Exporting sections of the timeline

I want to export sections of the timeline in DV format to be later reopened in iDVD to create chapters.
What should I do?
- Anthony

Anthony,
First, select the clip or series of clips you wish to export.
Now choose File>Share>QuickTime and select Full Quality from the dropdown menu.
Last, and most importantly, check the "Share selected clips only" check box.
Click Share and you'll have your DV clip.

  • Exporting sections of a timeline

    Using Premiere Pro 5.5:
I am editing several days worth of classroom instruction. I am making clips of examples of the instruction techniques used by the instructor, and not the actual class memebers participation. As such, I am only capturing and rendering for final output snips of the instructor's comments and coaching.
Is there a way to highlight a section of the timeline video and export just that selection of the timeline, without having to notate the time code in and out points?
I have been making a note of the time code at the In and Out points, selecting the File>Export... command, then chosing the "custom" choice in the dropdown box and manually entering the time code to get the selection I'd like to export to a final file.
Is there a better way to do this in 5.5?
    Many thanks!

Yes, that little WAB is a "hidden gem," IMHO. I use some aspect of it, almost daily. Now, if there WAS a way to completely restore the "auto expand" function, after it has been adjusted. Maybe time for another Feature Request?
I look at my wife's iPad, and her iPhone, and can tell that they do not like me - even when they are turned off.
One day, I will start thinking X-platform better, and mention Mac & PC keystrokes, like good authors do. I am just so danged PC-centric, that I too often forget my Mac-brothers, across the street.
    Good luck,

New to FCP. Dropped frames when playing section in the timeline w/audio, Viewer plays fine tho. Plays for bout 1 sec with no sound, nothing showing coming through the audio meters. Problem came out the blue, made no conscious changes to settings. FCP 7.0.3. iMac, 2.7 GHz Intel Core i5. OS10.8.4. If any other info needed please let me know, will be happy to provide it. Thanx.

Thank you for the help. Below is my Source footage and sequence settings.
The other footage I have on the timeline is an mp3 file made in Garage Band and some footage I sent to Motion to edit. I do have some offline media on there since I switched computers but FCP had been working fine for a few months with it on there. I have not tried trashing my FCP Preferences. If I did would I have to back up my project?

  • Exporting a section of the timeline with FCPx

Does anyone have a clue how to just export a section of timeline out with FCPx. In FCP7 you would just set your In/Out points on the timeline, go to File->Export and walla!, a segmented section of your masterpiece that you could send to a VFX or Audio Dept, etc. for tweaking. I know most, including myself, would like to give a snarky answer (such as Revert back) but I'm trying to explore FCPx to the best of my ability and am looking for a straight up answer

As far as I am aware, Apple laid off the old FCP team and hired a new team, under the lead of the iMovie designer. The same team that changed iMovie and made it "better".
Please read this article from Apple Insider from 2010.

I love Final Cut Pro, but leaving out simple things is not good at all. Even in QuickTime I can export a selection of a clip in a few simple steps? There needs to be tighter integration of FCP with Motion. Now that Shake is dead.

  • Export part of the timeline

    Hi,
Is it possible to mark in/out on the timeline and only export this part in PPRO CS3?
    Thanks in advance.
    /Ulf

You can do it, but not with In & Out points. You do it by setting the work area bar to the portion you want to export, and setting the export options to Work Area rather then Entire Sequence.

  • Exporting clips in the timeline with handles

Is there a way to export a selected clip in the timeline with handles? I know you can export all the clips in the timeline with handles using Media Manager, but is there a way to do it with just one clip?
I should ask- is there a quicker way? because I know one way is to drag the clip up to V2 and just manually extend handles to the clip and export it that way. I was hoping for a quicker method. I need to export some self-containted clips that I can reinsert for sending the sequence to Color.

    Thanks. Snap is enabled.
I added 30 clips at once from the project bin onto the timeline. So I was really amazed that there were small gaps between some clips. When I tried to repair this (hold CTrl and move the clips to the left) the puzzle began. It happened that moving the clip only three frames to the left, I lost 15 seconds of the total. I discovered this was either a total loss of a clip (not he one I moved, but a clip say three clips to the right) or it was considerably shorter in time.
First I thougt it had to do with my good old dualcore (1.8Ghz), but on the new one (Quad 2.4Ghz) it is still the same.
This is the first time it happens (after 3 completed small projects).
From now on I will only drag one clip at the time to minimize the chance on this behaviour.
But you will understand, I'm not happy...

  • How can i render just  section of the timeline?

Is there i way of setting the IN and OUT points in the timeline and pressing "cmd + R" and render only the selected section? or something like it?
    thank you
    Leon.

You can also do select In->Out (opt a) and render just a portion of a clip.

  • Exporting clips from the timeline as separate files

I captured an entire tape of video and edited out the takes, and now I would like to export individual clips that were already cut with the razor as separate Quicktime files so they can be brought into DVD Studio Pro.
Is there a way to do this other than copying each segment to a separate project and saving that way?

Create a new bin. Make the timeline active, hit command a (or select-all) drag to bin. This should create copies of all the clips in the timeline with the appropriate ins and outs. Do a batch export and make sure "export in to out" is selected.

  • How do you mark a section from the timeline to send to Compressor 4 using Final Cut Pro X?

I am trying to send just a certain piece from the Timeline to Compressor 4 using Final Cut Pro X and I can't figure it out. Please help!

