Exporting to PDF, images are disappearing...

Hi,
I've never experienced this before so hopefully somebody knows how to fix it. When I export my InDesign document to a PDF (print quality), some of my imagery disappears. I don't have any imported imagery, I'm talking about text, lines and color boxes (as in a bar graph). Does anyone know why this is happening?
Thanks! Scott
PS. When viewing the PDF after exporting, the pages that pop up with missing imagery give me this message: "An error exists on this page. Acrobat may not display the page correctly. Please contact the person who created the PDF document to correct the problem."

Do you have a reason to why it's not a good solution by chance? I actually found it to be a better way now that I've been forced to do it this way. One, it dropped down the size from like 3mb to 400k, yet it's still print quality. I've also noticed that all of my lines don't change in thickness. One thing I've always noticed about PDF's is that line thicknesses are always thicker in PDF's than in the original ID docs. For some reason once you export them as .eps and combine into a PDF, line thinckness stays true to it's original from ID. One worry I had was not being able to "seach" within the PDF built from .eps because I'm assuming fonts are outlined as art. But I tested it and it works. Highlighting text and copy/pasting works too. So from my perspective it's better. Did you see the screen shot in my previous reply? Here it is again. Notice many of my bars are missing withing the bar graph.

    I belong to a graphic site dreamies.de and my images are disappearing from there since I right clicked on what I thought was set as desktop background. There was another entry under it that said block images from dreamies.de. That is the one that I clicked on by accident and no one knows how to reverse it. Does anyone here know how to reverse it? I was using firefox 3.6 beta 3 when this happened. I am now on firefox 12.
    I already tried right-click the page, choose View Page Info, then click Permissions. The first item is the site-specific permission for images and you should be able to reset back to the default here. This did not work.
    I also tried right-click View Page Info and click Media. Click the first image on the list and observe the Block Images checkbox above the preview at the bottom. Arrow down the list until you come to a site that is blocked and unblock it. There was no unblock just a delete, so I deleted it. This did not work either.
    I know it is a firefox issue because the images are all there when I log in using Internet explorer, but on firefox there are many of my images missing.

  • Indesign export of PDFs - images in pdf fragmented, missing metadata

    Can anyone help with this one?
    We use InDesign CS3 to create PDF 1.6's, directly from InDesign export. The metadata contained in the images on the layout normally are visible in the PDF when you control click and select "show metadata" on the image with Acrobat's touch up object tools. Ocassionally, there is an unknown problem in the process where a given image will "fragment" -- when you click on it in the PDF, a frame surrounds only part of the image, and there's no "show metadata" choice to select. This is kiling us because we doconstruct those PDFs and put them into our long term archive, and the metadata is missing there!
    Anyone know of any reason InDesign export would give such results?
    Any help would be appreicated!
    Thanks.

    Thanks Bob,
    We're just reviewing detailed data now, so it's unclear whether we have any cases where it's a placed PDF (most are tiffs, psds, etc). Good point - if the pdf within is a 1.3 that would be a problem. . .same too with a placed ID file, though I know for sure we're not doing that. I'll post what we find.
    We are ok with regard to version patches. But, Bob, do you by chance know of any specific bugfixes (i haven't read the release notes) that address this? that would help to know too, so as to rule out some times in the past before the patch was applied where the problem occured.
    Meanwhile David W. Goodrich's reminder of adobe technote 332920 if i read it right, suggests non raster images would fail to pass metadta, at least in CS2, i wonder if that applies to cs3 too. . .

  • How to ask about EXPORT to PDF images per/page

    When I export to pdf I get:

    2nd pages on have two images each
    I can't figure out how to make the export ONE image per PDF page.
    Sorry it this question is cryptic...I don't know the correct terms to use.

    I found a promising javascript for Acrobat to split spreads to single pages... there were couple of flaws (cover single page was splitted too, some interactive elements were not deleted when page was cropped and element was left outside of crop area...) I sent a comment to an author of that script about those problems...
    But I think this script could be usefull even with those problems, at least if you have a long document to process. You can always put an extra page to first and last spread and keep it while exporting, and those non-deleted elements may be deleted manually...
    Address and instructions how to add it to Acrobat´s Document menu can be found at:

  • When exporting to PDF fonts are replaced

    I have had this happen several times when exporting to PDF from CS6 with no font errors, all the fonts have been changed in the PDF to another font. Not the default either, but just a different font altogether.
    Has anyone heard of this or experienced this?

