Exporting to tape PAL problem

Hi all.
I am trying to export a timeline to tape from premiere pro CS4 to my Canon XL-2 camera.
The timeline settings are DV PAL, 25 fps, 16:9 aspect ratio, lower field first. I live in Australia and therefore have a PAL camera.
These are the settings that I used when using CS3 and exporting to tape was fine. The export process seems to run fine but when I review the tape there is nothing but black.
Premiere pro can control and capture from my camera fine, but when I try exporting it seems to show that it is working but results in nothing being taped.
I am running windows vista 64 bit, 4GB ram with a q6600 processor.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Regards.

PROBLEM RESOLVED:
By fiddling with the device control properties the problem was resolved. Though I am not sure which setting corrected the problem, it may have been changing the device type from generic to canon XL1S (which is very similar to the XL-2).

  • CS3, exporting to tape has problems with more than two video tracks

Well, not quite, but that's the best I could do in the subject line.
I record multiple performances and edit scenes from among them.  At times, this results in three or four video tracks on the timeline at once.  Each track is 100% opaque, so only the top Enabled track shows.  By Enabling or Disabling the various tracks, I can get the sequence I want.
And the sequence plays back fine in the Monitor window.  But when I try to Export it to tape, as soon as I get to such a place, the image hiccups around the same small number of frames (think of the video equivalent of an audio sample).
It's not the number of video tracks.  I can add Image Mattes on a third video track operating on the two below.  I can add any number of titles on different tracks.  They need to render, but then they export to tape perfectly.
What's different about three or more .avi tracks, even when they are Disabled?

Thanks, Jim, for your reply to this and other threads.  (Warning:  I had two other questions — been saving them up for awhile — that I'll post shortly.  It was too late already last night).
    > AVIs need to be "read" from the hard drive and can create a bottleneck depending on certain conditions.
Agreed, but unless there is partial opacity in the top Enabled track, only one track at a time is exported.  And in the cases I cited, the unused clips were Disabled.  No need for Premiere to read them at all.  I assume the state of each clip is part of the Project.
Ah well, I was only curious if I was missing something obvious, or perhaps it was a known bug that would be addressed.  Apparently the additional resources needed for tape export push Premiere over some edge.  Remember, I can watch (even Preview) the sequence in the Monitor window without seeing this artifact.
    > Render before exporting to tape is SOP.  Go with that.
Naturally.  And I do.  And if I didn't, Premiere would do it for me automatically before opening the Export to Tape window.
Thanks again.  On to the next thread.

  • AUDIO PROBLEMS when exporting to tape

    Hi!
    ADOBE PRO CS4 on VISTA.
    a)  Produced my film on timeline and there everything is perfect. Audio and video are fully synchronised.
However: when I export to tape, playing the exportresult, audio comes about 10 seconds later then the corresponding video! Already from the very first clip!
I rerenderd audio and Work area a few times and also tried Clip -> Audio Options-> Render and Replace but nothing seems to work out.
This is the second time I have this problem.
    b)  When there is no solution for this problem ( an awfull idea!!) I think I have to Unlink Video and Audio for all my clips (about a thousand of them) and then shift the audiopart about 10 seconds to the left.
I found out that "group-unlink" with the help of the ALT knob (an advice I read about here) doesn't function with me !!
Is there a solution for these problems? Thanks a lot!

  • Premiere CS 5.0.3 problem export to tape via firewire

    hi
My problem is that i can't able to export a sequence into a tape dv by firewire
    I use premiere cs5.0.3, matrox rtx2hd, win 7 and a sony hvr-M15J
I've not problem to IMPORT tape from a matrox sequence neither from a premiere sequence but I CAN'T export to tape (i use firewire connecting my hvr-15j to matrox rtx2)
    My workflow
I create a premiere sequence, the device control is online, in sequence setting>Playback setting i set DV 25i (720 x 576) but  when i start to export to tape my sony hvr start to rec, timecode going on but it's all black and no audio
i try different setting in playback setting but nothing change, what's the problem?
Device control is online but maybe i have to change setting ofsony  hvr-M15j ? The strange thing is that I've not problem to import dv tape
    please help me
    thanks

Matrox has no bearing on this - RTX2 just passes video through. It uses Adobe settings for capture and export.
Make sure your playback settings reflect what you are trying to export. Try this:
    1. External Device set to DV, etc.
    2. Audio button set to "External Device Audio"
    3. External Device set to your DV device, not None.
    4. MPE set to software only in the Project panel.

