Exporting pix for web  - how to save in 72ppi?

I'm wanting to save versions as small jpegs at web resolution, 72 ppi. I've created a custom export present for the photos at the size I want, but there seems to be no way to control what resolution the file is written at. I must be missing something here, but I don't know what. There's nothing in the Getting Started manual about this.

  • "Save For Web" not remembering save folder

    Hi Guys,
I'm using the save for web function to save a large number of files (not batch saving).
Usually, when I open a file and start saving for web, it will remember the folder that I most recently exported to, and by default open that folder for that file, until I "save for web" into a different folder.
Out of seemingly nowhere, the save for web seemed to "forget" this folder (and any other folder I tried to save to), and now defaults to the "Documents" folder, causeing me have to click through to find my intended destination folder.
Any ideas? Google was not a help on this one, I can't seem to find anyone with a similar issue.
I'm on CS5 & Mac running Mountain Lion. On my work computer (exactly the same, Mac + Mountain Lion) I am using CS6 and have not encountered this issue.

    Caitlin,
You may try the following (you may have tried/done some of them already) and see whether it helps (the following is a general list of things you may try when the issue is not in a specific file; 3) and 4) are specifically aimed at possibly corrupt preferences):
    1) Close down Illy and open again;
    2) Restart the computer (you may do that up to 3 times);
    3) Close down Illy and press Ctrl+Alt+Shift/Cmd+Option+Shift during startup (easy but irreversible);
    4) Move the folder with Illy closed (more tedious but also more thorough and reversible);
    5) Look through and try out the relevant among the Other options (Item 7) is a list of usual suspects among other applications that may disturb and confuse Illy);
If nothing else helps, even more seriously, you may:
    6) Uninstall, run the Cleaner Tool, and reinstall.

  • Export Compression for Web Use

    Hi All
I've been through the forum and seen a lot of posts on the "art" of compressing files for use and transfer on the web while wanting to maintain quality.
I understand that it requires some tweaking of the frame size, the frame rate, and the data rate to get the optimum file size versers quality.
I've moved from iMove where export was simple(tho files were large) to FCE and I'm finding that the learning curve is very steep.
I've recently seen a video on Vimeo http://vimeo.com/10022953 which is stunning quality and only 36.5 MB with a frame size of 1280 x 720. I'm wondering if anyone has an idea how he may have achieved this. The Codecs that he has used are AAC, H.264, MPEG-4 ODSM, MPEG-4 SDSM. I'm wondering if it may be necessary to use another compressing software to convert the exported full size QuickTime movie file to a quality file such as this.
    Any ideas???

    Hi All
While waiting for comments to my question I contacted the producer to the video that I referred to above. When in doubt go to the source.
    His reply is…
"I use the setting in Quicktime X, go to: File - Save As and in format select 1080p. Easy as pie"
So I gave it a shot and I managed to get an awesome quality video at a greatly reduced file size, similar to what he had. I also discovered a powerful tool in Quicktime X : File > Save for web. This gives other great sizes and extra files and code for hosting on your own servers.
If anyone has any other ideas I'd love to hear but this has fixed me for the moment

  • When batching Save for Web, Illustrator also saves copy of .ai file

This question was asked and abonadoned here, so I'm posting because it's also happening to me.
    CS4 & CS5 (I tried both), Mac OS 10.6
    1. I select the "Save for Web PNG" action, which is part of the default set, and select "Batch."
    2. I choose a source folder and choose a destination folder, and check "Override Action 'Save' Commands."
    3. Illustrator then performs the Save for Web action, but puts the .png files in the original destination specified in the action. It also puts copies of the .ai files in the destination folder I created and specified in the Batch dialog box.
I want the .png files in my folder, and I don't want copies of the .ai files.
Pulling my hair out on this one, going to lunch. Thanks in advance for any help

Ah, ok. That worked, for the most part. When I used "Folder" as the destination, my jpegs were saved to that folder, but I also got the .ai copies again. Argh. It was only when I chose "Save and Close" as the destination that I got just the jpegs.
So "Save for Web" is actually a type of export, rather than a save. It's confusing, since the action is called "Save for Web…"  Plus, the batch works — in the original way I set it up — with a regular Save command.
btw, the top section only goes gray when "Save & Close" is selcted (see screen shot). Thanks for your help.

