Exporting Snapzpro tutorial for web, help!?

I recently finished a 6 part tutorial for a clients website using snapzpro and graphics from Motion. I agreed to do the project if I could hand over compressed Quicktime files directly to their web guy. Now they think that none of their customers have quicktime and want it to be in flash or windows media player. The problem is, I don't know how to get it off of my timeline. My sequence settings are at Animation, with 30fps, and a square pixel ratio of 1125 x 844. Anyone have any ideas?

I have flash, and have tried to compress it down, but 2 things happen. It looks horrible and the file is over 100mb for a 3 min. section. Is buying Sorensen squeeze my only hope? or does flip4mac yield decent results for wmv files? Thanks guys.

  • Artwork shifting when exporting or saving for web?

Have been creating some simple icons in Illustrator (CS 5.5), but the artwork is shifting when I try to export. For example, I'll create a 30x30px artboard, draw the icon inside the artboard, end export as a PNG. When I do this, even though the artwork is completely within the bounds of the artboard (no drop shadows or anything like that that would extend outside the artboard), there is some slight clippling that occurs in the exported icon. It's like Illustrator is shifting the artwork to the right and/or down 1 pixel as it exports.  Any ideas what might be happening here?
In the meantime, as a work-around I've just been copying the artwork from Illustrator, pasting it into a 30x30px canvas in Photoshop, pasting the artwork, adn then doing Save for Web. This works fine, but is an extra step that I'd rather not have to do.

    Jacob,
I tried enabling "Use Preview Bounds" as you suggested, but it still showed everything within the artboard. This was as expected since I set the button stroke for inside alignment rather than centered alignment when I created it.
I've attached an image showing the icon in 3 states. The left most image is the icon as it appears in Illustrator shown within the artboard. Actually the artboard was created by clicking on the icon.  When "Use Preview Bounds" was enabled, it lined up perfectly with the artboard lines.  The middle image shows the icon in the Save for Web dialog preview. You can see that it already looks shifted.  The last image on the right shows the exported icon where the right and bottom edges looked cropped.
As I mentioned, if I create a 30x30px canvas in PS, copy the artwork into it, and export using Save for Web for PS, it looks fine.
    Thanks for your help, BTW.

  • 4 questions on export/importing graphics for Web and Photoshop.

Hi, I have 4 questions here, and if you can answer one or more, I'd be happy!! :-)
    1. In general, can there be a loss of quality when I export a file from Illustrator CS3 to Photoshop CS3, and then re-import it into Illustrator?
My guess is that you can switch applications with one single file, but you have to know what you're doing (any advise? I'm working with files that contain both text with either illustrated graphics or photos).
    2. When I switch applications like that, which one is the final application I should save my final work from (for use in print and web)? Does this matter at all? (Example: I have text created in Illustrator. I export it into Photoshop and add a filter, and maybe a blured-layer of the the whole graphic.)
    3. After completing the steps in the example above, and I do re-import it all back into Illustrator, the image appears with horizontal path-like blue lines, that let me slice the photo/text if I wanted to. Why does it do this and how do I get rid of those blue lines?
    4. When exporting a file for web, what options are you setting for .gif and .jpg in order to NOT see its white background/frame around graphic?

    1. Yes. The artwork will be rasterized to a fixed resolution in Photoshop. When re-imported it may appear the same, but it will have limited resolution on output, whereas Illustrator vector art has no (or infinite) resolution.
    2. Depends on the artwork and what the client or printer has requested. If you can keep the text editable in Illustrator (blur and some Photoshop filters are available) then you'll have a more versatile and resolution independent file than you would if you switched to Photoshop. In the end, if the resolution of you art is adequate, it's up to you which is better for you to work with, based on your skills and experience. Keep all working files so you can make changes to artwork imported from one program into another.
Some features you might enjoy: You can place Illustrator files into Photoshop and make them Smart Objects. They remember they are Illustrator files and can be edited in Illustrator at any time. Rotate, scale, or distort the artwork in Photoshop and it is re-rendered a the PSD file's native resolution. In CS3 you can add filters to Smart Objects while keeping the vector data intact.
    3. I have read about this, but as I'm not fully up on CS3 and don't have it installed on my main system I can't help.
    4. To not see a white background for JPEG use a different matte colour. JPEGs cannot be transparent, so some colour must show where you want transparency. for GIF, the same applies, but you can turn on transparency. The artwork will be transparent, but the matte colour will determine how the anti-aliased edges are rendered. Use a matte colour that's as close to your expected background as possible or choose None. PNG 24 supports 8-bit transparency, which looks best of all, but is not supported by MS Internet Explorer versions 6 or lower.

