Exporting Slideshows with Aperture

I am a professional wedding photographer just starting to use Aperture.
I currently deliver DVD slideshows to my clients instead of paper proofs. I use an action and an apple script in Photoshop to batch all the files from a wedding to have a black border around them and display the file name in the black border below the file. I must have the file name because, that is how my clients place there order. I then use DVD Studio Pro to group my slides into groups of 99 and create slideshows with DVD Studio Pro.
Is there a way to use Aperture to automate this process? I would like to select the images that I want, have Aperture size them for NTSC, display the file name so that it is readable and not cropped out of a standard TV screen, and then create slideshows in iDVD or DVD Studio Pro for me. I would also like to put a signature on the bottom right corner of each photograph.
I know this is asking a lot, but I REALLY need something like this to speed up my process and bring a new look to my work. Any suggestions?

kevin:
aperture has automator actions for exporting images from albums (at any one of the export preset sizes). you could, with a little scripting expertise, convert the photoshop applescript that you have now into an autmator action. (i have several automator actions that i've built that feed images into photoshop.) then it would be a matter of building an automator workflow that sets everything up in the right sequence and pressing run.
if you need help getting this done, visit my web site and on the "about me" page, you'll find some contact info (including email address).

  • Export Slideshow with previews only

    Hi,
I use a managed library on my iMac. I'd like to take a slideshow with me on my MacBookPro. Is there a way to export a slideshow as a new library with just the previews in it? I don't need these huge RAWs (export via my WLAN takes hours) on my laptop just for presenting a slideshow.
    Thanks for a tip!

    Thanks for the tipps.
I personally am no fan of QT presentations, because I'd like to pause every now and then during my slideshows, and I like to zoom in any picture when necessary.
The iPhoto tip sounds good - but I am not sure I did get it right. I make an album in Aperture, OK. But then? I can access these pics in iPhoto, but there I can only run a slideshow with selected Pics and have not the nice settings I have for slideshows in Aperture. And, how do I get the pics from iPhoto to my MacBookPro from there? Here I have to export again as QT, right?
What I am trying to achieve is to have my slideshow with just the necessary picture size on my MBP. What I did yesterday, was export all pics from Aperture on my iMac by dragging them on the desktop of my MBP, then importing them in Aperture there and creating a new slideshow there. But, unfortunately, all my sorting was lost, the pics were imported by the order of their names, of course. So this is no nice workaround either.
Does anyone of you have anothe idea for me?
    Thanks a lot,
    Jens

  • Export slideshow with music

How do I export a slideshow with a theme and music to be watched by a friend on his/her mac or pc?
I just created a nice slideshow with around 10 pictures with a theme and a song from my itunes-library.
The exported file got the *.M4V fileformat and I wonder if the file will be viewable on my friends mashine?
If not, how do i configure the export to make it usefull for others?

The output from iPhoto is fixed. If your friend cannot play that then there are various oconverters that will change the file, depending on his requirement.

  • Problems exporting slideshow with music from iPhoto 5 to iDVD

I made a slideshow on iPhoto, and selected one Playlist with 4 tracks as backgroundmusic. When I ¨play¨the slideshow in ¨iPhoto¨ I can listen the music ( all 4 tracks), but when I ¨export¨ the slideshow or ¨send to iDVD¨, the final Quicktime movie contains all the fotos but only the first track of the Playlist.
    I use Quicktime 7.1.3, iPhoto 5.0.4 and iTunes 7.0.2
Can somebody help me to find a solution...:)...? thanks...
    iMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

