Exporting playlists from a ipod

I have a master playlist that i have created on my ipod.
I want to export that playlist from my ipod so that i can make a back up copy in case the ipod crashes. Does any body know how to export playlists from the ipod to np3 format? I tried to export my master libray this morning and the only option it gave ne was a xml format. I tried importing that into a new library to test it and it created blank new library's. If someone could tell me how to export the play lists from the ipod it would be greatly apreciated.

Josh White

Josh - your question makes me suspect you are manually managing your iPod and removing songs from your computer once they've been moved to the iPod. If that's a correct assumption let me start with a short rant:

This is an incredibly unsafe thing to do. So many things can go wrong with your iPod from loss to theft to dead hard drive to dropping from the balcony of your 10th story apartment. Your iPod is gone, your music is gone, and now you have to start the collection all over again which is a pain I experienced about 4 years ago. The cost of external drives is small - use one to keep your music on.

The best thing about doing this is that you can create your iPod's playlist in iTunes and there is no need to copy it from the iPod.
Now to answer your question. Go to your favorite download site and perform a search on 'iPod'. I think there is at least one (Mac) utility that will do what you want. I don't know about the Windows side.

When I bought a new computer my library got transferred but not my playlists. I cannot drag or populate a new playlist on my computer from the playlist on my ipod. How can I do this?

    Hello Ed Greenberg,
    And welcome to Apple Discussions!
[YamiPod|http://www.yamipod.com/main/modules/home> may be able to get the job done for you. One of it's listed features is the ability to export playlists from your iPod. Worth a shot at least.

  • How do I move a playlist from my ipod to my iphone without duplicating songs?

My iPod and iPhone have the same songs on them, both manually managed. I have a playlist on my iPod that I want to move to iPhone. I tried exporting, and then importing to iTunes and them draggin and dropping that into my iPhone, but that results in my iPhone having duplicate songs (something that already plagues my iTunes, and I can hardly afford to infect my iPhone with, given its' annoyingly small storage). One more thing, the playlist is over 200 songs, so recreating it by hand is out of the question.
How can I get my iPhone to create a playlist out of the songs it already has based on the playlist from my iPod?

Is this non-iTunes store purchased in your iTunes library? If so, simply configure it to sync to your iPhone and iPad the same way it is set up to sync to your older iPod.
If this other music is only on your older iPod and not in iTunes, you'll need to get it there first before you can sync it to the other two devices. • Recovering playlists from Video iPod

I have all my music, but erased my playlist on my laptop by accident. Is there a way to just export my playlist from my iPod so I don't have to re-create it?

When I plug my iPod into my laptop it is not recognizing it because my playlist information is gone from my computer. I want to get my playlist from my iPod and then import back into iTunes. (if possible) Otherwise, I will have to create my playlists all over again.

  • I can't sync playlists from my iPod 5th gen to my iTunes library on new laptop

I have a new laptop and have managed to move all my music to it and install iTunes and all the albums are correct and present, but it was a bit complicated. I'm not sure if we missed a step in moving everything via a larger hard drive, but my playlists were not transferred and even though my iTunes recognises my iPod 5th gen it won't actually sync. I have run the diagnostic test, it says it's all fine. It won't sync new purchases and I can't copy playlists from my iPod back into the iTunes library. I have 15 playlists and I don't want to do it all over again. Does anyone have any ideas?

I did find that if I bought new songs from iTunes that I could transfer them to playlists on my iPod, but otherwise when I connect the iPod, under settings (on the left under the device icon) if I select music, it brings up the tick box for sync music. If I try to tick that box, it asks if I am sure if I want to remove existing music and sync with this iTunes library.

How do I transfer playlists from one ipod to another?

It needs to go through iTunes.  But there is no way to transfer songs from iPod to iTunes library (except for music you purchased from iTunes Store).  However, there are third-party methods and utilities that can transfer from iPod to computer.  If you do a Google search on "ipod transfer," you should get some links.
Once the song files are on your computer, add them to your iTunes library.  You can then sync your iPhone to the iTunes library.
Alternately, if you sign up for the iTunes Match service, your iTunes music library on your computer will become available from iCloud.  You can set your new iPhone (assuming you bought a "new" iPhone) to sync from iCloud, instead of from your computer's iTunes.  All of your music will be available wirelessly, wherever you have an Internet connection.

  • How do i copy music and playlists from my iPod into iTunes

is there a way for me to plug in my iPod and have all the songs and playlists download to my computer. i had to reinstall iTunes so it has nothing in it right now, and i dont want to update my iPod with an empty library. can i either do what i previously said or get the playlist from my iPod and save it to my computer and import the playlists and music that way???

To get the tracks from the iPod, you won't need any software. Check this post for further info.
Unfortunately the Javascripts mentioned in that post don't work anymore, therefore you'll need some extra software to copy the playlists as well. For example the Anapod Copygear, the CasiCakes iPod2PC or the CopyPod. Any of those might be suitable for you.

  • Move playlist from one iPod to another?

Is it possible to transfer a playlist from one iPod to another? I have an iPod on which I've developed some playlists for classes (I teach music) and I just got a new iPod, and I would like to transfer that playlist on the old iPod to the new iPod.
Let me be clear: I own all of the music on the playlist, and it is all still in my iTunes library; I just want to move the playlist I've developed over the last few years on my old iPod to my new one as a whole, rather than piece by piece and one file at a time.
    Is this possible?

No, unfortunately -- it's only on my old iPod. I just created playlists on the iPod and added things to that. There's about 80-100 things in each playlist.

    Hi, Dwayne
This is the 'iTunes U Course Manager' community, which is is a very specific area and not for general iTunes questions.
You need to ask your question or start your discussion in the 'iTunes' community where you should get a better response.
    Hope that helps.

  • Copy playlist from one ipod to another?

how do i copy a playlist from my ipod 80gb to my new shuffle?

You do have the playlist in iTunes right? Do you manage music manually? If yes then you have to drag and drop (in iTunes) the playlist on to the shuffle when connected.
If you are syncing automatically, then all the playlists you selected for sync will transfer to the device.
