Exporting raw to jpegs

I have a few hundred images that I shot in Camera Raw, that I've modified and corrected in Bridge (CS3) & Photoshop (CS3). I now have a need to export them to JPG, and each way that I've tried has resulted in images that look nothing like what I see in Bridge.
1) I first tried exporting them with a batch file that I created (saves as jpg @ quality 12). This results in my images having a very yellow tint, compared to with the originals in Bridge.
2) Used the Image Processor under (Tools -> Photoshop). This resulted in very washed out images by comparisom.
Any help/suggestions would be great!

Hi all,
I'm new to LR and can't work out how to get the export setting working as I want. What I want to be able to do is:
1. Import a number of photos into a collection (a mix of RAW and jpeg)
2. Develop the photos that I deem necessary
3. Export the whole collection to a specific folder on my hard drive as jpeg, but for the jpegs in the collection that I have not developed, I want to keep as original
I realise I could just export the developed versions as jpegs, and then manually add the unmodified jpegs, but this seems a bit fiddly and unnecessary. Is it possible to do what I'm trying? I'm using LR 4.1.

I want to create a collection in LR. Then after developing certain images, I want to export the whole collection to different location on my hard drive, while converting the developed files as jpeg, but keeping the non-developed files as originals (but still exporting them to the location). So I would have my 'master' folder in which I keep all my originals, and then a separate folder just for a specific collection, all in jpeg. The reason I want a separate physical location is that I have that location set to automatically sync with cloud storage, so others can view it.
What I was hoping to see when exporting my collection as jpeg was an option for something like 'keep undeveloped jpegs as original'.
Doesn't look l;ike I can do exactly what I want to. I'll find a way I can work with.

Exporting RAW into JPEG, color differences

I've done a lot of searching in these forums and I can't find a solution to my problem. I just spent 30+ hours editing a set of 123 wedding photos in RAW file format. When I export to JPEG, the colors change on just about every photo. I understand that if I would have correctly set up the camer calibration prior to editing, this would have possibly solved my problem. However, the photos are already edited. When I export the files in TIFF, they look fine. It's just the JPEG file format that changes the look of my images. I'm using Lightroom 2.3. My last brainstorm involved importing the already edited TIFF files and then trying to export those into JPEG, the color format was still off. Can anyone Help?

What program do you use to look at the jpegs?
Is your screen calibrated?
What OS are you using?

Exporting RAW to JPEG and TIFF

Evaluating LE to hopefully improve some workflow. I noticed however, that when export to a JPEG or TIFF format the file size seems much smaller that I'm accustomed. A D100 9.5MB RAW file converts to appx 2.7Mb JPEG at 100% and appx 7MB in TIFF. Currently when I convert I get a 17-20MB JPEG. I'm I missing something in the setup or is this the larger file size LE produces.

Excuse me Lightroom. I currently use Portfolio 8 to review and tagged a large number of images for production. They have a conversion process that allows you to convert a NEF file to JPEG or TIFF. When converting to from a NEF file that is appx 9.5MB in size to a JPEG at 100% @300DPI which is what my clients require, it produces a a JPEG file that ranges from 17-23MB depending the amount of information. But I still have to pull that image into editing SW to do some cleanup or slight exposure adjustments. It was my hopes that by using Lightroom, I could slimline a couple of these processes. But if LR only provides a exported JPEG file size of what I've seen thus far, then I would unable to accomplish this.
Is this better clarification of my question?

Crashing when exporting Raw to Jpeg Windows

when converting from raw to jpegs sometimes my computer crashes completely, a complete stop!!!!
other times it comes up with problem and needs to shut down listing

no phone was connected to my pc, the problem is when i run up lightroom, sometimes i can use it then it may suddenly crash the computer switching off completley, other times it says lightroom has a problem and needs too shut down the bout info is what is shown as the problem. hope this helps.

