Exporting Still from template?

Hi all, using dvdsp4, I'd like to export a still from an apple template to make my own intro movie... Any ideas how to export to FCE or photoshop? Thanks!

I don't think there is an "export still" option in DVDSP. Your best bet is probably command-shift-4 for a screenshot (this lets you drag a rectangle around the area you want)

  • Problem with exporting still from 4k project

When exporting a still from a 4k project I get a white or transparent picture (depending on the chosen file type). Does anyone know if there's a solution to this problem?

There is no 4K interlaced format. Are you sure that's the setting you're using? Is the playhead over the frame you want to export? Can't reproduce the problem you're seeing.

  • Problem exporting stills from movie

    Hello,
I'm trying to export stills in JPEG or TIFF from my quicktime movie. (QT Pro 7)
I drag the playhead to the image > export > movie to pic > TIFF (or JPEG)
But no matter what, the image saved on my desktop is in a PICT format which I cannot read.
    Thank you.

You don't need to keep the .pct file extension on your export.
You can change the .pct to .jpg (if you use Photo-JPEG compression) extension and save away.
    Bonus tip:
You can also change the display size of the movie playback (drag or use the menu) and your "capture" will be made using this newer size.
    Bonus tip two:
You can also use any image from the movie to create a custom icon for the .mov file.
Position the playhead to the image you wish to capture. Use the right-left arrow keys to step through each frame.
Command-C (copy) and switch to the Finder. Do a "Get Info" on the movie file.
Click (just once) on the small QT icon in the upper left of the Get Info window and Command-V (paste).
Your movie now sports a custom icon! Makes finding a file from a folder of dozens very easy.

  • Best settings for exporting stills from video?

i've exported still frames to photoshop as tiff, jpeg, and photoshop format and still end up get those horizontal lines on the contours of some elements of the still-like the ones we see while reviewing a QT movie-i've been unsuccessful with the export options and resoerted to pixel correction to correct the problem--is there another way?--thanks

    Hello Brian,
Have you tried de-interlacing before exporting?
Sometimes, when I'm in a rush, I would expand the Canvas/Viewer (viewed at 100%), pick the clearest frame, and do a screen capture.
For example, with the captured image (in Photoshop), I have a marquee preset at 640x480 (NTSC). I created an action to crop, resize to 720x480, then set the Pixel Aspect Ratio to NTSC.

  • Exporting Stills from video

I have created several still clips from a video project but I can't seem to transfer the stills to iPhoto by selecting all, naming the file and saving the file in jpg. I have tried both ways (importing from iPhoto and exporting from iMovie) but when I export the file from iMovie to iPhoto it does not appear in the library. ??? When i click and drag a single pic to the desk top it still has the .div extension
attached. I have to remove the attachment and change it to jpg in order to drag it into iPhoto.
    Thanks

select frame by positioning the playhead in iMovie
then hit -F (as Freeze, or Frame)
now, you should see a pic-file on your desktop, which you should be able to drag'n drop/import into iPhoto...
my guess is, you've selected a clip (=video, not still), and did choose motion-jpeg as export option... THAT is not compatible with iPhoto...

  • Problems exporting stills from video

ok so i have never had good luck exporting a still image from FCP. they always come out blurry. any tips would be awesome!

Pick a frame that has as little movement as possible. You may need to deinterlace in Photoshop. Keep in mind that if you're working with SD video, the resolution is pretty low compared to normal photographs.

  • Export stills from cs3? hdv

    Hello,
I am just exporting a couple of frames from the timeline.
    The source footage is HDV 1440 x 1080 (1.333)
I'm sure I am being really stupid but why is the (default) bitmap image a wee bit squished? ie it doesn't look 16:9 anymore or normal.
I have played with all the export settings (DV widescreen, HD anamorphic)and they seem to all alter the image, but none of them just give me the same image as in the project monitor.
Can you help please? I'm sure this must be an easy one?
    many thanks
    scott

Where/how are you viewing the exported frame?
ie. The Source Monitor or the Program Monitor or elsewhere?
It should be exactly the same in the Program monitor becasue it is easy to export a frame and then cut it directly back into the timeline. eg a freeze frame.

  • Exporting Stills to iPhoto from iDVD

Is it possible to export stills from iDVD? I have an antique home movie on DVD and can't find any way to export stills from it to iPhoto. There are no copyright problems and I only have the DVD.

use Grap (in the Utilities folder) go get a large screen shot of the picture
Will Grab capture DVD images? I originally started using SnapzPro because "standard" screen capture methods wouldn't capture DVD images.
    640 x 480 x 72dpi images
640x480 pixels are all there are in the video image. With Photoshop the pixel size can be bumped up a little. A bigger problem will probably be due to interlacing artifacts.