  • PE 2 Export to tape problem

Could anyone please give me an answer to this, in Elements 2, if I export to tape it plays the timeline out to the tape ok, when you play the tape back in the camera everything seems alright, If I then try to capture the said tape, I can’t detect any Audio, Video is fine, although there is sound on the camera
If I export to tape in Premiere Pro that tape can be captured Video and Audio.
Why is it not working in PE 2, I’m sure it used to, very embarrassing when I sent a tape to someone and he couldn’t capture sound, he rang to say there is sound on the camera, but won’t capture it, then I tried at my end and found there was this problem.

Because of the way video is streamed over FireWire from a miniDV, it really isn't possible that you're getting the video and not the sound, Team. They're all one file!
There are only a few possibilities that I can think of:
    1) Your camcorder is recording the audio at a non-standard sample rate or audio format (something other than 12 bit 48K).
    2) Your camcorder is equipped with a dubbing feature and, for some reason, the audio is configured to record to channels 3 and 4 rather than 1 and 2.
But you're right. If if either of these were true, why would it work with version 1 and not version 2?
    So one other possibility is:
    3) The ASIO is configured wrong in version 2. Seems strange that that's the case on two computers -- but it could be.
The test is to play the video you've captured with version 2 in Windows Media Player. Is there sound?
If there is sound, you know that version 2 captured the audio okay but the program isn't playing it right.
If there is no sound, then there must be an issue with how the camcorder is configured.
As I said, audio and video streaming over FireWire from a miniDV are not two separate files! So there's no way the program could get one and not the other. The only possibility is that, for some reason, one program is seeing it and the other isn't.

  • Export  to tape Time code problem

    Premiere Elements 3.0
During "Export to Tape" operation, the "End Timecode" is stuck at 13 minutes even though the edited video is 30 minutes long. There does not seem to be an obvious way to set this parameter. I can't get the whole thing to transfer. Ideas, please!
    William

Can I have that in writing? I get so many arguments to contrary, William.
    Glad I could help though!

  • Cannot export to tape from CS4

I have PPro CS4 connected by firewire to either a Canon HV 30 MiniDV camera or a Sony GV-D1000 Mini DV deck.  (I've tried both).
I am trying to export my project to MiniDV tape.  I have succeeded in the past but for some reason now can't do it.
I select "Export to tape" in PPro and all seem to go smoothly, the device being controlled from the PPro device controller and the tape starting to roll.  It's just that no image appears in the screen on the HV30 or GV-D1000, and nothing is recorded.  I am following the instructions for each device regarding recording via this method.  It just seems no data is being sent from the PC to the device.
Options in Edit - Preferences - Device Control are set for the approrpriate PAL system and device.
I can record from the device onto my PC using the same firewire port and cable.
    I'm using Windows 7.
    12Gb RAM
    i7 chip
    ATI Radeon HD5870 graphics card
    Can anyone help, please?

Thanks again, Ann, but as mentioned in my "Dropping frames during capture" thread, this has already been tried and failed.
The following things have been tried and have all failed to prevent, roughly every minute or so during capture or export, two or three seconds of interference which results in lots of dropped frames during capture or a blank screen during export:
    Different firewire cables
Different programs:  PPro CS4; Pr Elements 9, Windows Live Movie Maker
    Capturing to different hard discs
    Capturing to external hard disc
    Closing every non-essential process
    Detaching every non-essential peripheral
Switching off all other electronic devices in that part of the house, phone included
Capturing from/exporting to different devices from different makers
    Changing the firewire driver
I think it's either the firewire driver on Windows 64 bit, (althouhg I've treid changing it) or a problem with the graphics card.
The firewire slot is not in a card by itself, but part of a panel of many slots and plugholes at the back of my PC - USBs, minijacks, firewire etc  I have no further slots available for a separate firewire card.
The only solution I can see is to save the project as a huge AVI file, transfer that to my lap top, make a movie out of it with Windows Live Movie Maker, and export from there.

  • Any 3rd Party Application(s) to export to tape?

Heya guys. Hope production has been treating you all well. I'm kind of in a jam here where for some reason both my sony dv decks have stopped working via firewire. I currently need a third party application(if one exists) that can export a ProRes file to DV Tape. I'm about to go through the pain of reinstalling FCS 7, but I've asked a friend to come by with his cam for me to export a program to tape. I reinstalled my OS as a last ditch effort to see if that was the problem, sadly, it wasn't. So I can only conclude that my decks are... swabed.