  • Saving for web - how to get transparency saved?

It works with saving it as png24, but only on a white background. How can I save it for web so that I can put a shop-banner with rounded corners on any coloured website background without adjusting it to the special colour onto which it shall be put. Or let's put it otherwise: How can I save it for no special colour, so that a customer may put it onto any kind of colour without having stupid white or black or grey coloured edges showing where the corners have been rounded and where I want it to be transparent?

You need to replace the background with true transparency. First rename the Background layer to anything else. It is sufficient to double-click it in the Layers Palette and accept the default name "Layer 0". Select the background and delete it, replacing it with checkerboard pattern indicating transparency (in some cases it might be easier to select the object, invert the selection, and delete). Then when you save it to png or any other format, check the preserve transparency option if there is one.
Here I started with a flag on off-white background. After renaming the Background layer and deleting the background here is the result.
Important!  File types PSD, TIFF, PNG, GIF, EPS support transparency.  JPG, BMP do not.
Note that you get the same result if you duplicate the Background layer, do the select/delete on the copy layer, and turn off the vivibility of the Background layer:

  • Exporting files for web and print at the same time.

been searching a while now and no joy with an answer.
So I want to know 2 things.
Is there an option on LR to export 2 different extensions at once?
So a JPG at say 5mb and one at 500k?
Also would I 'resize to' 1024x768 if I was going to use for web?
    Hope you can help.
    Thanks.

It is possible to pick a desired file size that is too small for the image's pixel dimensions. Where that line is drawn will depend on the individual image.
Normally if you are picking a max file size, you are also resizing the file to be smaller, like your 1024x768 example above. This size would easily be under 500 kb.

  • Indesign 2014 exporting pdf for web large fiel size

I am exporting an Indesign 2014 file to pdf print for web. I have tried smallest file size, Acrobat 4 & 5 and also selected transparency flattener when exporting pdf. File comes out to 12MB either way. I have gone into Adobe pdf and optimized the pdf and comes out around 11MB. The Indesign file has some small photoshop images also layered vector AI file. I have flattened the AI file and placed that image in Indesign but file is still large. With the AI file I have exported it as a jpeg and placed that in Indesign and file comes out fine for web under 1 MB. Checking with the group if there is a way that Indesign can export the AI file without replacing it as a jpeg.

    Checking with the group?
The best and most logical way would be to export a PDF from the AI and place that one, so ID just needs to copy. ID is not an AI-to-PDF converter.

  • PSE6 Mac OS - Save For Web won't save JPEG high res setting in Preset

Why is it that, contrary to documentation, Save For Web won't remember that I always select JPEG High for every photo file I save? Each time, it comes up as "Custom" Low quality, and can't even remember that I want JPEG format. My reliable old copy of PSE 2 that I've used happily for six years was capable of remembering what I wanted out of Save For Web. There are always surprises with new Adobe versions, I just wish there were some good ones once in a while...

I tried on my mac machine with PSE 6 and saved one file as PNG-24 and some settings. I saved the file.
next time when i opened any other image and tried using save for web, the previous settings were remembered.
So, i m not sure if the issue you facing is common to all.

  • Save for web won't save in CS5

So, save for web worked perfectly when I installed CS5, until a couple of days ago, when I clicked the save-button in the save for web window and got this message: "Could not complete this operation. An unknown operating system error has occurred."
It makes no sense and I've tried basically everything I can think of that could help:
    Restarting
Deleting settings for save for web
Reinstalling the whole CS5 package (and removing settings)
    Repairing disk permissions
    Cleaning up stuff with OnyX
Shutting down all other applications and running photoshop alone
None of those things did anything and I'm pretty much stuck. Any ideas?

Ok, now it seems to work of some reason. I have no idea whatsoever as to why.
Edit: Wait, it works on certain files, and on others it doesn't. It won't work if I create a blank file and try saving, but it worked on a specific file. Makes no sense.
Edit2: and NOW it seems to work on all files. Damn, I'm confused.

