EXPORTING Photos WITH Keywords in Photo's metadata

Is there a way to export your pictures to a folder so you have all jpegs and each photo has all the keywords embedded in its metadata?
I started making a digital library for my company for reference purposes and we just released our first intranet. The intranet has its own file searching capabilities and i want to transfer the pictures from lightroom every so often to the intranet to enable emplyees to search the intranet via keyword without having to re-tag every picture in the intranet system.
Is this possible?
Thanks and any help would be greatly appreciated,
Fred

When you export JPEGs from LR, the metadata including keywords, is exported within the image. Is this not what you are seeing? One exception is if "Minimize embedded metadata" is checked in the export dialog. Make sure that is not checked.

Edit the color document. Then Copy, or Place or Paste in the Grayscale image and mask the BW to create a composit.

  • Exporting photos with keywords

I recently organized over 600 family photos and organized each by keywords. I now want to export them to a CD to share. I am exporting the photos for my PC using family around the country. When I export the photos, the keywords don't go with it. Is there a way this can be done? I haven't found one yet.
    PowerBook   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

There is a way you can do it with the demo version of iView MediaPro. Tutorial #1 describes how to do what you want. After running iVMP the keywords will be written in the original files and will go with them when exported. (I'm not sure about the edited versions, however. So you might want to do a revert to original on those you're exporting)

  • Old photos with keywords imported to LR keeping the keywords

I have old photos which were edited by another program and keywords added. How can I get LR5 to read in these keywords when importing the photos to LR? I use a pc.

If the other program wrote the keywords into industry-standard metadata fields in the photos, then LR will automatically import the keywords along with the photos.  If the keywords aren't getting added, it's almost certainly because the other program didn't write the keywords into the photos.   What's the other program?  Many programs have an option or command to write the metadata fields.

  • Importing photos with keywords attached

    Hi
I have a new computer with Windows 7  , PSE 11  and Lightroom 4. I now want to use the lightroom organiser for my photos. How do I bring them from my backup PSE 10 catalogue on an external hard drive into Lightroom, with their keywords attached

Thanks Laura but there is nothing under File in my LR that says upgrade your Elements catalog to a Lightroom catalogue so I could not follow the instructions you sent. Was I meant to do it from PSE.  I do not have any photos in LR at all. Currently my PSE 10  catalogues are on an extrenal drive and my new computer has PSE 11. I felt confident with PSE 10 and have changed computers before and kept my catalogues. However when I tried to restore them to my new computer they all came in under media and that's where all the categories, keywords etc were placed ...  all the imported keywords were  in a band across the top of the screen, and not down the right side as I expected. I perhaps need to becoime more familiar with PSE 11 before I try to get my photos into Lightroom, but I was hoping to use it as my organiser rather than PSE. Bur as I have 10,000 photos all keyworded I certainly don't want to start again.  I have all the photos from my extended family alll scanned into my catalogue.
I appreciate any help I can get.
    Thanks

  • Exporting files with keywords

When exporting files using the export command, only some keyworks will show up in the File info panel (even if I select all). But if I open the same image from Lightroom with the "Edit photo with Photoshop CS-6" all the keywords show up in the file info panel. Any idea as to what I'm doing wrong
    Francis

I've done some more testing. Opened my RAW files catalog, checked many images to see if  the "will export" versus the "Keywords and Containing Keywords" would show exactly the same keywords. They did. Then. Then, I exported one .dng  file as a .tif file, opened it in Photoshop, the File Info shows exactly the same keywords. So based on my workflow which consists in adding the keywords to the .dng file in Bridge, then processing the file with ACR and saving it as .tif somewhow prevents Lightroom from exporting all the keywords even if they show in the "Keywords and Containing Keywords" pane.

  • Printing photos with titles/burning photos with titles to CD

I have taken photos that show hand positions for particular physical treatments and wish to print them with their titles so that I can remember what is what when I look at the photos in my notebook. Likewise, I would like to burn the photos WITH THEIR TITLES to CD so that I can share them with my classmates and have the photos make sense. Is there anyway to do this with iPhoto?

    Janel
Burning with Titles is easy: File -> Export. In the resulting dialogue choose Use Title under the Name panel. Export the files to a folder on the desktop, then burn that folder. This is certainly the case with v6, it may also work with 5.
Captions are more difficult. You cannot add text to a Pic using iPhoto, but you could create a document in Pages and very easily add captions to the Photographs there. Setting other apps as external editor would allow using PS or PE to add text to the pics.

