EXPORTING SCROLLABLE FRAMES TO EPUB

HI ALL,
DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW TO EXPORT SCROLLABLE FRAMES IN EPUB? I AM BUILDING AN EPUB BOOK FOR ANDROID AND I HAVE SOME SCROLLABLE FRAMES THAT WORK FINE WHEN I PREVIEW THEM, BUT THEN WHEN I EXPORT THEM THE FUNCTIONALITY IN TH EPUB FILE IS LOST. DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW TO FIX THIS PROBLEM?
THANKS
CR

thanks Carl.
I had found this same link on the forum, but not being a programmer myself I was hopping there would be a more straightforward solution!
I am having a book a wrote on ibooks author and published with Apple, now trying to also do in a format that would be compatible with non-Apple users, but I am finding that for simple users like me InDesign is a bit of a nightmare! Apple has a number of plug-and-play powerful widgets in ibooks author and trying to get the same functionality in inDesign and EPUB does not seem to be possible.
but thanks for your help and for replying.

  • Scrollable Frame solution for EPUB Fixed Layout

    Hi,
I have found a solution (or, rather a hack) which allows us to create scrolling frames for EPUB Fixed Layouts.
You can find the exported EPUB, as well as my InDesign file on my Dropbox: EPUB scroll.
This solution has some weak points and has only been tested in iBooks on an iPad with iOS 8, but here's how it works:
Create two text frames (one as big as your text requires, and one which will be the container [tip: make the container a bit wider than the text frame])
Cut the big text frame, select the smaller container frame, and Edit->Paste into
Right click on the container, select Object Export Options, choose EPUB and HTML and enter "subchapter" as epub:type:
Open a text editor and create a new CSS file. For CSS code, see below
Export as Fixed layout EPUB. In the export dialog box, select the CSS tab and add the previously created CSS file
    Done!
    CSS code:
    div[*|type = "subchapter"] {
    position: relative;
    div[*|type = "subchapter"] > div {
    overflow: auto;
As you see, steps 1 and 2 are essentialy the same as for creating a scrollable frame folio overlay.
It’s not perfect, and this solution is just a proof-of-concept, but it should get you going.
An obvious problem is that we use basic HTML scrollbar, which is not being displayed in e-book readers such as iBooks on the iPad. Hence, the user has now idea how long the scrollable content stretches. This could probably be solved with a more complex, JS-based solution.
Also, the gradient feather at the bottom (which is intended to create a "fade-out effect) seems not to export well. This one should be easy to solve, placing another rectangle with a gradient in it. But I’m not sure if transparency exports well, and haven’t tested it.
Feel free to use, and improve, this hack!
    Thanks,
    /Jacob

    Thank you Uwe,
I look and hold you aware of your solution in an environment EPUB

@Papo – then I would suggest not a scrollable frame, but an MSO you can click through showing the whole text.
    1. Do some text frames the same size
    2. Thread all the text frames to one story
    3. Align the text frames
    4. Make a MSO out of it:
The text frames are still threaded and text can easily flow between them.
    5. Do some navigation buttons to control the MSO states:
"Go To First State", "Go To Next State", "Go To Previous State" etc.
Later you can change the text (add or remove, do different formatting) flowing in that story through the states.
A very flexible solution. Ok, it's not a scrollable frame, but something like that…

  • Scrollable frame/content in fixed layout epub

I am suggesting that Adobe InDesign be enhanced with the capability to generate scrollable frames/content in the development of fixed layout epubs.
This is one way that Adobe could appease Creative Cloud subscribers, given the planned retirement of DPS Single Edition, effective May 01, 2015,

  • Scrollable Frame issue on iPad 'Adobe Viewer'

I'm wondering if anyone else has this issue when previewing a folio with the iPad viewer.
The issue is when I have a full (or even part) page scrollable frame on a page and once I have vertically swiped/scrolled to the end of the scrollable frame, then the next vertical swipe seems to stick much more than usual and requires a much longer/sustained swipe to get it to move on to the next page.
This issue is only occuring when previewing a folio on the iPad viewer. It behaves as expected (short normal swipes) when previewed on the Desktop 'Content Viewer'. It also behaves as expected when simply previewing from the Folio Overlays panel – both on the Desktop viewer and iPad viewer. It also behaves if I import the article as PNG format into a folio, however I am requiring vector quality/display for this project so can't ignore the issue.
It also does not fix the issue to select 'raster' rather than 'vector' in export options within the 'scrollable frame' folio overlay panel.
My first thought was that maybe this is just a quirk of the iPad viewer, but the fact that the behaviour works in most other scenarios has me guessing. Maybe i am missing something somewhere which may explain this. I see the use of Scrollable Frames in this manner within many apps (in vector/PDF) without experiencing this issue, hence why I am leaning towards it being a quirk of the viewer when as a folio with a PDF scrollable frame.
I am using the latest viewers (Desktop and iPad app). The folio's tested trying to resolve this issue have been in both v26 and v27. Using InDesign CS6 on Mac. Same issue happens whether iPad is horizontal or vertical.
Please let me know if you need any further details on my setup or what i have been testing if that will help.
    Thanks
    Ross

i had this problem once, in the folio producer have you given the folio a name, number and description?
also in the viewer on the ipad they are not nessecarily in the right order - so scoot about on it
if all else fails, delete the folio and re-upload, we had a glitch once and the only solution was to re upload

