Exporting slideshow results in unwanted music fade

Hi all, I sure hope someone can help. When I create a slideshow in iPhoto '09 and set music to it, it plays back great. But when I export the slideshow, using any method (specifically to .m4v or .mov), the music fades by the end of the slideshow. It's disconcerting, because that's not how it plays back in iPhoto. It's also troublesome because it's not what I want! It's not even a normal fade over the last few seconds - it starts early and goes very slowly, lasting the final 30-60 seconds. Bizarre. Anyway, I need to get rid of it. I've searched every option to no avail, in both iPhoto and iTunes (where I'm pulling my music from). Please help - I have a project due on Thursday that I've got to fix this for!
I am aware I can export the slideshow with no sound, import to iMovie and add my music there. I'm prepared for that contingency, but I'd rather not if I don't have to. Does anyone have an answer for me? Is there an option I'm missing somewhere, or any other way of getting rid of this unwanted fade? Thanks in advance for any help.

Stewy and others, after much experimenting, I figured out the problem: when you have your slideshow set to "Fit Slideshow to Music", it fades the music slowly and early. If you have your slideshow set to play a certain amount of seconds per slide, the music plays fine. Note that the music plays fine both ways in iPhoto itself, which is why it was so tricky to track this down, but when you export your slideshow, "Fit Slideshow to Music" = bad. I don't consider adding a black slide to the end to be a satisfactory solution; it still throws all the timing off. The only real solution (that I could find) is to consider the "Fit Slideshow" feature to be broken (which it is - I hope Apple is reading this), and not use it. Instead, just manually fit the slideshow yourself. It's a pain and it takes a few minutes, but the resulting export is worth it.
Apple - this is definitely a bug. It's also worth noting that it only happened AFTER I updated a freshly installed iPhoto '09 to the latest update, so it was a bug introduced in an update. Straight out of the box, this doesn't happen (though there are other worse bugs that are fixed by the update, so it's still worth updating and handling this particular bug manually). I sure hope this bug is fixed soon, though, because the "Fit Slideshow" feature is very useful, and having to do it manually *****.
Hope this helps others out there - I searched Google quite a bit before giving up and posting here.

When I export slideshows the result is a file with only the first picture then a blank white screen with music. Apple bug or am I missing the obvious?

Usually when the phone shows just the white Apple logo, it indicates an issue with the system software that prevents the phone from finishing it's boot sequence. When this happens, you will need to restore the phone, which removes all data and replaces the system software with a fresh set.
Since the phone is not seen in iTunes when it's in this state, you will have to put it into DFU mode for iTunes to see it.
To put the phone in DFU mode:
    - make sure the phone is connected to a computer with the current version of iTunes on it.
    - hold the sleep/wake button and the home button simultaneously for 8 seconds.
    - let go of the sleep/wake button and continue pressing the home button. The iTunes screen will show a short progress bar then show a dialog box stating that an iPod was detected that is in recovery mode.
    -click OK
-click the Restore button in the middle of the iTunes page
After the restore the phone should be back up and running and you can sync your data back.

  • Exported slideshow to Quicktime, music now out of sync

Hello: I created a slideshow in iPhoto with music and transitions in sync, then exported it to Quicktime. When I play it in Quicktime, the music track is slightly out of sync with the slides. Can anyone give me any suggestions? Thanks!

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. I think that problem was fixed with 10.4.8 and the newest Quicktime version. Download and use the 10.4.8 COMBO updater as opposed the the Software Update method. I'd do the same with the Quicktime version. QT 7.1.3 is required if you need to access videos from the iTMS. Otherwise QuickTime 7.1.2 for Mac will suffice. It depends on your iTunes situation.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.

  • Why no music when I export slideshow?

I created a slideshow in iPhoto accompanied by music which was downloaded from a friend's disk of noncommercial recordings. The music is in MP3 format.  When I export to Quicktime Movie, no music!  Why not?  Any solutions available?

