CA Forum: Exporting
Hi
I am new to crystal reports.we are converting actuate reports to CR XI.While converting we are facing lot of formatting issues.
Normally we get pdf from actuate and we need to create report pdf from CR XI.
The problem is pdf which created from CR XI is not exactly matching with Actuate pdf though in designing  side everything is perfect
It would be great if you can give me a exact solution for this or do we have any alternate solution for this problem
I strucked up with this problem
Thanks in advance

Chaithu

Does "The problem is pdf which created from CR XI is not exactly matching with Actuate pdf though in designing  side everything is perfect " mean that when you export to PDF from the CR designer it looks right?
And then from some other, unexplained process it does not?
Try describing more fully your environment and when the problem exists.
There's already a language barrier, not supplying technical information makes it even more tricky.

  • Export to PDF problems

Much of our workflow (Prepress) involves taking in client files, laying them up in InDesign (either for sizing, position, or to build versions), and then submitting that file to our RIP.
Exporting to PDF is quick, allows for the preservation of transparency, allows you to bypass InDesign's faulty color management UI, and can be batched via plug-ins like Batch Output. But, InDesign can cause a number of issues with the resulting PDFs. CS4 seems to be particularly bad in handling subset fonts. It will create documents that appear in Acrobat 8 to have the "undefined character", but look perfectly fine in Acrobat 9 (ID CS4 is the culprit here - it doesn't happen in CS3).
I've had elements drop-out, transparencies disappear, and previews corrupted. Is there an export method that is stable and reliable? Or do we have to take a step backward to using the Print command and then Distilling?

What is to be done to ensure that PDFs from ID CS4 output correctly from a commercial printer?
We have recently had a costly problem with two PDF ads (producer: Acrobat Distiller 8.1.0 Win) that I placed in a ID CS4 layout (Mac) and then exported to a new PDF 1.3 (producer: PDF library 9).
Note: I have used the same ads before with InDesign CS3/Acrobat 8 workflow and they previewed and printed w/o problems!
The new exported PDF from InDesign CS4 looked correct in Acrobat 9, but this time a few random characters from subset fonts (Swiss and Zurich) were missing in the printed ads. This was one costly mistake!
After checking up the scarce information on this problem on the internet I opened the problematic InDesign CS4 PDF layout in Acrobat Reader 8 and the characters in the ads that previewed correctly in Acrobat 9, but were missing in print, were missing here as well!
Then I tried to print the ID CS4 PDF layout from both Acrobat 8 and 9 to a HP PostSript2 laser printer and got missing characters from Acrobat 8 but all correct characters from Acrobat 9.
This is a really disturbing problem since we have little control over how PDF ads that we get are produced as well as over the offset printing (RIP) workflow.
In a nutshell, PDF production process that once worked in CS3 does not work reliably any more in CS4 and the only variable changed is the CS3 to CS4 upgrade on our side.
    Please help!

  • Indesign CS4/CS3 and Export to PDF problems

    Hello,
I have been having problems with both Indesign CS3 and CS4 and exporting large documents to a PDF-file. Exporting halts with error messages like: "Failed to Export the PDF file" in CS4 or "Error encountered while reading JPEG image" in CS3.
Problem can be corrected by simply closing InDesign and restarting it and opening the same file again. It appears that problem occurs more often the file is large. Any suggestions how to fix this problem?
I'm using Vista 64-bit and have 8GB memory.

Handling of missing links HAS changed, and in my opinion for the worse, but at the request of users, so that missing links no longer open the Links panel automatically or ask you to update on opening as they used to, though you should still receive a warning that the links are missing UNLESS YOU HAVE TURNED IT OFF IN YOUR PREFERENCES. It's on by default and you will find the option under the file handling section.
The rationale is that many workflows do not require that links be intact to accomplish the current editing, and longer documents with hundreds of missing links used to take many minutes to open while ID searched, essentially costing those users lots of money.
IF you have stored the links in the same directory as the .indd file, and IF you have moved the entire directory and IF you have enabled finding missing links when opening files, InDesign will find and update the locations for the links when the file is opened. If ID is unable to locate a link, because it is not in the current directory or a subfolder, you will see a warning message (in the past you would have had the option to browse for the missing files), and you must open the links panel if you wish to fix them manually.
In my opinion this is a very acceptable situation, and a great benefit to all types of workflows. I need to know links are modified or missing, so I've left that enabled. Those who don't need to know are no longer bothered or delayed. I suggest you pay a visit to the preferences and make sure that missing/modified checks are enabled, and if you are still having problems then your links aren't stored in the same directory, and that has always been an issue in ID when things get moved.

