Exporting rather large image in Illustrator CS5...

Lets just say I wanted to export an image from Illustrator CS5
What I want would be 3000px², with 300ppi, and level 7 detail, jpeg. (I would work with PNG ussually, but that's a whole nother issue)
My computer specs
i7, quad core
3.2 GHz
8gb ram
RAID 0 HDDs
So when I try to export the image, it tells me that I have insufficient memory. I can produce 150ppi just fine but dammit, if I can't do 300ppi with my build, what computer can? (I do, however, understand that 3000px² is rather large)
Thanks for you time

Do I understand you correctly, your document is 3000x3000 pixels in dimension, that is the size of your artboard or bounding box of the art?
A nd you are exporting it as jpeg at 300ppi?  Then what is the color mode of the document, RGB or CMYK?

  • Placing large images in Illustrator CS5 - Crash

    Hello.
    I'm producing an artwork, working in high resolutions.
    The new artboard functions in Illu CS5 is really great for my purpose, but when placing my
    photoshop images (around 25K x 15K), Illustrator crashes almost every time.
    The only format, that doesn't make it crash, is Photoshop EPS.
    But that won't let me keep my transparancy (PSD or TIFF without transparancy also crashes).
    I could split up the images, but still think it's really strange, this should be nescessary.
    Thx for any advice / explanation
    Morten

    There could be two resons for this:
    The size of the image you are placing is larger than the canvas size i.e approx  16300 * 16300 pt
    Another could be the memory related, i.e the Ai is hitting the limits..
    Try placing the file after reducing the dimensions..

    Just upgraded to Yosemite form Snow Leopard and use Illustrator CS5.1. I had it auto embedding my images but it would still show my path/file name in the links pallet...now once the image is embedded it just gets rid of my link. How can I fix this?

  • Is there a way to create a keyboard shortcut to relink images in Illustrator CS5?

    I know you can in InDesign but doesn't look like it in Illustrator. Anyone know for sure?
    Thank you!!

    Here you go, this script relinks all selected images to the same image, but it works as well for one image.
    #target Illustrator
    // script.name = relinkAllSelected.jsx;
    // script.description = relinks all selected placed images at once;
    // script.required = select at least one linked image before running;
    // script.parent = CarlosCanto // 7/12/11;
    // script.elegant = false;
    var idoc = app.activeDocument;
    sel = idoc.selection;
    if (sel.length>0)
              var file = File.openDialog ("open file");
              for (i=0 ; i<sel.length ; i++ )
                       if (sel[i].typename == "PlacedItem")
                                var iplaced = sel[i];

  • Large files crashing illustrator CS5

    We've recently upgraded our computers to windows 7 and we're getting a lot of crashes that seem to be caused by illustrator. When our designers are using quite large files (think 500MB) the computers will spontaneously restart (or now BSOD after I turned the automatic restart off).
    The computers are ACER Veriton X490G with in intel  i5 processors (2.8ghz), 4GB ram, and NVIDIA Geforce 8400GS graphics cards.
    It happens most often when opening a file but also at other times while hey are working on the files.
    Any help diagnosing this would be very appreciated.
    Regards
    Bernard

    Well the machines fit well within the system requirements for both illustrator and win7. Defrag is fine. Scratch disk is 320GB at the moment so that shouldn't be a big problem. Is there any way to tell whether it is a memory issue? Eg see how much illustrator is using/have a look at crash logs for illustrator?

  • Jaggies on Vectorized Image? Illustrator CS5

    Hello,
    I developed a vectorized logo in Illustrator and I see that the curves on my letters have jaggies on them. Is there a way to make a vectorized
    logo without the jaggies? Please provide the paths > within Illustrator to optimize the curve quality. I am using CS5. Thank you

    So this is still your Flash problem?
    Have you tried the options in the other thread? What did happen when you adjust the quality slider? What does happen when you import the AI-file in Flash - there are also lots of settings in the import dialog.
    I don't know exact steps for your problem. I can only tell, where I would look to find a solution. It's up to you to try that out. When I copy and paste sommething from Illy to Flash I don't get that kind of edges.

