Exporting to SWF: embed SWFs on pages?

Hi there
I've been experimenting with the export to SWF option in ID CS4. I was hoping I'd be able to place individual SWFs on each page of my ID document and then export the whole document as a sinlge SWF, giving me a nicely interactive publication. The SWFs that I've placed on the pages don't play in the final document, though.
Any ideas about fixing this?
I've looked at all the Movie Options for the SWFs that I've placed and the options available at export and nothing seems to have helped.
I'd appreciate any thoughts.

I was hoping to take advantage of InDesign's page transitions to present the SWFs, but it looks like I may have to work out how to do it all in Flash instead.
I do a lot of Flash work but have only briefly experimented with the ID exporter, so there could be something I'm missing. I'm guessing to get what you are after to work will be difficult depending on your ActionScript skills. Unfortunately when you export an fla, the fla does not include the transition code—your pages get placed sequentially on the timeline with no transitions. There is the bitmap representation of the swf and it wouldn't take much to load your swfs into position, but you'll have to build your own page flip transitions.

I have no trouble viewing other websites with (most likely), flashfiles.

In newer versions of Flash Pro, you can export to HTML5 Canvas, that's probably what they're talking about: Flash Professional Help | Creating and publishing an HTML5 Canvas document
.FLV and .SWF are Flash formats that won't show up on iOS (or an ever increasing number of other mobile devices). Mobile Flash was killed by Adobe a couple years ago, so the number of mobile devices that can see it is dwindling rapidly, don't use those formats if you want your viewers on mobile devices to see your content.

If the swf has actionscript in it, then you cannot embed it and still have it work (it will lose its code), so you need to load the file dynamically instead.

Use a panoramic photo flash file in indesign and export it to a swf file for flipbook

i haven a 360° panoramic flash file.
when i put this file in indesign and make an export to pdf i can see my panoramic photo.
my problem:
i want to export this file to swf to use it as a flipbook.
but now, my panoramic flash file doesn`t work.
is this possible?

Even when exporting as an interactive pdf.
My problem is that I am trying to figure out how to export my swf embedded file into an interactive pdf.
I have created an interactive presentation with buttons, effects etc. After which I exported to swf so that all the effects work.
But when placing the swf file back into indesign and exporting again as an interactive pdf it doesn't work at all, all I get is a white screen. (I need a pdf for clients basically, they dont want any swf or flash files.)
Even though after placing the swf file, in the media window I ticked play on page load as well as chose a cover image for the swf file. Still just a white screen when exporting.
To repeat, I need to know how to convert my swf file into an interactive pdf.
Any pointers please would be great I have some swf presentations I need to change into pdf as soon as possible or before tomorrow to be exact before our monthly meeting with clients.

SWF into photo gallery page, but thumb links stopped

(PC question). I have a swf header for several web pages, and want a gallery page with the same header. (The header links work fine). The following is a portion of ThumbnailFrame.htm showing how I put the SWF in (using parts of the SWF htm). The page worked fine until the swf was added. Am I going about this wrong? Should I be trying to add the gallery index.htm to the header?? I'm many hours into this and stumped! Ideally, I would like to do the HTML code in the custom gallery style. I've read in this forum that Aperture has a setting to make it's photos available to other iApps, see this post, via the Media browser but not galleries created by it in the Web Snippet menu, see the last post in this topic.

Problem with embed swf in fla

I am trying to embed an SWF into an FLA (My website)
I want to embed an SWF movie on page 4 of my website along with other content.
There are a lot of tutorials on the web, but to be honest, I get so confused, a lof of them have errors so I figured i'd ask here if anyone knows of a good, simple tutorial on how to embed SWF in FLA.

The mask would be a separate layer that sits above the layer your animation is in. So if you right clicked the layer the animation is in and selected mask, then that's not masking it, it turning it into a mask. What you want to do is create another layer above it and draw a rectangle that would be the same size as the stage of the swf. Then if you right click that layer it and select mask, the rectangle will be the mask for the anoimation--allowing only what is beneath it to be viewed.

.swf file in html page with WebLogic Server in Netscape

I am not able to embed .swf (flash) files in html page when accessed thru' Weblogic server in Netscape Ver. 5 and below but supported in Netscape6.0 and IE. When run as html page without WebLogic server, it is working well. Please suggest a solution for this problem to my mail id.

I've had a quick trawl round the web, but can't find an answer to this specific problem - will let you know if i discovr anything.
Lots of people seem to have problems because the relative url address has to be in relation to the html page, not the loading swf. All my files are in the same folder, so it;s not that. Also, the problem occurs whether running from my hard drive or web server.