  • Crystal Reports 8.5 export to PDF problem

    Hi Guys,
I have an application developed in VB6 using a crystal reports 8.5 version and I'm having some problems to export to PDF. If I see the data on the Crystal Reports 8.5 designer It will export just fine, but if I try to do the same thing it will export only some information to the pdf file.
This problem is just happening on rpt with Image Object and I can't export the reports where image do not exist. This image is being loaded from an access 97 database. It is a 10 years old program.
Hope to get this issue solved.
    Kind Regards,
    Manuel Rocha

    Hi Dear,
Here I m also facing the similar problem with the crystal report 8.5 :
Crystal Report (8.5) is not working on win7/windows 2008 64 bit system
My application is a vb application and I am using Crystal report 8.5. It is working fine on 32 bit system and 64 bit system of Windows 2003 server. When I run the same application either on win7 64 bit or on 2008 64 bit, report does not open.
I am using vb script to access the database.
Part of the code written in the VB script file is as follows:
    Dim objrsRecordSet                 'As RecordSet
        Dim strSQL                         'As String
'**** Open Database Connection using the parameters passed from the main program
        Set dbConnection = CreateObject("ADODB.Connection")
        dbConnection.ConnectionString = "Provider=SQLOLEDB;Server=" & mstrServer & ";uid=" & mstrUserName _
                                        & ";pwd=" & mstrPassword & ";Database=" & mstrDatabase & ";"
        dbConnection.Open
        dbConnection.CommandTimeout = 200
        dbConnection.Properties("Enable Fastload").Value = True
Basically we have two visual basic projects developed in VB 6.0 language: let’s say
      1. Diapp (we consume the report.dll in this application, in order to generating the reports)
      2. Adacrystalapp (which is used for making the report.dll)
Diapp application generating the reports on windows-XP(32 bit machines) without any problems but when I run the same application on 64 bit machines(win7/Vista…etc) report is not generating.
If I run the both applications (Diapp, Adacrystalapp) in debug mode then reports are generating on 64 bit machines (win7/vista) also without any problems.
Please help me out with this issue, i will appreciate for your response.

  • Insert HTML and export to PDF problem (ID CS6)

    Greetings,
A new feature in Indesign CS6 is to insert HTML snippets in an Indesign document via the Object > Insert HTML option.
This will insert a frame in the page containing the rendered HTML content.
There are several issues that I have encountered using this feature in Indesign CS6. Can anyone advise if these are bugs/ux issues and provide any alternatives/solutions.
    1) After inserting any HTML content (even the default "This is an HTML snippet"), when I try to export to PDF format (Interactive or Print), the  HTML content or rather its frame container is rendered in black. I've noticed that the HTML content is exported as a image so all I get are black rectangles.
There is no problem when I try to export to HTML format.
    2) There seems to be a paste size limit in the Insert HTML text area/field as I can only paste 16566 characters of HTML code. (Haven't checked yet if the limit is in characters or tags or newlines).
    3) How can you set such that the HTML object frame will span multiple pages for cases where the HTML content is larger than the height of the page? Since it is not a text frame, I can't find a threading feature or a possible workaround. Or is the "Insert HTML" feature not really applicable for PDF export workflows but only for epubs?
    Thanks

Oh ok. I guess direct HTML import is still not possible in ID CS6 (either import as XML or convert to DOC/RTF) for PDF export.
    Thanks

  • InDesign Export to PDF Problem

I have InDesign CS4, and today I am having a problem with exporting PDF files. I was using Gill Sans font, and when I exported the file, some of the text turned into little whit boxes. I have no idea why this is happening. Any suggestions? It was just working correctly yesterday.

So I tried exporting a new PDF test document with a new font, Helvetica Neue and none of the fonts exported correctly in the PDF. Does anyone have any suggestions or a way I could contact Adobe for customer support?
I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling Indesign twice and nothing is fixing this problem.

  • CS5 Book palette export to pdf problems

Exporting a book containing 6 chapters through the book palette to pdf, the second and third chapters export as single pages even though spreads are selected. What could cause this erratic output? All chapters use the same master pages, style palettes and page numbering.

The chapter that causes the problem only has 2 pages which are not facing pages so when exported to spreads only shows single pages. However, the next chapter which has 3 pages does export properly when exported alone.
Sending spreads to client for approval before going to print.

  • Exporting to PDF problem - font turning to rectangles

    Hi
when exporting from Indesign CS4 to PDF I am recieving feedback from a number of clients that they are seeing text as rectangles.
This appears to be happening with one particular font (Meta Pro). PDFing to earlier versions of Acrobat doesn't seem to make any difference either.
I can resolve this by turning text to outlines but don't want to have to do this all the time and never had this problem with CS2
I am running CS 4 on Windows XP Professional, version 2002, Service pack 3.
    Any help gratefully received!

