Exporting text into Pages
Is it possible to scan text from a typed page and then open it in Preview and somehow export it into Pages and be able to work with it in Pages? If so, how would you do that? Thanks.

You need to scan it with OCR software to create editable text. Or send the image to an online OCR service like

Is there a way to Export text from Pages 09 to Keynote 09 Slides?
I wanted to make an outline for a presentation in Pages 09 and then export it to Keynote 09 as slide text. But did not want to have to copy it piece by piece. I know you can do this with Word, but I would rather do stuff like this in Pages and Keynote.
Thanks!There isn't any export feature from Pages to Keynote. Have you tried Copy and Paste?

How can I insert text in Pages so it flows to the next page?
I try copying a block of text into Pages but it cuts off at the end of the page instead of flowing to the next page. How do I fix this?
You have probably started with a Layout mode template instead of a Word Processing template. See the sidebar in the Template Chooser for which is which.
Alternatively you may have pasted an object (possibly from the Internet), not text into a Word Processing template. Click inside the object and copy the text, then delete the object and try pasting again.

I've been tring to use the pdf2rtf service from Devon technologies to drop text into Pages (which I only bought today). However, it doesn't seem to work! If I use textedit there are absolutely no problems. Pages, however, refuses to open the pdf (greyed out in the open dialogue).
Devon say
NOW ABOUT USING PDF2RTFService:
This is a very convenient way of capturing the text content of PDF files from within any Cocoa application, such as Pages or TextEdit. If that's what you want to do, it really works.
Follow the instructions to install it.
Then logout/login (or restart) to initialize the new Service. Works under Tiger.
I also tried TextLightning. The developer claims that
it appears that Pages directly accepts
PDFs, so I don't see a way for TextLightning to intervene.
As far as I can see I can only get Pages to accept pdf files as graphics, rather than text - even though TextEdit does it fine. It seems like iWork was a poor purchase, rather than a way round Word's services shortcomings.
BTW most of the services in Pages are greyed out unless I have some text in it - is that usual?
Thanks from a (Pages) newbieMorning, Mark.
I think the problem is the assumption that since Pages can import RTF files it uses RTF within it's file structure, which is wrong.
Both of the sites (I checked them last night) mentioned that their product will work with any Mac OSX program which reads RTF. Since Pages does not (importing converts RTF but does not read RTF) this may be why it will not work with the program.
For now, though, you may be able to get the most by opening the PDF document in Text Edit, saving it as RTF and then importing it into Pages. Not the most elegant, but workable. It's too bad there is no way to build an Automator flow for this procedure. -

I' tried export text into textFrame in p.c. format but I can't.
I created this script but it isn't work. What can I made wrong ?
var myStories = myDocument.textFrames[myCounter].parentStory;
myStories.textExportPreference.platform = ImportPlatform.pc;
myFile = new File(caminhoCollect + "/" + myStories.label + ".txt");
myStories.exportFile(ExportFormat.textType, myFile);
thanks
Carlos CubasHi Carlos,
Let's look through your script one line at a time.
var myStories = myDocument.textFrames[myCounter].parentStory;
The trouble with this line is that if your document contains any linked text frames, you'll end up exporting the story multiple times. Instead, you should iterate through stories, as shown in the ExportAllStories example script.
myStories.textExportPreference.platform = ImportPlatform.pc;
Where did this come from? In the first line, you create a reference to a story. If you look at the object model viewer listing of the properties of a story, do you see textExportPreferences? No. TextExportPreferences exist at the application and document level, but not on a story. You want app.documents.item(0).textExportPreferences.
myFile = new File(caminhoCollect + "/" + myStories.label + ".txt");
myStories.exportFile(ExportFormat.textType, myFile);
I don't see anything obviously wrong with the above lines.
Thanks,

Export iWeb entries into Pages
I'd like to export my entire iWeb site into Pages so I can edit and print as a document. Is it possible to do this other than using copy and paste one entry at at time?
Thanks for any assistance.pbm,
welcome to Apple Discussions.
No, you cannot export to Pages. Even if you open the HTML file exported to a folder, you get different "layers" (background, text, images) on separate pages in Pages.
(Why do you want to edit the content in Pages and not in iWeb?)
To print as document, you could just print it from Safari. -