  • How to up the DPI on exported images from Final Cut

Is there a way to export stills from Final Cut that are 300 DPI, I think they are exporting at 72 DPI?
    Catherine

DPI is a measure of density of pixels. It tells us nothing about the printed size of the image (width in inches x height in inches)
    A 1200 x 900 image @ 300 dpi yields a 4" x 3" image when printed.
That same size (in pixels) image printed at 100 dpi will yield a 12" x 9" print.
The number of picture elements (pixels) is exactly the same between the two prints but the one in 100dpi image are 3x larger - which will yield a softer image when viewed from the same distance as the 4"x3" 300dpi image.
However, if you view the 300dpi 4"x3" print from 2' away and view the 100dpi 12"x9" print from 6' away - they will appear the same.
Discussions of finding meaning in DPI is difficult without knowing how the final will be viewed.
fwiw - I've made poster size prints at 75 dpi that looked just fine when viewed from 10-12'.

  • Still from .mov to PhotoshopCS to DVD Studio - square/rectangular?

Although the non-square pixel option in PS cs is a great addition, it has made murky for the the already mind-twisting square/non-square pixel business.
    With this workflow -
1)Export still from FCP/Motion for Photoshop
2)Use still as reference to create overlays
3)Import overlays into DVD Studio Pro
    My uncertainty is with this-
When I open the still in PS do I change to 0.9 pixels to do the overlays? Or any consideration at all with this matter?
    Thanks

Pretty much what the others have said also, ditto. Bear in mind that you may also need to throw a deinterlacing or NTSC filter on it if need be (may not dependning what comes out.)
The whole 720 x 540, 720 x 534, 720 x 486, 720 x 480 choices, coupled with the version of DVD SP and version of Photoshop, as a wise man oncee said, makes it a bad day to give up sniffing glue somtimes
(Sizes and NTSC filters are NTSC centric)

  • Export stills

is there any way to export stills from fcpx a little faster then going through the destinations menu? resolve is much more flexible in that regard....option click on the current frame and save right there....their gallery feature is nice as well.....
is there anything in fcpx like that?
i am working with Red Epic 5k raw files so the stills are very nice size Tiffs....

thanks, i was aware of that video....
but i did not know that i could create my own shortcut......the only problem is that somehow it is not working? the shortcut does not show up....is it because it is a submenu item?
i would love apple to simply put in a button (like the guy in the video said, adobe just has a camera button with a click sound)...i can't imagine i am the only one who wants and needs this....
EDIT: the submenu items have "..." which have to be added as well....now the shortcut shows up
would still love a "camera" button

  • Low quality export for stop motion animation stills from Canon 5D Mark ii

Thank you very much beforehand to anyone who is willing to look through this issue, it's been a long and frustrating process so far...
I am attempting to put together a stop motion animation in Final Cut Express but my exports are always either low quality, or medium quality and stretched. I am shooting on a Canon 5D Mark ii set to take pictures at 21M 5616x3744 [999] (though I'm not entirely sure what the 21M or 999 mean).
When I first assembled my stills (unedited or altered in any way) and exported, it looked like this:
A relatively drastic loss in colour and quality. This was achieved exporting through quicktime conversion using the following settings:
    Compression Type: H.264
    Compressor Quality: Best
    Size: 1920x1080 HD
    Preserve aspect ratio using: Crop
    Deinterlace source video: unchecked
Unhappy with the result, I went through hours of testing and researching which only yielded a result after I discovered the control-Q Easy Setup menu. I tried setting up as an apple intermediate codec using HDV-Apple Intermediate Codec 1080i60 at 29.97 fps. I kept the export settings the same as above, but knowing that I was now working with a canvas that keeps to the 16:9 proportions, I tried cropping one of my stills in photoshop to fit that 16:9 ratio.
I then imported my 16:9 cropped still and an unedited JPEG version from my camera and exported the resulting 10 second video. The result was better quality, but still noticeably degraded from the original stills. More importantly, both the cropped 16:9 and the unedited JPEG were stretched out of proportion as seen below (16:9 version):
Of course I forgot to note the original settings on Easy Setup so I can't figure out how to get back to the original lower quality, yet undistorted image (not that I want to do that). I tried numerous different sizes for the export including changing the Crop (when necessary) setting to letterbox. Nothing worked.
The canvas, however, immediately looked 100% better after switching the Easy Setup to HDV-Apple Intermediate Codec 1080i60 at 29.97 fps. It held the improved quality without distorting the image:
I'm not sure if there's any hope of having a great image quality, but at very least I would like to be able to export at the decent quality of the second screenshot without the stretching and cropping.
I need to have this resolved ASAP for work, I've already wasted too much time here. Any help is so appreciated, I'll be active in providing whatever additional information that I can to responders, though please keep in mind that I'm relatively new to all this, I don't know where to find everything