  • Errors in Export to PDF for web use - some images are lost when PDF is enlarged & in browser

I have a multi-page PDF in InDesign CS6 that I want to export to view on the web. I need the file to stay under 2MB, and I need it to be crisp and nice enough to read the type on the page (as small as 9pt type).
The errors that are occurring are the following:
On some browsers, some images will entirely not show up. Some of the missing images have been pasted into the document, some placed. I cannot think of a correlation.
When the PDF is enlarged (Adobe Acrobat X 10.1.10) to more than ~200%, there is one placed image that will mostly disappear. What I mean by "mostly" is that little bits of it are still visible, like I masked it carelessly or something. Since this is only occurring with one image it seems that it would be a problem with the image itself, yes? I'm all ears if I'm making a mistake. It is a placed .ai file with no link errors. Should I not be placing directly from illustrator? It renders wonderfully from 100% all the way up to 188%, and then if you enlarge by margins of 1% little bits of it disappear, almost a chunk at a time.
The way I've been exporting is:
File > Export > Adobe PDF (Print)
Adobe PDF Preset: Smallest File Size
    Standard: None
    Compatinility: Acrobat 6 (PDF 1.5)
Options: Optimize for Fast Web View
Export Layers: Visible & Printable Layers
    Compression
I always change the downsampling from [100/150] to [150/225]. I usually leave the JPG image quality low. I leave both bottom boxes checked (compress text and line art, crop image data to frames)
    Output
    Color Conversion: convert to destination
    Destination: sRGB 1EC61966-2.1
Profile Inclusion Policy: Include Destination Profile
However, after reading a few other forum questions I started trying to export as Acrobat 4 so that it would flatten. When I do that, problem #2 still persists although I didn't test problem #1. I haven't tried using Distiller, and using the "prepare for web publishing" action within Acrobat itself makes the PDF too artifacted.
At the heart of my question is this: I am a young designer at an old company that is not necessarily keeping up with the times. I REALLY want to know what the best, most efficient way to export a pdf for web viewing is. Does this exist in InDesign, outside of InDesign? Does it exist at all? Tell me what I'm doing wrong so that I can get better!
    Thank you in advance.

Show Large Images is a preference inside of Acrobat which might be disabled.

  • InDesign - export a PDF for web view and print

I have a brochure created for print in InDesign. I need to create a PDF for the web, that would be a link to download and print on a home printer. How do I accomplish this?
    Thanks for any help!

export smallest size or take the print PDF in to Acrobat and reduce the size there.

  • Exporting photo slideshow for web

Hi I had a search but couldn't find the answer to my question.
I'm trying to use FCE4 to create slide shows of photos. I don't use video at all. I import the photos in TIFF format and after arranging them into a sequence and adding audio, effects, I then attempt to export them to the web.
Problem is the Quick time movie project that is exported isn't appropriate. It's either too large for the web (+60MB) or it is very low quality and not the same quality as I viewed in FCE.
I would like the size of the video be 1024x768, and I'm using Export using Quick Time conversion, and have experimented with the various setting for Quick Time Move including dial up internet, broadband high, or more detailed settings using TIFF compression. The manual isn't helping much...would appreciate your help!

It depends a lot on what level of broadband you expect the user to have, and whether the video has to play immediately. There are some natural sizes to use for the video, such as 1280x720, 960x540 or 640x360, and the frame rate ought to be 24, 25, or 30, depending on the source material.
Making it for medium to good broadband, and with wanting the video to play right away, you could do say 1280x720, 1 megabit per second, H264. It would look reasonably good. If you don't mind people having to download for a little while before the video can play, then take the data rate up to 3 mbps.
So, one way to look at that would be to use the AppleTV preset from QuickTime Player, then open that mp4 file and save as to mov (just to make your html task easier). It would look very good, but might take a bit of downloading time before it's ready to start playing.

