Exporting selected portions in Adobe Illustrator Creative Cloud

I recently upgrade from CS3 to now using just Illustrator Creative Cloud version. In CS3 I could use the crop mark tool and select what I want to export as a jpeg, but when I approach the same scenario in the CC Ai it exports anything and everything in the file. How do I just export selected portions of a file?

You may adapt the Artboard to fit what you want to include, one option being to select the Artboard Tool and Fit to Artwork.

Illustrator Creative Cloud keeps freezing when I close a window

My company recently upgraded to Adobe Creative Cloud. Every time I close a window in illustrator the wheel comes up and freezes Illustrator for about 30 seconds. When I primarily work in Illustrator all day every day, this is an extremely long time. I cannot even look at another window open within that program (as I usually have a few open at a time). My co-workers who upgraded at the same time do not have this problem. My computer was upgraded to 12 GB 1067 MHz DDR3 memory and has a 3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor. I sincerely appreciate any help.

Language selection is disabled (greyed out) - Creative Cloud Desktop app

Like the picture below shows, the language selection in the Creative Cloud Desktop app is disabled. (as well as everything else in the Apps tab)
I would like to change the language to English, but how?

Welcome to Adobe Forum,
It will depend on your operating system. Windows users have reported the need to remove and reinstall the application for the langauge to switch.
Macintosh users have mostly reported the same behavior with the language changing without the need to reinstall.

I think, this question is a very good one.
If I have a *.indb document created in CS6, populated with InDesign documents from CS6, what to do, if I want to migrate my workflow to the latest version of InDesign CC-2014?
Short answer (avoiding trouble and headaches):
1. Convert all your InDesign documents from CS6 to CC-2014 (*)
2. Use NEW document file names for all your CC-2014 InDesign file types: *indd, *indt, *indl
3. Build your *indb documents for CC-2014 anew.
4. Use NEW document file names for CC-2014 InDesign file type: *indb
But isn't that a tedious task to do?

Installing Illustrator Creative Cloud

If I get the new Illustrator Creative Cloud will I still be able to open all the Illustraior files I've been making over the last several years, and work on them? Is there the same compatibility I got when I ever upgraded in the past?

I presume we are still talking CS3.
But in any case, you may try the list, and hope for one of the easy ones at the top (5) seems irrelevant in this case).
The following is a general list of things you may try when the issue is not in a specific file, and when it is not caused by issues with opening a file from external media. You may have tried/done some of them already; 1) and 2) are the easy ones for temporary strangenesses, and 3) and 4) are specifically aimed at possibly corrupt preferences); 5) is a list in itself, and 6) is the last resort.
If possible/applicable, you should save current artwork first, of course.
1) Close down Illy and open again;
2) Restart the computer (you may do that up to at least 5 times);
3) Close down Illy and press Ctrl+Alt+Shift/Cmd+Option+Shift during startup (easy but irreversible);
4) Move the folder (follow the link with that name) with Illy closed (more tedious but also more thorough and reversible), for CS3 - CC you may find the folder here:

5) Look through and try out the relevant among the Other options (follow the link with that name, Item 7) is a list of usual suspects among other applications that may disturb and confuse Illy, Item 15) applies to CC, CS6, and maybe CS5);

6) Uninstall (ticking the box to delete the preferences), run the Cleaner Tool (if you have CS3/CS4/CS5/CS6/CC), and reinstall.

Can I export InDesign files to Adobe Illustrator for editing? I am not familiar with InDesign, but I am familiar with Illustrator. I have CS6. Hope someone can help. I have a large Orientation Booklet that needs updating and do not have the time to get tutored in InDesign.

The closest you’ll get is a PDF and Illustrator is not a general purpose PDF editor.

Is Adobe forcing Creative Cloud on us now?? I cannot find anyplace on website to just update my programs!!! I just want to update PS, Lightroom, etc. to the latest version and don't want to go the Creative Cloud route. The reviews on CC on the internet are not very good!

Illustrator Creative Cloud vs Illustrator CS6.

It was my understanding that Ilustrator Creative Cloud and Illustrator CS 6 were compatible. I received an Illustrator file created in the Creative Cloud version. I have CS6. I get a message that the file was created in a newer version. I'm having trouble editing it. Any suggestions.

You'll need to use the Creative CLoud app. Here's how to select the version:

The article covers an older version, but you need to install the newer one.
You might also need to update the CC app. Depends on when you last did that.
You can have more than one version installed side by side and also use them.

Step 3: Insert CS5 disc and copy its contents to the desktop.
Step 4: Go To “Desktop\<<CS5 Folder Name>>\payloads\” and then Go To each folder that starts from “Microsoft_VC80” and install them one by one.
Step 5: Right click on the setup.exe and "Run as Administrator"

When I downloaded adobe, Skype, creative cloud, they all get seen as external devices. I can see them under finder, external devices as a list. Is this ok or incorrect?

I have Mac Book Pro.
I did a clean install of Yosemite.
Now when I download adobe flash player, Skype and other applications they are seen in the devices section of finder window. ( with a hard disk icon to their left)
Please can someone advise if this is fine ?
I would be downloading many applications, will they all sit under devices section ?

Ok, I even found the Export tab -> Manage modules, and I see the Photoshop.com module. (Which kind of helps? Kind of.... But is that a separate storage area from my Creative Cloud drive? I believe it is seperate, yes?) I tried to drag Creative Cloud link into the Manage modules, and that didn't work. So, is there no Creative Cloud Export Module in Bridge?
That just doesn't make any sense to me that there is not seamless interconnectivity between a storage drive and an application that is intended to map and "bridge" all of your stored data for easier project integration.

Upgrade from Illustrator Creative cloud V6 to CC

Hi we recently upgraded our creative cloud software from V6 to CC, since doing this our printer has refused to print grey scales. We have had an engineer in and he say the printer / copier is fine, and ran a number of grey scale tests to prove it.

Thanks for the replies Jacob and Monika. I am yet to reset the preferences, i thought at first i would dig deeper as Monika suggested. So below are further findings...
I have a test document setup, with a range of blacks from 10% through to 100% layed on white and also Black. I have a document like this setup for the following applications Adobe Indesign, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, Microsoft Word and also a pdf generated from the Indesign document to open in Adobe Acrobat and Apple Preview.
The range of Blacks print fine from Adobe Photoshop, Microsoft Word and the pdf from both Acrobat and Apple Preview.
However when printing from Adobe Indesign and Adobe Illustrator the range prints from 10-70% then the 80 & 90% print as 100% Black (See photo)
I am currently running with the following equipment and believe that all the drivers and the software are up to date.27"
Apple iMac 27" with Mac OS x 10.7.5
to a Printer Ricoh MPC 3001
with the late Creative Cloud software suit.
Any further thoughts would be very much appreciated.

Exporting to PNG from Adobe Illustrator cutting off edges

I created a 40px x 40px image in Adobe Illustrator CS4. I saved as an .ai file and then tried to export as a PNG.
Adobe Illustrator automatically crops the background and tightens the export to a rect around all the objects which if fine. In this case, I am not working edge to edge so my image is not quite 40px wide.
But, unfortunately, Illustrator is not exporting the entire image. I end up with an image that is 34px wide. Indeed, the icon I draw starts on the left hand side but the right edge of my object cut off.
Any ideas why this is happening? I can't imagine Illustrator CS4 can't correctly to export to PNG.

Can't necessarily explain the reason for the cutoff without knowing more, but you might be able to solve it by adding a 40 x 40 square with no fill or stroke and including it in the export.
