Exporting photos to the desktop

I want to be able to email photos from the iphoto area and drag them to the desktop. Will they be gone from the iphoto area if I do this and will I have to drag them back to iphoto?

Johanna
Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
My guess is that - somehow - the chess app has been made the default for viewing pic. To correct this, export a pic to the desktop, and then select it and go File -> Get Info
On the 'Open With' Pane Select Preview as the app, and then click on the 'Change All' button. This will make Preview the default app for viewig the pics.

  • Dragging photos to the desktop problem

Hi, would anyone know why I can't suddenly drag my latest photos to the desktop, while the rest of my photos can be dragged just fine? thanks a lot

It's not a bug but probably a font problem.  iPhoto requires the Helvetica Neue font for it's operation.  So launch Font Book and make sure you have the  Helvetica Neue font.  If you have it, deactivate it, close Font Book, reopen font book, find the Helvetica Neue font and reactivate it.
Then launch iPhoto and try again.

  • How can you export photos using the USB connector?

I am on vacation and trying to export photos from the iPad to a flash drive using the connector I bought from Apple.  It doesn't seem to allow this function.  Do I need an app to help with this?  Thanks.

    Hi there,
The iPad Camera Connection Kit can only import images from cameras or SD cards, onto your iPad. It cannot operate the other way.
It does not support most flash drives anyway.
I urge you to submit feedback to Apple on this matter:

  • I'm suddenly not able to drag certain photos to the desktop... Why?

I've been using iPhoto '08 (currently v. 7.1.5) for a few years and never had any issues until recently. Some photos I can drag to the desktop with no problem (old photos, recent imports, edited, it doesn't seem to matter). But some photos won't drag and drop -- I get the white circle with the slash through it. I can select the same photo and choose File>Export and that works fine. At the same time that issue started, I noticed another problem. I am sometimes not able to cut a photo from one event and paste it into another. Again, it is only affecting some photos (not all), and it doesn't seem to matter if they are old, new, edited, etc. I move photos in this way a LOT so this is really driving me crazy! I'm not sure if these issues are related, but it seems like they may be since they started at the same time. Any help would be appreciated. Please type slowly and use small words -- I only know enough to be a danger to my Mac. Thanks!

Not long after I posted my question, my hard drive completely failed. Needless to say, I didn't get a chance to try out your suggestion. Since I wasn't using Time Machine, it has taken my until just this month to get all my photos back into iPhoto. There were a few issues getting things back to normal (as far as recreating events and such), but so far I haven't had any problems with dragging photos where I want them. Not sure if it was the hard drive causing the issue to begin with or not. Either way, thanks for the info. If the problem comes back I will definitely give that a try.

  • How can I drag a photo to the desktop

How can I drag a photo to the desktop

    Assuming you are using iPhoto....
You want to select the event that has the photo in it then click once on the photo so it is highlighted with a yellow ring around it and then click and drag it to the desktop.
If you are finding it difficult to move the file that way you can select the picture in iPhoto and select
File > Export (Command + Shift + E) and select how you want to export it (format) and where you want to put it .
    Hopefully this helps you.

  • How do I export photos in the act size desired?

I'm just starting to use iPhoto 08. I tried to export a photo and instead of being able to make the photo the exact size that I want ( a feature that the previous version of iPhoto had), I was given only the following choices: Low, Medium, High, Maximum. Being limited to those four choices is not an improvement! Am I missing something? Is it still possible to make an exported photo the exact size desired by using a different command??
    Please advise, and thank you.
    Diana

In the File -> Export dilogue:
Kind: Jpeg (or anything except Original or Current)
Then the Size drop down becomes available. Choose between Small, Medium, Large, Full Size or CUSTOM allows you most control.
The Low -> High parameter refers to the level of compression on the file.

  • Exporting photos for the internet

In the aperture preferences, what are the setting for exporting photos so they are web page friendly?  I know 72dpi, anything else I need to know?  Thanks

I know 72dpi, anything else I need to know?
For an internet page the dpi do not really matter, since a didgital image does not have physical dimensions. dpi are relevant when scanning printed photos or printing photos with a minimum resolution of points per inch.
For uploading to the internet the pixelsize matters - the total number of pixels should be not larger than necessary for the page where you will displaying your photos. If the image box for your photos is 1024by1024 pixels, set the "size-to" in the export preset to "Fit within" 1024 pixels. And select Jpeg format with a modetate jpeg quality setting, not much higher than 8. It will depend on the amaount of fine details in your photos and the contrast, how much you can lower the quality settings without making your image looking bad.
You can change the settings for the jpeg quality in the Image export  presets drop down menu, when you select "Edit".

