Exporting RAW files from Aperture

I need to export or somehow generate a RAW file from within Aperture. My photos in Aperture are RAW files and I need to export/get a copy to take to my printers so that the file can be fine tuned before printing. Any help would be appreciated. I am using version 1.5.6.
Ed

does that still leave a master in Aperture or do I need to import it back in?
thanks,

  • Export RAW files from iPad to NAS

    Hello everyone,
I've been a while wondering if it is possible to quit personal computers for my Photo Workflow, that involves RAW file formats. The ideal workflow should be like this:
    Take a photo in RAW+JPEG.
Import the photo in an iPad Air 2 with iOS 8 via SD Card Adapter.
Work with the image with the existing RAW editing apps, Like Photogene 4 or SnapSeed.
Save the original RAW and edited stuff in a Synology NAS.
The problem is the fourth step. It's impossible for me to extract them intact from iPad to NAS. I had recently a false positive when I found FileBrowser, which is a Finder-like app that let's you take RAWs from an album and copy to a network storage. BUT surprise! The filesize of that files is EXACTLY the same of the JPGs, around 2,5 MB, so these .CR2 files have been altered.
¿Is there some way to export RAW files from an iPad?

The following claims to transfer RAW. Not sure that it will work in the circumstance you describe but may be something to check out: http://www.photosync-app.com/photosync/en/features.html#cluster_1

  • Moving RAW files from Aperture to an EHD

Whats the best way to move my RAW photo files from Aperture to an external hard drive? For safe storage and future access.
It wants to export them as Tiff files which is fine. but l will want to delete all but the star rated ones form my macbook air to
    clear space.
It will not be a back up it will be the only file stored so l will need to be able to re-load a file to sell it or use it in publications or as poster prints.

In what way is an EHD safer than the current storage (presumably inside your Aperture Library package on your MBA's system drive)?
In what way does an EHD offer better future access than the current storage?
I suggest the answers to those questions is:  in no way is the EHD superior for the needs listed.
There is no _security_ or _future access_ need for your RAW camera files that is better met by an EHD than by storage inside your Aperture Library package.
The reason to relocate Originals from inside your Aperture Library package to a location outside your Aperture Library package is to make your Aperture Library package smaller.  The reason to make your Aperture Library package smaller is to be able to keep it on your system drive.  Your system drive is the best location for your Aperture Library package.
If you want to make your Aperture Library package smaller, relocate your Images' Originals using the command Frank specifies.
Note that none of the above is about _backing up_ your Aperture Library package or your Originals.
You should keep two complete backups, using separate devices, of every computer file you use.
As long as your Originals are inside your Aperture Library package, backing up your Aperture Library package backs up your Originals.
Any Originals that are outside you Aperture Library package, must be backed up in addition to and separately from, your Aperture Library package.
Aperture itself does not care where you store your Originals, as long as they are on a drive that is mounted to your computer.
Originals that are inside your Aperture Library package are called "managed".  Originals that are outside your Aperture Library package are called "referenced".
Referenced Originals can be "on-line" or "off-line".  Images whose Originals are off-line cannot be adjusted, printed, or exported.  You can edit their metadata (including moving them in and out of Albums, etc.).

  • Export RAW file from iPhoto to Aperture

I want to start using Aperture 2 for my photo editing, so I need to import a number of RAW photos that are currently stored in iPhoto. This seems like it should be a simple enough process, but the different methods I have attempted have only resulted in a JPG version of the photo being imported.
I have spent quite a bit of time perusing previous posts and haven't been able to find an answer, so any help or direction would be greatly appreciated!

I don't think there is any reason to export the photos from iPhoto first. Aperture can browse the iPhoto library and will allow you to drag and drop the original files.
    In Aperture:
    1. Pull down File > Show iPhoto Browser.
    2. Find the photos you want, highlight them by Shift+clicking several in a row or Command+clicking discontinuous photos. Make sure the extension on the file corresponds to the type of RAW file your camera shoots (.CR2 for Canon, .NEF for Nikon, etc).
    3. Drag and drop the selected files to the Library icon in the Projects list. This will create a new project called "Untitled Project" that contains your photos.

  • Can I edit my RAW files from Aperture in Adobe Camera Raw in CS5?

I like Aperture for organizing my files and doing simple adjustments. I purchased CS5 and will be taking a class to learn more complex editing. Is there a way to store my photos in Aperture and get them into CS5's Camera Raw in the RAW format? When I try to do that they are tiff or jpg.

In the preferences you are able to select which file type you would like to export to an external editor, the assumption is that you have made basic corrections and accept the RAW processing in Aperture so want to work with a tif or jpeg.
If you are wanting to start from you camera RAW file, ie no processing, you will need to actually export the master file and work from it.

  • How do I open a photo in CS3 as a RAW file from Aperture

How do I open a photo from the Aperture library in Photoshop CS3 so it opens in the RAW converter first, as it would if I opened it from bridge? I can only see options for TIFF and PSD.
    Thanks and regards,
    Craig

You could import your RAW-files as referenced images into aperture. This way your Raw-files would live in a folder structure on one or more harddrives. Third party applications like Photoshop would have access to your files too. You could implement a DAM strategy like Peter Krogh´s (http://www.peterkrogh.com/).
Disadvantage: you would be responsible for a thorough organisation of your files (raws and derivatives).