  • E-Mailing Aperture Photos--with unwanted background photo included?

I have had an odd problem when e-mailing photos directly from Aperture.
They appear in my email program (.Mac)  with my desktop photo in the background of the selected photo, almost as if it were a watermark.  Indistinct, but definitely there.   It does not happen 100% of the time.
I am perplexed-- anyone else have this problem (and a fix?)
I have the latest version of LION and APERTURE running.
    many thanks

Uncheck the "Show Watermark" option in the Image Export Presets (categories Email Small, Email Medium, Email Original Size)
    Aperture -> Preferences -> Export
P.S. if you have the latest version of Lion running you may want to update your signature to 10.7.2

  • When I share photos with Facebook, multiple photos are posted even though I only check off a few.  How can I stop this?

When I share photos to Facebook, multiple photos that I didn't choose are posted.  How can I prevent this?

Generally I would not use Facebook for sharing any photos, it compresses the photos substantially, and when you have shadows and dark colours you get visible "bands" where there should be subtle gradients, ie at sunsets and sunrises.
It sounds like you are using two methods to upload to Facebook:
    1. Sharing from within Aperture, which basically syncs Facebook with your Aperture album, so any changes made at either end gets synced, hence the deletions from Albums, although the original file should still be in your library, just removed rom the album. It is like a playlist in iTunes.
    2. Exporting pics and uploading to Facebook from the browser.
I am not sure how method 1 gets compressed, but I know that uploading hi-res jpegs to Facebook using method 2 results in poor quality images.
I wouldn't even bother comparing option 1 or 2, and they will both be poor images once you view them on Facebook, as opposed to viewing uploaded images on proper image sharing / hosting sites.
Your problem is not with Aperture, it is using Facebook for showing your work.
If you export pics form Aperture at high res jpegs or TIFFs your images will be fine.
If you insist to use Facebook as your way to share your work, then your workflow should be this:
    1. Right click images you want to share.
    2. Select Export version.
    3. Export as 100% size and ensure the export settings are set at 100% quality.
    4. Upload this pic into Facebook.
This will get you the best image size and resolution on Facebook.
    See how you go.

  • Photo stream automatically deleting first photos with each new photo

once the photo stream on my 4s hit 1000 photos it started to delete the beginning of all of them. can i get those back? i dont understand why the new pictures are taking their place

No. Since when you create photo albums by using photos from PhotoStream the album only is a pointer to the photo ub PhotoStream
How do I delete photos from My Photo Stream?
You can delete photos from your photo stream the same way you delete other photos from your iOS device or Mac. Just select the photos you want to remove, then tap the trash icon or click Delete. On your PC, select the photos you want to remove from your photo stream, right-click, then select delete. When you delete a photo from My Photo Stream on one device, it will be removed from the Photos tab and your albums and iCloud. Photos imported from My Photo Stream to other devices won’t be deleted. Learn more about deleting photos.
What happens to my photos if I turn off My Photo Stream?
If you sign out of iCloud or turn off My Photo Stream on an iOS device, all the photos in the My Photo Stream album are removed from that device. Any photos from My Photo Stream that were imported to the Recently Added album and the Photos tab will also be removed. The photos from My Photo Stream on your other devices aren't affected. Photos from My Photo Stream are saved on the iCloud server for 30 days from the date you uploaded them to My Photo Stream. If you sign in to iCloud with the same Apple ID and turn on My Photo Stream on another device, those photos will automatically download to this device.

  • Duplicate photos with launch of Photos for Mac?

I may be jumping the gun here, but with Photos for Yosemite officially launching today, I have a kind of big fear. I have about 13,000 photos on my iPhone and they had all been backed up to iPhoto. I'd also been using Photos Beta so as far as I know, they should all be uploaded into my iCloud Photos library as well. Well now that Photos has launched, is it going to upload all the photos that had previously been uploaded to iPhoto, into my cloud? And if so, won't this mean that I'll have about 13,000 duplicate photos? I really hope that made sense, thanks guys!

