Exporting to Final Cut Studio questions.

Hi Everyone.
Sorry for the rookie question. I have been searching for answers and found a few things about exporting but have a few question I was hoping someone could answer.
I have created a project in LiveType. It's 10seconds long. 720x480, square pixels, progressive. Final output will be on QT. The video is heavy on effects and takes about 2-3 minutes to render.
Which file do I use in FCPro? The LiveType file or the QT file that LiveType Renders? I was using the actual LiveType file that way if I have any changes I can go back... change it in LiveType and then it updates in FinalCut. However... that requires a lot of rendering time in FinalCut. Is that the proper process of importing and exporting between the two?
Also... I have the LiveType file exactly how I want it. I thought FinalCut might have an easier time using a QT file from LiveType. However, when I render from LiveType the .MOV file is 350megs... that seems kind of large to me for 10 seconds. When I import it into FinalCut I still have to render it, which takes forever and then if I add a transition it has to render that as well. My settings are the same for in Final Cut as they are in LiveType. I was hoping for a faster process. Why does FCPro have to render my .mov file if it's already 720x480, progressive, 30fps... all setting are identical?
Thanks in advance. Feel like I'm really close to understanding all that is going on... just looking for a little bit more guidance.

Hi Doug thanks for the reply.
I'm going to be showing this using QT that's why I want square pixels. It's never going to be shown on a TV screen. It's going to be projected using a projector to a screen. I like the look of a more rectangular image.
I'll stick with the .ipr workflow. Thanks for the advice.
I have another question. When I render my LiveType animation does it render it uncompressed? Is that why the .mov file it creates is so big? At a duration of 10 second the .mov file is about 350MB. When I import it into FinalCut it takes forever to render and work with... so does the .ipr file.
Is there anything I can do to speed up this process?
When LiveType finishes rendering my animation I created it opens the rendered .mov file for playback. I ended up saving it from this position using the .264 compression. Which took the .mov file down to 7megs and final cut is able to handle it much better. Is this OK?
Thanks again.

  • Reinstalling Final Cut Studio question

It looks like we will have to reinstall Final Cut Studio 2 and the operating system (Leopard) on one of our iMacs.  We have the serial numbers and know which goes to each machine, but the DVD disk sets were all stored together and not marked.  Does it matter if we use the wrong set of DVDs?

is there a way to import DV from the canon xl1 in to FCPX?? I have a firewire cable to the mac but still no feed from camera. sorry to but in your convo by the way. i really need some help.

  • Exporting scoring markers in Final Cut Studio and importing to Logic Pro

I want to export my scoring markers with the movie in Final Cut Studio and see them as markers in Logic Pro 7.2.x. I need to use the markers as "hit points" to calculate my tempos and effectively lay out my score based upon the action in the picture. I'm exporting the Final Cut Studio project to a Quicktime movie and choosing audio and video + "scoring markers". Thanks for your help.

Don't bother rendering a movie out of LiveType, simply save the project file and import it into FCP.
LiveType outputs in the Animation codec only, so you will always have to render. Using the project file has another advantage -right clicking and choosing "Open in Editor" will drop you back into LiveType where you can quickly make adjustments, save and return to FCP with the changes in place.
To set project properties, you can use the Place Background Movie function in LiveType. Drop a short clip in and it will automatically adjust the properties to match. You can delete it once you have the settings. If you have Anamorphic video, you will still need to adjust the pixel aspect ratio -exact settings depend on the format, you haven't told us that yet.
Again, depending on the format, you might have to set the Anamorphic flag in FCP's Item Properties for the LiveType file.
When you view the FCP export in QuickTime Player 7 (not QuickTime Player X) make sure that the High Quality Playback preference is selected.
    Typefaces in video:
Avoid using small, thin, delicate and Serif typefaces. They never work well.
A well known example of a Serif font is Times, which you should avoid at all costs in any case -it makes it look like you made the titles in MS Word. Stick with San Serifs with clear, bold strokes. Helvetica is a popular example of a San Serif.
If your titles are white, reduce the brightness to around 90%. Apply a shadow or border to distinguish them from the background. While it might sound counter productive, applying a tiny amount of blur can help too.
One more thing: Don't put your email address in the body of your post. The forums are open to anyone who wants to read them and by extension, web bots. They will harvest the address and bombard it with spam. We don't do personal email on the forums anyway -we share information amongst all users.