Yes, I have several projects I have done, but I do remember in the last one I did about 6 months ago I thought I had to run through the process of sending it to iDVD twice for it to work.  Don't know why.
Yes, the volume is up on the movies it made and still no sound throughout the whole movie.
As far as creating short test movies, how do you just select part of the project to make a video as I have never done that?
Is there some option or something that I have to select that makes it include the audio when exporting or might there be something I did in error that causes it to mute or ignore the audio when exporting?

  • No Music in exported slideshow

I have read all the threads in this forum but have yet to see a solution to this problem.
I created simple slideshow, created a non-DRM playlist with one song in iTunes and attached the music track to the slideshow. It plays fine within iPhoto but when I export it, i get no audio. I have tried several export types but they all do the same thing. Any help would be appreciated.

Having same problem - no music in exported slideshow, even though it plays fine when watching in iPhoto. There are no issues with name or path of the song used, so I don't think that is the problem.
I have 44 slides in my slideshow, using the classic theme, and many of the slides have different length. When I test what I'm doing with a simple 3 slide slideshow using the same music, the export works fine, but just can't get it to work no matter what I do with the full, 44 slide slideshow. It is extremely frustrating as I have done this successfully before. Any suggestions?

  • Iphoto slideshow music fade

in iphoto, can you create a custom playlist for a slideshow where you make the music fade vs end and start?

No.  You would have to create a special audio file containing all of tracks you want with the fade in and out at the beginning and end.  There are audio editors that can do that.  Go to MacUpDate.com and search for "audio edit" to get a list of potential applications.  I use Amadeus Pro which works well for me.

  • IPhoto 6 Won't Export Slideshow Audio to QuickTime

When "exporting" iPhoto 6 albums to Quicktime the audio selected in iTunes does not export with the selected Album photos. iPhoto "Help" says that iTunes' music selected for the slideshow also will export as the Album's "selected" music. But the slideshow music selection will not export to QuickTime with the iPhoto 6 photo album. Has anyone solved this problem? Thank you very much for any suggestions you may have!

My situation is a bit different. I can not seem to export a "slideshow" without getting that awful sample music.
The process is File>Export>QuickTime. No Make Slideshow and then export.
From the Help files I am supposed to create a slideshow and then select music from iTunes in the SlideShow settings menu. Of course, I've now got a slide show with a huge filesize I didn't want. Delete isn't that big of a step. So now it is back to File>Export>QuickTime and check the box to add selected music.
Of course, there is no way to know if the music has been identified and included in the export. Just trust, I guess. OK, make the export happen.
Now, open the QuickTime movie file I just created. Once again, that awful sample music has been included. I've done this so many times with the same result.
Work around is to export the images as a QuickTime movie with no music. Then open the QuickTime move and add music.
Any idea as to why Apple put that stupid music checkbox in the File>Export menu if it only grabs the awful sample music?

  • Where is the best place to make a slideshow with pictures and music on a mac?

Where is the best place to make a slideshow with pictures and music on Macbook Pro?

There are many ways to produce slide shows using iPhoto, iMovie or iDVD and some limit the number of photos you can use (iDVD has a 99 chapter (slide) limitation).
If what you want is what I want, namely to be able to use high resolution photos (even 300 dpi tiff files), to pan and zoom individual photos, use a variety of transitions, to add and edit music or commentary, place text exactly where you want it, and to end up with a DVD that looks good on both your Mac and a TV - in other words end up with and end result that does not look like an old fashioned slide show from a projector - you may be interested in how I do it. You don't have to do it my way, but the following may be food for thought!
Firstly you need proper software to assemble the photos, decide on the duration of each, the transitions you want to use, and how to pan and zoom individual photos where required, and add proper titles. For this I use Photo to Movie. You can read about what it can do on their website:
    http://www.lqgraphics.com/software/phototomovie.php
(Other users here use the alternative FotoMagico:  http://www.boinx.com/fotomagico/homevspro/ which you may prefer - I have no experience with it.)
Neither of these are freeware, but are worth the investment if you are going to do a lot of slide shows. Read about them in detail, then decide which one you feel is best suited to your needs.
Once you have timed and arranged and manipulated the photos to your liking in Photo to Movie, it exports the file to iMovie  as a DV stream. You can add music in Photo to Movie, but I prefer doing this in iMovie where it is easier to edit. You can now further edit the slide show in iMovie just as you would a movie, including adding other video clips, then send it to iDVD 7, or Toast,  for burning.
You will be pleasantly surprised at how professional the results can be!
To simply create a slide show in iDVD 7 onwards from images in iPhoto or stored in other places on your hard disk or a connected server, look here:

  • No Audio In Exported Slideshow

    Hey,
So, I decided to use iPhoto for the very first time on my Mac to make a slideshow for my girlfriend. I used the scrapbook theme and picked a song from my iTunes library. In the settings, I checked the box for "fit slideshow to music". It worked PERFECTLY in the preview in iPhoto but when I export it (multiple times with different parameters), there is no audio. The video looks great however. After using different file types and sizes for export with no result, I gave up on iPhoto. I thought for sure that if I brought the slideshow into iMovie and then added the song there, that it would work. I was wrong. It seems that no matter what I do, my MacBook will not let me create any kind of video with audio in it. I have looked around the forum and the internet extensively. This has happened to A LOT of people, but there is no solution. One poster said he/she thought it started to happen after they installed 8.0.4. HELP.

I've had the same issue. I have an iPhoto slideshow that contains video & music that previews fine, but when I export it one of the three songs simply isn't there. The audio that is attached to the video tracks is still there, and the other songs that come after it still play in the correct spot, that one song is simply missing. All three tracks are formatted exactly the same (they are part of the same album) and were purchased from the Amazon music store (which means mp3 @ a VBR around 256 kbps and no DRM). There are videos that contain audio before and after where this song should be.
I'm currently testing to see if converting the tracks to AAC solves the problem.

  • How can I export slideshows created in Aperture v3.3.2 from Mid-2009 MacBook Pro-17 to blank DVDs?

(Fifth futile attempt in two hours, before I learned there was a Post webpage – I’m new to ApSuppCom - and after I learned that I am not allowed to update previous content, so I had to back out, make a few changes, and start over.)  How can I export slideshows created in Aperture v3.3.2 (complete with superimposed captions and music tracks) from Mid-2009 MacBook Pro-17 to blank DVDs ?  (Some other specs: Mac OS Lion 10.7.5; Capacity 499.5 GB;  Processor 2.8 GHz Intel Core  2 Duo; Memory 4GB 1067 MHz DDR3; Graphics NVIDIA GeForce 9400M 256MB)
I cannot do a copy (export) without various error messages appearing and the inevitable stoppage occurring.  Always with the DVD Video Player final message reading, “Supported disc not available.” Advisors and Mac Geniuses at local Apple Stores have told me to try Roxio Toast.  When I visited the Roxio website, and found numerous other company products, the descriptions all seemed to suggest that most of the apps shown can easily export videos to DVDs, but nothing was said about finished digital slide shows being exported.  At future events soon,  I hope to be handing out these finished DVDs (free) to the people in them.   Any help will be greatly appreciated. How can I export slideshows created in Aperture v3.3.2 (complete with superimposed captions and music tracks) from Mid-2009 MacBook Pro-17 to blank DVDs ?
Aperture cannot burn slideshows to a DVD.  It only can export a video of your slideshow.
In Aperture 3 you use the "Export" button in Aperture's slideshow project to render a video to a folder on your disk.
Then you use iDVD or another program to burn a video DVD.
I cannot do a copy (export) without various error messages appearing and the inevitable stoppage occurring.  Always with the DVD Video Player final message reading, “Supported disc not available.”
Could you please describe the exact steps that are causing these error messages?
How are you exporting your slideshow from Aperture? Which settings are you using? And how are you importing the video to iDVD or Toast to burn a video DVD?

