Exporting to AVI too large

I'm trying to convert a Flash file to .MOV, then take it into QuickTime Pro and export it as an .AVI file so it will play on a Windows PowerPoint file. The exported .MOV is under 2MB, but when I export the .AVI file it either hoses or grows to 280+MB. I'm not sure what compression option I need to use, but most of them seem to strip the quality a bunch. Are there any resources you can recommend that I can read up on about this? Once the file leaves Flash I'm pretty much clueless .. I need it to be clear and small if possible.

David's answer is on the mark but a bit more confusing than it has to be.
Flash files use "objects" or "elements" that are reused during playback. They need only be created once to be used over and over again. The format is also "vector" based which simply means that they also need only be created once and then scale (based on the video playback) to the size the author wishes to use.
So. A bush or a shrub can be used over and over again in the playback (changing size or shape) without adding to the total file size.
It is the entire reason for creating using the Flash format. One object, used dozens of times, doesn't make the file any larger in file size. These objects can also be used at different video ratios (for want of a better word) because they are "vector" based. They enlarge or diminish in size based on the authors control of the object. They can also have "actions" (the bounce of a ball, for example).
When you convert these vector formats to "video" you must convert each stage as a "frame". Each image (at 30 frames per second) adds to the total file size and is now "fixed" as a pixel (dot) in an image.
So. Your .swf export now becomes a very large file size and is "fixed" (no longer scales to the screen). Ugly and large.
It's not a fault of the export once you know why (and how) it happens.

  • Final cut pro : Export failed - File too large

    Hello
I'm trying to export a project in FCP 10.0.5.
It seems to work but when it reaches 45% the export stops and here's the message :
Export failed : file too large ...
    Can anyone help me please?
    Thank you,
    Fred

The file size is about right but your sampling rate is wrong.
44.1 kHz is CD Audio standard. Digital video uses 48 kHz -you can use QuickTime Player to resample:
File > Export > Sound to AIFF. Click Options and then *Audio Settings* to change the sampling rate.

  • Exports are ENTIRELY too large.

I've recorded a short (5 minute) demo, and have attempted to
"publish" it using the LOWEST settings possible. I've got all
compression turned on, BMPs at 8 bit, etc.
When I export the file, I STILL have 20 megs of video and
require 69kbps to view it. This is completely unacceptable. I could
have done better than this with full-motion video and the windows
media 9 codec in an AVI. The whole point of using Captivate was to
create training videos we could stream online.
I noticed that captivate's "backgrounds" of the slides were
being stored in BMPs, and that there was no method within captivate
for checking to see if two backgrounds were identical. I started
exporting the BMPs, converting them to JPGs, and then importing
them back into captivate, and setting them as the backgrounds.
After a lot of wasted effort, I saw that Captivate was converting
    them BACK into BMPs.
NOW I'm exporting each BMP for each slide, converting it to
JPG, importing it into the library, setting it as an "object" in
the scene, then ordering it with "send to back" to emulate the
background. Also, I'm looking for duplicate slides to delete
    duplicates.
Honestly, I'm finding that this would have been 100x easier
to have manually put together in Flash. Has anyone else run into
these problems, and found a way to actually use Captivate the way
they claim it can be used? 20 megs for 4:47 is ridiculous.
    -Javin

    > The BMP backgrounds are over 320 megs.
Sounds like these are not files that were captured by
    Captivate, hence they
    are uncompressed bitmaps.
    > After compression, that means the BMP
    > backgrounds are still 15 megs, assuming the audio/video
    aren't compressed
    > at
    > all. I can compress the BMPs to about 5 megs by making
    them JPGs.
If you imported these bitmaps, then - for your next project,
    not this one
:-) - I'd suggest some quick tests to the effect of:-
1 - try loss-less compression on the bitmaps. RLE is pretty
    good. But most
likely if this makes no sense to you then you may not have
    the tools to try
    this ... :-/
2 - Try saving your bitmaps as PNG instead of BMP. By
    default, no
compression of any sort is applied to bitmaps, but PNG should
    be able to
save as a similar size to an RLE-compressed bitmap.
3 - And try Gif format files too.
Lastly - should have asked this first - what exactly are your
    bitmaps? If
they are fairly flat colours - like screen grabs, where there
    are large
elements of the same colour - then the above should be
    effective. If, on the
other hand, they are photographic images - people, trees,
    flowers where
there is a lot of colour and detail - then maybe the above
    won't help.

