Exporting to different frame dimensions

I imported a couple of .mov files of 3D flythroughs made with SketchUp to dimensions 1200 x 900 into iMovie HD 6.0.3. I stitched these together in IMovie. No problem - the length is only about 1 minute. When I, however, export to full quality the frame size (and the quality) is reduced. What settings can I use in Expert Settings to get my movie to have the same dimensions? I tried setting the size in Expert Settings, but the time it takes to export is immense - just kept climbing... I want to use the movie on an overhead projector. What are the default settings for "full quality"? I don't want to change any other parameters - only the size.

you did allready..
on IMPORT iM converts into TV-dimensions, 720x480 (NTSC), 768x576 (PAL), 1280x720 and 1920x1080...
'full quality' exports the timeline in the settings, you did choose on 'New Project'... s.a.

Exporting in a Different Frame?

Hello,
I am using Flash CS3, and creating a game in AS2. Is there a way I can make a movieclip export in another frame other than 1st? Such as frame 3? I had to uncheck all of the movieclips exporting in frame 1, but now they don't work. Is it possible to export them in Frame 3?

Help with sequence settings in final cut for project with 2 different frame rates.

I really need help with this one! I finished editing a wedding video and realized after exporting that it was filmed in two different frame rates. This has happened before but I converted the footage to match and fixed the problem. In this case, the footage is part 30fps and part 60fps. The majority of it was filmed in 30fps. I cannot convert the 60 to 30 without the slow motion effect which I do not need so I have to find a way to burn this to a DVD without it looking messed up! The video was shot with two Canon 7ds if that helps anything. The first sequence I set at 29.97 and exported as a quicktime movie and all the footage filmed in 60 looked perfect and the footage in 30 looked jittery. Then I tried the sequence at 59.97 and it switched. The footage filmed at 30 looked good and the 60 was cropped in. I am so confused! Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks for your help Michael! The frame rates are 29.97 1920 x 1080 and 59.94 1280 x 720. I did a control click on the clips in final cut and viewed the item properties/format to find this info. The Canon 7d is a DSLR but we use it for video. As for my workflow, the first thing I do is import the footage onto my computer and then drag the clips into mpeg streamclip. I choose apple prores 422 and uncheck the interlaced box. Once this is done I import the .mov files into final cut. The sequence automatically sets itself to whatever clip I drag in first so it originally set as 29.97. When I finished editing wedding video, I export it to a quicktime movie and choose whatever settings match the sequence, in this case apple prores 422 1920 x 1080 30p. Once that is done I use iDVD to burn the discs.
I knew something was wrong when I watched the quicktime movie and all the 30fps footage was jittery and most of the cross dissolves looked strange. That's when I figured out the footage was at two different frame rates. What I don't understand is why whatever the sequence is set at in final cut, the clips of the opposite frame rate look right but the clips set at the matching frame rate don't???

Different frame rate encoding on tape (24p & 24pa)

Hi,
I usually record to tape with my dvx100 using 24pa, but sometimes the quick setup dial was switched accidentally resulting in a different frame encoding, like 24p for example.
Everything is recorded in 29.97fps on mini-dv, we all know that, making apparently no difference b/w 24p and 24pa.
But of course, when i'm trying to capture this footage through FCP, i can't always remove the advanced pulldown because there's a few clips that have been recorded with 24p instead of 24pa.
Questions:
- How can you detect the different encoding on tape, whether it's 24p or 24pa?
- Can you get FCP to create a new clip (at least stop) the capture for those sections of the tape where I have something different than 24pa?
- If nothing like that is possible, how do you solve this problem?

the only pulldown pattern that FCP can remove at capture is 24pA (3:2:2:3). Standard 3:2 pulldown can only be reversed using cinema tools. If you open the clip in cinema tools, you'll need to park the playhead on the first frame of the pulldown cadence for it to correctly remove the pulldown. This will create new copies of your clips, which will take up a corresponding amount of space. There is no way for either FCP or CT to reconize the pulldown cadence of standard 3:2 clips, so you'll have to manually find the A frame of the cadence. If you have a huge number of them to do, you may find it quicker to place each clip in a sequence where you can put the A frame of the cadence as the first frame in the sequence. Export these as a batch of reference movies, and you should be able to do a batch inverse telecine on them in Cinema Tools.
These new clips will no longer match the timecode of your tapes, so if you remove the original 29.97 media, you should at least keep the offline 29.97 clips in your project in case you need to recapture.