  • Exporting Slideshows in Different Formats

Ok everyone, I'm having a few problems. I just recently ugraded to iPhoto 5.0.4 and everything is fine and dandy, but I'm wondering if there's any way that I can export slideshows that I create in different formats. Let me explain my situation; I'm a high school student in an Advanced Biology class, and our class has it's own website for the projects we do. My teacher has asked me to try to figure out a way to create slideshows with all the pictures we have for the different projects, then save/export them in a format that we can post on a web page. A friend of mine recommended that we make a page with links so that people could select their connection speed and format that they would like to download the file in, for example QuickTime, Real Player, Windows Media, Flash, etc... I've figured out how to export the files in QuickTime and Real Player compatible formats, but that's it. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thank you.
    Jarrett

    Criag:
Yes, iPhoto doesn't support the 16:9 format for exporting. I suggest you useiMovie HD 6. It's still available to Mac users who have iLife 08 and are not pleased with the new iMovie which has been dumbed down from the V6 version. If you add the 16:9 photos to it you can export to that ratio. Also you'll have much more control over the audio trachs being able to cut out portions, fad in and out, overlap etc.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • Why do iPhoto export slideshows have missing photos

    Hello Everyone
I am trying to export slideshows so I can burn to DVD later using iDVD.  But as i review my exported sideshow as a .mov file, it appears to have left out photos and is incomplete, it plays out the full music tracks but it simply is a white screen.  Very dissapointing after waiting so long for the export to complete.  This has occurred a few times.
    Please Help
    thanks

    1 - iPHoto is supported
2 - iPhoto can export slideshows
3 - if you want help you need to actually provide information - like what does happen - what error messages - anything else - simply saying "it does not work is not enough to have anyone help you solve your specific problem

  • Problem exporting slideshow

I hope someone can help me, I am new to MAC. I have just created my first slideshow in iPhoto (88 slides-3 songs). When I preview the slideshow in iPhotos the slides and photos are in perfect sync. I then export the slideshow to iDVD as I have read is required to burn it to DVD. I have found that for some reason during the exporting process, the slides and music have moved out of sync (the slides finish, but the music is still going - about 5-10 secs out). Any suggestions on what I may be doing wrong, or what the problem may be. Thanks in advance.

    Julie:
That seems to be a "bug" in V5 that has bitten a lot of people. My suggestion is to create the slideshow without music and then export to Quicktime. Import that file into iMovie where you can add the audio tracks more precisely and then send to iDVD from there.
If you're not using any Ken Burns effects you might consider building the slideshow from within iDVD from the stills. You can add transitions there and create a playlist in iTunes to play with the slideshow. I find that I get a better final product if I do it that way. Since I don't use the KB effect it works best for me. Good luck.

  • LR3 not exporting slideshow audio to pdf

Up until yesterday when I exported a slideshow to a pdf file, the audio went along and played when you opened the file in either Adobe Acrobat or Adobe Acrobat Reader. Now when I export the same slideshow to a pdf file after making a slide chsnge everything is great except there is no audio. If I export the same slideshow to a mp4 video file it works fine. Does anyone have a suggestion on how to correct the problem?

    Dorin, Thanks for your reply.
I know what you are saying was defintely the case with LR2 but I have several cases where I developed a slideshow in LR3, added music, then exported it as a pdf and the music went along. In fact after I received your response I went back and opened a LR3 sldeshow with music that I made within the last week and it opened and played okay. Yes I also researched all the literature and tutorials about exporting LR slideshows to a pdf and you are absolutely right. Prior to LR3 I added music to a LR slideshow using Adobe Acrobat by using the method described by
Matt Kloskowski in a tutorial on Adobe Photoshop Lightroom Killer Tips.
    Thanks again for your reply

  • Export Slideshow takes hours

Is there any reason why when I export a slideshow it takes forever? I waited about two hours for one, and it was only a third of the way through.

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
    Let's see:
    What processor
How much Ram on your machine?
How big is the HD? How much free space on it?
How many photos in the slideshow?
How big are the photos - pixel dimensions and file size?
    WHat template are you using?
    What export setting?
    Is there music?
There are some of the variables.