  • Illustrator CS5 - Export to PSD merges layers that shouldn't be merged!

    I've been fiddling with settings and layer orders for a while now, but I still get issues!
    Everytime I export a PSD from my Illustrator CS5 file, it wants to merge the last few layers together! If you look at the pics, there is nothing special, or different about the layers that get merged (the last 3 in the layer order on the pics). I've tried even putting a blank layer in between to see if it would just merge that, but then it'll merge the last 3 layers, along with any blank spacers I've put in!
    Does anyone have a clue why this might happen?
    Thanks all!

    I can tell you exactly why it happens - because Adobe is a publicly traded company and so are focused on profits instead of quality. Bug updates don't sell product - new features do. For instance, how basic is it for a program to remember to keep the "Preview" box checked when you do a Blend, or to have a default pen setting (help me if I've missed this one as I'm also new to illustrator). Coming from using a 1999 version of Coreldraw that I bought on a deal for $99, this upgrade to the "industry standard" is disappointing so far.
    And I don't necessarily blame the programmers - I'm sure there just doing what they're told. l'll end this rant here.
    Here's a workaround for this bug that they may never address because it won't sell product:
    >When you first export your file, take note of what layers are being merged.
    >Go back in Illustrator and create a dummy layer between each of the those layers. Ex: create a text layer titled "Dummy Layer" and just copy/ move it between the layers that are merging in Photoshop.
    >Export file and open in Photoshop. The layers should be separated. Just delete the dummies.

  • Large Images + MPE Hardware = Decreased Performance?

    I have been enjoying the performance gain of using the GPU on my graphics card (GTS 250) even though it is not officially supported. I have found that some timelines that take the CPU to 95% in software mode play back using only 25% using the GPU.
    I have found only one anomaly so far and I am not sure if it is specific to the mercury playback engine using hardware, using an unsupported card, or just my card/system in particular.  If I place large (over 4,320 pixels alone the long edge) Jpeg pictures on the timeline (DSLR 1080p @29.97), animated the position and scale using the standard motion effect and apply a cross dissolve, the MPE using hardware will crash during export or bring it to a very slow grind.  It is the only case that I have found where exporting in software mode is much faster.
    However, if I reduce all the images so that the longest edge is below 4,000 pixels, the speed of the MPE using hardware returns and exports work fine.  I am curious to here if others have noticed any performance lag/problems from using large images?
    PPRO CS5 5.0
    Nvidia GTS 250
    Nvidia Driver Version 197.?

    Found it...it was on Karle Soule's website.  Here is what he says about CS5 and maximum resolutions.
    " In the Adobe Mercury Engine, the maximum timeline resolution is 10240 pixels by 8192 pixels, more than enough for any mastering resolution we'll see in the near future. The maximum resolution for clips dropped in any timeline will be limited to 256 megapixels in any direction. So, for example, footage from a 32000 by 8000 pixel sensor could be imported and dropped onto a timeline."
    From the bottom of this page: http://blogs.adobe.com/VideoRoad/mercury/
    I am sure that Photoshop does a better job scaling images, but for projects with a lot of images, it just does not seem very practical to crop/scale each image base on how much panning will be done.  My project is not slowing down due to larger images and playback on the timeline is great, I was just wondering why MPE using hardware bogs down.
    My today's standards, an image of 4,300 pixels along the long edge is not that big....
    I have found that the problem is related to the cross dissolve.  If I remove the cross dissolve the sequence will export with all the GPU goodness speed.  Make me wonder if both images have to be loaded by the GPU to calculate the dissolve.  If that is the case, then two images over 4096 would put my card over the 8192 maximum image texture...however, the GTX 285 has the same maximum image texture, so I wonder if the problem still occurs on my card/system or all GPU rendering?