That's strange then Nick. Almost all my timelines are in a different codec setting. I just figured FCP just plays em back through DV signal which is why all these years I've been able to export my ProRes timeline to mini DV tapes. Premier Pro did it as well...H.264 is another story. Been trying to switch over to FCPX lately so I don't wanna have to reinstall FCP 7 if I don't have to... or Premier for that matter. I don't mind converting the clips to DV but the question still remains, do you guys have any apps to export to tape?

  • Can't export to tape !   Help !

    Hi,
I'm having some trouble exporting an HDV sequence back out to tape from Premiere Pro CC.
I click on "File > Export > To Tape".
Then the "render and record" window pops up.
I click ok, but instead of the render line coming up and then recording, it just jumps to the "Transcoding to HDV" box, and almost instantly just returns to the "Render and record" one without doing anything.
And when I try to export a DV sequence, the VCR starts recording but received neither picture nor sound from PC.
    Import works normally !
The problem is the same regardless of the recording device: Camcorder Canon HV20 and XHA1, or VCR Sony M25 .
Curiously, a few weeks ago, export was ok.
    I don't understand !!!
With Premiere Pro CS6, everything is ok, both import AND export.
Has anyone experienced something like this before ?
Thanks in advance for your help !

Same problem here, double checked on another system with Adobe Premiere CS6 export works fine.
The same project settings / sequence settings (HDV 1440x1080@50i in Premiere CC and unable to export to Sony HDV deck.  It starts rendering and writing but image stays black.
Using an other NLE software on the same system exports normally, so the firewirecard / deck and connections are fine.
Device control is the same as in CS6, disabled mercury engine (problem in the past)
    Any idea would be appriciated

  • Can't export to tape...HELP PLEASE

    Hi,
I can't seem to export my sequence to tape on my Sony DCR-PC8E PAL camcorder.
I select select File -> export -> export to tape
It says it is ready; starts the camera recording automatically; but the camcorder screen remains blue and no signal is recorded.
The camcorder says 'DV IN' on the screen.
Sending a sequence to tape from windows movie maker works fine.
    Capturing from tape works fine.
Anyone got any ideas on how to make this work?
    Thanks D.

    Solved
You have to change the playback settings in the sequence settings for each sequence.

  • Trouble with new Sony Z5U exporting to tape

I am using Premiere Pro CS3.  Just purchased the New Sony Camcorder Model Z5U.  Tried to export to tape and Premiere doesn't want to cooperate.  Anyone having the same problem and if so, any fixes that you might have run across???

I exported the same project to a JVC model HR-DVS2 tape deck and it recorded it.  I also have to confess that I am new to CS3.  Not to Premiere.  I have avoided using CS3 because I have not taken the time to learn it.  I work with TV production and the timing has forced me to use old reliable 6.5.  I guess I am getting too old to learn.  I am having fits with CS3 because I didn't take the time to work with any of the Pro series.  Have them all but didn't use them.  First version crashed on me in a hurryup project so I gave up on it.  I used to be able to figure these issues out on my own...now I'm lost.

  • Render and record, export to tape question?

    Hi,
I have finished a ten minute HDV project.
I now want to export to tape. (HDV Sony V1e) When I hit export - tape then hit the render and record box. This then brings up the Export to HDV (transcoding to HDV) box.
The problem I have is that 10 min project trancodes for about ten minutes then just goes back to the render and record dialogue box, without the exporting to tape.
I then tried exporting a smaller chunk (25seconds) and this renders in about three minutes and exports fine!!
So, I think my camera etc is fine.
Why won't my ten min movie render and record?
Sometimes it does give me a low memory warning too. I have set the preference from performance to memory already.
    Please help!
    thanks
    scott

    Hi Scott,
I am having this very same problem.
Did you manage to solve it? If so, how??
I've been trying to figure it out for the past 5 days and it's driving me crazy!!!
I exported a 3 minutes sequence and it exported to tape fine. But when I tried to do the entire film - 55 minutes - it began the 'transcoding' then just stopped and went back to the 'render and record' pop up without any error message or anything.
I am trying to get from CS3 to a Sony HDV deck.
    Thanks,
    Alicia