Export Quicktime = stalling / frame rate / dropped frames

Firstly this issue isn't news. It appears it has existed since 2002 at least on these forums and Apple has done nothing.
Exporting to Quicktime:
1) Keynote makes up what seem to be consistent random frame rates on export
- Codec doesn't matter. Photo JPG, Intermediate, 8bit 422, H264
- You can set the frame rate in export / custom / settings it doesn't matter
- Having no video on a slide or having video on a slide doesn't change the problem...
- The last two items do have more information to complete their story
- If you do have a video on slide at say 25fps and export (at same rate) the random will stabilise
but it will stabilise to something bizarre, such as 23.69.
- So Keynote can wreck your frame rate it will drop frames, or even add frames while dropping
others. It is deeply sophisticated in how it destroys stuff on export.
Result
- is a stuttering output if embed video on a slide with a wrecked frame rate
- and a random frame rate if you don't have a video embed
2) The video stalls between slides
- Keynote seems to play a trick by making a single frame span multiple frames
- At the start of the first slide this seems to vary. The first frame can be between 7 and 33
frames depending on some strange internal logic only known to Keynote
- Between slides it will hold the last frame of the exiting slide usually for 7 frames and hold
the first frame of the entering slide for usually the same amount.
- No amount of change to settings such as transition delay, adding a transition, self play etc
will effect this stalling from what I can tell.
- You can analyse the reality of the issue by dropping the resulting file into Quicktime 7 and
changing the video window "time code" display to frames by clicking on it and single framing
through the video. I have Quicktime Pro for the record.
Notes:
- I have every update installed and am running 10.6.2
- I have tried it on two machines, one a clean build, server or client
- Playing the presentation direct in Keynote does not present any of the noted issues
- I have spent the better part of two weeks on the issue trying all sorts of combinations
- Video of different frames rates, sizes, codecs. All useless, don't bother.
Outcome:
- Keynote is completely useless unless you just want to play a presentation in it
- Dropped frames, stuttering video, stalling, mangled frame rates, fake frames
Solutions that aren't:
- One suggestion for video embeds is to enter a strange custom frame rate. For example a
24fps original turns into a 23.69 export, if you up the frame rate to 24.3 the resulting export
is 24fps.
This is a truly hit and miss affair and will require a lot of testing to nail it. Unfortunately I
tested the resulting video frame count in Quicktime against the original video and...
The amount of frames is not the same. Part of my assumption is that the stalled pad frames
are being considered by Keynote and it drops some frames to fake the same length, that at
least -seems- to be part of the result, but it doesn't account for all the lost frames.
- I have also tried just having one slide and exporting that. The same things happen regardless
How Al Gore managed to make "inconvenient truth" using Keynote is a complete mystery. Maybe on Tiger with some old version it used to work, yet from the forums it would appear it has never worked. This piece of software is a clear case of "it just doesn't work"
I hope you find this and stop hurting yourself trying to make this. I might hurt on a bit longer yet.

I can't answer in detail (I started with version 6, which I haven't used in years, so don't know what v5 did) but... a general comment
Software that old is very likely going to struggle trying to edit a VOB/MPG file copies from a DVD
If you are digitizing by playing the DVD through a conversion device you should end up with DV AVI which should edit well

Exporting movies in iPhoto using 'Current' Setting, exports the first frame only

Hi,
When I export my iPhoto library into separate events using the 'Current' Setting, it exports all video / movie files as the original file type with a single frame in it.
I don't want to go through each event and drag and drop each video to the exported folder as that would be an enormous pain. Does anyone have ideas to fix this? I have edited some photos, so I don't want to export as 'original' if possible

iPhoto has the latest updates installed and the original videos play perfectly in iPhoto.

Yeah, I have upgraded from previous iPhoto versions, some videos are a few years old (.MOV iPhone format) and some are only a few months old (Canon EOS .MOV format), both export only first frame. I might have to recreate my iPhoto library and start fresh! Currently I am exporting as 'Original' and 'Current' to two different folders, and just grabbing the videos from the original and replacing the videos in the 'Current' folder.
LarryHN's solution works well, but when I add a second condition to select a specific event, I can't choose from a list of specific events (unlike albums). Entering in the event title (in the Event condition) sometimes adds videos from silmilar titled events.