I've decided just to try to get back to the export that I showed in the first screenshot. That result came before I started tampering with the Easy Setup. Like I said, when I changed the setup the canvas quality improved drastically and the dimensions seemed to fit much better, but the export was vertically stretched and cropped. I just reset my FCE settings and it turns out the default setup is DV-NTSC, but it's giving me a terrible quality still...
I just want to get back to that second screenshot's quality.. Could someone suggest what I should switch the easy setup to for importing stills from my Canon 5D Mark ii to yield the right results?

  • Exporting 1-frame stills from fcp

Here's my problem: I've captured lots of 1-frame stills from clips, stored in the Browser. Using 24PA Anamorphic Setup, wanting my final DVD to play 16:9 on a widescreen LCD. I then create a new Anamorphic Sequence and drag all stills to the timeline. Then, I export all the stills as jpg's, using QT Conversion to jpg. This works fine. But when I look at the resulting stills in Photoshop, they are squashed. Now, I can convert them to QT files and then get a nice correction by exporting the stills back out of QT, using Show Movie Properties>Visual Settings>Unchecking "Preserve Aspect Ratio">Changing Dimensions to 853 x 480. But then I've got a QT file which doesn't open in Photoshop. Yikes! By the way, in fcp, it doesn't seem to matter what format I set for the export--png,jpg,photoshop, etc. The stills always look squashed, compared to the video that they came from. Thanks for your help.

Drew13 or anyone! Oops! I just discovered another problem. I changed the pixel aspect ratio of all the 1-frame stills that I had exported from my 16:9 fcp project, and while there in Photoshop they look correct. But if I open these pictures in Preview, they still look squeezed. Then, if I open them again in Photoshop, I get this notice, "Pixel aspect ration correction is for preview purposes only. Turn it off for maximum quality." When the picture opens, it looks correct at 16x9 again. Apparently, changing the pixel aspect ratio in Photoshop does not "really" change the photo. My goal is to use the exported stills in a DVD slideshow, and have them look correct at 16x9 dimensions, but now I'm stuck with all squeezed photo-stills. Hmm.

  • How to export still frame from Quicktime movie?

    Hello folks
I often need to use a still frame from a quicktime movie as an image file to work with in PhotoShop for windows.
If I export a frame via the export command and choose "Movie to picture" I end up with a .pct file, that Photoshop will not open.
I can open the .pct file with the Quicktime PictureViewer and then export it from that app as i.e. a JPEG-file, but I would like to avoid that extra step and just export a usable file straight from QT.
Anybody know how that can be done?
    Best regards
    Kris

Same problem here - no matter whether I choose Photo - JPEG or PNG format as the "compressor", QT 7 Pro wants to save with a .pct extension, and changing it to .jpg or .png extension fails to open.
The two workarounds I've found are:
    1. Save it in Photo - JPEG or PNG format with a .pct extension, open with Photoshop CS4 or below, save to desired format.
One may be able to accomplish the same using Preview instead of Photoshop, but on my Snow Leopard machine I get the error "The PICT file format is not supported in 64-bit mode. Try selecting "Open in 32 Bit Mode" in the Finder's info window for Preview." and I don't feel like bothering to do this.
    2. Use Grab to take a screenshot, copy into Preview, crop as necessary and save to desired format.
Which is easier depends on whether you feel like having to do precision cropping or not. Totally agree with above commenters - whither PICT, Apple?

  • Can we still export data from the PSA?

in bw 3.5 we were able to create an export datasource from the PSA.  now in netweaver 7.0 it seems this functionality is lost.   am i correct on this?
    thanks

    Hi Brian,
in BI 7.0 the PSA belongs to the new BI-Datasource object which you can maintain with transaction RSDS. The new transformations and data transfer processes can be directly connected to the datasource without having to generate an export datasource. Also InfoProvide can now directly connected without generating export datasources.