  • Placed images in Illy CS5

    When I place images in Illustrator CS5,
    I usually do it with RGB jpegs or RGB Psd (photoshop images)
    while my document in illustrator  is in CMYK mode
    Then When my file is ready to be send for print
    I save AS PDF (option Press Quality is Checked)
    My question is the following:
    Do I need to convert the placed photoshop images
    into CMYK and/or  any other particular format (tiff or else)
    AND THEN SAVE IT as PDF
    Or when saved as PDF the program automatically does for me???
    I used to be a FREEHAND user and with Freehand we had to convert the images in CMYK (tif)
    and then REPLACE THEM with the new ones before sending the file to a print shop
    So far In illustrator I haven,t been converting my images into CMYK
    and had no problems with my printed jobs (leaving all placed files as are - RGB)
    IS THIS THE RIGHT WAY ...ANY OTHER CLUES AS TO WHAT TO DO
    THANK YOU VERY MUCH
    GYPAS

    Thanks Monica
    I think that color management issues are a thing I need to dig into a little more.
    As I have mentioned so Far I  Have not had ANY problems with the printed outcome
    even if I left the placed images in RGB formats
    The reason that suits me at least is that I save time this way (not having to convert the placed files in CMYK)
    AND THEN REPLACE THEM.
    Also I keep my Hard drive not so full since I dont keep CMYK files that take up more memory and space.
    BUT THE QUESTION CONTINUES....
    Is it better to EMBED the images upon placement. Does Illy treat them any different???
    Thanks again for your valuable input
    Keep up the good work
    A.

  • InDesign CS5 crashing when exporting to PDF - large image?

    Hi can anyone help?
    I'm working with some rather large files in InDesign - it's a layout for a vinyl banner. It contains one image, created at 1/2 size @ 600dpi - 1500 mm x 850 mm. The file size generating is 1.25GB. I can't save in any format other than tif, psb, raw. I've gone with tif.
    So, I've placed the image above into my document and need to send to the printers to do a resolution test. Unfortunately, when exporting to a high quality PDF, it hangs and InDesign crashes.
    I know the image is probably the cause of the issue, but really not sure what I can do about that?
    Crash report is here - http://pastebin.com/EBNxE8fS
    If anyone can offer any advice on a) how I can save the image as a print acceptable format that DOESN'T create a humongous file size OR b) whether there are any settings i can cgane in InDesign to handle this better?
    Thanks

    Hiya
    Thanks for the reply - and yes, I thought the ppi was too high as well HOWEVER thats the specs advised by the production house. I've managed to get the file to export using a ppi of 500 - so it will print at 250ppi full size - which i think is ok, anything above that and my machine just doesn't want to play.
    I will try and use the zip compression and see what they results in. Unfortunately, becuase of the size and ppi, I'm only given the 3 file format options to save in as above.
    I've explained the situation to my production house and am awaiting their reply. These banners, although will possibly be seen up close, won't in no way be viewed at arms length.
    Thanks for your help

  • Illustrator CS5 javascript JPEG export 300 DPI & max quality

    I new to Illustrator CS5 scripting (javascript) and I'm trying to export an .eps to .jpg.  With image quality 8 and DPI 300.
    I've seen several post asking about this (only a few with answers).  Those answer aren't working for me though.
    I also found this post saying that it can't be done (http://forums.adobe.com/message/1103680) but it's pretty old.
    When I run the script I have it saves with a DPI of 96 which is higher than the minimum mentioned in the post above.
    Thanks very much.  A snippet from my script is below...
    var targetFile = new File(fullFileName);
    if(!targetFile.exists) {
    var type = ExportType.JPEG;
    var saveOptions = new ExportOptionsJPEG();
    saveOptions.qualitySetting = 80;
    saveOptions.horizontalScale = (300/72) * 100;
    saveOptions.verticalScale = (300/72) * 100;
    saveOptions.antiAliasing = false;
    saveOptions.optimization = false;
    app.activeDocument.exportFile(targetFile, type, saveOptions);

    You'll have to reduce the size of the resulting image file to achieve resolution you want. I just did something similar and the file was as expected 416.67% larger than the original. When reduced to 24% of the size, the resolution is 300 ppi.

  • In Illustrator CS5, how do I change a single color in a rasterized image?

    In Illustrator CS5, I have a rasterized image arranged in front of a blue rectangle on a page that is otherwise blank (screenshot below).  The rasterized image has exactly 4 colors.  I want to change the light grey color to green.  How can I do so?
    (Among other things, I have tried to copy-and-paste and export the full page and the rasterized image into Photoshop CS5, but every method that I have tried appears to resample the rasterized image, changing the pixelation and creating many more colors, effects that I do not want.)
    Thanks for any help.

