Exporting to PAL format

Is it possible to export a slideshow project in Aperture 3 to PAL (European) format so that I can copy it in iDVD to share with European friends? iDVD states that I must first change from NTSC to PAL in iDVD preferences and then import a project in PAL. It's the last instruction "import in PAL" that confuses me because that would require that I have Aperture encode the slideshow in PAL first. Any comments?

Yes this is possible.
when you click export in the slide show window, top right hand corner you have the option to "Export for:" Click on this and select custom.
PAL requires the following for a Standard Def DVD video
25 Frames per second
4x3 768x576 pixels
16x9 1024x576 pixels
To achieve these dimensions you will need to adjust your "Display Setting Panel" RHS just above your thumbnails.
Pretty sure that H.264 is the codec you want but play with that and see which gives you the best results.
Hope this helps.

  • How do I export a PAL format dvd into i movie

I have a dvd of my Vegas holiday that is in PAL format and I have no idea how to get it onto i move.  I am a newbie to Apple so laymans terms would be helpful to let me know what to do.
    Cheers Newbie

Perfectly reasonable request! We all start out knowing nothing, then hope to learn a little every day!
So, let's start by why you have to convert: a DVD is in a compresed format called mpeg2, which is standard across all DVDs. This is what is known as a 'final delivery format' and is not suitable for editing. Because is is compressed, a 4.7GB DVD can hold a two hour movie (dual layer DVDs twice that), whereas the DV stream from a video camera, which runs at about 13GB per hour, is not compressed and IS intended for editing.
In other words you have to 'reverse engineer' the DVD back to an uncompressed format in ordfer to edit it. There is a penalty for doing this in terms of slight quality loss, but it is one you can live with.
When you have your DVD as an icon on your desktop, double-click it, and it will open to reveal a TS-Folder containing a number of various files, some called VOB. These are the constituent parts of any video DVD.
When you have downloaded and installed mpegStreamclip, and purchased and installed the Apple mpeg2 plugin, open mpegStreamclip and drag the entire TS Folder into its window. Then using the various menus available to you (just explore them and you will get the hang of it) ask it to convert to DV.
That DV file, which will be many times larger than the original TS Folder, and which can a while to create (be patient - make coffee or prune the roses!) is what you can now import into iMovie for editing etc.
When you have finished doing that, you then have to turn the project back into a DVD.
I don't know what version of iMovie you have, but this should help:

  • Quicktime export to dv format (preferably PAL)

    Hmmm,
I just read Karsten's post and I think I already know the answer but ...
I really need to be able to export a slideshow from iPhoto to DV PAL format. For some reason I can't understand, iMovie produces really bad moire interference patterns with my mum's still photos in the Ken Burns effect, but iPhoto doesn't. I can work around this if I can just do the photo animation and transitions in iPhoto then export to iMovie to add captions, titles, music, voice overs and chapter markers.
The highest quality export I can find is 640x480 which is virtually useless to me. Karsten's post suggests that the frame rate is for NTSC and I need PAL.
I was certain this was possible in previous versions of iPhoto - am I correct.
Why does Apple keep taking away the things I want - firewire, replaced iMovie HD with iMovie 08 (yuck!), export options (what have I missed?)
Anyway, I'm hoping someone can point me at a workaround that isn't too complicated for my mum.
    Steve

Neither iPhoto 4 or 5 has a PAL option under the Quicktime export, only size options. Which iMovie version are you having trouble with? If it's V7 try downloading and usingiMovie HD 6 which has been made available to iLife 08 users who want the many features of V6 that were dropped out of V7.
An alternative that I suggested in the topic with Karsten was using QT Player to convert to PAL after exporting out of iPhoto. It creates a larger file but if you're going into iDVD it will be encoded again. The extra encoding may lessen the image quality but you'd have to give it a try, save the iDVD project as a Disk Image (File->Save as disk image) and play the disk image with DVD Player to see how the encoding went before committing to disk (burn with Disk Utility at the slowest speed available).
    Happy New Year
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There's now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • Help me capture stills from mov files of kodak camera created in pal format

I did not know the difference and saved movie files on my kodak digital camera as pal format - it was top of list - i need to capture some stills as single photos from those files. I have switched to NTSC format for future and will want to capture stills from movies in that format also
does anyone know if quicktime pro 7 will di what i want or what i need to reach my goal?