  • Getting my photos onto the desktop and saving/printing some of them

I am having problems pulling a fair amount of my photos off iPhoto. Some of the photos in albums, I have no problem with. But with others, this is what happens: when I click on some photos to enlarge, I get a white screen, if I try to click and drag them onto the desktop, nothing happens, if I try to print them, the page comes out blank, I can not save them to a CD, I've tried and the CD burns but no photos are on it, if I take some of my albums and click on slide show, the screen goes black and there are no photos. I've tried a number of things I could think of but without success. Any ideas on how I can get my photos back. I'm lost and haven't a clue on what to do next

Start iPhoto while holding the shift+option keys. Don't release them until you're prompted to confirm the intent to rebuild the photo database. Click "Yes", then click "Save". Go make yourself a cup of tea.

  • How do I use one of my photos for the desktop background?

I have a photo which I would like to have as my desktop background. How do I accomplish this?

    Hi leduckmrb,
Are you talking about your computer desktop? If so, that isn't a Firefox thing at all. You'll have better luck looking at the [http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/windows/xp/all/proddocs/en-us/display_change_desktop_background.mspx?mfr=true Microsoft documentation].
    Hopefully this helps!

  • Autorun Download of Photos on the Desktop - Possible?

I'm on Windows 8.1 Pro now.
There seems to be some automatic "Import Photos" capability tied to Metro/Modern in Windows 8.1.  I don't have any use for Metro/Modern apps, and in fact I can't use them because I've disabled UAC.
When I had Windows 7, I had my Autoplay settings such that when I would plug in my dSLR all the images would just transfer to a particular folder I had chosen in advance, organized by date the photos were taken.  I didn't have to take any action
other than plug the camera's USB cable in, wait for the transfers to complete, see the Explorer window pop open showing the images, then unplug the camera.  Then I could move the photos to where I wanted them - or just close the Explorer window and put
off the organizational activity until later.
    That was nice.
I can get functionality almost like that in Windows 8 by right-clicking my Camera when it shows up in File Explorer under My PC then choosing
Import, but there are several prompts - ergo it's not fully automated.
Through the Autoplay settings I have configured the system to automatically open a File Explorer window pointing to the folder structure in the camera's CF card, which is a workaround for now, but I'd just like the full transfer automation I had before.
Anyone know how to reconfigure Windows 8.1 to facilitate fully automatic downloads to a specific folder using only desktop features - ideally just like they were in Windows 7?  I'm betting the functionality is still in there somewhere
and it just has to be tweaked back into existence.
I've done a little looking around, and it turns out I can invoke most of the old desktop import functionality by running this command:
    RunDLL32.exe "C:\Program Files\Windows Photo Viewer\PhotoAcq.dll" PhotoAndVideoAcquire
There may be some additional command line options I don't know about.  The trick will be to somehow wire that command in so that it autoruns when the camera is plugged-in, autoselects the camera, and starts the transfer.  I'm thinking scripting
    may be needed.
Thanks for any insights you may have as to how to accomplish automatic downloading without Metro.

    Hi Noel,
This is one of the differences between windows 7 and Windows 8. The command you have tried is a workaround to get the old way.
Maybe we could achieve it through script, we’d recommend you ask script forum for professional solution:

  • Why is Finder opening new windows every time I drag a photo onto the desktop?

I've been having a couple of issues with my desktop (I am running 10.7.5):
    1. When I save a photo by dragging it onto my desktop, it opens a new Finder window. It's only started doing this today, and I haven't changed any of my Preferences. How can I turn this function off?
    2. I used to be able to drag a photo from my web browser to my desktop to save it. When it saved, it would stay where it was dragged. However, about a month ago, the files began snapping into rows rather than where I dragged them as well as piling up in the upper right-hand corner of the screen. How can I fix this so that they stay whereever I drag them when saving?
    Thanks!

    It's a bug in Chrome.

  • How do you export photos from the iPhone to a PC running WIndows XP?

I have followed many threads in the discussion forum on this, and have tried all suggestions from getting a Picasa account, to diabling auto synching, to trying other USB ports. The bottom line is that nothing other than iTunes recognizes my iPhone when it is plugged in. I am running iTunes 8.0.11 and Picasa 3.0, and Windows XP Release 3.
There must be a way to get the photos I have taken with my iPhone on to my computer so I can work with them.
I would greatly appreciate any information on this.
    Brian

Even if iTunes wasn't installed the iPhone shows up as two devices in the device manager. The one that shows up under digital imaging uses the standard Windows XP camera driver and it you should be able to read images in a standard way using Start > All Programs > Accessories > Scanner and Camera Wizard.
However if the phone is not showing up properly in device manager I'd try some basic troubleshooting reset the phone and such. If it doesn't work on a different computer you may need to restore the iPhone.

  • Is there any way to drag photos from the desktop onto aperture like IPhoto?

    G5   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

I could be mistaken, but I don't believe you are correct.
You need Previews enabled to drag images OUT of AP.
However, to drag images IN, I do not believe you need Previews enabled. Just drop them in the Project List Pane. I'm pretty sure this has worked since 1.0 - long before Previews.
I'll update this if I find my creeping senility has moved to the fast lane