The video itself is intirely 5 minutes, but the timeline goes to 24 hrs.
    24 hours?
If you select the timeline and press Shift+Z do you see a lot of black space in the timeline? If so, you may have a huge gap clip (although I fail to understand how you achieved it). Click on it and if it can be selected, delete it with the Backspace Key (next to the = key).
    Then press Shift+Z again.
If I've got this wrong, can you post a screen grab of your timeline?

  • Auto Exporting Sections of a timeline

Newbie to FCP. I've been given a single timeline with 50 x 3 minute clips that required minimal editing. The editing is now complete. Is there a way to export the shortened clips back out automatically? or do I need to manually set an in and out and export a clip at a time? Any advice?

Well if you just want to export a bunch of trimmed clips according to their timeline duration then you can use Media Manager to do it in one quick go ... select the Sequence, choose File > Media Manager, set it to "Copy", uncheck "Include master clips outside selection", check "Delete unused media from duplicated items", select a Media Destination, and click OK ... but if you have "edited" the clips in other ways, changing motion properties, adding filters etc or if you don't actually mean you want to export clips but rather clip sequences then you'll need to handle the export somewhat more manually as already suggested.

  • How do I move clips in one pane of iMove (10.0.3) into the timeline?  iMovie somehow doesn't realize I'm trying to edit the clips.

How do I move clips in one pane of iMove (10.0.3) into the timeline?  iMovie somehow doesn't realize I'm trying to edit the clips.

    Try this:
Select a small portion of the clip in the event (Above the timeline)
Click and hold and drag that section into the timeline, it should snap into place but if you drag it above another clip, it will not replace it but will be placed on top and the sound from the other clip will still play. Also this will allow you to use Blue/Green screen modes as well as picture in picture.
The best way is to drag it to the far right

  • Why is DVD SP4 creating a corrupt video in the timeline when the corruption does not appear in the imported Quicktime ProRes 422 self contained movie?

I am having a strange issue that just occurred when trying to create a DVD using DVD Studio Pro 4. The workflow is as follows: Import a self contained Quicktime ProRes 422 as an asset into DVDSP 4. Drag the assets onto Track 1 in the Graphical viewer as a First Play item. The video is only corrupted in a section of the timeline, yet when you look at that section in Quicktime the video appears to be ok. Does anyone have an idea why this is happenning?

Thanks for the quick reply Gary. I was wondering why this corruption happenned recently, when I have used this workflow previously without any artifacts for several years. Do you think that something has gotten corrupted in DVDSP?
Do you also recommend using Compressor always to created the files for DVDSP vs. having DVDSP do the encoding?
    Thanks

  • Import and Export sections of material present in the Timeline

    Hi,
I know it is possible with Premiere EL 11 to import and export titles.
I have an existing movie and am working on a new one. I wish to utilize part of what I created on the previous movie. Is it possible to copy part of the old movie and paste it into my new project being a different file? If yes, how to?
If not, then I start understanding why they sell EL for.
    Thank you

If you wish to move the elements in the Timeline, separate, then you will need a ClipBoard Extender app., like ClipMate, to Copy the desired Clips, Titles, etc., then Open a different Project move the CTI (Current Time Indicator) to the desired location, and Paste. You cannot do that, without a Clipboard Extender.
If you are using the WAB (Work Area Bar) to Export/Share a portion of the Timeline, you will NOT get the separate elements, i.e. Clips, Titles, etc., but an AV file, with those written to the new, output file. Editing that output file will be tougher, as the elements are now all combined, and all Handles in Clips, etc., will not be included. If one goes that route, then MPEG would not be my choice, and I would go with one of the suggestions in this article: http://forums.adobe.com/message/4556586#4556586
Remember, with that output method, the Clips (Audio & Video) will NOT have any Handles, and Titles will be burned in.
From your comments, I think that you want the ClipMate (or similar) workflow.
    Good luck,

  • Export sections of timeline...

    Hello,
Is there a way to export specific sections of a timeline?   For eg.,  with a 1 hr movie, I would like to export different sections or clips, to an avi file (unless there is a better suggested file type)  to use in other video timelines.
I tried selecting the section with the rendering perimeters, but it exported the entire timeline..
    Thanks,

P.S.  Is there a  best file choice to do this, or is .avi as good as any??
First, the question must be asked, "what do I need to do with the output file?"
That answer will likely dictate the choice of format/CODEC.
Though written for PrPro (more choices, and some other differences), this article will give you some tips on making the choices: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/878590?tstart=0
Good luck, and hope that helps.

  • "Program error" When I click on the timeline/motion controls or try to export/save as my animation. PS CC late 2014

I have been working on an animation for an online ad. The file is 300 by 250. It's about 24 seconds long. I had completed and saved my work as a GIF file. I also saved some static JPGs of the animation. Everything was still working at this point. Then I closed Photoshop and reopened the PSD file to export it to a different format, but when I clicked on the time-marker in the timeline window or tried to edit my animation, I got this error message: "could not complete your request because of a program error." Watch the following video to see exactly what happens:
I'm running Adobe Photoshop CC November 2014. I'm working on a PSD file, 24 seconds long, 30 fps.
I looked in my library/preferances/adobe folder for photoshop's error log file. This is the error in that file:
    2014:11:12 18:30:17 : /Volumes/workarea/PS_15_Mac_Daily_Retail/20140730.r.148/photoshop/main/photoshop/sources/ ULinkManager.cpp : 1380 : REQUIRE failed
Thank you so much for reading this. It sucks to work so long on an ad and then have this happen for seemingly no reason. Please help if you can.

Looks like issues with some linked smart objects... You could try and copy/ move the whole shebang to another location in the hopes that it either fixes the issue or PS completely forgets the linked files completely so you might relink/ replace them.