    It is pretty easy to determine the fonts are wrong by visual inspection followed by the text edit tool in Acrobat X to confirm what font it is. The original fonts on this particular file were Gotham and they were replaced by Helvetica and our default missing font is Courier. I have found numerous threads with the same or similar problem dating back to September 2014 where they were blaming Indesign CC for the problem, with another person replying they had the same issue with CS6. Some of the advice given to them was to load the fonts locally rather than across a network to a server. The problem is not repeatable that is to say when you notice the issue with your PDF you open the file and export it again and the fonts are now correct with no changes to the file or the way you loaded the fonts. What is alarming is this is intermittent with no font warning while exporting or any further font warnings if the PDF is Normalized through Kodak Prinergy. It is like the postscript code is being written with a replacement font.
    I have enclosed the thread I found and we are going to load fonts locally to see if this helps, if you have any other advice it would be greatly appreciated.

  • Hyperlinks in illustrator work, export to pdf hyperlinks are gone...

    I created some figures in illustrator, added hyperlinks to the figures using the 'attributes' menu, added url etc. When clicking the object, i can see the url is appearing in the attributes window in illustrator. But, i want to export / save the illustrator file as an pdf file, with the figures still 'clickable' and using the urls. This doesn't seem to work.. Is it possible? and, how?
    thanks a lot

    Got this to work in Indesign using Hyperlink. Only catch is I had to use Indesign >> File  >> export >> (Interactive) PDF. Indesign >> File >> PDF Preset >> Smallest file size did not work.
    Draw a polygon with the pen tool in Indesign and assign the hyperlink to that, you can make it invisible (mine is the triangle).

  • Export to Pdf: Image not shown

    I'm a newbie with Crystal Report.
    I'm trying to export a loaded Crystal report document in C# to pdf.
    I have a image in the document but it will not show. The Image path is an url.
    If I export it to CrystalReport format it works fine and the image is shown.
    crdoc.ExportToDisk(ExportFormatType.CrystalReport, logPath + debugFileName + "_1.rpt");
    If I export it to Pdf format it will not work.
    crdoc.ExportToDisk(ExportFormatType.PortableDocFormat, logPath + debugFileName + ".pdf");
    I also tried to export the document like this
    ExportOptions crExportOptions = new ExportOptions();
    DiskFileDestinationOptions crDiskFileDestinationOptions = new DiskFileDestinationOptions();
    crDiskFileDestinationOptions.DiskFileName = logPath + debugFileName + "_2.pdf";
    crExportOptions.DestinationOptions = crDiskFileDestinationOptions;
    crExportOptions.ExportDestinationType = ExportDestinationType.DiskFile;
    crExportOptions.ExportFormatType = ExportFormatType.PortableDocFormat;
    crdoc.Export(crExportOptions);

    I found a solution to this problem:
    1200904 - A dynamic image from an HTTP source does not appear in a .NET application
    Symptom
    A dynamic image from an HTTP source does not appear in a .NET application deployed to a production system.
    Cause
    This problem occurs because the library file libcurl.dll is missing from the Business Objects bin directory. The libcurl.dll is not included in the .NET merge modules for Crystal Reports XI and Crystal Reports XI Release 2.
    Crystal Reports XI Release 2
    1. Find the libcurl.dll on the development system in C:\Program Files\Business Objects\Common\3.5\bin.
    2. Copy and paste libcurl.dll to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Business Objects\3.5\bin on the production system.