  • Export PDF size too large

    Hello all,
Did a sponsors book up recently with 11 A4 pages full of photos and transperancies.
When it came time to export to pdf so the customer could email it to protential supporters I could not get it to export at lower then 5mb
After trying a few things I finished up coping all the photos and transperancies to photoshop, flattening it there then saving that as a 72ppi jpg.
Then placed that back in indesign under the text and logos re exported the file and it came out as a 1.6mb file YAY!
    Question:
Is there an easier way to do this without having to resave the images and transperancies.

    Hello Bob,
PDF settings where Smallest File Size default settings.
I did run the pdf through optimizer with no real change.
    Downsampling was set to 72
When I change Image Quality to LOW some of the photos where very pixelated.
    Hello Peter,
The intended use is so the customer can send out bulk emails to potential sponsors so keeping the size down was what they asked for.
But every time I edited the photos down the photos started looking bad and there was no point sending that out.
Copying all photos and transparencies into photoshop kept thing looking sharp but was time consuming to do.

  • Export to AVI file too large! The secret setting to smaller AVI files is?

The recent death of a internationally respect friend has put me in a position of creating a memorial video for an upcoming event—and it should have been finished 2 days ago! So I'm pressed for time.
The problem is the display format: a large digital picture frame that also shows stereo video, but only in AVI format. We've tried .mov, .mpeg, .divx, .wmv, .vcl, .mpg1 to 4... Nope. It's got to be .avi or the picture frame balks. (Really, any .avi movie plays fine and no other format works.)
So I've taken the 5-minute memorial video, exported it as AVI and it comes out okay—except the smallest file size I can get is over 1.12GB! Whew! By comaprison, exporting to DIVX would get it down to around 100MB with decent quality. But 1.12GB is simply too huge for such a short video.
What's the correct export in FCE for lowest possible AVI yet still have good video?

Note: All video was transferred from a Panasonic NV-GS250 digital tape camera. It's 5 years old.
I've played with three codecs and the lowest file size I can achieve is roughly 400Mb in Cinepak Low Quality at 25fps, but regardless of the Cinepak setting (very low or very high) the picture quality is awful and washy, colors pixelate and come and go—and it doesn't matter if the video is showing still images or motion. Not useful at all. The colors are "millions" and changing that to 256 immediately shoots the file(s) up to over 12GB! (Yet I'd think it should be the other way around.)
Cinepak, DV-PAL, and DVCPRO-PAL are the three compressions I've tried, and the PALs convert with good picture quality and good sound to a minimum 1.2GB all the way up to over 20GB for a 5-minute video; Interlaced or Progressive doesn't reduce anything; of these None is the lowest. I +haven't tired+ DVCPRO50-PAL and neither any NTSC compressions (because I live in Germany). But this is for a digital picture frame—that I cannot change and for some weird reason will only support AVI—and it's not a T.V., rather it's no different that any modern flatscreen computer display. So how should PAL or NTSC make a difference?
Sound compression has been tried at ALaw 2:1 and µLaw 2:1, but they also seem to keep the overall file size too large. So I've been working more with None. Using 8 bit actually increases file size over 16 bit, and I've noticed little difference between mono or stereo.
I've worked with FCE for nearly 2 years and have never had such a headache over file sizes. But now I've met my match with AVI.

  • FCE export too large

A 23:19;05 video results in a 15 Gb Quicktime movie. This file size is too large for the scope of the project, which is to produce DVD videos from weekly messages approximately 15-30 minutes in length. Details of the process I am following are below. I am using:
iMac 3.2 GHz Intel Core i3, 8 GB RAM
    OX 10.6.7
    FCE 4.0.1
    iDVD 7.1.1 (1150)
I use the log and transfer option to import video from a Panasonic HDC-TM60 camera (set to HX-1920 record mode), set in and out markers on the clip and then "add clip to queue." When the clip is finished transferring I save the project then export to Quicktime Movie. The result for the above mentioned 23:19;05 video was a 15 GB .mov file. This is problematic and time consuming when using iDVD to burn to disk.  I have read the help file in FCE trying to figure out compression but did not find anything I understood in the "Sequence | Settings" menu it pointed me to. The end use of the video is personal TV widescreen format. What am I missing that is resulting in such large files?
What settings in this process from the recording to the burning would be better to reduce file size and also cut down on the elapsed time it takes to complete making a single video into a DVD.
Thanks in advance for sharing your knowledge.
    Carl

