Exporting to Encore Interlacing Problem

Hi,
     I am finishing up my project and am working on getting DVDs burned and have run into a problem.
     My computer came with Final Cut Pro and some of the Studio applications on it, but not DVD Pro. I decided to build my menu in Adobe Encore, which I already have on my computer. I exported my movie in QuickTime from Final Cut. This video looks fine when played on my computer just through QuickTime or in iDVD, but when I import it into Encore, it shows up with interlacing/jagged lines when something moves fast horzontally across the screen or the camera pans. This happens when I play it in Encore or burn it to a DVD. The interlacing doesn't show up too much, but my equipment wasn't horribly high quality so any more quality lost is quite annoying. My sequence settings in Final Cut are:
          Frame Size: 640x498 (custom)
          Pixel Aspect Ratio: Square
          Field Dominance: None
          Editing Timebase: 29.97
          Quicktime Video Settings: Apple ProRes 422 (100%)
          Render in 8-bit YUV
          Process Maximum White as: White
          Motion Filtering Quality: Normal
Also, will I get higher quality video if I use Compressor with the project? I have tried using it to fix a past problem but it had the interlacing issue as well.
I don't know if anyone can answer these questions because they deal with Encore, but I figured I'd ask. Thanks in advance!!!

How are you viewing it. A computer screen is progressive and will always have problems with fast movement with interlaced material. Compressor has a great deinterlacing option in the frame controls. Will add considerably to the time it takes, but well worth it.
And why is your frame size 640x498. that's just wrong. And the resizing that's being done to make it fit the dvd standard may be part of the problem.

Export problem "A serious error has occured", or hang, upon export to Encore.

I am using adobe Premiere CS3 3.2
I am trying to export my project to a DVD. I've been told that the best way to do this with minimizing quality loss is to export to Encore.
My project has some filters that affect system memory and have locked up the computer numerous times before, like Looks Suite and Noise Remover (on some clips)
when I choose export to Encore, then choose settings, I get the error "A Serious Error has occured...." Then I trried lowering the settings, and I got the window that says "Rendering", at least, but nothing appeared in that window after I left it overnight.
So I have some questions:
- What's the best thing I can do to export my movie onto a DVD with minimum loss of quality?
- Should I export as a video file first? Which is the best quality? Then can I export to Encore?
- Does it help to pre-render my entire project in Premiere first, THEN export to Encore?
I'd appreciate some advice.

EDIT: I just tried to export as a Quicktime Uncompressed video with the regular method (Export-> Movie).. and it gave me the error "Could not compile movie..." then the message "adobe premiere pro is running very low on system memory"
So I am assuming this is a memory issue? Then what should I do??
Also, I want to ask- If I put my entire project with all its files onto an external hard drive, then move them to another computer with adobe premiere pro installed which also has the same filters installed, would I be able to export this way?

I am quite sure it is a memory problem... the computer exported other videos in the past just fine, but its never been used for making a film with a lot of filters and such that run down the memory, and so it gives me the memory errors.
I am not sure what is "Memtest86+"... I would like to try such a program, but in fact this is not my computer... I am using a Workstation at a University and now I have limited time to complete my project (I must figure out a solution by the end of the day on Monday)
Maybe AVI is the best for some... but I have done comparisons beforehand which found .mov to be the best... and I was even told that uncompressed quicktime doesn't lose quality at all (though in fact it seems to just a bit). So if you not completely sure which will be better, I will go with .mov.
So I will try a few things- like exporting only the "special" clips which used a lot of filters on individually as .mov, then reimporting them into the project, then trying to export the whole thing into encore... If that does not work, I will try to export fragments as.mov (because if I try to export too much at one time, it has the memory error->crash).. then create a new project, import the .mov files, and export to Encore.
I only have limited time to solve this problem.. do you all think I am taking the right steps?
Also one key question I have is about the audio.. do you recommend that I export all of the audio into one wav file, and then put that into the new project? Or should I just export the quicktime files, with their audio, into the project and keep it like that?

Interlace problem or compression artifact?