  • Is it possible to export Final Cut Pro X or .MOV to DVD Studio Pro (Final Cut Studio)?

Is it possible to export Final Cut Pro X projects or .MOV to DVD Studio Pro (from Final Cut Studio v.3)? I'm using the free trial of Final Cut Pro X and later acquired a copy of Final Cut Studio (FCP 7, Compressor 3.5, DVD Studio Pro 4, Color 1.5, Motion 4, Soundtrack Pro 2).
I don't like the default DVD export in FCPX, so I would like to do it on DVD Studio Pro. Is it possible to export the project or the final .MOV file to DVD Studio Pro?
Additionally, can I use unfinished FCPX projects on FCP7?
Is it possible to export from FCPX to Compressor 3.5 (Final Cut Studio)?
Feedback would be greatly appreciated. As of this post, I have about 13 days left on my FCPX trial. Or would it just make sense to just use Final Cut Pro 7, since I have a permanent copy of it?
    Thank you.
P.S. Where would be the best place to store projects or any other file related to Final Cut Studio or Final Cut Pro X? My MacBook Pro has 320GB built in storage (only 60GB available), and I have a 1TB external hard drive.
What is best to store on the Macintosh internal hard drive?
What is best to store on the external hard drive?

Yes you can make DVDs in DVDSP using video exported from FCPX.
There are some apps that will translate between X and 7- that said I would highly recommend not going back and forth as the translations are not 1:1 perfect.
I would recommend storing all Events and Projects on the External drive.
Compressor 3.5 will not accept exports directly from FCPX- you'll need Compressor 4 which is $49.
Totally up to you whether you want to make the jump to X. 7 is an EOL'ed program, meaning there will not be another version of that application. Final Cut Pro X is the version being actively developed now.

  • Another Final Cut Studio 2 question...

    Hey guys,
I'm hoping this is the right place to ask this question.
A little while ago I had the Academic version of the Production Suite then last year, I bought my MacBook Pro. I upgraded for the Final Cut Studio when they had the promotion to upgrade for 200$ or whatever it was.
Now, my question is... since I upgraded from my Academic FCP to the generic upgrade (which I'm assuming was the same upgrade for everyone since there's no more Academic badge,) can I purchase the FinalCut Studio 2 upgrade? Or do I need to get the Academic version?
Is there a way to make sure, with my serial number, which kit I'm allowed to buy?
Another quicky; I have a Dual 2.5G5 PowerMac and I noticed that my graphics card doesn't meet the requirements for Color. What's the suggested graphics card for this system that will work with all the studio apps? I don't want something that's too expensive. It's funny because the graphics card on my MacBook Pro meets the requirements but the screen doesn't and my PowerMac's graphics card doesn't meet the requirements but my screen has a high enough resolution...
I know it's a long post but any help would be appreciated!
    Thanks!

They only say that you need the video card in that the Quad came with stock... The 9600 Pro is in spec with Color, which is one of the main reasons why I'm upgrading! I have a month to find one... The local shop has been backordered for awhile and it seems the same fate for online vendors I'm looking for an alternative!

  • Firewire and final cut studio 2 question

I just got a Macbook Pro and I'm loving it! I also have Final Cut Studio 2 and i'm anxious to start playing. my question is about what type of firewire i need to get to capture video from my Canon hv20 camcorder. which is better, a 4-pin or a 6-pin? I see from a previous post that the 6-pin can supply the camera with power. I'm not so concerned about that, I'm just wondering what are the other important differences (if any) between 4 pin and 6 pin? differences in speed? vid quality? and if i decide to buy an external hard drive to keep my video files on, does that change my decision? thanks for any advice/answers!