  • BUGS: stop at last image and scrollable frames

    Hey,
I think I've identified two bugs in the latest release:
    1) MSO slideshows that have Autoplay checked, don't respect the "Stop at last image" option, and return to the first stage regardless. This behavior only occures some of the times, and I am not certain what makes it happen. I think it may only happen with slideshows in which are configured to be exported in vector format.
    2) Scrollable boxes that are configured to be vertically scrollable only, are also horizontally scrollable, if the content of the scrollable box exeeds the horizontal limits of the scrollable frame.
Did anyone else expirience these bugs? Any workarounds or fixes?
    Thanks

    Doesn’t anyone bother to read?
I’m sorry, but It’s getting quite frustrating answering the same question over and over.
We now have about 15 threads on the same subject.
If you had read back just a few posts you’d know there’s a bug causing this.

  • SWF movie export on frame-by-frame basis WITH actionscript

    Hi there,
I know they're two ways of exporting flash movies:
Export the whole timeline. This only allows timeline animations and gets messy because you have to cram up everything on the main timeline.
Realtime-Export via Quicktime. This is a "full blown" export, but heavily dependent on CPU power or speed of harddrive, depending on resolution.
I also work a lot with music programs and there is an option called "mixdown". This will render the whole song - as fast as the processor is capable - to a WAV-file. So time doesn't matter anymore, notes don't get skipped, etc.
I would like to see something like this in flash, too. WITH actionscript.
I just want flash to export one frame for each "onEnterFrame" event, NOT when the timer tells you, it's time for a "next frame". So this would mean not to trigger the onEnterEvent when the appropiate time has passed, but to trigger it, when the next frame can be exported.
Libraries like "TweenLite/Max" are capable of doing frame-based animations, independent from the timer, so everything on that end is pretty fine.
Would be so great if that was possible in any way.
Is it already in CS5? Or maybe an option in CS6... argh, so many years to wait...
until then, I have to measure the fps, look out for the lowest number, export at THAT framerate (in most of the cases just 4 or 5 fps, even on a very fast computer - just because 2 or 3 frames happen to render slower than the other 200) and afterwarts set it to 25 again (I use Blender to do this)

    Greg-
    Good Lead - Thanks.
I learned that having skinned components (which this uses)
keeps this preloader from working properly. The results were
unstable. It looks like a great little preloader for other things
    though.
I also learned that it's a problem that others have
encountered and that hasnt been solved yet...
    ...."hello Adobe?"
Thanks again for helping me understand this.

  • Export in frame 1

    I have a simple question.
I am using version CS6 and in the symbols properties panel that you get when you right click a symbol (in my library) and go to properties, there is a checkbox under Advanced, and it says "Export in frame 1". Now i know what it is to link a symbol to a class, but i dont know what this means. Should i check it? Please enlighten me on this, I have checked all adobe resources, and have found nothing on it.

typically you would leave that checked.
but if you did not need some resources loaded in frame 1 and their download is delaying the download of other assets and causing a problem, you can uncheck that and, in the publish settings>advanced actionscript settings, assign classes to export in a frame other than 1.

  • Export from Pages to ePub??

Help! I need to export from Pages to epub.  I've read the tutorial a hundred times and it says that when you click on "export" one of the options should be epub.  However,  my only options are pdf, word, or rtf.  What am I doing wrong?

If your admin bought the iWork package as a DVD, Pages '09 version 4.0.3 is really the late version available on this media.
As fruhulda wrote, you must get and apply an updater (maybe you must ask the admin to do that, I know that some of them are a bit picky).
PS, since last wednesday, the best Apple tool to create ePub is the free iBooks Author.

  • Final Cut Pro X Image Sequence Export missing frames per second option?

I am using the trial version of Final Cut Pro X.  I can export an image sequence but it will only allow me to do so at 30 frames per second -every single frame!
So a 10 min movie takes half an hour to export 20,000+ frames that no one on earth has time to look thru.
In my old Final Cut Express I was able to choose 1 or 2 frames per second, which was just right.
    What am I missing?
Do I need to buy Quicktime Pro or Compressor to allow me to export image sequences without exporting every frame?
Why would Apple even have an image sequence export if it only allows you to export every frame, or it that only in the trial version?
    Thank you

I found a free option for you, if you don't already have Compressor 4.
In FCPX create your movie. Then SHARE as a Master File.
Get MPEG Streamclip, which is a free app available here.
    http://www.squared5.com/svideo/mpeg-streamclip-mac.html
Drag your Master File into MPEG Streamclip.
In MPEG Streamclip, select FILE/EXPORT TO OTHER FORMATS.
    In FORMAT: choose IMAGE SEQUENCE
In OPTIONS, choose your frame rate.