Trouble exporting non-standard frame size

So I have to deliver a Quicktime that's 210w x 190h that will eventually be compressed for web posting. The source footage is DV/NTSC (720x480). I cut my initial sequence at those specs and then nested that into a 210x190 sequence and resized the nest to fit, maintaining aspect ratio (i.e. sides were cropped). But whenever I export to QT, the frame size is stretched horizontally when viewed on a computer monitor. I've tried exporting that sequence "with current settings", set the sequence to square pixels, exported as Animation or "none", exported using Compressor with every conceivable combination....all to no avail. They all spit out the same problem.
Am I missing something?

Thanks Tom, you clarified it ....... or at least something clicked in my brain.
I was trying to set "Custom" when I created the new project.
I didn't know, or had forgotten, that in the "error" window I could select "Custom".
All is now well and FCP X 10.1.1 is pretty clever after all!
There is one weird thing I'd like to mention.
When I clicked on "Custom" the 960 x 600 frame dimensions appeared but the frame rate was listed as 23.98p as shown in the screenshot below.
So what's wrong with that?
Well the clip is 30p and I naturally thought I was going to end up with a project with an incorrect frame rate.
Now here's the funny thing ......... when I selected the project and viewed it in the Inspector it was the correct 30p
So why was I given that worrying piece of misinformation.

EXPORT CLASSES IN FRAME 2 PROBLEM

Hi to all, i am having a problem trying to do a simple preloader.
i am making a game, only 2 frames, the first is preloader screen, the second is the game (all in actionscript):
if i set EXPORT CLASSES IN FRAME 2, after the game is preloaded ( this.loaderInfo.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, onComplete)
i execute gotoAndStop(2).
all ok.
but i see that some creatures (movieclips) DOESNT SHOW. those creature are there, all works fine, but simply are not visible!!! this happen also with some textbox......
i trace (creature.visible)... and // give :    true
also   trace(creature).... // give:   object[creature]       all ok here...
also properties works fine      trace(creature.attack); // gives the right value, is all ok.....
if i set EXPORT CLASSES IN FRAME 1... all works fine (but not the preloader, that doesnt load. simply a white screen of course, until all is loaded, then the frame 1 instantly execute gotoAndStop(2), starting the game)
i dont understand, what happen to movieclips when i export in frame 2? (not at ALL, something is visible... something not.... ))))

Yes, are all unchecked
. only "export in actionscript" is checked, but others are all unchecked.
i have tried both, checked and unchecked.
but... if i have Exactly the same creature, added for 2 different players... the first player has all creatures ok.
the second not.....
the second will not show his creatures (0 shown, no matter what)
if i change the Exportclasses in frame 1... then all goes perfect, all players have shown all correct.... i dont understand why.
i also have prolems with some textbox that doesnt show if i set Exportclasses in frame 2.....

Two timecode stripes at different frame rates? (and other BITC stuff)

I'm not an FCP user, but I'm working with an editor who's not that up on the finer points of FCP operation. Would like to know if certain things are possible...
1a. Is it possible for FCP to simultaneously output a QT file with two different BITC stripes running at different frame rates (say, 29.97 fps and 23.976fps)? Or...
1b. For an already BITC'd work print (striped with 23.976 timecode) is it possible to add a second stripe at 29.97 fps, synchronized from the 1-hour mark (first frame of picture)?
2. Are there any parameters available in FCP to adjust the size of the numbers and the position of a timecode stripe?
3. BONUS QUESTION: what does the "R" in "TCR" mean? (just curious -- I've seen this for years but never knew what the "R" stood for).

3. R stand for Reader. TimeCodeReader. G will stand for Generator. TimeCodeGenerator
2. You mean adjust the TCR window? If you drop the filter on a clip, load that clip into the viewer, you can adjust the filter parameters there.
1b. BITC? There are 2 type of timecode that I'm aware of: VTC (or ViTC)(Vertical Interval Timecode) and LTC (Longitudinal Timecode). I seriously doubt this as then FCP would have to use to different timebases within the same sequence.
1a. Again, I seriously doubt this do to the different timebases.
You could print to tape this 23.976 fps sequence which FCP would add the pulldown resulting in 29.97 fps timecode and then import that. Or, maybe Compressor can add the pulldown and export a file wtih 29.97 fps timecode. Don't know, never needed to try that.