+"I'm just wondering what are the other important differences (if any) between 4 pin and 6 pin?"+
Just two wires that carry power. A 4 pin connecter is a differnt shape to a 6 pin and are not interchangeable. All miniDV cqameras use a 4 pin system.
    +"differences in speed? vid quality?"+
    No different.
+"and if i decide to buy an external hard drive to keep my video files on, does that change my decision? thanks for any advice/answers!"+
Not at all. An external drive will require a 6 pin cable.
From camera to external 4-6 pin.
From external to Mac 6-6 pin.
This info assumes you are using firewire 400. Some Macs have firewire 800 which requires a different cable to the 6 pin.

  • Problems exporting HD timeline in older Final Cut Studio HD

I've been working on an older version of Final Cut Studio HD. I had originally offlined the footage so I could edit it, and I finished onlining the footage with the original HD footage. The aspect ratio of the project and the footage is 1920 x 1080, and the codec of most of the footage and the timeline was set to H.264. The only problem is, now that it's onlined, it refused to render any of the transitions. It gives me some kind of codec error. I have also tried exporting the timeline as a Quicktime Movie, but it always fails at somepoint in the process. I have tried exporting Quicktime Conversion, and it failed too. The only way I was able to get it to output was to change the codec of the timeline and in Quicktime Conversion, but this provided a subpar quality file. I understand that I'm using and older version of Final Cut Pro on an older system, but I'm trying to find work arounds to this issue that will allow me to output a quality full HD file. Any help is appreciated.

Choose it. Set your Field Dominance to None.
Gaaaah! That's what I get for trying to save myself some typing.
Now get on with it. Start editing

  • Questions about final cut studio 7 and motion 5

    Hello!
    I have two questions:
    1. How do I find all the updates to the final cut studio? Last came out before the final cut pro x came out.
    2. Works Motion 5 good up to final cut pro 7? Will there by any problem to use both prorammene against each other? And if so, what kind of problem can arise?
I would be grateful if someone could tell me this because I had settings alert Motion 4 (which now crashes at startup). And considering buying Motion 5 for I will not have to be automatically installed again my whole system that works one hundred percent. The job I would rather not do.
I'm not so good English so I hope you understand what I mean.
Can any help me for this little crisis I have a lot of work left and wait. :-(

This I have done to run instaleringen the entire final cut studio re-enter. Ran software product update. Have checked the final cut pro and then I have version 7 and version7.0.3 as I had before.
Before this, I have thrown the preference files for Motion 4, but disk utility to repair permissions on the system drive, I have not used.
But how can a fjærne entire final cut studio package also put it in again so we have aclean new installation of the programs?
How can we explain that this has happened? Just what I do not understand.
Are happy for all the tips I get. For I dread to put reindeer speakers the whole thing sinceit worked so well as it did before this happened.
Thanks to all who will help me. I will be very happy if this can be solved in an easymanner without having to spend a whole day on automatically installed everythingagain.

  • Final Cut Studio 5.0 question

    Hi
This is a Final Cut Studio (FCS) 5.0 PPC version question. I understand that Final Cut Pro is a pro application in the FCS suite, but since there is no FCS forum i will post this question in the Final Cut Pro forum.
If I were to install the whole FCS 5.0 PPC version on my MacBook Pro (or a future iMac) will it be able to work under Rosetta and it will therefore run a little slower? Ive heard that if you install the non native FCS you will not be able to update it to universal FCS? Also if it does work on intel macs, do you have to buy the FCS application updates, or can you buy the whole complete universal FCS 5.1 suite?
    Thanks
    Regards
    Rich

is there a full FCS available at the moment that installs all the pro apps in FCS as universal? or do I have to install a full working PPC version of FCS and buy the crossover updates from apple?< </div>
The shipping version, 5.1, is universal. 5.0 might be available somewhere but not here. 5.0 is not universal which is why we all up- or cross-graded for cheap when we got the chance. You can upgrade from v1, 2 or 3 for $700.

  • I have a question before I buy Final Cut Studio 2...

I plan on buying Final Cut Studio 2 tomorrow, but before I buy it, I have a question. If something were to happen to my MacBook Pro, can I just install it on another computer? It might be a stupid question but I just want to be sure before I drive to the Apple Store.
    Thanks!

As long as the computer meets the minimum specification you can install it on any computer.
Physically you can install it on thousands of computers but Apple wouldn't be too pleased !
However, you are legally allowed to have it simultaneously on one laptop and one desktop that are owned by you.
So whenever you want you can take it off one computer and put it on another.

