Exporting self contein movie for authoring

I need to make a selfcontain movie for DVD authoring house. Shell I export uncompressed or DV NTSC compression is good enough. Is there a noticable difference or there is no difference and I will be wasting my time and space on the hard disc using "non" compression?
Thanks.

Joni,
Are you sure there is no loss? The reason I ask is that I have done that and then brought it into After Effects and can see artifacts from the compression that takes place. Also, the file sizes are so much smaller than if you use Quicktime conversion. I have used self contain for many projects and it seems to work fine. I'm no expert but I believe some compression must be taking place.
Thanks,
Ymir

  • Nightmares exporting 16:9 movie for iDVD

I keep running into the same problem at the end of my projects. I'm editing in PAL 16:9 in FCE, and everything looks great on screen. I want to export the movie into iDVD. If I use the standard Export-> Quicktime option it keeps ending up in 3:4. This seems to happen with every export I do no matter what options I choose!
I've managed to export it into a DV file win 16:9 format, and it plays in widescreen in QTPro and in funder preview, and this has worked in iDVD, but it doesn't import the chapter markers, which I really want to have. (I am using 16:9 iDVD templates and have checked the project is in 16:9).
I've spent hours today trying to get the movie to export right and work in iDVD and can't get a perfect solution. Can anyone give me the right settings once and for all?!?!
    Thanks

  • Export mpeg-2 movie for Internet streaming

I have QuickTime Pro 7 with the mpeg-2 playback component. My source files are in a DVD movie. I am able to play the DVD fine in Windows Media player and Real Media Player, but Quicktime is able to play only the video and there is no audio output. My objective is to convert the DVD mpeg-2 muxed videos to quicktime .mov files that are prepared for progressive playback (web streaming: fast start).
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

get mpeg stream clip to do the video conversion to .mov

  • Exporting 25 Minute Movie for Web

I have a 25 minute project that is going to be posted on a website. What is the best way to export this and keep the quality?

Depends on the footage and other factors, and also a trade off of size/quality, but the web presets in Compressor are a good place to start
Take the timeline and send to Compressor.
A bit more detail on the project and how you want to use it on the website could also help.

  • Fcp 7 not exporting self contained

Hi, help me out. Fcp 7 is exporting reference movie which doesnt play on other systems. I need to create a self contained movie for distribution. But neither quicktime conversion  nor checking 'make self contained' is helping out. I'm doubtful whether there r some special system settings to be checked or some export setting need to altered. Or a program error?

Please post your question on the Final Cut Studio forum.

  • FCP export to "QuickTime Movie" distorts aspect ratio of all text, displays video correctly.

    Hi you all,
My name is Alexander, I'm from Belgium.
I'm working on Final Cut Pro 6.0.6, on a MacBook Pro with a 2.53 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Processor, running version 10.7.2 of Mac OS X (Lion).
I'm editing a 'making of' of a Flemish feature film. I shot this 35 minute documentary short with my own Canon HDV-camcorder (XH-A1). The Final Cut Pro-project is stored on an external hard drive (1 TB LaCie Minimus).
I've been doing exports to "QuickTime Movie" for years now, without any problems, but since a week or two, FCP started messing up the titles over the video - and the titles only. Their aspect ratio is messed up once exported, but they look just fine in the FCP Timeline (in Viewer, I can verify that the aspect ratio of the titles is always "0"). I'm trying to export this to "HDV - 720p25".
Here's a comparison between the two:
As you can see: the MOV has the titles' aspect ratio all weird, the upper one partly covering the lower one. All titles and text in the docu come out like this, but the video (and audio) is exported correctly.
Any ideas on how to solve this very annoying problem?
    Many thanks!!
    Alexander

    Hi Studio X,
Thank you for your quick reply.
The producers of the film want to upload this making of-documentary on YouTube. Therefore, I need to give them a high-quality-mov with the least possible Megabites. My film has a 35 minute running time.
So I figured: Let's start with the 'smallest' high-quality FCP-export to begin with (HDV-720p25), and throw that one in Compressor, in order to end up with a 'small' but good looking H.264-MOV for YouTube.
But for some reason, those "HDV-720p25"-exports mess up the titles. And I can't figure out why.

  • COMPRESSOR OR EXPORTING SELF CONTAINED?

I just want to find out what is the right thing to do in FCP 7.  I need a project to be converted to MPG-4. Should I send the fibished project from timeline to compressor directly? or should I need to export self contained movie first and then send it to compressor? Which would work better in terms of quality.
    Thanks

Quality-wise, I've never found a difference, although I've heard some say that if you send an unrendered Sequence to Compressor, Compressor will do a better job of rendering than FCP.  Personally, I prefer to export a self-contained movie from FCP then use the resulting file in Compressor.  That allows me to continue using FCP while Compressor does its thing ... something you cannot do if sending directly to Compressor.

Try Mixing Down the audio before export.