  • Adobe media encoder CS4 - alised graphics and small black bars at 480x360 for web---HELP!

I recently installed the CS4 premiere software with Adobe Media encoder. I encode video for the web.
I have been a professional web video producer for over 10 years and have been using adobe products my whole career
    My issues are:
         1)  I can not get clean edges on my graphics when exporting a flash video (.flv or .f4v) using "field order: progressive" as it should be for web output. All my graphics are high quality and I have tryed many formats (.eps, .psd, .gif ,jpg, .pnd) but once I change the field order drop down in the encoder settings to "(none) progressive" the graphics become alised...
         2) My videos which are  a size of 480x360 now have small black bars at the top and bottom after encoding the original down to 480x360. I have tried to crop the video so the bar go away but the whole  video get fuzzy...WTF
I have spent so many hours reading and searching trying to fix these two issued and I am thinking that I am going back to my old software and discrediting the new adobe product every chance i get!!!!!!!!!!
I was previously using premiere pro 1.5, editing video and graphics and then exporting an uncompressed .mov file and then used Flash 8 Video Encoder to render a .flv file. This produced great video with crisp graphics.
    PLEASE HELP

    Stan,
I was using the on2VP6 codec at data rates from 275k to 400k with good results. -- with the new CS$ endcoder i am used h.264 at 500k to 700k, video quality looks good but the graphic overlays look like alised crap. In the encoder settings the edges of the graphics get jaged when I make the field order progresive...
I am starting with DV NTSC video at 720x480.
I am going to go back to my old work flow and test it. The settings are a bit different from premiere pro 1.5 to CS4 -- in 1.5 i could export out an unconpressed .mov with square px and then bring that large file to flash media encoder to create the .flv

  • Exporting PDF format for web viewing, fonts look bad

Hey everybody I'm relatively new to indesign so sorry if this is a simple one. I'm doing a newsletter in indesign, which will be used stricktly for web viewing. Whenever I export the file as a pdf the body text fonts look a bit off, as though they are slightly pixelated around the edges. This is not as noticable in the artcile titles with larger font, but any smaller font (i'm using size 14, and futura book) and it gets this pixelation, it is even more noticeable in the thinner type sets of the font. Another odd thing is the first page of the newsletter the fonts are more messed up looking than the following pages where the same font types and sizes are used, the only major difference is the first page has a photo on it, but the fonts that look weird are below the photo not overlaying it or anything like that. I turned off all the compression on the pdf export, also tried it will varying amounts of compression but still have the same issue. And I am viewing this in Mac's Preview program, not acrobat.

Ok, just checked through all the flattening preview highlights and everything looked fine in that. Since my exported document looked perfectly fine in acrobat, but sort of pixelated in mac's preview, is there any way around that?
If you are serving the PDF via a web address it will very likely be viewed in a browser (not downloaded and opened in an app like Preview or Reader). All of the browser displays have slightly different anti-aliasing, which you can see if you zoom in on a screen capture of the text. Here's a line of text from your PDF at 100%, magnified to 400% in Photoshop. From top to bottom Safari, Chrome, Firefox:
There's nothing you can do about the anti-aliasing quality of the different browsers and apps. The PDF you posted has live transparency, so it isn't a flattening issue.

  • Export or save for web crops artwork incorrectly

Illustrator incorrectly crops artwork too small by a few pixel when using Save for Web or Export. If you fit an artboard to your artwork, either manually using smart guides or by using the "Fit to Selected" command, it will look correct in the work area but when you go to Save for Web it will be noticeably truncated on the right and bottom sides. If all the artwork is supposed to be within the artboard then toggling "Clip to Artboard" will actually change the size of the exported image by 1 or 2 pixels when it shouldn't change at all. Can somebody confirm that this is a bug?

Which version of Illustrator are you using ?

