhoto library

    Hello,
My iPhoto library is becoming humongeous (slow, risk of corrupting the file etc), hence I'd like to split it into various libraries (which I can manage with the very useful iPhoto Library Manager (shareware)).
How can I export not only the photos themselves, but their settings (metadata), i.e. Albums and Events, perhaps even slideshows.
    Any ideas/pointers/suggestions are most welcome.
    Cheers,
    Veit (from Austria)

Here is what I found in the iPhoto Library Manger's Help section: indeed the "elegant way" to copy pix AND their metadata. Many thanks for being so helpful.
    Cheers,
    Veit
    Copying Albums
When keeping your photos separated in multiple libraries, you sometimes have the need to move a set of photos from one library to another. With iPhoto, the only way to do this is to export the photos from one library and then import them into another. However, in the process of doing this, you lose all the data you've worked to assign to your photos, such as titles, dates, keywords, and ratings. iPhoto Library Manager provides a way to copy photos from one library to another without losing this valuable information.
An album of photos can be copied from one library to another by dragging the album(s) you want to copy from the albums list in the main iPhoto Library Manager window and dropping them onto the library you would like to copy them to. iPhoto Library Manager will first collect the information about those photos from the source library, and then import those photos into the destination library and restore all the photo information as it was before. If a photo has been modified in the original library, then the original version of the photo will also be transferred to the destination library, so that the "Revert to original" command in iPhoto will work as expected. If you drag more than one album at once, and a photo belongs to more than one of those albums, the photo will only be imported once, but will be added to all the appropriate newly created albums in the destination library.
Some notes on what will and won't be copied when copying albums between libraries: [and so on ...]

  • Getting photos from Apple TV back to iPhoto

I have just loaded all my photos to Apple TV, a family member accidentally erased my entire iPhoto album from my iMac and from the TRASH, about 1,500 pics. I have disabled the sync on my Apple TV so I would not loose them on my Apple TV, is there a way I can get the photos off Apple TV or download them so I can get them back onto my iMac?
Thank you in advance for the help
    kpr

That kind of depends on whether or not the links to the photos still exists in itunes. I know that with movies and tv shows I can copy the files to an external HDD for backup and delete them from the itunes/Movies folder but not deleting the items from the itunes library from within the application. After syncing the movies and shows on Apple TV are still intact. Not sure if photos work the same way.
You will not be able to get the photos off the ATV without cracking the case but they are still there to be viewed. If the data is really important I wouldn't hesitate to open the box and void the warranty. Another apple TV is a bargain compared to losing one of a kind data. Who says it wouldn't work once you put it back together?

  • Why do my saved / exported photos out of Lightroom have a little red dot on them?

My edited photos in Lightroom look great.  But once I export them and take a look with another program (Photo Mechanic or Previewer), I see a little red dot on the photos.
I have the latest version of Lightroom downloaded (5.7) and have tried restarting the program and re-exporting the photos but no dice.
After further investigation via Google, I think this red dot is a "hot pixel" as it is showing up in every photo in the same spot.  Apparently this is caused by my camera sensor but I'm confused by this as my RAW files do not show the red dot, only when the photos have been converted to JPGs can you see it.  Stumped.

Please show us a screen capture.

  • Exported photos from Lightroom 4 to my Iphoto are not the edited.

    Hi !
I',m in real trouble here. I've just edited my recent vacation photos to Lightroom and exported to my computer. Looking at the pictures i've noticed that are the original, not the edited versions. Decided to do it all again, but took the wrong decision of deleting my files in my computer. Started all over again, exported the files but same results, the edited photos were not exported. Any advice of what to do? I'm really desperate. Thanks for any advice.
    Gilberto

Normally you copy photos from the camera card to a folder on your hard drive or external hard drive.
If an external drive is not connected to the computer you see ! on the thumbnails.

  • When I export photos from Aperture, the pixel dimensions are halved thus losing data.  I have set the export preferences to export at original size, to no avail.  This happens even if I just drag to the desktop and then back, or if I export into my iphoto

When I export photos from Aperture to desktop or iphoto I lose pixels.  The pixel dimensions are halved, despite setting the export preference to export at original size.  Anyone know why or how to correct this?

Dragging an Image from Aperture exports the Preview.  Preview parameters are set on the Previews tab of Aperture preferences.
Are you seeing the same results when you export using one of the export commands?
Is so, confirm that the settings in the selected Image Export Preset ("Aperture➞Presets➞Image Export") truly represent those in the Image Export Preset's name.

  • HT201302 How to import photos that are imported from itunes back to iphoto?

I had imported photos from Itunes( Iphoto ) to my iphone and i deleted all the photos in Iphoto. Now I wanted to control some of the photos but I can't! If I sync photos again, all the photos will be gone. So I wanted to import the photos in my Iphone back to Iphoto. Anyone knows how?

The iTunes transfer process for photos from your computer is a one way transfer process only. Photos transferred from your computer are optimized for viewing on the iPhone - the original resolution is changed/lowered, which is why transferring these photos in the opposite direction is not supported.
There are some 3rd party paid utilities that provide for transferring these photos in the opposite direction but the original resolution of these photos deleted from your computer will be lost and the 3rd party utilities are not supported by Apple.