this was a known problem with iPhoto 5. do you have the latest update to iPhoto 5?
Only one song exporting with Slideshows
With iPhoto 5 this seems to be a know problem/bug. There have been some work-arounds. Don't know if the problem is with iPhoto, Quicktime or a combo of both.
-From Bob Worthington: re-ripping the cuts I wanted as background music for the DVD as a single cut in iTunes. I then made a playlist containing the one extended cut of music.
-Old Toad: share to Quicktime from iPhoto and then import the resulting movie into iMovie you can extract and delete the audio from the video and add the two songs to the video and save.
Quicktime Pro-open the movie and bring up the Movie Properties menu window. In the top window select the audio track and delete it.
If you want more than one song you'll have to join them together with iMovie or some other application. Then open that joined file with QT Player. Then do a select all and copy. Now go to the QT window of the movie and select the Edit->Add to Movie menu option. You don't want to scale it because it will change the play speed of the audio unless it's time is exactly the same as the movie.
You could go the other way, open the movie, select all and copy, and then past with scaling to the audio. That will change the speed of the movie and transitions to fit the audio track. In this case the resulting video file will have the name of the audio track file that you started with.
You may have to play with it a bit to get exactly what you want. Be sure to work with copies of all the media files for the project.
-Peter Burtwistle: I opened the Qt movie that iPhoto makes when you export to iDVD and removed the sound track.
Then made a new soundtrack by opening all three songs in QT, then cutting and pasting them together.
Finally use QT Pro's 'Add to Movie" option to add the soundtrack to the original movie.
This worked well and was fast to do too.
-Joe Lombardo: I ended up having to extend the songs by 20 seconds so I brought them all into GarageBand and made some edits. Then I exported them all to iTunes as a single track and used that for the slideshow
From scotty321 at MacOSXHints.com: If you have Roxio Toast Titanium installed on your machine, you can join unprotected tracks yourself by simulating a disc burn. Simply take these steps:
Go to the Audio tab in Toast.
Drag your audio files from iTunes into Toast.
Reshuffle them in the proper order within Toast.
Go up to File: Save As Disc Image. Save your disc image somewhere on your Desktop.
Choose Utilities: Mount Disc Image. The CD will mount on your desktop, and iTunes will think that you just inserted a CD.
Within iTunes, select the tracks that you want to join and then use Advanced: Join CD Tracks.
Go through the import process, and you've got a joined track! Simply rename the track to whatever you want to call it, and you're good to go.
    From Lori...
    Burn the playlist in iTunes.
Make sure you have itunes Prefs just open the Cd and not automatically play or import the songs.
Insert the burned CD and iTunes will open.
Within iTunes, select the tracks that you want to join and then use Advanced: Join CD Tracks.
Go to Advanced>convert selection to AAC.
When done, make a new playlist named after the slideshow.
Put the new combined track into the playlist.
In iPhoto, select this playlist for your slideshow.

  • Problem Exporting slideshow with soundtrack in LR3.

I am trying to export a slideshow for a homework assignment. When exporting video with "pictures only" it exports just fine. When I add a soundtrack I receive:
    “Log (6)
    Assertion Failed: Seld->aenc
    AVC video encorder…
    infor: version 8.0.0.47059
    Info: Platform: Windows 64bit
    mc_enc_avc.001)
    extendedoption: Media_time_offest : 0.000000-> 1000.000000”
I have exported a slideshow with music before and never had problems with it. What can I do to fix the problem?
    I use a pc windows 7

After much research, I discovered that iTunes can create a compatible .m4a file
in iTunes,  highlight the Voice Memo you want to convert, then select Advanced...Create AAC Version.
This will convert the file and create a .m4a file of the same name.
Unfortunately, it is not in the same directory, and iTunes gives no feedback as to where it is.
Nor does it list it in the VoiceMemo playlist in iTunes.
    I found it in iTunes\Music\Music\My iPod\Voice Memos\
My sincere thanks to Dan Tull of Adobe for giving me the clues I needed to sort this out.
He has also flagged a bug report so hopefully future versions of LR will handle this situation more gracefully.

  • Slideshow with aperture 3

    Hi,
Can anyone tell me how to create a custom slideshow  template.
I want to produce slideshows for selling real estate so want to put on company logos, contact details etc and have the slides in a particular order.
Do I need to buy a plug-in or is there a way it can be done in Aperture - it is quite easy in Lightroom but I want to stay with Aperture.
Thanks for any help you can give.
    Ron

    Hello David,
Are you running OS 10.7.2 Lion? Perhaps you have trouble with a video codec? http://aperture.maccreate.com/2011/08/25/aperture-3-will-not-play-videos-if-lion -is-installed-and-3ivx-video-codec-is-installed/
Look in your System Library and User Library if the 3ivxVideoCodec.component
    is installed.
Check in /Library/Quicktime  (System Library) and ~/Library/Quicktime (User Library)
If you are running OS Lion, then the Libraries are hidden by default.
The User Library can be revealed from the Finder menu by holding down the option (⌥)-key while selecting "GO"  till the Library appears in the drop down menu.
The System Library can be revealed  from the Finder menu by selecting "GO" -> "Go To Folder" and entering    /Library/Quicktime .
Look for 3ivxVideoCodec.component installed and remove it, if it is present.
Also look in both libraries for a duplicate Aperture media browser plug-ins, e.g.
    /Library/Application Support/iLifeMediaBrowser/Plug-Ins/iLMBAperture31Plugin.ilmbplugin/
if you are running Lion and still have iLMBAperture31Plugin.ilmbplugin, remove it, if
    LMBAperturePlugin.ilmbplugin is present.

