Exporting to Flash 8 problem!
I'm working at a hospital in NB Canada creating E-Learning
programs. We just purchased Studio 8 and Captivate 2. When I create
a project in captivate and I try to import to Flash 8, I get this
error message - "an internal Adobe Captivate error (bad argument)
occured. If you have any questions please contact Adobe Technical
Support." I searched Adobe's support topics and tried everything
they have suggested. They suggested that the CP file could be
corrupt so I downloaded a fresh copy of Captivate and created a new
file and the same thing happens. I have coppied these two folders
into their appropriate place: C:\Program Files\Macromedia\Flash
8\en\First Run\Classes\AdobeCaptivate and C:\Program
Files\Macromedia\Flash 8\en\First Run\Classes\MMQuizzingV3.
The files that I am creating are simple quizzes, nothing
complicated... I've even tried it with just 2 true/false questions
and I still get that message.
If anyone knows the answer to this, any suggestions would be
greatly appreciated.
Thank you!
I experienced something similar on my WinXP box. I had
previously been using earlier releases of these apps, Captivate
1.01 and FlashMX/2004. I left these older apps installed when I
installed Captivate 2.0 and Flash 8, thinking I could use both
scenarios when needed. It used to work until some MS patch updates
a while back put a stop to that. I'm not certain though, so can't
really place blame there.
My solution was to UNinstall my older apps, Captivate 1.01
and FlashMX. Most of the funtionality works now on the newer
releases, but the two apps still appear buggy.

Exporting to Flash - Problem with Audio
When importing a Captivate movie into Flash, I'm noticing
that the audio on each slide runs together when the forward/rewind
buttons on the control are pressed. Is this just a bug in the
import/export process, or is there a setting that needs to be
adjusted? Thanks!Hi Bill_WA and welcome to the community
As there are no specific settings I'm aware of that would
govern this when importing into Flash, my guess is that it's simply
an artifact of importing into Flash.
Wish I had a nifty solution to offer here. Maybe one of the
Flash regulars here can offer up some insight, as I tend to use
Captivate as an applicaiton in its own right and not as a Flash
extension.
Cheers... Rick -
Flash Album Exporter in iFrame problem. Greybox not working as expected
Hello all,
I've searched and I can't find the solution or any info on the problem elsewhere.
I've used Flash Album Exporter for the grey box effect. This appears perfectly here
http://web.me.com/james.veitch/BoxReviews.index.html
However, it's aligned to the left hand side; I can't get it to centre and there's more text I want to put on. So I thought I'd put it in an iFrame. The moment I do that, things go wrong. Here
http://web.me.com/james.veitch/KeatsinHampstead/Home2.html
For some reason it won't load the images. What am I doing wrong? Also, is there any way to change the thumbnail images?
Thanks in advance,
James.James:
First, I can't get your first link to work. Removing the ".index.html" from the link does get the flash to load and play.
For some reason that particular flash presentation won't work in an iFrame/HTML snippet. Have you tried using a different FAE theme to see if you can get it to work in the iFrame. I've been able to get several to work in my demo sites: SimpleViewer and Flash Album Exporter and Flash Album Exporter Postcard and AutoViewer Slideshow Themes.

Quicktime movie export from Flash CS3 is skipping frame.
When I try to export Quicktime movie from Flash CS3, the
resulting mov file is skipping frames. i.e.: The movie is showing
frame number 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 7, 7, 10, 11, 12, 12, 12, 15
etc...
As you can see the frame number 7 is repeated 3 times and
frame 8 and 9 are nowhere to be found.
The last configuration I used is 960x540, Sorenson video 3
medium quality, 25 fps, keyframe every 25 frames. 6400 kbits/s.
I tried various configurations, with different codecs and even
with keyframe all frames and I always get simillar problems.
Anyone have an idea what is going on, and how to fix this?
Thank you,
Olivier. The QT exporter in Flash is honestly my least favorite
feature - not the feature itself but how it
works (or how it doesn't work in some cases). For me it is
almost unusable unless you have a very
short timeline, small stage, lower frame rate - like AS
generated effects or something - otherwise,
for true frame accuracy to video output - it is not reliable
enough and not fast enough for any real
world production environment.
So typically for me - I love SWF2Video (www.flashants.com) as
it takes any SWF and makes it into an
AVI that is frame accurate no matter what the frame rate is -
quite incredible - enough so that I
always felt it should have been bundled with Flash (as well
as Wacom tablets).
Harmony is an incredible product - as is SOLO and TBS (Toon
Boom mStudio) - each of those programs
are dedicated animation programs designed for output to video
- Flash has a lot of hats to fill and
it was never really designed for animation to video even
though many of us have found it suitable
for all intents and purposes as an animation program for full
production.
But all in all - the quicktime exporter doesn't really
deliver how we would expect it too I am sorry
to say - I only hope it works as well as it does on the Mac
(Mac users could always choose to export
to Quicktime Video but not PC users).
For now if I am exporting to video I keep it all on the
timeline or nested in Graphic symbols or use
the SWF2Video tool.
hope this helps.