I am working on a volunteer project for a local museum wherein some old VHS tapes need to be digitized. The final video (probably MPEG-2) will be accessible from research computers at the museum. File size is not a big issue, but preserving as much quality (such as it is) from the 10+ year old VHS (not SVHS) tapes is essential.
So I feed the analog output from my tape deck to my Sony TVR310 camcorder for A/D conversion, then capture from there to my PC via firewire. I have tried capturing via the software that came with my Edius (a.k.a. Canopus) card, and also directly into Premiere. Same thing happens both times.
On the exported video (AVI, MPG1, MPG2) I see these wavy edges on the left and right sides of high-contrast areas. See the guy's hat in the attached image (if it ever gets outa the queu). Does this look like a compression artifact? Or is it an interlace problem? I do not see this effect when I watch the original video on my TV.
Note that Premiere reports the average data rate for the 720x480 @ 29.97 fps clip as 3600 kb/s. So when I export to MPEG I set the data rate at 5000 kb/s.
When I process and export the video in Premiere, I have "no fields" selected everywhere, and for the actual export I have selected the "de-interlace" option. Since this is for viewing on computers only, I figured that was the correct thing to do.
Edited: I should also mention that I do not see this effect in the monitor window when I scrub the clip on the timeline.

The first time I tried with the capture settings reset to LFF, and then tried to export (as uncompressed AVI), specifying "no fields" in the "keyframe and rendering" dialog box, and selecting "deinterlace" in the "special processing" dialog box, I still got those artifacts.
THEN ... after searching the help file for "deinterlace" and reading all the linked pages, I tried right-clicking on the clip on the timeline, went to "video options" / "field options" and selected "always deinterlace." Had to re-render on the timeline. Then, after exporting same as before, the artifacts were finally gone.
So you were correct about it being an interlacing issue. Thanks for the insight! GSpot now reports the exported video as 29.97 frames and 0 fields.
Here's a puzzle though ... I tried the same thing with the original clip (the one captured as progressive instead of LFF) and it smoothed out as well. Perhaps Premiere is smart enough to recognize what it's getting for input, and ignores stupid commands? Whatever, this means I can use my original footage and not have to recapture 1.5 hours of video.

I recently shot a short 16mm film and got it telecined to DV NTSC with timecode/keycode window-burn. I imported the flex file I got from the lab into a Cinema Tools 4 database, then exported a batch capture list, and captured the footage into FCP 6. Everything seemed to have worked correctly, with the window-burn on the video matching the timecode and keycode information in CT. HOWEVER, when viewing the footage in the CT window, certain frames have interlacing problems. The pattern is:
A2, B2, C1, D1, D3
For every frame, the last number on the burned-in timecode is a bit fuzzy, but for every C1 and D1 the last number on the timecode and the last two numbers on the keycode are barely legible. C1 and D1 are also the two frames when the video image has an interlaced look to it.
And this is happening BEFORE I have even tried to reverse telecine! The footage has none of these problems when viewing on FCP and the original quicktime videos look fine as well. It is only in the CT window that I get this problem.. I am planning on eventually getting the negative conformed from an EDL list, and am worried this problem might be a sign of some sort of discrepancy between the film negative and the Cinema Tools database.
The info I entered into the database initially was TK Speed: 24 and TC Rate: 30 NDF, but have tried experimenting with different variations, none of which fixed the problem. ALSO, when I went ahead and reverse telecined the clips with CT, it took out every D1 frame correctly, but the interlacing and illegible numbers problem persisted. When I connected the new reverse telecined clip into FCP, the problem was still there. After exporting to Encore, no audio/video transitions

I used keyframes to create audio/video fade-ins and fade-outs between chapters. It looked perfect in Premiere. I then went to File > Export to Encore. Let it render for 3 hours. Then the resulting m2v/wav combination in Encore doesn't show any evidence of the audio transitions that I had created. This happened for 4 different 2-hour videos I am trying to make. What am I doing wrong?

If you set the work area bar to span one of the problem transitions and then export that work area to a DV AVI file, when you play the exported file in an external media player do you hear the audio transition?

Premiere Pro CS3 crashes when exporting to Encore CS3

"Sorry, a serious error has occurred that requires Adobe Premiere Pro to shut down. We will attempt to save your current project."
That is the error message. I am editing an AVCHD project in which I already converted as an .mpg prior to importing into Premiere (since CS3 does not import AVCHD natively). This is the first time I am doing this workflow, as a client has given me AVCHD files to work with. The project RT is 1 hr 2 min. I need to create a DVD and Blu-ray of this project.
System Specs
~Processor: AMD Phenom 9600 Quad-Core Processor 2.30GHz
~RAM: 4.00 GB
~OS: Windows Vista 32-bit
~Have the most recent updates for all CS3 programs
I tried:
Exporting to Encore
~Tried various settings for DVD. NTSC Progressive Widescreen High Quality, Medium, etc.
~Tried the preset for exporting Blu-ray to Encore.
~Created a new sequence with about 7 min of the project to see if it was a corrupt file; same results.
Using Adobe Media Encoder
~Used various presets and custom settings with the same result [error message; Premiere "stops working" and then crashes]