  • Problem exporting slideshow from Aperture

I have done a slideshow with about 300 photos and movie (hd). If I try to export, after more than 3 hours I obtain only music without video or only the final part of video with the first part of music.
Does exist a limit of photos/movies for slideshow? May you help me?
    Thanks.

I received this error, when exporting the slideshow.
The slideshow took some time to export and the display on the Mac was set to sleep within the hour.
The display went to sleep and soon afterwards, I received the error.
If you have your display set to go to sleep then this could be one reason why you are receiving this error.
If not then I'm stumped for another answer.

  • Help in export slideshow in Aperture 3

I had created a slideshow and attached an audio clip. When I preview it Aperture, everything is fine. But after I export it into .mov format(even in Apple TV or 720P) also lose the audio sound. Any suggest?

If it has DRM, I don't think Aperture will allow you export it, but I just did a test with a song from the iTunes store that did export. (This was only a test: I wouldn't steal someone's music.) I know iTunes store stopped putting DRM on songs sometime ago though. Don't know how to check if it has DRM.

  • Export slideshow with quicktime

I want to export my slideshow as a movie. The problem is that I want to chance my resolution to 720X576 (I live in the PAL world). But the export dialog box only gives 3 choices. Strange, since quicktime can handle HD.
    Any thoughts?

    Hi Polleke,
The only way you can export with those dimensions is selecting an album, go to share/export, choose the Quicktime tab, input your PAL dimensions and set your other options.
The caveat to this method is you can only have the current chosen song for the audio, there is no Ken burns and I think the transition is a dissolve.
I think if you go the iMovie way you can have everything just like iPhoto but will be able to export to Quicktime with PAL format.

  • Cannot Export Versions with Aperture 3.3

After upgrading to Aperture 3.3, I lost the ability to Export Versions of my files. Exporting Originals works just fine, but I need to I export jpegs for my work. What I end up getting now is a jpg with a totally black image. The metadata is intact and the size and jpeg format are correct, but the image is just black. I have already tried Repairing Permissions and Repairing the Database in Aperture with no change. I have not yet tried "Rebuild Database" but I do not think that is the problem because I am able to Export images from my Aperture Library files using iPhoto without a problem. Please help.

I am exporting with a preset that I have set up. Here are the settings:
    Image Format: JPEG
    Image Quality: 10
Size To: Fit Within (Pixels) Width 1024 Height 683
    DPI: 132
    (No Gamma Adjust)
    Color Profile: Use Source Profile
    (Black Pint Compensation NOT CHECKED)
    (Show Watermark NOT CHECKED)
Okay, the good news is that I tried other settings and it worked. Tiff works just fine and exporting the preset jpeg setting (full size, half size) works just fine. I then deleted the export setting mentioned above and created a new one, but it does not work.
So, I am almost there. I appreciate your suggestions so far as some of them worked. Any more ideas?

  • Export slideshow with playlist to QT?

My slideshow uses a 2 song playlist from iTunes. The slideshow works perfectly in iPhoto. When I export the slideshow to QuickTime and then play it, the soundtrack only plays the first song. The second half of the slideshow plays in silence. Why is this and what can I do about it?
    Thanks,
    Stephen

Lori's solution is to burn the joined tracks to a CD. Have you done the burn step?
"...Within iTunes, select the tracks that you want to join and then use Advanced: Join CD Tracks.
Go to Advanced>convert selection to AAC.
When done, make a new playlist named after the slideshow.
Put the new combined track into the playlist."
I assume that it is after the last step above where you burn the playlist to a CD.
"Make sure you have itunes Prefs just open the Cd and not automatically play or import the songs.
Insert the burned CD and iTunes will open."
And finally, with the CD in the Mac, you should be able to do the final step:
"In iPhoto, select this playlist for your slideshow."
If you don't want to burn a CD, you could use the same basic procedure, but join the songs in Garage Band. That would give you one track that you could send back to iTunes, which you could export with your slideshow.