  • Report margin on export to PDF

    Hi,
    I am using SQL Server 2008, Project Server and Report Builder 3.0 and have just inherited an issue.
    I have two reports:
    D_Subreport: This report contains all logic and detail
    D_Report: A report referencing D_Subreport as a Subreport
    In one of our SharePoint project sites we run the D_Report, this has a dropdown parameter which allows multi selection. This works as expected - the report displays in the browser with no margins as per the designed report, on export to PDF it has a margin
    set, I'm not sure where this is set(?), but it looks good to us.
    The problem, when running the D_Subreport from another Project site (no multi select as it runs under the context of the project site) the reports displays as expected in the browser, however on export to PDF there are
    NO margins. It seems as though having a containing parent report creates margins within the PDF, running Subreport directly does not.
    How do I get it to display using the same margins as D_Report?
    Thanks

    Thanks.
    My problem was that one report had margins and the other didn't - Plus it turns out a Subreport's margins are ignored by the parent report. I had to create a duplicate report in our scenario.

  • PDF files are unsupported or damaged

    Every time I save a pdf document and then try to open it, a warning comes up that says it is either not a supported filed type or because it has been damaged.  That is the only response I get, and I get it from different websites.  I've tried updating Adobe and downloading a new version but it doesn't fix the problem.  I run Adobe on Mac OS X and I have the newest update.  Thanks

    Ok the link solved the issue.  When I was looking at an article using adobe, I was going "File - Save As" or "Export as PDF," which are two options that seemed to make sense.  However, if I stay in the webpage and click on the save icon it saves to my desktop and opens without crashing.  Thanks for the support Pat!

  • Font color changes when I export to pdf

    I'm using Pages 08 still, and I'm creating newsletters, should be simple enough.  But when I export to pdf, there are portions of the text that change color.  For example, I have white text and a brown background, and for some reason the text changes to black.  The Pages document still shows it as white, it only happens with the exported pdf document.  I triend deleting the brown background layer, re-exported, but the font color still changes.  Thoughts?

    You have not said what version of Pages '08 you are using nor what version of OSX.
    For problems like these usually simply updating both Pages '08 and the version of OSX to the latest versions, fixes the problem. That does not mean upgrading to Pages '09 or OSX 10.8.2, just the latest of those you have installed.
    Failing that you need to look at what color model your text is. Stick to the cmyk that OSX's pdfs use and avoid rgb which is screen color.

  • Errors in Export to PDF for web use - some images are lost when PDF is enlarged & in browser

    I have a multi-page PDF in InDesign CS6 that I want to export to view on the web. I need the file to stay under 2MB, and I need it to be crisp and nice enough to read the type on the page (as small as 9pt type).
    The errors that are occurring are the following:
    On some browsers, some images will entirely not show up. Some of the missing images have been pasted into the document, some placed. I cannot think of a correlation.
    When the PDF is enlarged (Adobe Acrobat X 10.1.10) to more than ~200%, there is one placed image that will mostly disappear. What I mean by "mostly" is that little bits of it are still visible, like I masked it carelessly or something. Since this is only occurring with one image it seems that it would be a problem with the image itself, yes? I'm all ears if I'm making a mistake. It is a placed .ai file with no link errors. Should I not be placing directly from illustrator? It renders wonderfully from 100% all the way up to 188%, and then if you enlarge by margins of 1% little bits of it disappear, almost a chunk at a time.
    The way I've been exporting is:
    File > Export > Adobe PDF (Print)
    Adobe PDF Preset: Smallest File Size
    Standard: None
    Compatinility: Acrobat 6 (PDF 1.5)
    Options: Optimize for Fast Web View
    Export Layers: Visible & Printable Layers
    Compression
    I always change the downsampling from [100/150] to [150/225]. I usually leave the JPG image quality low. I leave both bottom boxes checked (compress text and line art, crop image data to frames)
    Output
    Color Conversion: convert to destination
    Destination: sRGB 1EC61966-2.1
    Profile Inclusion Policy: Include Destination Profile
    However, after reading a few other forum questions I started trying to export as Acrobat 4 so that it would flatten. When I do that, problem #2 still persists although I didn't test problem #1. I haven't tried using Distiller, and using the "prepare for web publishing" action within Acrobat itself makes the PDF too artifacted.
    At the heart of my question is this: I am a young designer at an old company that is not necessarily keeping up with the times. I REALLY want to know what the best, most efficient way to export a pdf for web viewing is. Does this exist in InDesign, outside of InDesign? Does it exist at all? Tell me what I'm doing wrong so that I can get better!
    Thank you in advance.

    Show Large Images is a preference inside of Acrobat which might be disabled.
