  • After Effects CC - Export Still Frame

    Hi,
I have recently upgraded to CC. I am trying to export still frames as a jpg from After Effects CC
CS 5.5 (and previous versions) allowed me to use the shortcut ctrl+alt+s to add the current frame to the render queue as a still frame.  I would then change the format via the output module.
The same shortcut in CC opens a dialogue box with psd as the only available output format. Composition> Save Frame As > File... also results in psd format with no other options.
Is there a simillar simple process for exporting a still frame jpg via the render queue?
    Thanks in adavance

There does seem to be some unnecessary changes.
However i have resolved this myself, if you click ok on the dialogue box and except the psd format, it adds it to the render quene where you can then change the format. No idea why there aren't any other options in the 'Save as File...' option, only PSD.
This is the expected behavior when you have never rendered a comp from a newly installed version of AE. It's worked this way since at least AE 6.5 (the oldest version I have installed on a nearby computer to compare). The output module needs to have a destination for the file, so when you invoke the Save Frame As File command for the first time it brings up the Save As dialog. For the same reason, if you were to add a comp to the Render Queue directly it won't allow you to render until you set a destination.
After the first time you create a output module with a destination, AE will remember the last-used location and use that by default without asking you. The only time you should it would ask you again is if you destroy AE's preferences or if the last-used location is no longer valid (deleted folder, disconnected drive, etc.).
The reason the only selectable format here is PSD is because that is what the default OM for Save Frame As File uses. You can, and should, change this if you always use a different format. Go to Edit > Templates > Output Module . Create a new template with your desired settings and assign it to Frame Default.

  • Exporting still frame from FCE

When exporting a still frame created in FCE, is there a way to make it so the resolution is as high as possible?

There is no point in making the resolution higher than the original frame as it will not improve it.
You might be able to do it in Photoshop or a similar program.

  • Exporting Still Frames from iMovie

I have managed to extract still frames from videos and put them back into iMovie. I would now like to export some still frames from iMovie and put them into a Word document. I can't seem to figure out how to do this. Any ideas?

set playhead at wanted position of clip ..
ctr-click, choose 'add still frame to Project'
in Project window, click on new clip, ctrl-click, choose 'reveal in Finder'
from Finder, copy .jpg to any other location of harddrive
drag that copy into your document..

  • How to export still frame from Quicktime movie?

    Hello folks
I often need to use a still frame from a quicktime movie as an image file to work with in PhotoShop for windows.
If I export a frame via the export command and choose "Movie to picture" I end up with a .pct file, that Photoshop will not open.
I can open the .pct file with the Quicktime PictureViewer and then export it from that app as i.e. a JPEG-file, but I would like to avoid that extra step and just export a usable file straight from QT.
Anybody know how that can be done?
    Best regards
    Kris

Same problem here - no matter whether I choose Photo - JPEG or PNG format as the "compressor", QT 7 Pro wants to save with a .pct extension, and changing it to .jpg or .png extension fails to open.
The two workarounds I've found are:
    1. Save it in Photo - JPEG or PNG format with a .pct extension, open with Photoshop CS4 or below, save to desired format.
One may be able to accomplish the same using Preview instead of Photoshop, but on my Snow Leopard machine I get the error "The PICT file format is not supported in 64-bit mode. Try selecting "Open in 32 Bit Mode" in the Finder's info window for Preview." and I don't feel like bothering to do this.
    2. Use Grab to take a screenshot, copy into Preview, crop as necessary and save to desired format.
Which is easier depends on whether you feel like having to do precision cropping or not. Totally agree with above commenters - whither PICT, Apple?

  • Export Still Frame - Resolution

I need to export a still frame from a video to create print materials. I exported as DPX from Program monitor (couldn't find any settings for resolution). Opened the file in Photoshop and realized the file resolution is 72 pixels per inch. How can I change export settings to be able to export stills at 300 resolution.Since DPX is used to create film prints, I assume there is a way to export stills at other than screen resolution. Suggestions and pointers appreciated.
    Thanks.
    RV

I assume there is a way to export stills at other than screen resolution.
There isn't. Screen resolution has little connection to print resolution. Video (and film) doesn't have any sort of DPI, though it's commonly referred to as having 72DPI; this is really just a convenience, more than anything. The only thing that matters in video is raw frame size, e.g. 1920x1080. At the typical print resolution of 300DPI, that's about 6.5"x3.5"--not exactly poster size.
The best you can do is use Photoshop or other scaling algorithms to blow up the image, with the knowledge that it's going to get less sharp the larger you go.

  • Exporting Still Frames - A quicker Way?

Is there a way to sort of automate the export of still frames? I have cmd-e mapped to "Export QuickTime Conversion," but still every time I have to name the file and change the setting to "Still Frame." Is there a plug-in or script so that I can just hit one button on the timeline and have a still on my desktop or something. This is something that's bothered for a long time.
    Thanks,
    Madame Psychosis

In the viewer, set an in-out on the frame you want to export, drag from the viewer to a bin (creating a sub clip of sorts).
Do this for each frame you wan to export.
Select all clips in bin and export to compressor. Use compressor for the single frame setting and that should do the trick.

  • Exporting still frames as pictures

There used to be an export (or share?) menu item that allowed an imovie to be saved as an image sequence. ie: a series of still frames would be saved in jpeg or other picture formats. Can't find this in imovie 10.0.3?

    Hi ducatti71
    i have the same problem.
Can you please explain your exact workflow for me, so that i can reproduce it? Thank you.