I have experimented in changing the resolution to 300, resizing to 18MP (which is the native size from my camera (Canon 7D), leaving the resizing box unchecked, and tried all all levels and types of sharpening, and none of these settings makes any improvement. I honestly do not think this is an issue of color calibration. The images that I get when I convert from RAW to JPG are are very poor quality, but not so much noise as they appear pixelated. I am going to try to attach a screen capture of a RAW image and a JPG that has been converted. Realize there is a bit of loss of quality in both of these images as they were done by the print screen function, then saved as BMP and then JPG..But doing it this way actually produced a much better quality image than exporting the RAW file to JPG in LR3. Both of these images were saved at 100%
The image at the top is a small segment of the RAW capture at 100% and the bottom one is a segment of the same area of the exported JPG at 100% Note the writing and how it is very pixelated. I think you would agree that it is quite a deterioration in quality. Any suggestions you have would be greatly appreciated.

Exporting RAW to JPEG, losing EXIF data

Hi,
When I am exporting a RAW image from Aperture to a JPEG image I'm losing metadata. Specifically: Lens, Serial #, Flash exposure and focus data. I always select 100% JPEG with the "include metadata" checked.
Any suggestions or is this a bug?

Export RAW to JPEG too SMALL?

When I export a 9.5mb RAW/NEf file to jpeg, (100% quality, 240 ppi, default, original size), the jpeg file size is around 2-3mb.
If I convert the RAW/NEF file in the Nikon Editor, the jpeg version is around 6-7mb...much better.
I can't give my clients jpegs burned onto a DVD that are only 2-3mb?? Especially if they want good 8x10's, or 11x14's!! Not very professional.
Is it compressing it more than Nikon Editor, or am I missing something?

You should look at the files, not at their sizes. You cannot judge quality from filesize. There is no reason you couldn't get an outstanding 12x18 from a 2 MB jpeg file. Often the only thing bigger files do is take up more space.

You might be scaling by accident, but usually the image is just not very complex. The filesize you get in jpeg is related to complexity of the image. If you have large areas of solid color, the filesize will turn out small. If you have lots of noise and lots of complex shapes (like a grass field for example) you will get large files.

Exporting RAW to jpeg and keeping the develop changes?

Hi. I have my RAW files and catalogs safely backed up on external drives. Now I want to export some files to DVD's. I want these to be hi res jpegs with all the develop changes I made to them in LR, in case I ever want to go back and work on them again. I've done some tests and when I look at these exported photos in LR I see the photo as it was when I finished developing it but with none of my develop settings. How can I do this? Thanks

I understand the need for redundant raw files and catalogs, that's why I have 3 copies on various drives at home. I'm looking for off site storage (and I hate monthly fees to store them in the cloud) so I thought I'd put them on DVDs and store them at work. These are copies I hope I never have to use but if I do I'd like the originals and all my edits. I was hoping to use jpegs to save a little space.
JimHess says I can't do it and 99jon I tried your method but I must be doing something wrong because it didn't work. If you all tell me I should just use my OS to copy the original RAW files and the catalog to DVD (that how I backup to internal and external drives now), I'll do that, I was just looking for a way to do it in LR.

RAW to JPEG color issue

When I export RAW to JPEG then pull up the picture in window explorer. The picture in Windows Explorer is much darker than what is in LR.
How do I resolve this issue?

I understand that a color profile is not embedded inside a jpg file. This is not what I was asking, mybe I have to explain better what my issue is:
I shoot Raw (the 5DMkII also creates a jpg); then import the Raw to LR2.3; my computer uses a color calibrated and profiled Eizo Monitor and a second one, Dell STN display, also color profiled.
The Eizo display picture of the RAW gets white balanced by the WB tool of LR. Now, colors look natural. I then export to jpg. I do not use any export setting other than choosing size and standard sharpening for screen display, the export color setting is sRGB, always.
As a result, the exported jpg looks redish, unnatural, oversaturated, on the same monitor. the original jpg from the camera looks natural, as the pic appears as Raw in LR. I still have to figure how photo prints look like, but I do not have a color printer, I use a photo shop around the corner.
of course, on my secondary monitor the photo out of cam and the raw picture of LR look natural but more flat (as the monitor has a smaller color room).
So, how does the jpg export from LR create a redish look of a picture that is created by the 5D in a natural looking way?