Re-connecting media to different frame rate clip

Hi guys,
Wondering whether anyone can help me out to solve an error I've made...
So, I've basically completed an edit (some episodes on Final Cut Pro X, some on Final Cut 7) only to find out that I'd transcoded the media at the incorrect frame rate, 23.98 instead of 25fps. Yup, pretty big error. And now I need to redeliver the projects in the 25fps format.
I've transcoded a clip to the correct 25fps rate and tried to reconnect that clip to the 23.98fps one in the timeline, but I'm unable to reconnect as the clips are of differing frame rates.
Has anyone got any ideas how I can reconnect the clips or any suggestions that will make this situation easier to rectify rather than copying out the entire edit which will cause me to spend a week crying into my keyboard.

Hmmm...
Tried this but it brings in the media that is 23.98 and there's no way I can tell to link to the new 25fps clips. Unless there's anything else I can do? Any other way to match the clips? (the 25fps clips are that little bit longer in duration) I also have some edits in fcp7. By using cinema tools in that would I be able to change the frame rates and link up to the new 25fps?
Cheers for the advice though Russ, this way does give me the template of the 23.98 edit so that I can match the new 25fps shots to, but it's gonna be a long process.

Relink project clips with different frame rate

Somehow the clips in my project sequence ended up with a different frame rate (25) than the original media files (23.95), and they are no longer linked -- maybe this happened during import from iMovie. When I try to relink project files to source media, I get an error message saying they cannot be relinked because they have a different frame rate. I changed the sequence framerate to 23.95 (by creating a new project with 23.95 as the frame rate, then copying and pasting the other timeline into it), but all the clips remain at 25, so the problem remains.
How can I change the clip properties to frame rate 23.95 so I can link to the original media?

Creating new buttons on different frame labels

can someone tell me if im doing something wrong or assigning
the as to the wrong frame?
first off i have all my buttons on frame 2. im creating a
real estate site and i have to have a couple links like HOME ABOUT
BUYING SELLING CONTACT, the thing though is that in the BUYING and
SELLING frames i want to add more sections and links but only on
these 2 other parts of my site. when i code it and add new buttons
to these sections though my movie plays over and over and over non
stop. heres my coding...
FRAME 1 preloader
Frame 2 has a frame label of home and all the buttons on a
diff layer, and AS3 on a different layer
Frame 3 has a frame label for about section
Frame 4 is my contact for example
so if i create a new button in the about frame label and just
add the code to the working as3 code on frame 2 my movie just plays
over and over and over again, and all i want it do do is act like
the other buttons and go to a different frame label down in the
time line. the only way i get it to work is if i have ALL my
buttons on frame 2.

correct.
there are lots of ways around it. but they all require the
object to exist when the code executes.
with as3 it's particularly easy to create objects, code for
them and then add them to the display list later when
needed.

Different frame rate in movie mode? iPhone 4

I noticed that my iPhone shoots video clips with different frame rate from time to time. I suppose it slows frame rate on dark shots. For now all of my daylight shots are 30 fps, while night or dark ones are 25 and 24. This makes it hard to edit clips in iMovie for example, because difference in frame rate causes strobe motion effect on output.

For reliable results I would suggest to shoot two clips: one in sunny daylight conditions, another with ordinary room lightning, maybe a little darker than normal.

How can I interact between two different frames in the same indesign template as well as from one template to another.

I am looking for the best way (or any way) to interact between two different frames in the same indesign template as well as from one template to another. It's for a DPS app which needs to carry some button initiated data from one page to another and then present it in a table.

There is no simple way to do it, as itunes wont let you use it on another computer without wiping the contents first.
However if you really want to transfer songs to another computer then you could try this;
* make sure that your ipod is accessible as a disk drive (ipod options)
* when you plug your ipod into the computer you want to transfer to make sure you select "no" or "cancel" when it asks to wipe the contents. Leave the ipod connected and quit from itunes.
* go to "my computer" and access the ipod directly. You probably have to select "view hidden files" from windows. You will see a lot of folders with odd names like ZX838aff with similar named files inside.
* copy these files to a folder on your computers hardrive. Now remove the ipod and start itunes.
* import the files from the folder you made in the last step.
* Now your music is on itunes, but with unrecogisable names.
This is the only way I have found to do it, but there may be another way, say with an application to do the hard work for you.

I do not have much experience on Adobe Flash or Action Script 3, but I know the basics.
I am Arabic language teacher, and I design an application to teach Arabic, I just would like to learn how to load and unload more than one external swf files in different frames.

Look into using the Loader class to load the swf files. If you want to have it happen in different frames then you can put the code into the different frames.
