Exporting to pdf results in humungus sized file!

I wrote a thesis and want to export it to pdf for webb use. I do so in good quality, not better or best. The result is a 120 Mb sized file. I do not have many pictures in it.  Why the big size? Some pictures are inserted in the layout as pdf. Does this create the problem?

Changed all pdf pictures to jpg. solved.

  • Indesign crashes when exporting to pdf with .eps and .ai files placed

    Hi everyone,
    I have an Indesign file with 4 placed Illustrator .eps file placed. Whenever I try to export to pdf, it starts to export and then when it reaches a page with a .eps file on it, it hovers for a minute and then Indesign crashes. I decided to save these 4 .eps files as .ai files and replace them. Now when I export to pdf, it gets through the export and a pdf file is created but immediately after, Indesign crashes.
    Is this a sign of corrupt .eps or .ai files or a corrupt Indesign file? All I know is that if I remove all the image files, then the ID file is fine, ie. it exports and ID doesn't crash.
    Is there a way to test either .eps, .ai or Indesign files for corruption, and if they are corrupt is it possible to repair them?
    Appreciate any help offered.

    You haven't said which version of Indesign you are using or other specs, but I would bet that you are using CS2 on an Intel Mac. CS2 runs under Rosetta on an Intel Mac, and I have found that memory problems are often the result of crashes like the ones you have described. My advice is to stay away from EPS files and use AI or PSD, especially if the file is a bitmap or photo. This has eliminated all the crashes that used to occur on my system. As far as the crashes after making PDF files, I don't have a solution other than restarting Indesign after exporting a PDF file or two at a time. The same Rosetta memory problem seems to mess it up for me. Mine would just exit from Indesign with no warning. Hope this helps.

  • Sharing keynote file as a pdf results in a corrupt file?

    I have added graphics to the keynote presentation by copying from Preview.app.
    When I share and export as  PDF, it crashes acrobat and other pdf viewers on
    Windows and Linux.
    This is a reproducible error and has happened to a couple of my colleagues recently.
    This is a new bug as I have used this workflow many times in the past without problems.
    How can I avoid this? Is this a bug?

    Is your problem possibly related to the Open Type Font Problem occuring in OS X 10.6.7 and later?

    I have no fix at the moment, only to use a Mac running an older OS X installed. The PDF-Creation for iWork Files works there correctly

  • How can I export the query result into access(*.mdb) file?

    Dear all:
    I want to export the query result displayed in jsp into excel file
    and access file. And I have exported the result into excel format successfully, only one line should be added in the head of Jsp:
    <%@ page contentType="application/vnd.ms-excel; charset=gb2312" %>
    But how can I export it in access(*.mdb) file? I have replaced "excel"
    with "access". But it can't achive my goal.
    What should I do to achieve my goal?
    Thanks!

    The only reason your Excel export works is that Excel knows how to interpret comma separated values as an input file format. Access has no such beast.
    If you absolutely must provide info in an mdb, one solution would be to create an ODBC datasource pointing to an empty mdb, then push data into it using the jdbc:odbc bridge, then make a copy of the file and stream it down to the browser. You may run into some ugly file locking items here - set the ODBC connection so it is not shared, and that might help.
    This one is going to be ugly.
    I suppose another approach would be to write a simple VB applicatin that uses automation to create an MDB, then stream that file down to the browser from your servlet. That would almost certainly be faster than the ODBC approach.

  • [ASAP] Need Help Exporting to PDF - Line weight problems (Illustrator file)

    So, I've drawn some stuff in Illustrator which I've then placed in InDesign.
    It all looks right on screen, but when I export the document to pdf (Adobe PDF Presets: High Quality Print) the Illustrator stuff appears to lose the line weight settings. This is easily noticeable on some really thin lines that print much thicker than they were supposed to.
    I gotta be missing something when exporting to pdf... 'cause if I export to Jpeg everything comes out right. No more line weight problems! The question is: what the hell am I doing wrong???
    Please, somebody help me out.
    Thx!

    1. How are you printing?
    I'm using one of the Adobe PDF Export Presets: High Quality Print.
    2. What are you using to determine the line weight?
    What do you mean? I talking about the stroke size.
    3. Have you tried opening the PDF in Illustrator to see what the reported line weight is?
    I've tried it now and it looks just fine! Just like it was supposed to! All the line weights are correct.
    4. This might just be a limitation of your printer or printer driver.
    I don't think so. I have never had this problem up until now!
    I'm starting to think it has something to do with some Acrobat preferences settings...