Lightroom 5.6 Export RAW to Resized JPEG Producing Poor Quality Images

I have the latest Lightroom 5.6 and am running into a problem that I never had EVER and I've been using the same workflow since LR1. I shoot in RAW and want to send my client JPEG proofs (resized to 1000px, 100% quality, and 96dpi, sRGB). I use the export feature and have tried everything, even saving the resized image at 300dpi but the export results are still absolutely horrible. The photo is muddled and blurry no matter what I try. This is obviously not a color space issue, or monitor/browser issue and as I said before, I've done resizing through LR plenty of times without this much compression loss. Anyone else running into this? What's the solution?
I took the same RAW file and exported to JPEG with resizing checked off and the image looked sharp as a tack like my RAW file in LR.
So, there is obviously something wrong with LR RAW to JPEG export when resizing. Which has NEVER been an issue before.

Never seen anything like that before. I export with resizing all the time. As long as the quality is somewhat up from 80% (100% is complete overkill) and I do appropriate output sharpening, the quality is always superb. Of course there is only so much you can do with a 1000 pixels so don't expect to zoom endlessly in on that. The ppi does not matter at all when you specify a size in pixels. Can you post an example?

Problems exporting RAW + JPEG Pairs

I have imported my images as RAW + JPEG Pairs (JPEG is Master)
When I try to export originals, there are two problems:
1. Aperture exports both the JPEG and the RAW file. Is there anyway to force it to export just the file that is set as the master (in this case, the JPEG)?
2. More problematic--the RAW files are exported in the correct orientation, but the JPEG files that have been shot in portrait orientation are rotated 90 degrees clockwise. Is there anyway to prevent this?

There's an easier way:
Open the Aperture library contents (ctrl-click, select "show pkg contents"), and navigate to masters/year/month/day/downloads, and delete the raw file(s).
You can view by kind, and delete all the raw files in a project this way; just make sure you haven't assigned any of the raw files as master.
So far, I have not observed any adverse effects to the Aperture database, but they may be coming. I always archive all the files off-line before importing to Aperture, no nothing is completely irreversible.
It would still be nice, as another poster said somewhere, to render a raw file as a new jpg master, and then delete the raw, but I use raws so rarely, that deleting the ones I don't use gives me 90% of the disk savings.

Exporting RAW masters of RAW-JPEG Pairs

Is there any way to export only the RAW master of a RAW-JPEG pair? I always shoot both RAW and JPEG. In my workflow, I first import into Aperture the JPEG's. I then group into stacks, choose my stack picks, and finally rate all my stack picks. I then will go back and only import those RAW files which match my stack picks. Occasionally, I would like to edit my RAW files outside of Aperture using Capture NX2 and would like to export only those RAW files. Exporting a "version" only allows to export a JPEG/TIFF or other file. Exporting "masters" exports both master files, the JPEG and the RAW. Is there a way to only export the RAW master?

I'm frustating about how Aperture give RAW+jpg pairs and once imported is not easy to select one of the two files depending on the case. I read recently a good solution, you can import Both as masters(RAW and JPG) and select AutoStack(⌥⌘A)
with a short time span (0:02) and Aperture will import the two masters of each photo, and later you'll be free to use one of them. And you can reject manually all the RAWs that you don't want to store.

What does your package include besides this disc?
If your artistry and production are at a high-level and you are charging tens of thousands of dollars then protecting your reputation and future-sales possibilities by not giving them a disc might be wise, but if you just want to be done with things after you get paid, then a disc or flash-drive of native-resolution (not resized) and uncropped JPGs might give the most freedom for the client, although if I was your client, I’d want the RAWs or at least DNGs with your settings saved to them. If there is enough space on the media then you could put a folder of JPGs and a folder of TIFs, separately. It depends on how many you’re giving them. If you’re high-end you could give them an Wi-Fi iPad with the photos on it, or at least a non-Apple tablet with a removable flash-card for more easy offloading.

Using the "original" setting is the correct way to do it. Select on of the photos and use the File ➙ Reveal in Finder ➙ Original menu option. That will take you to the file inside the library via the Finder. Confirm that what you see if the raw file.
If it is then try the following: make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
User/Home()/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
User/Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.

3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto. You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.

I have been getting this error when trying to export RAW images to JPEG. The preset I had been using worked fine until I started getting this error all of a sudden. Copied below I have the preset info and the error. Anyone have an idea of what I should do?