How do you improve quality of QuickTime movie exported from Flash?
Hi
I have designed a Flash animation for a client who has asked me to also provide it in a format which can be used in a film he wants to produce in Apple Final Cut Pro. I assumed the best format would be QuickTime but whenever I export the Flash file in to QuickTime the quality of the film is awful - the graphics leave fragments of themselves behind as they move (if that makes sense?!) and the overall quality isn't very crisp.
I have tried various export settings and followed a few tutorials online but still having no success! If anyone can make any suggestions I would really appreciate it or is there even another file format that can be used with Final Cut Pro?
Thanks for your advice!!Whenever I export an animation out for video, I always export it uncompressed. It gives a very large file, but then you don't have to worry about it getting compressed multiple times (as the video will be compressed when completed), and I have not had any problems with it.
If you are still having problems with QT export - I have heard reports that setting a time in the export (stop after X time, rather than stop at last frame) will get rid of it.
And, if you still have problems exporting to QT, then I suggest exporting to AVI and converting to MOV with a separate tool. -

Mac Projector Crashes When exported From Flash CS5.5
Something strange that i noticed, when i had exported a presentation for a Mac,
on a 64 bit windows 7 using flash cs5.5.
the applicaton gets the paths of a few swfs from an XML file
and loads them one after the other.. there is a small bit of interactivity.
.. tested this projecter on various versions of MAC, it crashes often, crashes earlier if i switch applications. what follows here is a part of a report that was generated on an OS X 10.7.3,
works fine if the projector is exported from flash cs5.
i need it to work when exported from flash cs5.5.. any suggestions on what i need to change in my application so that it works when exported from flash cs5.5?
Your help would be appreciated Thanks in Advance

I am experiencing problems when I export my project to flash in Encore CS3. The project builds & transcodes, then makes a .swf file but when I embed the flash into my html page it will not play. I know I have the correct html code to embed the flash movie into my page and when I replace the flash file I created in Encore with a flash file I have created in Adobe Flash and it will play on my page. The .swf files seem to be really small in size compared to what I have when I build in flash. Is this an Encore CS3 bug that needs to be fixed? Any suggestions as to what I could be doing wrong if not a software issue?
I have attempted several different flash projects ranging from a simple timeline with a 30 second mpeg clip, to a fully authored 15 min DVD presentation with menus. The latest small clip that I exported to flash was 131kb when I went to the sources folder and clicked on properties. the flash folder itself was named bugtest and the flash file was named FlashDVD.swf
I also uninstalled and reinstalled Encore to see if there was an issue with a bad install but it still will not play properly. -
Okay, I have done EVERYTHING I can think of to get the export
to Flash to work with Captivate. However, I am at a loss now. I
keep getting this really weird error message: "Windows cannot find
'#$^&\Flash.exe.' Make sure you typed the name correctly, and
then try again." Does ANYONE know what I am doing wrong???
I already followed the directions provided in an adobe
article. Just FYI.
Thanks,
LizIf I can just step in here for a moment... You must have
Flash installed on your computer; not just any Flash but
1) the full program for creating and editing Flash objects,
and
2) the right version for compatibility with the version of
Captivate you are running. With that in mind, the Flash Player
isn't what it is looking for (with all respect to you, Andrew).
If you have Captivate 1, it is looking for the executable
file for Flash 2004MX, and for Captivate 2 or 3, it is looking for
Flash 8 (or CS3 will do also).
If you do not have the proper version of Flash, Liz, that is
the problem. If you do have the right version installed, you might
have to re-install. It may be looking in the default folder and you
have it installed elsewhere, or when you installed Captivate 3, it
might have missed that install, so it couldn't provide the link it
needs to open Flash when you export from Captivate.
Try this before pulling out your hair:
1) Check to make sure you have the right version of Flash
(see above)
2) If you do, open it, then open a "New Flash Document", then
go to "File > Import > to Stage" (and be sure you have the
*.CP file-type selected in the Import navigator).
Have a good one! -
Exporting to flash 8 makes the slides streched
Hi,
I am not a flash expert, but i need to fix some things in
actionscript before publishing the stuff online. so i cant directly
use the captivate created flash files. If i export the material to
flash the slides are streched and off center ( i see the top left
corner. )
Can anyone help me explain what happened and how i can fix
it?
Thanks,
WouterOK, I'm about at my wits end with this issue and it's only getting worse! Yesterday I did unistalls and reinstalls of both Flash and Captivate and made sure that I the proper Captivate A.S. folders copied to the Flash Classes folder...still no dice.
I then went to IT and asked for a loaner laptop to install both on to see if it might be my PC that's the problem...installed both on the laptop and export the Captivate File to Flash and published it...the audio worked! I was pumped. So went back to my PC and tried again and it didn't work. I then brought the new .FLA over from the laptop and it plays with audio fine on my PC. However the exact same Captivate project exported to Flash on my PC doesn't play the audio. I have a TON of captivate .SWFs that I need to add actions to, so if anyone can offer (even possible) solutions, I'd be grateful! Thanks! -
Exporting to Flash without embedding music files
I had to create a music player for a website, and really didn't want to make a flash player from scratch again. So I had an epiphany and opened Keynote.
I created a slideshow: the first page was a "Click on song to play" and every page after the first was a song that auto played in the background with a next, previous and home hyperlink on each. Ten minutes later I could export to Flash, open it in Safari, and had a perfectly functional flash music player; 10 points for Apple.
The only problem is that the export embeds the songs into the SWF file, making the file around 16mb. In my current setup for the website, it's not a terrible problem, but I was wondering how I would export the file to Flash (from Keynote still) so that the music loaded externally, and only when the song needed to be loaded.
I could buy a swf>fla converter and change the actionscript, but I figured some genius in the Discussions might have a trick up their sleeve.
Well, do ya?
PS: For those interested, here is the file: http://clay.bellmor.com/appledis/musicplayer
Remember, it's 16+ megs, so whip out your Activity window. I also built in a timed auto-tranisition to play the next song. Again, 10 points for Apple.