  • Converting FM to PDF results in thumbnail-sized text area in the PDF

    I'm having an issue with converting FM files to PDF. I'm using all the same settings I had been using previously, but now my PDFs appear with the text and images smooshed together in a thumbnail version of the source page. The PDF page size is 8.5 x 11, which is the size of my source FM file. So the thumbnail appears in the middle of a regular sized page in the PDF. (I'm sorry this is difficult to explain what's happening, which is probably why I can't find anything after searching the forums).
    Does anyone know what is going on? I've got an aggressive deadline and troubleshooting this issue is getting me no where.

    To help out in trouble shooting, could you supply details on your FM and Acrobat versions, and your OS?
    Also if you're using the full version of Acrobat, or the limited version that ships with FM.
    And at a really basic level, is your system default printer set to the Acrobat printer.
    And in FM, on the Print dialog box, is there any chance that you have the Thumbnail option activated?

  • Export to PDF change default "Save As" file name

    Hello,
    I have an asp.net application where I use a CrystalReportViewer. The user runs the report via the application.  They then click on on the the Export button in the viewer with PDF as the format.  This launches the PDF file.  When I click the Save icon, the Save As dialog box comes up.  The default name in this window is the name of the .aspx file.  I want to be able to specify what this file name should be instead of it defaulting to the name of the asp page in which the report was launched.
    I do not want to recreate the Export button, I am trying to find a way to do this with existing crystal functionality.  Can anyone please help??  Thank you!!

    Hi there,
    I believe I may have found the solution!
    You will need to set your CrystalReportViewer.ID property to what you need your filename to be.
    In my example:
    CrystalReportViewer.ID = "NewPDFFileNamehere";
    The .PDF file extension will be added automatically!
    Just note, you need to set the above property ASAP in code - meaning - It should be the first thing you do before having any other code attached, read into or from CrystalReportViewer.
    Hope it helps!

  • ID not exporting to PDF part of an AI file

    Hello,
    I have an AI file linked into my ID file. The AI file is a header with my contact info and logo, it is used in multiple documents. When I export this one particular document it does not export the logo, only the text. My other documents export just fine and this one has been fine in previous iterations. I am on CS5.
    Any thoughts?
    Thank you!!!!!

    This is one of those "hard to say" problems. Try placing the art again in a new frame -- don't reuse the current frame. Any time I've seen this it usually is something wonk withthe particular frame. Copy/paste a working instance will sometimes work, too.

  • Using my Mac all pdfs result in zero byte files

    I have uninstalled and reinstalled with the same result.

    This sounds very alarming. Please help us understand what you are seeing as it is not typical and may even be unique. For instance,
    * are these old PDFs which used to be fine but which now are not?
    * is it new PDFs that you are making (how)?
    * how do you see that they are zero bytes?
    * what Mac OS?
    * anything else you can think of especially, other strange things starting around the same time.

  • Exporting a String Array to an HTML file

    Hey everyone..I'm currently making lots of progress in my project...but right now I've been trying to make a button that exports my search results to an html file...basically what I've made is a search engine to search webcrawler files...
    The result list I get (which is actually a string array), I want to export to html so I can open that html file and find all the links that were found in the search I made..What I have so far is this, but it's not working yet, any help? :
        private class exportListener implements ActionListener
            public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e)
                String[] result = parent.getResult();
                if(result == null)
                    return;
                JFileChooser chooser = new JFileChooser();
                chooser.setAcceptAllFileFilterUsed(false);
                chooser.setFileFilter(new HtmlFileFilter());
                chooser.setDialogType(JFileChooser.SAVE_DIALOG);
                int returnVal = chooser.showSaveDialog(parent);
                if(returnVal == JFileChooser.CANCEL_OPTION)
                    return;
                File fl = chooser.getSelectedFile();
                String path = fl.getPath() + ".html";
                searchIF.exportResultAsHtml(path);
                System.out.println(path);
        private class HtmlFileFilter extends FileFilter
            public String getDescription(){return "Html";}
            public boolean accept(File pathname)
                String name = pathname.getPath();
                //Just checking to see if the filename ends with html.
                if (name.toLowerCase().substring(name.lastIndexOf('.') + 1).equals("html"))
                    return true;
                return false;
            }

    Actually..nevermind, sorry.