  • Exporting Raw files from iPhoto to a thumb drive

I shot some photos in camera Raw with my Canon 40D and uploaded them to iPhoto. When I dragged copies of the Raw image file to the desktop they were converted to Jpeg. When I tried dragging them directly from iPhoto to a thumb drive, the same thing happened -- they got automatically converted from Raw to Jpeg.
How can I move Raw files to the desktop or a thumb drive and keep them Raw?
    Thanks
    Greg

Yes, iPhoto has a RAW converter, it's the same one Aperture uses but with less options. The options are available under the Adjust button in Editing Mode
    2. If I shoot in Raw and import into iPhoto then convert to, say, TIFF, does iPhoto have two image files, one RAW, one TIFF?
Yes because iPhoto always preserves your Original file, no matter what. So, if you save it as a jpeg you also have two image files...

  • Exporting RAW files to PS5 from Lightroom

when exporting RAW files from lightroom 3, version 3.6, to photoshop 5, (version 12.04, ACR 6.6), raw files go directly to editor, not camera raw editor. This began only after I went from trial version to full version, before it went to RAW editor.  If loading directly into PS RAW files do go to RAW editor as they should, but not from LIghtroom.
    Please advise

The way it is working now is the way it is supposed to.  I don't know why ACR was opening before.  You do your adjustments in Lightroom, and when you send the image to Photoshop ACR is used to interpret the Lightroom adjustments.  If you want to be able to go back to ACR then you need to open the image as a smart object.

  • Photoshelter and XMP file from Aperture

    Hello,
I exported some Master RAW files from Aperture including the metadata XMP files.
Then I upload the RAW files and the XMP files to Photoshelter.
When I look at the IPTC info on Photoshelter all metadata is there beside the "creation date" of the photo.
The XMP file contains the right information for the creation date as far as I can tell.
Does anybody know, what's wrong here?
    Thanks and Regards,
    JO

It's all run through the server or an external hard drive. We think we found the solution though.
We tried to roll back out Camera Raw version to the 4.4 update since my employer uses Canon cameras and has issues with new version.
Unfortunately we had to scrap the projects I had finished for him, but we're cutting our losses and moving ahead. Neither him or I can sacrifice more time into solving problems and getting this resolved.
    Thank you for the help.

  • I am having trouble exporting .raw files to an external storage device.  Even though I export "original" they end up as jpeg files.  Any idea what I am doing wrong?

I am having trouble exporting .raw files from my Mac Book Air to an external storage device.  Even though I am exporting as "original" they are being exported as jpegs.  Anyone have an idea what I am doing wrong?

Using the "original" setting is the correct way to do it.  Select on of the photos and use the File ➙ Reveal in Finder ➙ Original menu option.  That will take you to the file inside the library via the Finder.  Confirm that what you see if the raw file.
If it is then try the following:  make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home()/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
         User/Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto.  You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.

  • I can no longer import raw files from my Panasonic Lumix LX5 into Aperture 3.3.2 - raw files from my other Canon cameras are fine. Am still running Lion - NOT Mountain Lion. Tried all available software updates - no joy. Any ideas please?

I can no longer import raw files from my Panasonic Lumix LX5 into Aperture 3.3.2 - raw files from my other Canon cameras are fine. Am still running Lion (10.7.4) - NOT Mountain Lion. Tried all available software updates - all up to date apparently but still no joy. OS X Lion shows the LX5 as a supported file format. I dont want to have to upgrade to Mountain Lion just to see if this solves the problem. Any ideas please.

Since when did this happen? Directly after you upgraded to Aperture 3.3.2?
If it happened directly after the upgrade the problem may be, that the raw support for your camera got lost. For some posters it helped to register the raw support again, see this post by Alan Roseman:
Aperture 3 preview of raw file greenish
If this does not help, you may need to reinstall Lion to bring back the raw support.
But if the problem occured independent of a new installation, ypu may have a problem with your camera or the card you are using. Have you tried to use a different card or to reformat the card in the camera?

  • Exporting raw files out of Aperture

How does one go about getting the raw files back out of aperture? I know that when opening the external editor it opens up in Tiff or PDS. I want to get my original Raw file out to being working with out the processing of the raw file in Aperture. Can any one help me?

Option 1. File>Export>Export Master... (also available by Right-clicking/Control-clicking on the selected thumbnails or by pressing Command-Shift-S)
Option 2. File>Relocate Master... and start storing the images as referenced files outside the Library.
Option 3. Use the search box in the top right of the forum pages...

  • Why does Aperture 3,not process RAW files from Leica D-Lux 5 ?

             Hello:
The purchase of my Leica D-Lux 5 came with LR 3. All raw files can be processed in that Application.However.I also have Aperture 3 and it will not process RAW files from the D-Lux 5.I hope that Apple soon will address this inconvenience.Has anyone els had the same problem?
Hoping for a solution; Thanks John Basso.  Mac OS X 10.6.7

I can tell you that it does process them from Panasonic LX5's - I have one. The files are probably very similar with slightly different processing metadata and a different tag. It is possible to change the tag in the RAW file prior to import that "fools" aperture into thinking that the RAW is the same as a camera that is supported. I have done this with other cameras where the RAW files were really the same but the camera was not yet "officially supported" at the time I bought it.
I kinda remember doing it to the EP-2 or was it the EPL-1? Don't remember but there are plenty of tools that will allow this - google is your friend.
Just make sure that your install of Ap3/OS X DOES actually have support for the LX5... Might work but I have not tried it.