New MacPro Freezing when exporting to Flash FLV
Hey guys, Hope you can help. I have been trying to export some videos to an FLV file yet every time I try my MacPro gives me the pinwheel and FCP stops responding. A few things you should know:
I just go this MacPro for work (I'm at work). Specs are below. It's less than a week old.
I also just upgraded it to Leopard - It came with Jaguar and an upgrade DVD.
Also, my MacBook Pro exports to FLV just fine, which is still running Jaguar (it couldn't install Leopard correctly for some reason)
I installed FCP Studio2 via a transfer from my laptop during the initial startup of the MacPro.
Anyone had this happen? Now every time I need to export I have to transfer everything over to the laptop. For those who haven't figured it out yet, encoding to Flash thru Final Cut Pro (doesn't matter what version) seems to be choking on Leopard's system.
I have a Quad 3.0gHz MP with 9GB of RAM exporting to Flash all the time and it works great...whereas on my 2.4gHz IC2D 17" MBP with 4GB of RAM it chokes.....
I did some research and the reason is simple....Leopard and FCP's Flash exporting do not mix well. On the MP, I'm still running 10.4.11 and everything exports fine...no spinning beach ball of death, and it exports quickly. It exports JUST as quickly on my MBP, BUT because I have Leopard (10.5.2) on it, it hangs.
If you check where the file is being saved on your comp/external hard drive, you'll see that even though FCP "Isn't responding," that it IS in fact still encoding, but Leopard for some reason doesn't like the encoder or something involved with it.
I know this doesn't solve the problem, but that is the reason as to WHY it is hanging...any system with Leopard rendering out to Flash will have this issue until Apple releases an update for the fix.. -

data rate for the compressor, reduce the frame rate, reduce the
image size, reduce the color depth, etc.
When you select to export to QT, for example, a new window
opens to let you select some basic settings. At the lower right of
that window is a button titled "Quicktime Settings...". Click that
button and a new window will open that will allow you to set the
compressor, frame rate, quality, etc. -

Export To Flash in Encore CS4 on the Mac
It has been widely reported (and I have confirmed) that Encore CS3 will not Build to Flash on a Mac running Leopard 10.5.5 and Quicktime 7.5.5 (the latest versions of Mac OS X and Quicktime). I would be most appreciative if anyone who has received Encore CS4 can determine if Build To Flash works on a Mac running OS 10.5.5 and Quicktime 7.5.5.
Thank you in advance for responding.
TomSince no one has responded to my post on this issue, I can now provide the answer. First however, I want to insert the final comment in a long customer service request that I have had running with Adobe Technical Support since early August on this issue.