  • InDesign 2014 CC crashes every time I try to export to pdf

    This started happening after I updated to OSX Yosemite. When I try to export a pdf (just a 4 page file, not even any images) InDesign crashes. The Problem report says :
    Application Specific Information:
    *** Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSInvalidArgumentException', reason: 'NSXPCInterface: Unable to get extended method signature from Protocol data (NSObject / release). Use of clang is required for NSXPCInterface.'
    Performing @selector(dispatchMenuSelection:) from sender DVAMacMenuItem 0x6180000f9b00
    terminating with uncaught exception of type NSException
    abort() called

    This is why I never do upgrade installs. First thing to try is trashing your
    prefs. If that doesn¹t work, uninstall, run the cc cleaner tool and
    reinstall. Last but not least, wipe the drive and do a clean install of the

  • Exporting Data Quality Statistics Into An Excel File Or Database

    Hi,
               I would like to ask if it is possible to export the data profiling statistics into an excel file / flat file or a database table.
               The output required by our development team is that we would like to be able to manipulate and review the data profiling outside of the Data Quality Services User Interface.
              I'm aware that after the cleansing of a specific set of data is that you can save/export the output results into an excel file or database, however the feature I'm looking for is for the data profiling statistics itself.
     Mostly information on the knowledge base.  Specifically, how many new records this specific column has and how many unique data and invalid data this column has and etc.
              The reason for this is that so we can control and track the data profiling information and be a bit more flexible in creating reports and presenting the data.  Using the DQS user interface would not suit our needs
    for the project.
               Sorry if this has been asked before but i've tried searching around and couldn't find any information regarding this functionality.
    Thanks!

    I'm not too sure where they are stored, but you could use the directories shown in transaction AL11 so find them.

  • InCopy hangs when exporting to pdf

    Hi there,
    We have a few files that are having this issue in that when the InCopy user tries to export to pdf, the program hangs. The InDesign user can export a pdf without issue. The files do not have a known font issue and it's happened on small as well as larger documents. This doesn't happen with all of our files - just a handful... which some are pretty simple so not sure why it's happening...
    Any ideas?

    Dear Jeff,
    Please go through the settings:
    When using the new Function of 'Exporting to PDF'/'PDF Generation' the following two settings need to be applied/checked:
    1.  Path needs to be defined via 'Administration->System
        Initialisation->General Settings->Path->Attachment Folder
    2.  The Windows User needs to have write/modify permission for the folder  defined under 1.
        (To check if the permission is correct, access the folder and check if a new file could be saved)
    In case this does not work please do let us know, does this happen also when you export to word.
    Moreover, is this user or machine specific?

  • InDesign CS4 - Export to PDF - haze in transparent frame area

    Hello
    I noticed when I export a PDF for print, when the file has an image which I applied a drop shadow, there is a haze in the entire frame area. I am concerned about submitting this PDF for print and the printed item will also have this rectangular haze. This has happened in quite a few documents. I am using an Illustrator image in the Frame.
    Any ideas? Thank you in advance.

  • Export to PDF from reports page

    I have a report saved in .tdr format that contains multiple pages.  When I try to export to PDF, it only exports the first page of the 7 that are contained in the report view.  The only way I can seem to get all the pages exported to PDF format in a single file is to use the script command PicPDFExport call.  It does not seem like you should have to use a script to export multi page reports from within the report view.
    Does anyone know how you can export all the pages into a single pdf file without using the script command? (i.e. why does selecting File->PDF Export only export the first page from the report view screen?)

    Jervin
    I am using version 10.2 and yes when I stated mulitple pages, I did mean sheets.
    I did notice this morning that if I dont have any of my data loaded (i.e. report contents empty) and I select the File->PDF Export, then it appears to export all sheets to the pdf.  However, if I load my data and then refresh the report and re-try to perform the export function, then it only exports the first sheet.
    Not sure why having data loaded or not makes a difference so I have attached both the .tdr report and .tdm/.tdx data so if you could investigate why this is occurring I would appreciated it.  Also, as I mentioned before if I use the script command  PicPDFExport then it appears to export all the sheets but I dont believe I should have to use a script command to perform this function when a menu option is available.