Hi My two thoughts (may be irrilevant)
    A. iDVD doesn't care about Gbs at all - got movies of 500Mb that are to large and 50Gbs that fit nicely.
    iDVD 08, 09 & 11 has three levels of qualities. (vers 7.0.1, 7,0.4 & 7.1.1)
iDVD 6 has the two last ones
    • Professional Quality (movies + menus up to 120 min.) - BEST
    • Best Performances (movies + menus  less than 60 min.) - High quality on final DVD
    • High Quality (in iDVD08 or 09) / Best Quality (in iDVD6) (movies + menus up to 120 min.) - slightly lower quality than above
    About double on DL DVDs.
    B. FCE/P to iDVD
    Several things
    • How to go from FCE/P to iDVD
    • Free space on Start-up hard disk
    • Encoding
    • Brand and type of DVDs used
    • Burn speed set
    • iDVD BUG
    • Chapters
How to go from FCE/P to iDVD I do
    • Disable Screen and Energy saver
    • IMPORTANT --> FIRST in FinalCut - Mix Down Audio under Sequence Menu / Render Only / Mixdown
    • Export out as a QuickTime .mov file
    • Select with Mark - Chapter Mark
    • Not as Self-Contained (not important but saves time and space)
    • NO QUICKTIME CONVERSION (IMPORTANT)
This QT.mov file I import into iDVD from within iDVD.
Free space on Start-up hard disk
I set a minimum of 25GB (for Mac OS and iDVDs temp files)
    Encoding
    • I use Pro Quality encoding
Brand and type of DVDs used
    • I use Verbatim
    • I use DVD-R
    Burn speed set
    • I set down this to x4 (or x1)
    iDVD BUG
    • One can not go back to movie-project for any alterations and then go back to
the iDVD project. It will notice and ask You to either Up-date or Cancel. Neither
    of them will work.
Medicine - Start a brand new iDVD project.
    Use of Chapters
    • I only use a to z and 0 to 9 in naming them. NO other symbol/letter !
    • NO Chapter-mark at very beginning - iDVD NEEDS TO set this by it stlf
    • No Chapter marks in or within two seconds from a transition
(Way around this last one - Export movie as QT full quality and NO Chapter marks
Import this into a new Movie-project and now You are free to set C-Ms where You want
them except at very beginning - still)
    Material used to build movie
    • video - I use streamingDV (or convert all other to this eg .mp4, .avi, .wmv etc)
    • audio - I use .aiff 16-bit 48kHz or from Audio-CD (44.1kHz) - no .mp3 or direct from iTunes
    • photos - I use .jpg - no .bmp etc
Trash iDVD pref file and run Repair Permissions - and have a re-try.
    from post ??
May not be relevant, but I had the same problem with iDVD, where burned DVDs showed a green screen. It was cured by quitting Quicksilver and Quickeys as well as disabling sleep and screensaving

  • Exporting File too large

I am unable to export my project from final cut pro to my personal youtube or vimeo because a message appears stating it timed out or it is too large. The project is 20 minutes long.
I am able to save the project on a DVD but then my client is unable to upload the project to her business youtube account or save it to upload on her website. Is there a specific setting or program I need to do this? I looked at Compressor but from the reviews, it doesn't seem like that will help.
    Thanks-Dallal

I thought you could upload 2GB / 15 minutes unless you had some sort of corporate account, or has that changed?

In Indesign CS6 I export an artboard to  TIFF with the sdk's funtion SnapshotUtilsEx->ExportImageToTIFF(iStream) and, the resulting file is one pixel too large in the X, leaving a transparent strip on one edge. Any idea if there is a bug in the sdk?