  • Scrollable frame is text: anchored object in text can not be button?

Following example: A textframe. With an anchored object (group). Paste textframe in other frame to make scrollable frame (pan only). Select anchored frame in already pasted into textframe, make button for anchored object (go to state).
Does not work, button does nothing (and yes a converted it to a button after the paste into other frame as last step).
    Not possible?
    DPS v18

If you want the button in the scrollable frame to control an MSO state, the button/scrollable frame needs to be part of the MSO. It is an InDesign limitation that buttons cannot control videos, audio clips, or MSOs unless they're on the same "level" in the document.

  • Anchored objects into scrollable frame?

    Good evening,
is it possible to link a button to another page in a precise point in a scrollable frame?
    Many thanks!

No. Page navigation is about as precise as you can get.

  • Problem with V19 Scrollable Frame

I have a magazine that worked find on V18 of producer tools, since I upgraded to V19 I am having ptoblems.
I have a standard page size 2048x1536 (iPad 3), and I have the whole page set as a scrollable frame with a background placed behind it. Then all my content for the page is pasted into the scrollable frame which runs much lower than the 2048 page length. You can then scroll the page within the scrollable frame rather than having a long page to scroll down. This also creates a nice layering effect where the content moves on top of a static background.
This worked fine for me on V18 producer tools, but now when I load my magazine onto my iPad, I'm scrolling through articles and when I hit the page with the scrollable frame you can no longer scroll left or right and you're stuck on the page...
Any idea how I can fix this as I have a client that has seen and likes the layering effect? Last thing I want to do is have to remove it and just make a long page.

    Which totally sucks, BTW.
If you use JPG or PNG then it works but you lose the razor sharp text and pinch and zoom that PDF provides.
I really don't get this one, either. Especially since the scrollable frames option gives you the ability to make it vertical only. That should eliminate any "confusion" as to which way to you want to scroll and which way you want to swipe.

  • Where is the "Scrollable Frame" on the Overlay Creator panel?

I can't seem to find the "Scrollable Frame" on my Overlay Creator panel and now I'm caught in the middle. Is there anything that I missed? I can only see the following:
    Hyperlink
    Slideshow
    Image Sequence
    Audio & Video
    Panorama
    Web Content
    Pan & Zoom.

I know you mean the other Bob, but the purpose of that is to have something to align with the edge of the scrollable content.
Without the dummy content you wouldn’t be able to position the content. Try doing it without that and you’ll see the problem.

  • Scrollable frames. Buttons not working.

    Hello.
I have a problem with buttons in the scrollable frames.
I have a slideshow with a thumb's. Each thumb consist of MSO (non active icon and active icon) and clear frame - button to that MSO and to slide foto. The thumb's grouped and placed into the frame with horizontal scroll overlay effect.
That frame placed into another frame-pull out tab, which have vertical scroll effect. And when I pressed the button, slide fotos changes correctly, but button MSO not working.

Sorry for my english. I need help very much.
    Thanks.

    Hi,
I understand that I can use two 'states'  of the buttons. And I tried it. But. Buttons renditions are raster images. And on the retina display we had bad quality. My target was to create vector buttons. With good quality on both displays.
    Any suggestions?

    Hi (again),
It seems that you built your stuff in a very complicated way.
    First, try to make simple!
You mixed MSO and buttons functions. Useless and unfonctional.
Yous should use only button panel, with two different 'states' ('Normal' and 'Clic').
See below (no MSO function used at all for the button):
    http://forums.adobe.com/servlet/JiveServlet/downloadImage/2-5735625-468602/445-605/Button_ 1.jpg http://forums.adobe.com/servlet/JiveServlet/downloadImage/2-5735625-468603/448-605/Button_ 2.jpg
Use the layer panel to easily select the objects you want to modify.

  • Hyperlinks in a scrollable frame moving on scroll

    Context:
Application for iPad, created in inDesign with DPS.
    Situation:
We have a table inserted into a vertically scrollable frame. On top, we have a series of links that correspond to the table text (please see screenshot below).
    Problem:
When the table is scrolled all the way to the top, the links shift and no longer correspond the text.
    Details:
The links and the table are grouped. They were cut and placed into a scrollable frame.
              The links work.
              The scrolling works.
The links correspond properly to the text when the content is in the 'top left'.
Scrolling partly up, the links are still okay.
Scrolling all the way up, and the links scroll further than the table, causing them to be off.
    Screenshot below:
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Bob. I think I found the problem -- the new guy hadn't removed the old scrollable frame from the text when he added the links, so the links were in a scrollable frame, and the text table was actually inside two scrollable frames.
Sorry to have wasted your time with something that turned out to be an error on our side.