I observed the Windows Task Manager when Premiere is opened and then when it crashes. The RAM is at 1.12GB before the project is opened, goes up to 2.17GB when it is opened, and remains about the same when it crashes. The CPU Usage is about 4-10% before the project is opened, spikes dramatically (+/- 10-80%) when Premiere is opened as well when it crashes.
I appreciate any and all help. Thank you to everybody in advance who will contribute a solution to my problem!

PPro before CS5 NEEDS to be run in compatibility mode with Windows 7, which means right click the program icon and select WinXP compatibility mode from the popup

Trouple exporting to encore

Having problems exporting to dvd, on the menu
export/export to encore/
"export to encore" is greyed out, I cannot save to dvd.
I am just trying to make a simple dvd export, that will just play when it's put in a dvd player.
What am I doing wrong?

If you are using the trial version, you will have to pay & register to unlock all MPEG functions... and also download and install Encore

Exporting to Encore Burn issue!!

Ok so for some reason this problem just started! If I export to Encore without menus to just burn a copy of a sequense it gives me an error. It will render fine but when in encore and building the dvd it gives me this
PGC "project name" has an error at "Time code"
Internal software error %0, line (project name)-PGC Info:Name=(project name), Pref=bpgc, (time code)
Its always like the last few tenths of a second and I have tried shortning the sequence so its before the error but it just gives me a new one.
Does anybody have anything to help me with this??

Export to Encore cs4

Hi,
How to export to adobe encore cs4 from adobe premiere pro cs4 timeline?
There is no encore export option in the file>export.
Should I have to export to encore using File>Adobe Dynamic Link>Send To Encore?
Also I am getting an error while starting encore. It is "Adobe Encore.exe - Unable to Locate Component" as title of the dialog box and the message is "This application has failed to start because preminfo.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem." and a OK button. After clicking the Ok button encore starts normally.

Though that was rather obvious, my intent was to encourage those that replied to check that their answers are valid before posting them. Many replies (including in this post) might be helpful but alas are not as a result.
Perhaps you're saying that Adobe is doing much better in CS5 documentation and one can safely say 'RTFM.' I hope so. Much of the learning curve steepness is exacerbated by tutorials that aren't 'version clear' or help documents that have old (and now incorrect) information in them.
The forums are a wonderful tool to help - thanks to all.

Exporting graphics over interlaced futage

I would realy aprishiate your help on this one!!

After effects cs4
Im working on 1920:1080 50i square pixels uper field first futage and I aplied some graphics in after effects. But when I render it in same interlace resolution and import (interpretate futage) the futage looks good but graphics like text and every other element drown in after effects looks in poor resolution. I have to deliver interlaced futage and i tryed everything I could think of with no resoults.
befour rendering I render preview and everything looks perfect, but when I render it(1920:1080, sqere picsel, uper field first, TIFF sequence, same as the footage) and import renderd sequence back on top of layers to compare, the footage looks perfect but graphics look 5% blured.
Is it posibile that only a part of the same, renderd footage is previewed incorectly ??
I always interpretate futage as it is captured or renderd.
Delivery metod is a little tricky too, I have to export to editors interlaced footage so they could put it in their project and further down the line they will send whole film to the laboratory so they can deinterlace everything together and transfer it to 35mm so even if it looks good on interlaced monitor will it look the same on the film??

and I watched it on interlaced monitor, it looked little better but not perfect. But I realy think that the problem is in my work flow so I made this smaller and much simpler project where I get the same kind of defect and maybe you could tell me where I made mistake??
-open new project make new comp(dv pal sqere picsel) and make one text leyer(I wrote "test" with big futura bold font, white font against black bg).
then animate text, I applied expresion to rotation time*120. Add to render queue and go to render settings and set field render to upper field first
quality best resolution full ofcourse, and in otput module chouse TIff sequence and render it.
Then I imported renderd tiffs,interpreted them as upper field first and edges of the text look like they lost a half of resolution horisontaly.
..ok, if its my monitor than i shuld be able to deinterlace that and see a normal picture right??
Add that new comp to render queue and export with same settings just change upper fild to no field. and again i get the same problem vith edges.
obviesly i make some mistake in that proces but if that same proces works great with captured interlaced futage why do I get this problems with grphics made in after efeects and how do you combine those two(interlaced fotage and AE graphics) and export them as same interlaced footage??
Is that the right way of interlacing the graphics made in after efeects??