    AdVictoriam,
    Illy is very helpful, but she is no more able to deal with single pixels in a raster image than the rest of us.
    Is it really impossible to export the image (as PNG24) and open it in Photoshop, then recolour the grey pixels there?

  • How do I create or export a logo in Illustrator CS5 with an alpha channel to use in Final Cut Pro 6?

    To anyone who can help:
    I have created a logo using Illustrator CS5 and need to import it into a video sequence in Final Cut Pro 6.  The logo has a transparent background.  It seems FCP 6 will import both native .ai files as well as .tiff files, but when I open them in FCP 6, the alpha channel (transparent background) is no longer there; there is just the logo over a white background.  Is there a setting or step I am missing?
    Shaun MacLellan

    I have to insert AI images into Final Cut Pro and Motion quite frequently.
    The most effective way I've found to get an AI image into Final Cut is to:
    1. Select/copy all the objects in the AI doc.
    2. Create a new file with a transparent background in Photoshop and paste.
    3. Merge the layers and make sure the mode is RGB.
    4. Save out as a .PNG or .PSD.
    5. Drag the result into Final Cut (or Motion).
    6. Resize and position the result to taste.
    Attempting to export directly from AI to .PSD or .PNG is a wasted effort  and the results may not even be recognized by Final Cut.
    Yes, it requires Photoshop and it is a few extra steps...but it works like a charm.
    Additionally, when creating a new file in Photoshop, you may want to initially set its size to match the aspect ratio of your video. For example, if you're making an HD video, you might set the size to 1280x720 and position the AI elements where they are supposed to be in frame. You can set the AI elements in accurately by cutting and pasting a frame from your video into Photoshop and positioning the AI elements in place on another layer above the video layer. Delete the video layer before saving out as a .PNG or .PSD and it will appear in Final Cut exactly where it should be.

  • Animation in illustrator cs4: pan & rotate across large image while animating text?

    Hi there -
    I have a fairly large circular starmap image - it's a fantasy piece simulating an ancient painted star map with stars, ancient constellation figures, and calligraphic text. Basically a bitmap background from PShop, vector layers with stars, constellations and text. I want to export from Illustrator to Flash a number of short 'movies' of different views of this artwork panning from one point to another with possible zoom and rotation around the image as it pans. I also want to animate one or more of the constellation shapes as the movie pans, as well as adding momentary effects to some of the text.
    I'm familiar with setting up a non-panning animation in illustrator using layers as animation 'cells' and exporting to Flash. But is it possible to do this while moving across a large piece of artwork? How can I capture and export a specific 'view' which moves across the larger image and/or zooms in or out, while also animating a shape or text glow for example? Would this be accomplished with a mask set to the aspect ratio of the final movie which is moved/resized/rotated from layer to layer?
    Is this even possible in Illustrator CS4? I'm not familiar with Premier or AE, hoping to stay within Illy and Flash.
    Thanks!

    Thanks Monica,
    After researching, it looks like Sony Vegas can be used to create a freeflowing video 'fly-over' of the artwork. And then at specific points I can import and animate the Illustrator vector pieces with After Effects - just a 'bit' of a learning curve now...

  • How can I export an image from Illustrator same canvas size and custom resolution?

    Hey all.  i am using Adobe Illustrator CS5 for creating images for iPhone app icons the size of image 374 px 374 px and 264 ppi. i created an image same size and ppi .the problem after export the image file size changing to  1371px x 1371px and 264 ppi pixel dimension.How can I export same canvas size and same resolution file from illustrator

    10111980,
    If you just forget about PPI and use Save for Web, you will get the 374 x 374 pixel size.
    The 1371 x 1371 pixels is because you somehow increase the resolution by 264/72.
    You should never mix pixel by pixel sizes and PPI.
    The 374 x 374 pixels is the actual image size. At 264 PPI that will be about 1.417 inches. At 72 PPI that will be about 5.194 inches.
