Exporting to DV PAL

Hello, I need help.
I have final cut express 4 and I am also using Livetipe. When I export a project in full quality the text rendered in the final output file looks really not good. Using the H. 264 compression the text comes out perfect, however if I use the option of exporting in a shelf contained movie the text comes out blurry, fuzzy and not with straight lines, does anyone knows why is this? the same happens when I export it in DV PAL. I thought this were uncompress formats.

Hi(Bonjour)!
FCE is designed to produce TV set content (in PAL, NTSC or HDV). All those format are compressed and you have to monitor your output on a such TV set to judge the quality.
You can export to quicktime (the result is a Final Cut Express movie in the same format as your sequence (remember you can only produce PAL, NTSC or HDV sequences).
You can also export to quicktime CONVERSION to any quicktime codec (like H.264) in any frame size. So if you want to produce a good looking movie for computer use, try to export to h.264 at half the frame size. The result will be acceptable on computer screen.

  • Exporting a DV PAL Timeline as Apple Pro Res 422.......Any Advantages????

    Hello
Apart from the file space you save are there any quality advantages in exporting a DV PAL sequence to Pro Res 422? Some of my students are convinced that it looks better and plays better on their monitors.
I'm thinking that their final output will be DVD so will DVD Studio Pro allow you to import Pro Res 422? Is there any point being that the final sequence is going to be re-encoded to MPEG?
I'm yet to test things myself so any pointer would be great.
One particular student says that their QT sequence looks grainy in QT player where as Pro Res looks GREAT!!!
    Thanks

QT plays DV files at low quality by default. You can change it to high quality playback in movie properties: Apple + J.
You will not *add quality* transcoding the movie from one format to another. For DVD use you'll get the most of the quality exporting to MPEG2 using Compressor directly from your timeline with any extra transcoding in the middle.
    Hope that helps !

  • Iphoto exporting photo looks pale on iphone

Hi people, I'm trying to export some photos from iphoto and copy them to my new iphone 6. The problem is the exported files look great on my rmbp, but when I copied them to iphone 6, the photos look so pale and dull. I know this is not a problem of my phone because if I use my phone to take the same picture, the color looks good as well. So what did I do wrong? Some color settings? Please help, thanks!

, but when I copied them to iphone 6,
How were you getting the photos onto your iPhone by copying them?

  • Field order issues after export to DV Pal from uncompressed

We are experiencing some difficulty exporting clips from FCP to our Omneon Server for TX.
We are capturing 8 bit uncompressed (AJA and Blackmagic) from digibeta for our edit and all editing stays in uncompressed until final output. Our transmission system demands DV PAL files so we export finished items as DV PAL in FCP and drop onto the server
Our problem is that on playback from the server, the field order is incorrect. Although the exported DV clips properties show lower field order, the clip is obviously playing upper field first. If we capture and edit in DV and export the DV file to the server, then we have no problems. I have tried
exporting uncompressed clips to DV via Compressor and changing the field order in frame controls but no success. It seems that when a clip is captured and edited in upper field it hangs onto that status even after conversion to DV!! Any thoughts greatly appreciated!

when you drop one of your 8 bit uncompressed source clips into your DV PAL timeline, is FCP correctly adding the Shift Fields filer to those timeline instances?
do you edit in 8-bit uncompressed and then export direct to DV PAL or do you nest your 8 bit uncompressed sequence into a DV PAL sequence first and then export as Quicktime Movie w/ current settings? if not the latter, try it (and make sure your nest has the Shift Fields filter applied)

  • Sequence in PAL, exported file in PAL, Toast says: this is NTSC.

    Hi
I do not understand. The sequence I work with in FCP is in DV-PAL 25fps. I export it as a "current setting" .mov file and when I drag it in TOAST it says: "NTSC material, you need to encode it in PAL".
    Do you know why?
    Thanks
    Alex

Open your exported movie in QuickTime Player.
Press command and i keys to get the Inspector window. Tell us what it says there.

  • Exporting to tape PAL problem

    Hi all.
I am trying to export a timeline to tape from premiere pro CS4 to my Canon XL-2 camera.
The timeline settings are DV PAL, 25 fps, 16:9 aspect ratio, lower field first. I live in Australia and therefore have a PAL camera.
These are the settings that I used when using CS3 and exporting to tape was fine. The export process seems to run fine but when I review the tape there is nothing but black.
Premiere pro can control and capture from my camera fine, but when I try exporting it seems to show that it is working but results in nothing being taped.
I am running windows vista 64 bit, 4GB ram with a q6600 processor.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
    Regards.

    PROBLEM RESOLVED:
By fiddling with the device control properties the problem was resolved. Though I am not sure which setting corrected the problem, it may have been changing the device type from generic to canon XL1S (which is very similar to the XL-2).

  • Export or convert PAL footage to NTSC

Hi, I have edited some PAL footage and now need to convert to NTSC. I have exported NTSC via Compressor but the footage looks "jumpy" not smooth. Is there a "best" way to do this? Should I export first then convert? Your experience would be appreciated. Thanks.

Graeme Nattress has a standards conversion filter that is well regarded.
you can find it on his web site: www.nattress.com
Be aware that you may see some drop in quality going to NTSC from PAL. PAL just has more information in the frame.
    Good luck.

  • Quicktime export to DV-PAL 25 fps not working

Can anyone help with this topic? [http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=6406820#6406820]
Cannot seem to export to 25fps DV-PAL and import to FCP for editing. Keeps saving as 29.97fps and putting my audio out of sync in editing.
    Please help!!

i used MPEG STREAMCLIP to convert and this has worked perfectly, guess it is too much to ask that QT Pro (which I have paid money for) do that job itself.

