Exporting RAW images from Lightroom 5

My continuing story of space issues. Find that I'm rapidly running out of space now that my wife has been uploading way too many 24 mpixel files (~30Gb total) to my Lightroom 5 catalog. Is there any way to export her RAW files to a thumb drive or another external hard drive?  The only export functions I see are conversions to Jpegs.

Well, dmontabana, I think you have outsmarted yourself.
Export with File Settings as original gives you an unedited photo, with no keywords or other user-created metadata. Furthermore if you have "cleaned up a lot of badly needed disk space", which I assume means you deleted the originals, your Lightroom catalog now thinks the photos are missing, and you will have to do extra work to reconnect the photos in Lightroom.

I'm trying to export a raw image from lightroom 5.6 to Photoshop cc 2014 2.1.  I right click to export menu in lightroom as I've always done to export to Photoshop.  Photoshop opens, but it can't open file, window opens to find a file to open.  I'd like this to export my lightroom images to edit in photoshop as it has always been able to do for me.  What fix do you recommend?

    Hi Ashley Clavette,
The Initial view setting works perfectly when the file is opened in Acrobat after setting the desired Initial View.
When you upload the file onto Wordpress, and view it on that website in the browser...it might be using a different pdf handler program which might be causing this issue ( it would be helpful, if you could provide the screenshot) , however when you download the pdf again from wordpress server...and open in Acrobat/Reader...then what  exactly happens ?  Does the pdf opens in the desired Initial View setting?

  • Printing RAW-images from Lightroom 1.3

When I print RAW-images directly from Lightroom 1.3 (to a Canon Pixma 8500) I get a distinct pink bias in the red colors. The same happens with exported TIFF-file in Prophoto RGB-format. I suppose that's the color space also used with the RAW-format so that's probably what's causing the problem. Printing TIFF-exports in Adobe RGB works fine. Is there a straight forward way to avoid this problem and print the correct colors from RAW/TIFF-Prophoto format?

Are you calibrating your screen using a hardware profiler? If not, you cannot possibly expect the colors to print as you see them on the screen. Next, how are you printing? managed by Lightroom or Managed by printer? The color space of the original (RAW does not have a color space BTW) is immaterial in principle. If you are printing managed by Lightroom, you need to absolutely make sure you turn off color management in the printer driver and that you choose the right profile for the paper you are printing on. Most of the times either of those is what is done wrong. If you are printing managed by driver, you should be aware that some drivers are not correctly written to color manage. I doubt the driver for that printer is though.
    >The same happens with exported TIFF-file in Prophoto RGB-format.
How are your printing this? The space of the source should not matter in a color managed workflow. So if you use something like photoshop, there should be no difference whatsoever between printing a ppRGB TIFF and a adobeRGB tiff as both will get converted to the printer profile.

  • How do I Export Raw images from Iphoto to Adobe Photo Elements 4

I recently purchased Photo elements 4 because I could import images from Iphoto in Raw format and work with them. Everything I have read and the instructional video sent to me by Adobe make it look and sound very easy but so far I have had no success.
I have been able to open Bridge and view photos from Iphoto so it seems to me that everything that I have in Iphoto is automatically transfered to Elements 4. However I can not find my Raw images. What am I doing wrong or failing to do and is there some logical sequence that I have to follow to import Raw images.
I am using a Nikon D200 and just to be safe I have been shooting so the images are saved both in JPEG and RAW.
Thanks for any help you can provide

    dakota8,
iPhoto and Adobe Bridge are incompatible, so you need to decide which one you want to use (for which photos). iPhoto is a database, with many flexible features for organizing your library and finding your photos. Bridge is a file browser with some organizing capabilities. You absolutely should not use Bridge or any other application (Finder included) to browse the files inside your iPhoto Library folder, as it will damage the iPhoto database. To verify, click on iPhoto's Help and read the section "About using the iPhoto Library."
If you want to keep your RAW files in iPhoto, then you'll need to open them from iPhoto. As Dave E said, this can be done by setting the iPhoto pref to export RAW files. You also need to set PE 4 as the external editor in iPhoto's preferences. With this setup, you can select photos using iPhoto, open the RAW files into PE 4, then edit. Now comes the wrinkle in the workflow. Normally, you would do a Save to cause your edited file to be saved back into the iPhoto library. This Save, not Save As, requires that the filename and extension stay the same. Works great with jpeg files. However, once you edit the RAW, the extension (and file format) must change. Save will not work, because any save at this point is treated like a Save As. So you have to Save As to a folder OUTside of your iPhoto Library, and then import it in as a new file. There will be no link between the edited version and its unedited RAW file. You could organize inside iPhoto to display the edited file beside its original RAW, or keep separate rolls for the originals and edits.
With that in mind, you might not want to save the RAW files in iPhoto at all. You could create your own filing system for them, which you would browse using Bridge. Upload using Image Capture to save your files to a folder of your choice. Once you edit the RAW files and save as another format, you could them import into iPhoto for cataloging or further editing. You'll just have to find the system that works best for you.
BTW, don't save your edited RAW files as Adobe RAW. I tried and discovered that iPhoto refuses to import them at all.
I have been able to open Bridge and view photos from Iphoto so it seems to me that everything that I have in Iphoto is automatically transfered to Elements 4.
There's no transferring involved at all. Bridge is rooting directly inside the iPhoto Library folder. Did I mention that it's best to avoid this?
However I can not find my Raw images.
When you import a file it is saved into the Originals folder. Your RAW files are there, along with any video clips you may have imported.
iPhoto automatically creates a jpeg version of your RAW files and stores it in the Modified folder. It has to do this in order to display the picture on your screen. With video clips, a jpeg of the first frame is created for display purposes.
I am using a Nikon D200 and just to be safe I have been shooting so the images are saved both in JPEG and RAW.
If you import both versions into iPhoto, then you have
    Originals - RAW
    Modified - jpeg
    Originals - jpeg
(Modified - jpeg - if you edit the jpeg version or if they are auto-rotated to portrait orientation)
I don't shoot in RAW, so I can't really comment about which workflow would be the most efficient. I just played with it long enough to realize that there is no easy way to do it.
    Regards.