  • Yet another export issue with Aperture 3

Judging by a search of topics, there seem to be a myriad of problems associated with getting files out of Aperture, some of which represent occult setting issues, others which seem to be actual bugs.  I've run into an issue which seems to defy categorization, and I'm not sure if it's me doing something wrong, or if it is actually yet another bug with this software.  I've been an Aperture user since 1.0 and I have to say the current version I'm running (3.4.3) is by far the worst yet.  Anyway, enough whining.  Here are the issues:
I'm running Aperture on a 6 core Mac Pro with Lion 10.7.5.  There are two thing happening.
    1.  Exporting JPEGs is INCREDIBLY slow - perhaps as long as 4 or 5 minutes for a 3MB file.
    2.  This is the one driving me batty right now.  Tried exporting a batch of images as JPEGs at the 50% original size setting.  The master files are large 16 bit TIFF images from Nikon D800 RAW files, post-processed in Nik HDR Efex Pro 2.  They are 80-100MB in size.  When I export the images to a file on my Desktop, it consistently exports 6- 10 KB thumbnails.  I've checked and rechecked my export settings and can find nothing amiss there.  Has anyone else had a similar experience?  Could the view I'm working in have anything to do with this?  I work 95% of the time in split view.
    Thanks,
    Russ

I agree that there re a lot of posts about exporting, but a very large number of them refer to the same thing, and it's not a bug, but rather a misunderstanding.
    For instance:
Tried exporting a batch of images as JPEGs at the 50% original size setting.
    Okay.
The master files are large 16 bit TIFF images from Nikon D800 RAW files, post-processed in Nik HDR Efex Pro 2
    Not relevant.
    They are 80-100MB in size.
    Not relevant either.
    Why?
Because size refers to the dimensions of the image. So a 1,000 x 1,000 pixel image exported at 50% will turn out as 500 x 500 pixels.
Were you expecting a jpeg between 40 and 50 MB? That's Jpeg quality or the amount of compression applied to the image. And as you're compressing a lossless format (tiff) to a lossy one, and one with an aggressive compression algorithm, he resulting Jpeg, even at high quality, will be much, much smaller, more likely in the 6 - 8 MB range.
That's the nature - and indeed the point - of Jpegs.
So, if you're getting 6 - 10 kb images, you're exporting at a very low Jepg Quality.
This may also explain why it's taking so long to export. Getting rid on 99.99% of the data and compressing into 10kb is always going to take time.

  • HT3781 Exporting slideshows from aperture to apple tv

Does anyone have any tips in terms of producing as good a quality slideshow on a HD Pioneer Elite TV via apple tv?
I am not able to replicate the resolution of the photos on the tv screen and I presume there is a setting that needs to be changed.
The movies we rent via itunes to apple tv to the Pioneer TV screen display in lovely HD so I presume there is something I am doing wrong.
If anyone has a suggestion I would be most appreciative.
    Thank you.

Without knowing what settings you are using how can anyone say what settings need to be changed?
So post back with OS and Aperture versions, how you're making the sideshow, what theme and what settings you are using. Also where in the chain does the sideshow drop quality? In Aperture, on your Mac, only at the TV?
    regards

  • Creating Professional Slideshows with Aperture 3

    Hello Guys,
I am looking to create some nice sleek slideshows. I want them to do the same effects as the ones featuring on apple's aperture action section (see ho the pros use aperture). I think they look amazing, and i would love to do something like it.
    http://www.apple.com/aperture/action/
Is aperture the only software needed for it, or i would need to combine with other software?
    please help.
    thanks so much in advance!

It does not allow for this. I think Apple assumed that we would have our customers sitting with us in the studio watching the slideshow the program generates. not very practical. After a shoot the is obviously some post production work with RAW images and then creation of the slideshows. i don't know about anybody else, but my customers are not wanting to sit around after a shoot waiting. It sure would be nice to burn a simple slideshow like the program generates to disc and mail it to them so they can review their pictures and have a keepsake. I guess *I am hoping they will fix this with the next release*. You can use iDVD (poor choice) iPhoto or imovie (a little better) or 3rd party software (MotionHD by Roxio) the best in my opinion. MotionHD is fast, easy, allows mult. images on screen and panning images is much better.