  • HDV1080i export to dv pal

I am trying to export a hdv 1080i fcp timeline so it can be used for a sd dvd in dvdsp. If I export h264, either with compressor on in fcp self, it becomes square and the picture looks squeezed. If i make it a normal quicktime with dv settings it becomes squeezed as well.
I also tried to make a timeline in dv pal and fitted the hdv material in. In fcp it looks great, but when I export normal quicktime, the quality goes down.
I dont know what to do. I tried a lot of settings. can some one please help me?
    Yours,
    Bart

    Simply select File>Export>Using Compressor.
In Compressor choose "DVD Best Quality 90 minutes" or any of the other DVD settings you prefer.
Do NOT choose any other setting such as h264 etc.
Then import the encoded files into DVDSP, create any menus etc. you want and click the burn button.

  • Quicktime Pro 7.6 Export to DV PAL size Bug?

I'm trying to export videos to Quicktime DV PAL format with a small size (ideally 320*240), but everytime I try, I get a video that has a resolution of 1024*576
I think this might be a bug with Quicktime 7.6, as I can do this export/resize fine on Quicktime 7.2.1 on my old G5
I double checked all the settings, the OS is the same on both machines. I tried on Intel MAC and PowerPC, and the Quicktime version seems to be the only different thing...
Has anyone had the same problem?
Am I right in thinking this is a bug that was not present in earlier versions of Quicktime 7?

    Hi,
our source files are most of the time MP4, and sometimes Mov H264.
We need them to be DV Pal so they can be output through a firewire canopus box to work on sound to picture in Logic Pro 8 and Protools.
The canopus box will only output video in conjuction with our DAW if the video file is DV PAL AND an anamorphic dimension.
If you have any idea, please let me know.
But I've tried to apply the conversion on 3 macs (2 Intel Macs running OSX 10.5 and QT 7.6 and one old Powerbook running OSX 10.4.11 and QT 7.6), and in each case the dimension of the output file was wrong (not the one requested).
Then tested the exact same settings on an old PowerMac Dual G5, running OSX 10.5 and QT 7.2, and that worked fine....
    Any idea?

  • Exporting 16:9 PAL to quicktime

I have a 16:9 (anamorphic) project and my sequence is 16:9 but when I export (quicktime movie) it turns out as 4:3 and the image is pulled.
This is to be published on the internet and I want it to be 16:9 for the viewer how do I set it up to get it exported properly?

Found the same question on the board

  • How to export QT file in 16:9 when using DVX100E(pal)

    Hi,
I shot some footage in 'Squeeze' mode 16:9, on Panasonic DVX100E( pal)
When I captured it (FCP 5.0.4) and checked the 'Anamorphic' option in the 'Sequence Settings' it had the right aspect in the Canvas (16:9). To see it correctly in the Viewer, I had to change 'Aspect Ratio' of the clip from -33.33 to zero (inside the 'Motion' tab)
Till that point everything seemed OK.
But when I tried to export it as a QT movie I got the file in 4:3 instead of 16:9. I've also tried to export it as 'Pal 48 Anamorphic', but still the same distorted image... Only when I exported it as Apple Intermediate Codec 720p30 or in any HD compressor I got the right ratio (16:9), but then the quality was not very good.
How can I solve this issue?
    THANKS!
    ymotion

Press command & J keys to open QuickTime Player's "Properties" window.
    Click the Presentation tab.
Click the checkbox next to *Conform Aperture*.
It will jump to the Clean setting and your movie will display as 16:9.
Use this method only if the movie is intended to be viewed on a computer.
In a DVD authoring application, you would leave it as it is and set the anamorphic flag there instead.

  • AE CS3 square pixel export to widescreen pixel PAL M2V (not happening)

I created a PAL widescreen square pixel DVD menu videobackground animation in After Effects (1024 x 576px). I exported it as PAL DV WIDESCREEN which streches the size to 720 x 576. I would assume this results in a PAL DV WIDESCREEN PIXEL M2V file with the size of 720 x 576, the standard SD DVD widescreen movie, right? BUT, instead, I get a 720 x 576 square pixel movie, at least Adobe Encore interprets it that way. So, why?
Then if I export with the same settings but as an Uncompressed Avi, I get what I want, which is PAL WIDESCREEN PIXEL movie with the size of 720 x 576. And Encore is able to interpret it correctly, AS a PAL Widescreen pixel movie. Any ideas or logic why this is happening?

Change the Interpretation in Encore DVD, and then file a bug report at:

  • Exporting an NTSC source video in quicktime for PAL audience - help!!!

I have recorded a promo video on an NTSC DV camera, I have captured and edited into FCP and its ready to export.
What settings in FCP do I use if I want to export a quicktime movie to iDVD and have it play no problem on PAL and NTSC DVD players?
The settings list is pretty daunting!!!!!
    Powermac G5 2.5GHz Dual / MBP 15" 2.16Ghz + 1GB Ram/ 500GB Lacie Ext HD   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

If you are going to build and burn the DVD disk using iDVD, your options are extremely limited.
Export your file using Quicktime (not quicktime conversion) using 'Current settings'. If you have space on your hard drive, select "make self contained".
To make the NTSC version, simply drop this your normal NTSC formated iDVD template and away you go.
    To make the PAL version:
    -create a new sequence
-place your self contained exported file in the timeline
-drop Nattress's standards converter on it
    -export as a PAL file.
Then, create a PAL iDVD project, drop your new PAL formated file on it and away you go.
    good luck.