  • Exporting multiple images from lightroom

I would like some advice and help.
For the sake of discussion let us say that I have a catalogue of 1000 image. The images are divided into a number of subfolders, say by year. Each subfolder has from 1 to 100 images. I have finished my editing and want to export all these images to another hard drive---BUT- I want them to remain in the same folder hierarchy as exists in the original catalog. That is, the new hard drive should contain the main folder and subfolders and these subfolders should contain the appropriate images by year, or whatever.
Is there an "easy" to do this or must i export folder by folder to the new hard drive. my aim being to have a complete set of final images.
Perhaps I should add that these are scanned images of 30 to 100 year old photographs and the "negatives" are jpg and tif.

May I assume you often post from mail or usenet?
    By mail, yes.
    >Quite a number of times we see a blank "message" from you; at others quoting a lot of the previous post, which is seldom necessary. While it may be a pain to you, could you use the web format?
    >
It will save some of us time by not looking at messages which contain nothing.
Sorry about that. I don't like, and probably won't use, the web
interface. The blank part is due to the stupidity of the web software,
which automatically cuts off all text after "w r o t e", instead of
including everything the poster includes in their message. One of the
reasons why I don't want to use the software is how dumb it is ... I
try and quote back only the specific lines I am responding to (like
now), as proper netiquette requires. If I had to use the web format ..
I probably wouldn't use it at all (yeah, I have that much respect for
it ), and so wouldn't be offering any help at all (little as it may
    be).
Here's what I said last time:
He wants to export the adjusted originals as new files to the new destination. This will only give him a copy of the originals in the new destination, won't it?
Perhaps I mis-understood; I thought he wanted to move all his files to
a new HD, and continue to use them there. The method I mentioned
should keep all the edits (either in the XMP, which is also moved, or
in the catalog). The catalog is the same; he's just repairing the
links to the (now moved) files. That should keep the edits with the
    images, shouldn't it?

  • Photoshop won't open image from lightroom

When I try to export an image from Lightroom to Photoshop (CC) Photoshop opens, but the image doesn't.

Trying to export RAW originals from Aperature 3 to LightRoom 4: I choose File>Export>Originals. Then Pictures>LR. But then I can't find files in LR library.Files seem stuck in Pictures as NEF and or DNG files. I know Im stuck on something dumb but I am stuck. Help?

You now need to import those files into Lightroom.
BTW, Lightroom uses a "referenced" system so your images will always be in the folders you download/copy them to. Lightroom is a database first and foremost, albeit with non-destructive editing capabilities (effectively Adobe Camera Raw).

  • I can't see previews of RAW images from a Canon PowerShot G16 in Lightroom 4

I can't see previews of RAW images from a Canon PowerShot G16 in Lightroom 4?

For that camera, you need at least Lightroom 5.2. The alternative would be to use the DNG converter, version 8.2 or later. Or, you can upgrade to Lightroom 5.

I have Lightroom 3.6 and it does not recognize the raw images from my canon 7d mark II, suggestions, do I need to upgrade?

Yes, you need an upgrade for native support in Lightroom. You need version 5.70 or higher; current version is 5.71.
Alternatively, you could use the most recent DNG converter and convert the raw files to DNG files before importing into Lightroom.

  • How set Elements9 Organizer as default to upload raw images from card reader? Defaults to Lightroom

How do I set Elements9 Organizer as my default to upload raw images from computer's  sd card reader?  It defaults to Lightroom.

The two raw files you've uploaded to dropbox are corrupted so Lightroom and Photoshop are giving you the correct message.  At least with these two, the embedded JPG preview is there but the raw data is not correct so cannot be rendered.  Here is the error that Canon's own software gives when the files are attempted to be edited:
You should reattempt to copy the images from the memory cards to your computer using a card reader and an operating-system function (Explorer or Finder) to do it rather than LR or a cable connected to the camera, then see if things work any better.  If you already used a card reader, then try a different one and see if the situation improves.
If you cannot get a better set of images by retransferring them, then we can work through how to extract the embedded JPG previews en masse.