No, FCP X will only work with Compressor 4.

  • Final Cut Studio 2 Install questions ...

I have a dual 2.0 G5 that I bought used a while ago and it had Final Cut 5 installed on it. I just bought Final Cut Studio 2 and when I intall I can see that it is upgrading most of the components. Is there a way to uninstall the earlier version and do a clean install of my new FCS2? Or is letting it upgrade the previous owners version okay? I think I would feel better knowing my nice new software bundle was being installed cleanly?
Also, I plan on installing this on my PowerBook. What steps should I take to have the audio/template content get installed on an external drive. I only have 27Gigs available on the internal drive of my laptop.
    Thanks in advance,
    Keith

I would personally wipe the whole machine if I bought it new-- you don't know what the previous owner's loaded on, how many tiny processses have gotten piled up in the background. The only thing you need to run a fresh install is the FCP5 serial number.
As for the PowerBook installation, you will have the option when installing to place the additional content in another location other than the default. I don't remember exactly when this option presents itself, but keep your eyes open and I'm sure you'll see it.

  • Question About Installing Individual Programs in Final Cut Studio 2

I recently installed Final Cut Studio 2, but I chose not to install Livetype on the initial setup. Now I would like to install it, but was curious why it seems to be installing all the information from the other programs I installed last week. Only Livetype was available on the "Custom Install" screen, it was blue and checked. Everything else was greyed out, but still checked. However, it seems to be repeating the same install process I did previously; and I am curious if this is going to create any redundancies on my computer. Any help?

Thank you for your quick response David!
    1. Great! Glad that worked out.
    2. When I say FCS 2 I mean the suite that came with Final Cut Pro 6, DVD Studio Pro 4, Motion 3, LiveType 2, Soundtrack Pro 2, Color, Compressor 3. I'm pretty sure it will play nicely with a new intel machine.
When I say FCS HD I mean the suite that came with Final Cut Pro (5.1.4), DVD Studio Pro, Motion 2, and Soundtrack Pro, and Compressor 2. This version (5.1) was made to work with intel machines.
    3. Thank you also for providing the link! I definitely want to make sure this is legal.
    Much appreciated

  • Export and burn - Final Cut Studio to DVD Studio Pro

I think I am doing all the right settings when I try and convert material that was filmed with an HDV camera into a suitable format for burning and playing on a traditional SD DVD recorder. But even with encodings of 720 x 576i PAL, the disc once burned is rejected by my DVD player, although it plays fine on the Macbook Pro I amusing for editing and burning. Am I missing something obvious? I looked for a standard MPEG -2 setting in the Quicktime Conversion window, but couldn't find one. I have the first version of Final Cut studio, which I think is really FCP v.5.1.
    Thanks
    Nick

It sounds as if you are choosing the HD DVD checkbox in DVD SP.
    You shouldn't.

  • Question about Final Cut Studio 3/Final Cut Pro 7

Last year I bought Final Cut Studio 2 and got a student discount.
I was thinking about upgrading to Final Cut Studio 3, but I saw a post that said you can't upgrade if you have the academic version. First of all, is this true, and secondly how can I tell if I have the academic version?
If I can't upgrade, I can't afford to buy the whole package again. And surely I should have been informed of this! But can I edit a project on Final Cut Pro 6 and then work on it on Final Cut Studio 7, and back again? I presume not, but it's worth asking because I'm pretty much screwed if not and I can't get the upgrade.
    Thanks

I want to upgrade because the macs at uni have upgraded, and I don't live near the uni I attend so it isn't practical for me to stay in their edit suites till late like everybody else does. I only bought the mac and final cut studio last year for this reason! So I prefer to edit from 2 machines: Mine, when I can, and the ones at uni when I'm collaborating with the 'crew'.
However, I cannot see academic version written anywhere. And I know this is going to make me sound even more stupid than I already do, but I can't remember if I got the student discount on Final Cut, or whether it was just on the mac. Does anyone know where I should be looking. I've checked the 'about final cut pro' details and looked through the packaging (and my emails for the receipt) but I cannot see anything.
    Thanks