Even the free version of QT Player allows you to "copy" frames. These could be "pasted" into a new blank using any image editing software.
What ever frame is showing when you stop playback will be the one copied. More control by using the right left arrow keys.
The Pro upgrade can export a frame to many image formats. It doesn't matter that the format is PAL. NTSC and PAL are TV playback settings. Your computer doesn't care.

  • Chapter markers in PAL format

When I share my PAL format iMovie project to iDVD, a DVD in NTSC format results. So I share to Quicktime using the custom settings as advised in the Help menu to get a PAL formatted DVD, but in the process I lose all the chapter markers. I can find no reference to this problem...any ideas please?

The problem arises when I export an iPhoto slideshow. This produces a Quicktime clip, with the only options refer to resolution, no way to specify Pal. Should have made this clear before, but I have only just realised that this is what is causing the problem. (I export it to iMovie in order to add voiceover and chapter markers.)

  • Importing footage so that it is in PAL format

i want to make a imovie project in pal format.i have some video footage that is in my iphoto this footage is in nstc.i have changed the settings in my imovie to import in pal format ...
if i use the footage that is in iphoto now and use it imovie will it be autmaically converted to pal....?
or should i just work with ntsc footage and at he end of process simply export it as pal?
    thanxs

You can rename it b plugging it into iTunes, double clicking the name and typing in the name you want it to be called, if you want to change the ownership you need to ring up apple.

Select the Project in the Browser.  Go to the Info section of the Inspector.  Click the Modify Settings button.  For  Video Properties, change the Format from PAL to NTSC.  Export again, you'll be fine.

  • Crystal report : Export to Text format from BI Launch pad

    Hi,
We are facing issue in exporting the Crystal report to text format option from BI Launch pad view mode. Currently BI launch pad doesn’t support export to Text format option for crystal report in view mode. But export to text format option is feasible in schedule mode. But customer is not interested in exporting the reports through schedule mode.
Please advise, if we have any alternative way of exporting the crystal report to text format option from BI Launch pad.
    Thanks,

    Hi Chinnu,
The question is better suited to be asked in the BI Platform space.

  • Export to Text format

When a report is exported to Text format, trailing spaces do not appear in the exported file.
How do you resolve this issue?
    1. Create a report.
    2. Include 3 fields
    3. Export ->txt
After the end of 3rd field we require 200 spaces...any idea...

Try to insert a new formula after the third field like this
    space(200)
or try to create a formula for the third field like this
    +space(200)
and place this formula in the place of the third field and export to text file.

  • I have Video camera movies that are HD format.. I am doing editing work on them using Final Cut Pro, but using DV PAL format for the projects I am editing. When I then tried to copy my work done in FCP Project that's originally DV PAL , into a new FCP Pro

I have Video camera movies that are HD format.. I am doing editing work on them using Final Cut Pro, but using DV PAL format for the projects I am editing. When I then tried to copy my work done in FCP Project that's originally DV PAL , into a new FCP Project that is HD, and tried reconnect media with original HD movies (video), the sequence project got distorted for all the text, shapes used and all.. everything changed its orientation and scale.. Is there a way by which I can preserve my work done on DV PAL and switch it preserving its proportions, scale and orientation, but on a HD project sequence?? Appreciate your help and advice..