  • Resizing pixs for web page use

I have resized the photos to use on MS Frontpage but when the thumbnails are clicked on to be enlarged in the web page they are still too large. How do I make photos usable for web page use?

What version of Elements are you using? How are you now going about creating the thumbnails and larger images? What size are you making the large ones? I suspect all you need to do is change the width and height parameters to something smaller.

  • Exporting 16x9 for web

    Hello all,
I know the issue for getting 16x9 into iDVD to show up correctly using anamorphic etc..
    but what about for web?
I am getting black bars on sides not top and bottom. I would like bars to be on top and bottom OR no bars but 16x9 size.
Do I just export some sizes that are 16x9 in settings window and that's it?
I don't know when to select "crop" or "fit".
    Tanks,
    Al

    Ok ,
your right - like I would ever doubt it... For some reason it doesn't look pixelated even though it is bigger than its native 720- I don't understand that!
When I export to smaller proportions of 16x9 I get bars on right and left and not in proportion of 16x9?
Do the measurements have to be exact ?
I need 2 exports of it - one about half the size of the 853 and one about 1/3.
    Thanks,
    Al

  • Export settings for Web and Television

I am looking to Export a 30sec ad that will be posted on a website, and shown on TV in California. I have FC 5.0.4
What export settings do I use? Countdown? Bars and Tones?
any help would be greatly appreciated.

For web, I would recommend using H.264. The Web Download 800 kbps preset in Compressor, or the Broadband High preset in QuickTime would be a good choice.
As for delivering video for TV, I would recommend contacting the TV Network which will broadcast your video, and ask them about their broadcast requirements.
    Good luck!

  • Quicktime Pro: When Exporting for Web, how much does it reduce file size?

I'm considering purchasing Quicktime Pro so I can reduce the file size of Quicktime movies so they load quickly to be viewed on my website. Can anyone tell me how much I can expect to be able to reduce the size of a Quicktime file?

I will try some. 50-100 kB for a 4-color PDFs sounds high if any compression at all is used in the graphic. I would suggest that you look a bit at the graphics. They may not be "16-color" graphics (you may have used 4 colors, but the graphic storage would have to be 16 color, 256 color, or millions of colors and I suspect the storage is millions of colors that a lot of scans default to). You could use PhotoShop or simply IrfanView to check the properties of the colors of the images. That would be the first step I would suggest.
Once you have the colors set, then save them as TIFF to minimize loss in the graphic. TIFF has several options for compression and I really can't advise you there. Just select whatever is the default compression. I created a 8.5X11 image with 72dpi and 16 colors, getting a 55 kB file. The corresponding PDF was 60 kB. There is pixelization and such, but that is something for you to test.
Once you you have reasonable graphics, then consider the PDF. As I said, I ended up with a 60 kB PDF. A segment of the PDF is shown below as a JPeg:
When you put the files together, use Save As to finalize the PDF. Working on the graphics first is probably the best way to fix the issue, rather than dealing with the PDF directly. This allows you to clean up the PDFs and be sure that you have the level of colors (not millions, even if you only use 4) etc.

  • How to export movie for web?

I am trying to upload a movie I made on iMovie to my website, but the .m4v does not work on anything but my mac. Is there some way I can convert the .m4v to an .mpeg?
    TIA,
    Dana

I am trying to upload a movie I made on iMovie to my website, but the .m4v does not work on anything but my mac. Is there some way I can convert the .m4v to an .mpeg?
There are many ways but it would help to know what flavor of .MPEG file you are targeting. Normally I would assume you are referring to an MPEG-2 video with MPEG-1, layer 2 (MP2) audio. The easiest to use application would probably be Visual Hub if you can find a copy. (Support dropped and possibly will return as an open source project called "FilmRedux.") iVCD, MPEG2 Works, and FFmpegX would be alternative dedicated converters. If you have iDVD or Toast, these burning application can also produce other flavors (MPEG2/AIFF or MPEG2/AC3 multiplexed files) which can be then be modified by MPEG Streamclip to an MPEG2/MP2 file secondarily.
NOTE: The same four dedicated applications mentioned, as well as, Toast can also be used to create multiplexed MPEG-1 (.MPG) files if that was really what you really wanted.