  • Premiere Pro CS5 Not exportting to tape on TWO different Computers!!! HELP

I had a prior post in january with a new desktop having problems exporting to tape. when it would export a blue screen would come up at random times breaking up the recording. almost like the camera was losing signal with the computer.
Im capturing and exporting using a Canon XHG1 HDV camera.
Both the Laptop (sony vpcf11x) and Desktop (custom with intel sandybridge motherboard) can CAPTURE tapes fine. but export causes problems on BOTH machines.
Both of my computers (a laptop and desktop use the Intel i7 chipset.
I have a Third desktop (gateway something or other) that ive been using Sony Vegas to Export to tape and it WORKS EVERYTIME! with the same Camera and Firewire Cable.
Itried installing Sony Vegas onto the new Desktop to export and I get the SAME problem that I get with Exporting with Premiere.
has anyone else heard of these problems? it is really starting to irritate me. with everything ive done, it has to be something with Adobe. how can i have the same problem on two different computers?

Here are more specific information with my system and settings for you to see. I also included a video of my workflow and showing you what exactly is happening on export.
    Project Settings:
    Capture Format DV
Video Rendering and Playback: Mercury Playback Engine Software only
    Sequence Settings:
    DV NTSC
    29.97 fps
    720x480
    Aspect Ratio 16:9
    30fps Drop-Frame Timecode
    Playback Settings:
Desktop Video Display during playback checked box
    External Device: DV_29.97 720x480i
    Aspect Ration Conversion: Hardware Only
    External Device Audio
Export: external device DV: 29.97 720x480i
Disable video output when in the background is not checked
    Export to tape settings:
    Activate recording device is checked
assemble timecode, delay movie start, and preroll _ frames (none are checked)
abort after _ dropped frames (not checked)
    report dropped frames (not checked)
render audio before video (is checked)
I render out the video to one file (on my desktop).
then import the clip into a new sequence with the above settings.
    file>export>tape>
then it begins recording and drops out like the camera loses signal.
    this is really frusterating.

  • Random freeze or stop on export to tape

I have an i7 2.93 GHz with 3GB DDR-3 RAM.  I have a Zotac TX295 video card.  The system is a dual boot with Vista Ultimate 32 bit/XP Pro 32 bit.  I am primarily using Vista.  I have 2TB between2 RAID pairs, 750GB OS drive and a separate 750GB data drive.
Windows, Adobe hardware firmware, etc. is all up to date.
4 weeks ago (6/6) I successfully exported over 8 hours of DV footage to a DVCAM and a mini-DV camera.  Now i keep having a tape export problem.  One of two things happens:
    1. The tape will not record the full length of the project, not report any dropped frames but say it was successful.  It's random.  It can be a minute into the project or 30 minutes into it when it happens.  When this happens you see the camera viewfinder flicker to a blue screen real quick before returning to the video and stop recording.
    2. The video hits a random frame and continues recording but frozen on that frame with the sound stuttering on the sound of a single frame.
As of tonight now, I have an additional issue where once you try to export Premiere slows down dramatically.  But, if I turn off or disconnect the camera from the computer everything suddenly speeds back up.
All the while Premiere still reports I have about 1.2GB of free memory.  I even set the Page File to min. of 3 GB and a max of 6 GB.
Here's what I have tried but have still had no success:
    1. I brought the project into a new one and deleted the render files and then re-rendered.
    2. I exported the project out as a new AVI, brought that into a new project.
    3. I exported the project out as a new AVI, switched to the XP OS, brought it into a new project in different scratch disk folders on a different hard drive.
    4. I held down Shift while Premiere started to clear the plug-in cache.
Now the only recent changes that I'm aware of in the last 4 weeks are as follows (I listed what I did to try to resolve the issue):
    1. I updated my RAID controller card so I moved the files to a non-RAID drive thinking the firmware update created a problem.
    2. I updated the video card drivers so I rolled them back to the version they were 4 weeks ago.
    3. I saw that there was a .Net Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 update.  According to Microsoft this only provided a security patch for Firefox.
I can't figure out what's going on.  I can't export this project yet 2 projects that are from 4 weeks ago or older seem to export to tape fine.  And the weird thing is if I take the exported clip of this project that won't export to tape and bring it to my friend's computer who has Premiere Pro 2.0 it exports to tape successfully every time.
I don't trust the stability of the software now.  I even had a few weird instances that when mono clips were imported Premiere randomly saw them as stero clips.
Any ideas?  I have another major project to start and the instability is really worrying me.  Please contact me at [email protected].  Thanks.

    One other thing...
I tried to different cameras, firewires and the firewire connection on my firewire card and coming off the motheboard.