An easy example to prove this bug of Indesing CS6:  I create a psd with Photoshop CS6, with width 505 pixels, height 317 pixels and a resolution of 300 pixels per inch. This psd is placed on a page in InDesign CS6. Then I try to export it as a tiff with the functions:
    fSnapshotUtilsEx->Draw(flags,fullResolutionGraphics,greekBelowPtSize,enableAntiAliasing,tr ansparencyQuality,abortCheck,pVPAttrMap,bDrawNonPrintingObjects);
    and
    SnapshotUtilsEx-> ExportImageToTIFF (iStream)
The resulting tiff has a width of 506 pixels (one pixel more in width). It will happen the same if we start with a width of 507 pixels, etc.
This error does not occur with Indesign CS5, nor Indesing CC.

    Good day Colin,
In order to split a PDF file, you'll need to use Adobe Acrobat.
You may want to try turning off the 'Recognize text' option and converting your file again, it may help.

To view your folio on your iPad you have two choices:
1 - If you built your folio offline on your local machine, choose the upload option from the Folio Builder fly out menu. All folios that were built online and any you uploaded are available for you to download when you log into ACV on your iPad.
2 - This is a MAC only option. Plug your iPad into your computer via the USB cable. With the iPad turned on and ACV opened you will see a Preview on [iPad Name] from the preview menu in folio builder.
I tested both of the supplied files after publishing them for the web from Edge and placing the html files in a web overlay. I previewed on both the desktop viewer and my iPad. Both worked as expected on the iPad. The Jams worked in a desktop preview but your logo just showed a red box. The white background is removed by selecting the transparent background option in the Overlay panel.
As Bob said, the desktop previewer is not 100% reliable. It is used for quick, down and dirty checking. It's always pest to preview on a device if something does not work as expected.
If it helps, I will share my test folio with you. Message me you email address.

  • File video dimensions (width/height) too large, importing AVI

I'm testing Windows 7RC and Adobe Production Premium CS4. Both CS4 and Windows are fully updated with all updates available through today. Premiere Pro CS4 is at 4.1.0.
I have hundreds and hundreds of AVI files captured from tape and from memory cards created by the capture process in Adobe Premiere Pro 1.5.1.  if I create a new project, HDV 1080i (60i) and try to import my AVI files I get the error message about 'file video dimensions (width/height) too large'. These files were created with the Cineform HD codec that came with 1.5.1. I have the CFHD codec "CineForm 10-bit-visually Perfect HD" loaded on this computer, and G-spot verifies that and can render and play the avi files. Since these are from HDV their actual dimensions are 1440x1080. I've also tried to import standard def AVI files with the same result.
I just picked a few random projects to attempt to open, and none of them will open. Not SD not HDV. I get the 'too large' message.
    Suggestions?
    Hawkeye

Throwing out wild guess here, but I think things changed with the way Premiere handled HDV with 2.0, at which point it went 'native' - meaning it no longer uses the Cineform codec.  I wonder if it's possible the two versions just don't mix, despite the Cineform codec being installed.

  • Exporting from HTML DB 1.4 to 2.0 - "Program too large (Diana nodes)"

    Hi
I exported an HTML DB 1.4. into a script and got an error while trying to execute it.
The script itself is over 800 kb and consists of 25 000 lines. However, it is divided into begin-end blocks.
If I start the script in HTML DB 2.0 I get an error:
    "Program too large (Diana nodes)"

Sorry, it should have been HTML DB 1.4 <b>application</b>.
The application causing this problem has also a page with about 200 items, so I hope that after I have splitted this problematic page into multiple pages, this "program too large" problem would also solve.

  • I need to export (to doc format) just a few select pages from various parts of a PDF file that is too large to convert in its entirety

I already paid for the service, but I can't seem to do the above.
If I upload the entire thing the process fails, saying the file is too large...

I would suggest using an outside product, such as PDF Splitter (FoxyUtils SplitPDF - Split PDF Files Online for Free), or just open up the document in Chrome, and print from your desired start to end page as a PDF. Then try uploading the file.
There is no internal workaround available in Acrobat.com yet, as after all, it is still in its beginning stages, unlike the Acrobat desktop application.
Wouldn't be a bad suggestion, I guess, though, for an improvement to make for a future version.