HTML to embed SWF

Well got my portfolio site finished in Flash but neither of
the size of the layout (600x800p) and therefore sharpness of the
text publishes properly - I was trying to get around embedding the
swf in html but I guess I'm gonna have to.. anyone got any inspired

Linking from SWF files to web pages

Hi
I'm using the latest Flash CS3.
Basically, I want to link from the SWF file to a webpage.
Here's what I've done so far.
Created the FLA file, imported the quicktime movie into it
etc etc.
I've then added a behaviour by clicking on the inserted
movie, then BEHAVIORS >WEB> GO TO WEB PAGE> and filled in
all the relevant text for the link.
Then I have saved the file. Then I have published then OK.
I have embeded the SWF file in a web page, but when I click
on the movie, it shows there's a link, but it won't link to the
webpage.
What am I doing wrong? I dont understand.
Can't get my head around this!
When I go to the FLA file, then publish preview > flash,
and the movie appears on its own, the link works... but the SWF
file doesn't.
Basically what do I need to do to make it work.
The coding I am using in my web-page is:

You cannot embed an html page in an swf page in any case. If you import an swf with the intent to embed it into another swf, you can embed it, but if it has any actionscript it will be lost. The only way to incorporate an swf into another swf without actionscript and still have its actionscript work is to copy the main tineline of the swf (ala its fla file) into a movieclip and copy that movieclip into the other swf.

Can't play more than 15 swf files on a page

My web site has a page that has over 15 swf sound files on it. Safari won't play the sounds when buttons pushed.

Why is this. Why only 15 swf's playable? Internet Explorer has no problem.
Please help, someone. BTW, this restriction also applies to Opera and Firefox..but not to the dreaded IE...ugh

Merkinman...Want person to slowly test himself on the diffeent pieces. Notice how he can guess, then draw across teh rectangular box to see if he is right, then click on play buton to hear the name as a reinmforcement. I don't know how I could do this will only one swf. Do you? If this could be done, all my problems sould be solved.

I applied a template to a page with SWFs and now that page does not play the SWFs. Why?

I applied a template to a page with SWFs and now that page does not play the SWFs (just a blank area where the SWF should be). When I detach the template it will play the flash file. This site will eventually be updated via Adobe Contribute. And I just discovered that when applying a template to a page that uses HTML datasets (Master/Detail),it no longer reads the Master/detail regions and displays a blank. Any thoughts?

Firstly, you shouldn't really 'apply' a template to a page, you should create a child page by going to FILE>NEW>Page from Template. Too many things can happen when applying a template the way you are doing it. eg:; editable and non-editable regions not matching up and being asked where to place these regions and in all likelihood, you end up with 2 or more of the same region.
When a swf file is inserted into a page, a corresponding Scripts folder is written automatically is stored in the root of the site - it is also linked to in the head of the document. What I believe is happening is that when you apply a template to the page, the Template has no idea that there is a swf file on the page and is not aware of the correct link to the Scripts folder. If you do a test and add the swf file to the template page itself, I bet that the links to the swf and the scripts folder are correct - because DW knows the correct path to the script file. Hence the reason the page probably works when you detach it from a template.

Help with inserting SWF file into .html page

I created a photo gallery in Flash CS5.5, using the advanced photo gallery template. It works fine as a standalone SWF file but it's not displaying properly when I try and insert it into the Gallery page of my website.
The thumbnails are showing as blank white boxes and the main image holder isn't showing at all, though the controls beneath it are showing. The SWF file and all the images are stored in site/images/gallery/ and my Gallery page is in the root. What's going on here? Can anyone help please?

If you are storing any of your Flash assets in sub-folders and having problems... it's most likely because of pathing problems. For review:
Pathing issues
Almost always when it works on the local machine and not the server, it's a pathing problem.
You can put your Flash related files in whatever folders you want, they do NOT have to be in the root, they do NOT all have to be in the same folder. But if you have a problem and if sticking them all in the root folder works, then you know that the issue was a pathing problem.
Just remember that paths used in the .swf become relative to the Web page on which the .swf is placed, NOT it’s physical location. So for example, if your .swf is in the flash/data folder and you use that .swf on a Web page in the root folder, you are in effect, removing that .swf from flash/data and putting it in root. So if the .swf is loading any related files (xml, images, video, etc), the path used inside the .swf to load the .xml file has to be relative to it's new location in root and then back down into flash/data. This is true even though when testing the .swf by itself, it can be inside flash/data and work just fine, since relative to it's location, the path is just fine, they are in the same folder. But if that same path is used when the .swf is placed on a page two folder levels up, the relative path has changed, the old "same folder" path will not work.
In fact if you are placing the .swf on a web page in a different folder than the .swf is stored in, and that .swf calls external assets, then direct clicking and opening of the .swf in it’s folder should NOT work! That’s because the paths to the external assets should be relative to the Web page and not the physical location of the .swf.
So just be sure that you use addresses relative to the final Web page locations (not physical file locations) and you can put the Flash related files in what ever folders you want.