Audio goes out of sync when Blu-ray folder is exported from Encore CS6

I compile a project in Encore using H.264 and .wav files. The audio plays fine directly from the timeline. It also plays fine when I preview it from Encore. When I finally export it as a set of Blu-ray folders, the audio exports out of sync with the video. It is approximately 6-7 seconds ahead of the video. What am I doing incorrectly? When I mux the files into an .MKV, the video is in sync with the audio so I know the files themselves do not have different start times.
I am running with an HP Z820 with Windows 7, 64-bit OS and 16GB RAM.

For anyone who's interested, I found a solution to this problem. Once imported into Encore, the leader in on the video and audio files cannot be trimmed at all. (I had been trimming the beginning of the video and matching audio file to eliminate the 8 seconds of dead space at the start of the clips.) Although the trim took effect immediately in the Encore timeline and I could also watch it in preview in sync, exporting was another story. The audio track seems to retain the trim when exporting but the video track does not, hence the 6-7 second delay between audio and video.
I reimported the files to my project and left in the 8 seconds of dead space at the start and voila! The video and audio match up when exported.
Ideally the trim tool would just work as its supposed to through export and all, but at least I found a solution I can work with.
(As a note, the trim works just fine in export on Encore CS5. I only had this problem with Encore CS6.)

Frame rate issue and interlacing problems

i am going to close a project created from others and when exported the final at source setting, 422 pro I ve got I guess some interlacing problem, horizontal lines.the project had this problems, clips at 29,97 but project is at 25 i
now considering that final target is a standard DVD and project is in 1080, what is the best way to export and to solve this issue? sending project to Compressor and there using the slowest and the best setting for dvd's?

There may not be a problem with your project if delivery is DVD. Computers do not display interlaced at all well. Output to DVD and test with a DVD player>TV. It should be fine.

Interlacing problems

I have had some old Std 8 and Super 8 family films professionally transferred to DVDs and am now trying to edit them in iMovie 09. Following Appleman1958's suggestion using MPEG QT Component and MPEG Sreamclip I have edited them successfully but the output DVD when played on a TV is dramatically full of 'combing' on moving images (interlacing problem?). I would be very grateful if anyone could suggest how I could resolve this problem.

Try this:
As you are converting them in MPEG Streamclip,
1. File/Export Using QuickTime
2. For Compression, choose Apple Intermediate Codec
3. Uncheck the box that says interlaced scaling
4. Check the box that says Deinterlace Video
5. In "Field Dominance" choose "Upper Field First"
6. Click "Make Movie".

Red frames when exported to encore

Not sure if this is an encore or a premiere pro problem
I am trying to create a blu ray disc from a video shot in HDV.
I have captured and edited my video in premiere pro and it looks great but I am having problems getting it on to a blu ray disc. I am using premiere pro CS3.
If I export to encore or use the adobe media encoder I end up with a few clips being affected by being replaced with bright red frames.
Now I have tried this on two projects and its always the same clips which are affected
so I have started a new project gone back to the source footage and captured just a clip which was affected and tried to encode that single clip with the same results it gets corrupted into red frames.
The clip plays perfectly well in premiere pro and can be exported back to tape without any problems ...so what is going on

Its hard to know what has corrupted the frames as sometimes after encoding i get some completely red frames and some whith a little of what should be there showing through.
It happens consistantly on two clips that I have been using in different projects.
so as I said before I have created a new project gone back to the original and recaptured those two clips into my new project and tried to encode them in several different ways but all fail to encode properly.
This is a Pal Project recorded captured and edited in HDV
I used the MPEG2 settings and frame size of 1440X1080.
I first used the default setting for 1440x1080 quality high, with a default qualty of 4 and then increased the quality to 5 without improving things.
Ive tried reducing the target bit rate from the default to 20, still the same.
Ive tried using CBR instead of VBR 2 pass. still no difference.
My machine is a Dual Quadcore Xeon processors. with 4 GB of ram and a Matrox RTX2 card. both my video hard discs have around 50% free.
I really am struggling to know what is wrong.

Unable to Return Frame Error Exporting to Encore

I've been getting the Unable to Return Frame error while exporting to Encore and I can't seen to find a fix for the problem. Does anyone know how to fix this?