  • Exporting still frames in 16:9

I know how to export a still, but am working on a 16:9 project (HDV). It is a still from a "talking head" interview ... when I export (using quicktime conversion > still image) the head is stretched. Looking back through other posts I've tried to use preview (using tools>adjust size>1920x1080 and 640x480) head is still stretched. I don't have access to photoshop. Am I just imagining this or is my ratio indeed off?

HDV is Anamorphic, so if you export a still from FCP, it will come out at 1440x1080.
Open it in Preview. Go to Tools > Adjust Size. Turn off "Scale Propotionally" and set the width value to 1920. Save it. This will give you a 1:1 image in the correct aspect ratio.
You can then apply a global rescale % value (Turn on "Scale Propotionally" again) if you want it to be smaller.

  • Drag and drop still frames

I want to export a number of still frames from a movie for insertion into a report made using Pages
At present I use imovie 6 HD and I can command F to save the frame to a folder of choice and later command drag and drop to insert the saved still frame within the confines of a table cell. I can also use quicktime 7 pro and command E to export as a picture
I got to thinking why can't I just drag and drop the frame I am viewing straight from the open quicktime window into the table cell in Pages. I just want the still frame not the whole movie.
    Any work arounds?
    Thanks in anticipation

Actually it is not such a bad idea as I email a pdf version to my customers anyway. Using PDF shrink I got a 66 meg pages file with 6 'stills' down to 106kb. It initially went down to 1meg just using export from Pages
The trouble is that the large size of the pages document makes it a bit slow to respond if lots of 'stills' are taken from a large movie file.
Shame there is not a keyboard combination to do what I wanted in the first place using drag n drop
I shouldn't complain though. I understand that the current imovie still can't export still frames at all.
    Thanks again for your interest

  • Export Still Image w/ Alpha

Can it be done? - What settings do I need to export still frame with alpha channel?

    .png
When you export... look to see if you have .png as an option.
It's basically a Lossless picture format. (it's similar to a .gif... but the quality is waaay better.)
Also you are are gonna want to make sure that your background is actually Transparent. If you have anything underneath (any type of background) you will not have a Transparent Picture or Still Frame w/ an Alpha Channel. You will have a picture with whatever background you chose.
If FCP will not allow you to do this... you may need to export to QT, then find the frame you want, and export a .PNG from QT.

  • Best settings for exporting stills from video?

i've exported still frames to photoshop as tiff, jpeg, and photoshop format and still end up get those horizontal lines on the contours of some elements of the still-like the ones we see while reviewing a QT movie-i've been unsuccessful with the export options and resoerted to pixel correction to correct the problem--is there another way?--thanks

    Hello Brian,
Have you tried de-interlacing before exporting?
Sometimes, when I'm in a rush, I would expand the Canvas/Viewer (viewed at 100%), pick the clearest frame, and do a screen capture.
For example, with the captured image (in Photoshop), I have a marquee preset at 640x480 (NTSC). I created an action to crop, resize to 720x480, then set the Pixel Aspect Ratio to NTSC.

  • Still Frame Quicktime Export with Interlace. what can I do?

    hi.
do you know how to avoid the interlacing happening when making a still frame with quicktime conversion in fcp? I need some stills for promotional purposes but the interlacing is a problem obviously.
    thanks for you help.
    best rob

2 ways- make a freeze frame and export a still of that or de-interlace in photoshop.
The problem is you are throwing away half of the vertical resolution. If you're going to be printing these, they'll look like heck. I understand there's a niftyplug in called genuine fractals for photoshop that does a decent job of up-rezzing.

  • Can you send/export a still frame from an FCP sequence?

Can you send/export a still frame from FCP as a picture to the desktop? Doesn't matter if it is a .jpeg, .tiff, . bitmap
    G5 Mac OS X (10.4.8) Dual 1.8

serach the forum for any of the hundreds of posts detailing this process -
my personal favorite is shift-N, apple-9, type name, drag to bin, batch export.
The best thing about the batch export queue is you can set up a batch with the file format and destination folder and then keep adding new clips/stills to export.
    Hope this helps -

  • Exporting 1-frame stills from fcp

Here's my problem: I've captured lots of 1-frame stills from clips, stored in the Browser. Using 24PA Anamorphic Setup, wanting my final DVD to play 16:9 on a widescreen LCD. I then create a new Anamorphic Sequence and drag all stills to the timeline. Then, I export all the stills as jpg's, using QT Conversion to jpg. This works fine. But when I look at the resulting stills in Photoshop, they are squashed. Now, I can convert them to QT files and then get a nice correction by exporting the stills back out of QT, using Show Movie Properties>Visual Settings>Unchecking "Preserve Aspect Ratio">Changing Dimensions to 853 x 480. But then I've got a QT file which doesn't open in Photoshop. Yikes! By the way, in fcp, it doesn't seem to matter what format I set for the export--png,jpg,photoshop, etc. The stills always look squashed, compared to the video that they came from. Thanks for your help.

Drew13 or anyone! Oops! I just discovered another problem. I changed the pixel aspect ratio of all the 1-frame stills that I had exported from my 16:9 fcp project, and while there in Photoshop they look correct. But if I open these pictures in Preview, they still look squeezed. Then, if I open them again in Photoshop, I get this notice, "Pixel aspect ration correction is for preview purposes only. Turn it off for maximum quality." When the picture opens, it looks correct at 16x9 again. Apparently, changing the pixel aspect ratio in Photoshop does not "really" change the photo. My goal is to use the exported stills in a DVD slideshow, and have them look correct at 16x9 dimensions, but now I'm stuck with all squeezed photo-stills. Hmm.