Very strange - most likely they don't have Meta Pro and the font wasn't embedded. Are you exporting or printing to postscript then distilling?
If you're distilling then make sure that Distiller knows to Always Embed that font.
Either way check the PDF and go to File>Document Properties and check the Fonts and make sure it says Embedded Subset (or at least embedded) beside the font.

  • Illustrator CS 2 batch export to PDF problem

I am trying to get Illustrator to batch export a number of EPS files to PDF files but I am having a problem.  The first file will save-as fine and come out as a PDF but each successive file saves as a .ai file and not as a PDF.
The action is saved as follows:
    Open
Save as (I selected High Quality Print as the PDF preset)
    Close.
When I Batch run the action, the first one comes out as expected but thereafter they are .ai files.  Is there something I am missing?

  • Exporting to pdf problems

Whenever I export a document to a PDF, it saves the photo sideways. But it prints the right way from the pages doc.  Note the sceen shot I've attached here.  help?

Hard for us to tell which way is up.
This has been reported previously as being related for some odd reason to the quality setting of the pdf Export.
If that is the case my guess is that in resaving the image after reducing its resolution Pages/OSX 10.9 is failing to recognise previously set rotations.
Run a series of tests with annotated bitmap graphics, (a recognisable Arrow or bit of text would be good) with all the possible options of rotation and resolution.

  • Export to PDF Problem

I have a Report that was created using Crystal Reports Developer. The report prints invoices (text) and also images (scanned .jpg) files.  The report uses the oracle OCI database driver.
When I run this report from Crystal Reports Developer and export it to a pdf, the size of the pdf is around 12 meg.
When I run this exact same report but using Crystal Reports for Eclipse and change the datasource programatically to use the oracle jdbc driver, the size of the pdf is  around 56 meg!
What would cause such a drastic file size change?  Both pdf files have the same number of pages so the reports look identical.  There is just something about the way the pdf documents are generated that is causing the size difference.
    Things to note:
         Database: Oracle 10g
Crystal Reports For Eclipse : 1.0.2.v795
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

When you export do you have the options selected? if not select..
"Export Page header and page footers" and ""Simplify Page headers"

  • Any news on the export to PDF bug?

Way back since the launch of CS4 theres are alot of people experencing problems with vector paths and fonts when exporting both from InDesign and Illustrator CS6 to pdf. I've read some debates here too. It's a global issue and Adobe has never really adressed the problem exept from time to time where they have told the public to wait for an update and/or new release. Nevertheless the export to pdf problems never seem to stop. The problems has some variational characters depending on what OS you have. Any news on bugfixes or scripts that can be used to fix the export problems?

I have the same problem gabbygo. After going back and forth on this topic here on this forum someone decided to close the discussion I started. There is much resistance from Adobe on this matter and they do not feel very comfortable when the bugs are made visible by customers. Strange cause that's actually how a software company should improve. They should be embrasing the opportunity to enhanse the product instead of approaching their paying customers as poison as soon as they identify chronic problems and bugs. There are also a great deal of bug problems with epubs. You can do a search on that topic both here and on Google. People seem to struggle a great deal with that as well, but those bugs are of course newer than the export to pdf bugs. It's sad the way things are developing, Adobe have become a very closed organisation not willing to deal with wide spread application bugs, sticking the head into the sand is hardly a wise solution.
I'm sorry I can't help you out on this. I wish I had some answers myself. Let's hope they will produce the fix you are asking for.

    Hi again Raja!
I did as you recommended and installed HTTPWatch and below is the outcome of that program. It is the exact string with the only exception of obfuscated servernames and portnumbers. The last part that begins with "sap_ep_baseurl=" makes me suspicious, is that part really correct? It looks like it's lacking things.

  • Adobe Captivate 5 - Problem with scoring with Quiz exported to PDF

    Hello,
I have created several review quizzes that have been exported to pdf and uploaded to the internet. They are elementary school quizzes that are listed on a canned school web hosting site that only allows uploads in common formates such as Microsoft Word and pdf.
I tested these pdf quizzes with no problems and from my  computers they still work fine; however some people are having problems with the scoring element. Some - not all questions are not tabulated correctly in the end review section. I have been told that the questions were answered correctly but the end review showed some questions as wrong or not answered. The quizzes are reveiw only and no reporting or LMS is used.
Has anyone else seen this? I had a feeling that perhaps the adobe reader was at fault, but so far everyone is using reader version 9.
One of the quizzes can be found here.. http://www.germantownschools.org/faculty/jwoger/4th_math_topic_1_quiz[1].pdf

    Hi,
I have since my initial post been told that certain elements of the quiz slides are also not working. Correct answers have a sound clip that plays when the "correct" option is selected.  This is not working for some users. Like I said I have no problem with the pdf quiz from any  of the computers I use and don't know why it doesn't work for others.