I had a large iPhoto library on my home computer and smaller subsets on my office computer and laptop.  I resisted the 10.3 and Photos betas because I feared problems in the iPhoto-Photos upgrade.  Once Photos was officially released I OKed the move to Photos.  I now have a Photos library with 37,926 photos, of which man, many are duplicates.   Some are copied twice, very many are copied three times and some are more than that.  It seems that Photos has accepted a separate copy from each of my computers and mobile devices without recognising the duplication.  I only click "Yes, upgrade" to Photos on one Mac, but it seems to have fetched photos from every device registered to my Apple ID.
I can't find any command within the new Photos to deal with this.  There are free utility apps out there, but as far as I can see none of them are "Photos app aware".  The want to sort of Finder folders, or sometime the iPhoto Library, but they all pre-date the new Photos app.
If I was doing this again I would delete the photo libraries from all except the one definitive collection on my home Mac before starting the "migration"

  • Archiving some photos with keywords

I'm needing to archive certain smart albums so that I can delete the photos from my drive. However, I'd like to be able to save all of the keywords with them in case I ever need to bring some of them back into iPhoto.
I did a search on archiving and burning to CD, but there were several methods mentions and I wasn't clear on which ones might preserve the keywords.
Could someone give me some advice on this? Most photos have more than one keyword.

I/m assuming that this works with smart albums also
    Yes it does.
Another way to make sure that the current keywords in the library are permnently written to the original photos in the library to to follow the first 7 steps of Tutorial #1. Then any time you Export the original files outside of iPhoto, i.e.e to a folder on the desktop, the files will contain the keywords, comments and titles.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.≤br>
Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • My iPad won't sync photos with iTunes & the photos tab has gone on itunes

I'm using an iMac with itunes version 11.1.5 and I have been trying to sync my iPad to add photos but it keeps failing. However i have noticed that there doesnt seem to be a "photos" tab any longer on iTunes has this option been removed??
    Many thanks

You can never totally remove anything that you have purchased from iTunes, the App Store, or iBooks. Your purchases will always be tied to your Apple ID. You can hide those songs by going to Settings>iTunes and App Store>Show all>Music>Off. You can do the same for videos.
But bear in mind, all that you are doing is hiding the purchases and they will not be downloaded to your device unless you go back to that settings, show the songs again and then tap the cloud to download them to the iPad.

  • How does iPhoto'11 maps modified photo with corresponding original photo?

    Hello,
I see that every picture I edit in iPhoto, iPhoto keeps 2 copies of it - 1) of course the edited/modifed version 2) Original version, so that I can come back later and still get the original copy.
    1. But I think it takes up a lot of space of local hard drive and I would iPhoto to only keep the final edited/modified version. Is there a way to set iPhoto property like this?
    2. I would also like to know how iPhoto maps original version to the modified version, if there an xml that I can see? I would like to filter out my current photo collection. Suppose I have 1000 pictures and out of 1000, I modified 700. So iPhoto has 1700 pictures, so what I would like to do is that keep the modified version (700) and only 300 of the original. This way hard drive will be used only for 1000 pictures and I could save a lot.
    Please help!
    Cheers

    1. But I think it takes up a lot of space of local hard drive and I would iPhoto to only keep the final edited/modified version. Is there a way to set iPhoto property like this?
No. Best advice if that's what you want is to use another application for your photos. iPhoto treats the original file like a film shooter treats the negative - it preserves it at all costs. It's also necessary for the non-destructive editing feature.  If you're concerned about disk space you need to be realistic: Digitial Photoography requires a lor of space going forward. You can run an iPhoto Library from an external disk:
Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
    1. Quit iPhoto
    2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
    3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
    4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.
As Larry says, the relationship is tracked in the SQL database. Forget about trying to do what you want via this method. FOr a start, hacking the db won't delete anything. You'll still have to go in to the folders and delete the files. Here's a tedious way to do it: Export everything using any setting except Originals, empty the library and then re-import what you exported. Repeat endlessly everytime you edit. Be prepared for dataloss when you make a mistake in the process.
But really, doing what you want to do is exactly what iPhoto is designed not to do. Rather than trying to fix a spreadsheet so you can write your novel, wouldn't it be better to just use a Word Processor?

  • IPad has "4.2G" of photos with only 46 photos?

I don't know if this is just a glitch or the photos take up a lot of space but my iPad always says it has 4.2G of photos. It isn't affected when I delete photos either. I don't know if maybe something else is included in the "Photos" section but this is really annoying. I deleted photo stream in the hope it would help but it didn't.

do you have any videos you've shot with your iPad? videos can take up a chunk of room