  • Exporting HD video for web

What settings should I use to compress a HD video for web?

  • Output files for Web Help

I am new to Robohelp. I am using Robohelp 8 and FrameMaker 9 for TC 2 on Windows XP.
Previously I used Webworks Publisher 2003 to convert my project and the output was put into one folder. I'm having difficultly figuring out how to do that with Robohelp 8. Right now it is putting each converted page in a separate subfolder with a *.css file. I don't even need the *.css file for each file because I just use one *.css file for the whole project.
So, for example, if I convert a FrameMaker book called BigBook.book and it has these files:
    -ScreenA.fm
    -ScreenB.fm
    -ScreenC.fm
Then, I want Robohelp to put all of the converted book files in a folder called "Output" with the names:
    -ScreenA.htm
    -ScreenB.htm
    -ScreenC.htm
Why? This help is contextual and I hand it over to the developers for the help. When the end-user clicks the help button, the GUI has a script that looks in one folder for a *.htm file that matches the *.jsp file of the GUI.
Sorry if this has been asked before. I looked around, but I could not find anything.
    Thanks,
    M.Hess

    Welcome to the RH forums.
Can you clarify for us whether you are linking a FrameMaker document to your RoboHelp project and updating the content, or importing your FrameMaker documents? It sounds like the later.
In this case, what you can do is create a folder in your RoboHelp project called "Output". Before you import your FrameMaker documents, select this folder in your Project Manager pod. This ensures that any imported files are placed inside that directory. As you already have files you've imported, you can move them to a directory as you see fit. Just create an "Output" folder and click and drag the files into it in the Project Manager pod.

  • Exporting to quicktime for web

Can you tell me the best quality setting when exporting a clip from final cut for use on a website.
The clip has been green screened with the filter and it looks clear in the viewer, but when watching it in quicktime and on the web, its fuzzy?
    Any ideas
    Thank you

    No there isn't.
You will need to purchase a separate Flash encoder.
There are several with the most notable, of course, being from Adobe.

  • Export InDesign styles for web site use?

    Hi,
Very often, I have a brochure that's laid out in ID that later needs to be created as a web page. All this time I've been copy/pasting text into Dreamweaver and restyling everything. Is there a way to export the text from an ID file and maintain its styles? Even if I had to tweak or redefine the styles in Dreamweaver, it would save a lot of time styling things indvidually in DW.
    Thanks.
    -Karen

Which version of ID? CS3 and CS4 both have export options for Dreamweaver under the file menu. CS2 has options to export for GoLive which would probably work as well.
What you won't get, though, is functioning styles, only a pre-built CSS stylesheet for you to flesh out. It will include all of the styles in the document as CSS style tags.

  • Exporting a slideshow for web viewing

Before recently switching to an Apple + Aperture, I was using Google's Picasa on a PC, which very easily allowed me to upload my pics which could then be viewed on the web as a slideshow. To date I have not found how to do this easily out of Aperture to my .mac account... and I'd be dumbfounded if such a basic feature is not available.
Can anyone reassure me that I don't have to go back to Picasa for this simple feature?
    Thanks,

Actually you have more than the Quiktime option for exporting...
QuickTime is the technology that drives all multimedia on your Mac. Regardless of whateever format you choose to export from iPhoto it will always be a QuickTime file.
Distortion in this case means over-driven...i.e. clipping.
Try this basic fix: trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder. (Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
    *What's the plist file?*
For new users: Every application on your Mac has an accompanying plist file. It records certain User choices. For instance, in your favourite Word Processor it remembers your choice of Default Font, on your Web Browser is remembers things like your choice of Home Page. It even recalls what windows you had open last if your app allows you to pick up from where you left off last. The iPhoto plist file remembers things like the location of the Library, your choice of background colour, whether you are running a Referenced or Managed Library, what preferences you have for autosplitting events and so on. Trashing the plist file forces the app to generate a new one on the next launch, and this restores things to the Factory Defaults. Hence, if you've changed any of these things you'll need to reset them. If you haven't, then no bother. Trashing the plist file is Mac troubleshooting 101.