Hello Tom,
Thank you for contacting Adobe® Web Support for assistance with Adobe
Encore® CS3.
I understand that you are not able to export as flash from Encore CS3.
On my Mac, I have OS 10.5.5, and QuickTime 7.5.5. I tested this issue
with Encore CS3 and CS4. The export worked just fine on CS4, but again
failed on CS3. I spoke with Adam, and a few others around, and were not
quite sure why he was able to get this to work. I am 100% certain that
using the same workflow, his Mac is able to handle this process, but
none of the others I was able to try this on could. As far as I am
concerned, his ability to perform this export is a fluke, and cannot be
reproduced through known methods.
However, the issue is resolved in the CS4 release, so you should be all
set to do your flash exports once you get your upgrade.
I hope this information helps to resolve your issue. If you require
further assistance with this issue, please update your web case with
complete details, including what steps you have applied and any error
messages you are receiving.

Joshua E.,
Thank you for your clear response to the issue of not being able to Build to Flash using Encore CS3. I can confirm the 100% accuracy
of everything you have said by adding my own experiences of the last 48 hours with Adobe Production Premium CS3 and CS4.
Two days ago I purchased the new Macbook Pro (Intel 2.53 GHz, 4 GB RAM). Immediately after setting up the Macbook Pro and getting i
t operating, I installed Adobe Production Premium CS3 (and all updates to CS3 Production Premium) on this brand new Macbook Pro. No
other software outside of the Mac OS 10.5.5 (and all updates to it) had been installed on this Macbook Pro. I then opened Premiere
CS3, placed 10 seconds of bars and tone in the timeline, and directly exported this to Encore CS3. I then selected Build To Flash.
Once again Encore CS3 froze at the "transcoding video" step and would not progress beyond 20%. This is the exact same behavior I
had on my Mac Pro 8-core machine and reported in this thread.
I then installed Adobe Production Premium CS4 on my Mac Pro 8-core. I followed the above step with the exception that apparently di
rect export from Premiere Pro CS4 to Encore CS4 is no longer available. I simple exported the Premiere Pro 10 second timeline to a
Quicktime .mov file using the Export>Media command in Premiere Pro CS4. I then took this .mov file into Encore CS4 and without bui
lding any menus, selected Build To Flash. The Build to Flash occurred perfectly with no problems at the "transcoding video" step or
any other step.
Needless to say, I am very pleased to see that Adobe has corrected the problems with Build to Flash in CS4 on a Mac. However, this
problem had been well reported in numerous forums (including the Adobe Encore Forum) on the web as far back as six months ago, and
I am saddened to see that Adobe did not feel it was worth the effort to repair the issue with Build To Flash in CS3 on a Mac that w
as apparently caused by an upgrade to Quicktime that Apple released sometime after Quicktime 7.3.1. I cannot expect Apple to addres
s issues with Adobe software caused by their Quicktime upgrades. I do, however, expect Adobe to see that their software runs on the
latest editions of both Mac OS X and Quicktime. Otherwise, as happened with Encore CS3 and Build to Flash on a Mac, the customer bu
ys the software expecting it to work and it does not. We are in a tough economy now. I need the software from Adobe that supports
my media production company to work, and I don't need Apple and Adobe pointing the finger at each other when it does not. I hope th
at you will pass this message along to senior Adobe management.
I do thank you for telling me your observations on Build To Flash with a Mac under Encore CS3.

Captivate 4 export to Flash CS4
Hi,
I am encountering a few problems with Adobe Captivate 4:
- In the previously version it was possible to export a project into different smaller swf files. Is this also possible in Captivate 4?
- I am trying to export my project to Flash CS4 but I get the following error:
The following elements in your project have not been converted. They are not supported by this importer.
508 Compilance
After that I won't be able to see the mousemovents and hint boxes.
- I am not able to play the swf file in internet explorer on windows XP machines. In the previous version it was possible to safe the skin as bitmap, that worked in windows XP. Is this also possible in Captivate 4?
Can somebody help me with one of these problems?Hello, I'm not able to answer all of your question, but will give it a try:
What do you mean by 'exporting to several small swf's'? I do not know this functionality, have been using CP since version 1. Perhaps you are talking about the splitting up when having FMR recordings: every FMR would end up in a different SWF in CP3. This has been removed in CP4, but if you want really to have the files separated, you can activate 'Externalize resources, part FMR SWF' in the Project, Preferences, Publish settings. You can also externalise skin, widgets and animations.
508 Compliance has something with accessibility options. Here I'm not sure at all, why there are problems with exporting to Flash CS4.
Problem with playing CP-movies can be due to Flash Security Settings or to the Flash Player installed compared with the Publish settings (for which Player?).
I believe that BMP has been abandoned for playbars because of lower quality. You have to use a playbar, could use the TOC (instead or in combination with the playbar) or have your buttons on the slides (some of the widgets perhaps).
Perhaps someone else could complete this answer,
Lilybiri