  • Self-contained movie asking for source files

I have exported a final cut pro movie as a self-contained file, and after I deleted the source files, as my harddrive was jammed full, I am unable to burn the project onto a dvd. The file won't open in quicktime or final cut pro. It keeps asking for a source file to continue - HELP! It was a two hour movie that I am to be burning for XMas, and it has slipped out of my computer apparently. It was opening on its own without my harddrive connected before I deleted the source files, so I KNOW it was self-contained which is the only reason I deleted the files in the first place! Thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

This is not a new problem. I have encountered it through many versions of QuickTime.
Typically, it happens after I assemble a compilation of clips from various sources, including imported Windows Media files. I diligently check the "Save as a self-contained movie" option, which always indicates a file size larger than the "Save as reference movie" option -- for example, 1.7 MB vs. only 9.2 KB for a short clip. And yet, if I have discarded the original clip, QuickTime is unable to play some of the supposedly self-contained movies because it can't find the deleted source files. It's kind of maddening, especially when there's no way to recover the original clips.
I haven't tracked this, but I suspect it might happen when a clip in one format is pasted into a movie without first converting it to QuickTime. Has anyone else noticed this possibility and tested it?

  • Export mpeg2 as a self contained movie

I received a digital photo frame for father's day. It plays video in the mpeg2 format and includes speakers. When I export from Final Cut Pro using Compresor, it separates the audio file from the video. When I play the mpeg2 on the frame I only get video.
How can I make the mpeg2 a self contained movie that includes audio?

    It's a Digital Spectrum MF-1040 plus
    http://www.dsicentral.com/products/mf-1040/Default.html
The specs list mpeg 1,2 & 4. but when I called the company, the technician told me to use mpeg2 or .avi
My daughter can take a card out of a point and shoot still camera with video capability and it plays without a problem including sound.

  • Non-self-contained movie huge & takes a very very long time to export

    This is for FCE 4.
I have a 1.5 hour movie, and when I export it to quicktime (Not quicktime conversion) it takes WAY too long.
I have "make self-contained movie" unchecked, so I thought creating a reference movie would be very quick. Why is it taking so long and why is the resulting file huge?
My source files is DV, and only minor editing and effects were used. However the entire movie was cropped & resized. Is that why?

Ah I think I figured it out.
I did another test project with the same source DV file, but didn't do ANY editing to it.
It took 2 minutes to export a 70mb reference mov file from a 7 minute DV sequence.
Then I cropped & resized the sequence by changing parameters in the "motion" tab.
Then it took 20 minutes to export a much larger reference mov file from the same 7 minute DV sequence.
Then I clicked "render all" after selecting every render option in the drop-down menu.
Then it took less than 1 minute to export a 70mb reference mov file from the same 7 minute DV sequence.
So I guess I was having problems because I didn't render "everything", because I didn't select "FULL" on the drop-down menu for rendering. I thought only RED segments in the timeline needs to be rendered prior to export, but apparently the "FULL" render must be selected as well so that the entire timeline is nice and purple. (or some shade of blue)
Also, a cropped and resized video is very large in size (GB) if it is exported as a reference file only without prior rendering. * Can someone else confirm that this is the normal behavior in FCE? *
Oh well, lesson learned.. This movie is going to take a very long time to export, and result in a very large file. But I can't use it without cropping & resizing it!

  • Ready to export the movie for dvd

So we are finally done the Mountain bike film we have been working, and bike magazean wants in in a few days. What is our best option for export? I usually use compressor to export? , Should i use it? Every thing was filmed on a dvx100 at 24p
Also, i want to put chapters in, so you can go to the different riders sections. How do i do this?
    Thanks guys
    Syd

I found the most reliable way to get chapter markers from FCP into DVD SP was to create the markers in the timeline, and export... via compressor
I found the other routes lost the markers at one stage or another.
The only downside is its slower for a 2 pass encode that way, but does not require any extra HD space.
For the self contained vs. reference debate, I think the issue is that the render cache sometimes goes all funny, and associates the wrong renders in the timeline - another way to fix that is to clear the render cache before exporting a reference movie, or before exporting via compressor.
Again, it slows things down, but not as much as having to go back and do it twice anyway.....

  • Export several self contained movies via "Automator"?

    Hi,
If we have, say a 30 minute FCPro 7 sequence open, I want to chapter mark about 30 portions of the time line with Chapter markers.  Everything works perfectly, even iDVD recognizes them.
NOW . . . I'd like to export each "clip" - they're about 1 minute each - as a self contained movie.  Easy - but very work intensive having an in and out point and exporting.  But it works well.
Is there a way using Automator to somehow tell it to take each chapter marker (30 of them) and export every section so I don't have to each one manually via in and out points?
Anyone know any secrets as to how this might work?
    Thanks,
    Larry

Forget Automator. Not even AppleScript works with FCP.
Can Batch Export be convinced to do this for you? What happnes if you take that sequence with the markers and drop it into a Browser? Can the markers then be used to create clips? If so, tey might be able to addressed by Batch Export.
Sorry, got no idea if it's possible.