Yes.  A couple of ways that might work.
    First Way
What you need to do is load one of your hd clips in the viewer and edit into a new HD sequence.  Does it display correctionly?
OK, select the clip in the hd timeline and copy (command-c).  Now go to the HD sequence with the material that's distorted.  Select all (command-a) and paste attributes (option-v) and choose basic motion and distort.  That should maek things work.  What won't work is anything that you've adjusted as far as basic motion or distort in your PAL sequence.  That I'm pretty sure you'll have to redo.
    Second Way.
Choose your original PAL sequence and do a Media Manage changing the sequence preset to the appropriate HD paramenters with the media offline.  You then should be able to reconnect these clips with your original HD media.

  • How can I schedule an export to excel format of an OBIEE Analysis or Dashboard to a local directory ?

    Hello,
I would like to schedule with an agent some reports in OBIEE 11g that must be exported in excel format to a specific local directory.
There is a need for a group of OBIEE users to have a set of reports ready (exported in .xlsx) every morning.
Furthermore, if the previous scenario is possible then could I deliver a whole OBIEE Dashboard with the same way?
    Any input will be appreciated.
    Thank you in advance.

    Hi,
As of now , we are not able to save the report in shared location in Linux /Unix.
    Windows it is possible.

After burning a successful DVD in iDVD out of FCPX, how can I see the settings it used?
So I finally burned a DVD out of a Apple Pro Res file into iDVD in PAL format. My question now is how can I find out what the exact burn properties were so that I can apply the same burn properties to a project in Compressor 4?
Is it possible to see what iDVD did?

I don't know any way you can interrogate iDVD to reveal settings to the extent that you can in a Compressor project. What you could do is open up the show's VOB in MPEG STreamclip, go to File and Reveal Stream Information; that will at least give you some rudimentary info like average bit rate. Perhaps someone, with more iDVD experience, can chime in here.
The broader question is why use Compressor at all if your current workflow is doing the job to your satisfaction?
The value of Compressor is that it gives you control over the many parameters that affect size quality.  and playability. The Compressor presets can give you a starting point for DVD delivery, Web, etc. From those presets, people typically experiment by adjusting the parameters until they get the desired results for their specific show. It's a little bit science and a little bit art. After experimenting, you may be able to get slightly better quality for the project you've successfully burned in iDVD by using Compressor and something likeToast…or maybe not.
    Good luck.

  • Export to Excel format changed after update to new Office

    Post Author: Ceraq
    CA Forum: Exporting
I am using the XL export format as an intermediate step to some complex calculations and ties that are not supported in my legacy system.  To get what I want I simply used a CR XI report to create a mid way data file and then used a second report to crunch the final numbers from the data file.  Its a long painful story as to exactly why I have to do it this way... not my choice.
Prior to the update when I exported more than ~65k lines to an XL format they remained in one sheet.  So the second report would grab all the data and go...  Now, after the update of office, the report gets split into seperate sheets each of ~65k records long and the second report sees each sheet as a seperate data table!  I'm pushing over 1.25 million records into less than 400k in the mid data file so I'm getting about 7 sheets instead of the original 1.
I have a lot of work and time invested in this method so I would like to fix it so it still works in the previous manner... I have tried to export to a different format, but it seems that CR XI cannot export to a format that it can also read in... at least that I have found and not without creating a whole new DB for it to export into (Access).  I cannot unroll the new office either as it is already enterprise wide...
Reomendations? Suggestions? Should I simply go get a few cases of Dr. Pepper and tell my wife I wont be home this week and re write everything (no plan on how I'd do that either...)?
    Best regards,
    Michael

  • Change in report format after exporting from pdf format to excel format.

    Hi,
I got a problem while exporting the pdf format of the Report to Excel format "Fully-Foramtted Grids and Texts".
    The format gets automatically changed.
Is there any solution to this problem.

Can you give some more details?
Which version are you using (and which patch level - if any).
Also what formatting is default on the reports and what is the default format in excel.
What exactly is different between PDF and excel?
Another possibility is that font substitution is going on??