Obviously, as seen above, I'm doing something wrong or Live View does not do all the functions that Design View use to do. I realize I can still access Design View in non-Fluid Grid Layout documents and that is my current work-around. I copy from my Word file into Design View available in non-Fluid, then copy that code into my Fluid Grid Layout document, not real efficient use of my time. And, even that work-around may not be available after the next upgrade.Hans thank you for your reply and attention to this matter. Moreover, with your steeped expertise I do not, in any fashion, intend to be flippant or capricious.
However, I do not believe the reply is on point since I'm not discussing the insertion of an HTML tag/element; but rather, the placing of complex formatted text into my various web pages.
Design View and 2014.1 Live View seem to serve different functions. That is, Design View, for us, serves as a highly sophisticated HTML5 code generator that allows us to properly display complex formatted text that originally is created as a Word docx file. As I noted in my original post, the complex formatted text from the Word file is then pasted into Design View and thus properly renders on the web page. I invite you to try this yourself. Simply copy my properly formatted text in my original post (that can be found at "Using Design View the web page rendered this way:") to a Word file, and it will retain the complex formatting, then copy that Word file text to both Design View and 2014.1 Live View files. Please apprise me of your results.
Discussion has been had in at least two separate threads on the Design View disappearance in Fluid Grid. In https://forums.adobe.com/thread/1597260 staff member Lalita wrote "It would be helpful for us if you list the issues you are seeing with fluid grid live view editing." And in https://forums.adobe.com/message/6807088#6807088 staff member Subhadeep wrote "If you can list down the workflows you are trying while editing in Live View & the issues you are facing in doing so, it will help us understand what is amiss & suggest alternative workflows to do the same." I believe I've pointed out issues when attempting to use Live View for functions or work flow that customarily had been done in Design View.
Being a CC subscriber, if someone can provide me with a workflow using other additional Adobe products to get my complex formatted text from Word ultimately to my Dreamweaver web page, be it an image insert or whatever, I would take the suggestions.
The difference in the coding of my example in my original post is as follows.

It is readily apparent that Design View is a much needed code generator in the Dreamweaver product. Live View serves completely other, and needed, purposes. Therefore, I still, after all the forum discussions, do not understand why Design View has been removed from Fluid Grid.
Again Hans thank you for your reply. But unless I'm missing something, citation to the links you provided does not solve my problem. And that problem is this: If Design View is on its way out and thus will be completely removed from Dreamweaver at some point, then how do I provide my information (i.e. complex executive job descriptions) on my website?
Apparently a vote is taking place https://forums.adobe.com/ideas/3922 on the issue of placing Design View back into Fluid Grid. I do not understand why the need for two rather disjunctive functionalities are at the mercy of the democratic process. These are matters of engineering principles not "town hall gatherings". -
Inserting text into a Pages document with Applescript
I want to create a Pages document from a custom template but be able to insert text at various points in the document (inputted data under headings etc). I would like to use Applescript but cannot get insertion points to work, is this possible? As usual, all help gratefully accepted.
I have made a Pages template that contains tables and I want to enter text into sections of these tables
That's a completely different story! But that's still possible using GUI Scripting. Here's an example:
tell application "Pages"
activate
select table 1 of body text of front document
tell application "System Events" to tell process "Pages"
set theWindow to window 1 whose role description is "standard window"
click button "Table" of tool bar 1 of theWindow
keystroke "Cell A1"
keystroke tab
keystroke "Cell B1"
key code 125 -- down arrow
keystroke "Cell B2"
-- and so on
end tell
select insertion point after table 1 of body text of front document
end tell -
Inserting Text into a web page
I need to know how to insert text into a webpage, like google, search, and then get the result.
Using the wonders of the internet I have been able to display a webpage, and see the HTML code that is generated, however, I don't know how to insert text into a web page, or get the result.
Any help, or pointing into the right direction would be appreciated.What do you mean by insert into web page? Like
prefill data on a form?
Or like a search on google? What are you using to
do this?
I am guessing based on the info you gave in your
question, that you might want to just look at the url
of the page. For example search on google and you
will see the text entered into the search field
inside the url. Learn from that and develop a url
that will search for the text you want to insert.
If I am not understanding you, please clarify.Right now, I'm using the URL to search for me, which will work, but the search can be different from website to website, and I would like something closer to an automated form filler if I need to implement something like this again.
Of course, something like an automated form filler would probably work better, if I were able to retreve the results -
Center text in Pages to E-Pub Export.
I have been doing a bit of playing around with exporting files in Pages to e-Pub. Also through searching these forums I have found many that have had issues with getting text to remain centered in their books. What I have found is that it might be a problem with iBooks and not the export function of Pages. It seems that if I open the exported e-pubs in the free Nook app for my Mac, the centered content is retained. loading the same file in iBooks causes all centered text to be left justified. So it might be that Apple has some work to do with iBooks.

I'm new to Pages and I've searched online for an answer to this question but haven't found anything quite what I need.
When I import an image from Finder (or drag and drop from Finder) into Pages, the Text Wrap default is "automatic" which seems to be "in front of text." I have to manually click each image and then change it from "Automatic" to "Inline With Text." Is there a way to change the default so it's not "Automatic" but "Inline With Text" to save me these steps for every single image I import?
(If importing from Media Browser would behave differently, I don't use iPhoto except for Photo Stream so I need to bring them in from where I've saved them in my Finder.)
Thanks so much for any help!Good questions... I'll have to try and figure out when the problem first happened - I was thinking it was when I upgraded to Safari 5.1.4 but that might not be the case... I'll try your suggestions to see if any of them eliminate the problem (I have restarted recenlty and that didn't fix it) but I'll try repairing permissions,etc. Thanks!
hmmm... Mcbuffy: are you implying that you *don't* get the webloc when dragging an image out of Safari and that this isn't a caused by change to Safari but is a big/conflict in mine? -
