Exporting to word, random capital letters

Hello everyone!
Bit of background about the situation:
A company needs to edit a PDF file as it is outdated, they tried copying directly from the PDF to word but as there is a lot of layout and info dependent on pictures that failed epicly. They asked if I could look into a way to get it properly into Word so they could easily edit it there.
I used Acrobat XI to export it to Word, the layout and pictures all converted properly and the layout looked fine.
The problem I am now running into is that in about a quarter of the document lines of text have converted into a mix of capital and normal letters, seemingly V,C,H,E,D,B,K are the biggest, and possibly only, problem, which sadly are used quite a lot in those few pages. The weird thing is that for the other 3 quarters of the document the same letters do not pose a problem and did convert properly.
I could go the hard way around and change everything manually(Or use Search and Replace in Word) to get them correct but I figured I'd try here first to see if possibly there is an easy fix for this happening. I tried googling but didn't manage to find anything that fixed my situation or was similar to my situation.
Opening the PDF in PDF-Xchange Editor showed the same problems I am getting in Word, so I am now thinking the problem may be with the PDF file and not the conversion.
The font used is the same throughout the entire document, both the places with problems and no problems use "Frutiger" and get converted into "Trebuchet MS".
A quick test(Not gonna stop trying things myself) shows that changing text from "Frutiger" to "Calibri" makes the problem areas work fine after conversion. Is there possibly an easy way to change all text in the file at once as selecting every bit of text is a bit of a pain.(To google!)
The document contains info I may not share and thus I can't put it online for others to see and apply their hand at it directly.
If anyone can offer any help with this it is much appreciated!

Thanks for delivering the bad news, I found the most likely culprit while doing some last tests before manually changing everything.
I changed everything to Calibri and that fixed most of the document, a few layouts were affected and 1 page was still broken(it had a lot of empty lines to fill in names etc.) but that is not a problem.
The culprit, most likely, was the font "Frutiger" which when bolded apparently converts certain letters into capitals. Not 100% certain, but that seemed to be the case. I do not own said font myself so can't test it further, but changing the font fixed it well enough.

The dictation program is getting close. I use it all the time, but there is one continuing problem: random capitalization. If this one problem were solved, it would be a really close to excellent. And it seems like it should be a relatively easy thing to fix. C'mon Apple!

Apple doesn’t routinely monitor the discussions.
Send Apple feedback. They won't answer, but at least will know there is a problem. If enough people send feedback, it may get the problem solved sooner.

  • How to convert capital letters to non-capital letters?

Does anyone know how to do this? Currently, I have a small Widget in Dashboard that I found that does this perfectly, however, its too annoying to have to convert it and then copy & paste it into a Text application (ie. Page or Word).
I was hoping, no let me rephrase, dreaming that Pages could do so, but I don't think it does; so I was hoping someone can tell me if they know of any programs that I can use that does just that.
Some great features that I would like, but not necessary, is:
    1) that it allows you to export directly into any applicaiton (ie, Pages or Word)
    2) the ability to convert from non-capital letters (sentences, paragraphs and even pages in bulk) to capital letters.
Anyone? I would appreciate any feedback, good or bad. Thanks!

    Hi DennisG
This initially seemed odd to me too.
I think it is because Pages retains the original Unicode character and regards capitalization as a formatting change - not a change to the character code itself. To illustrate, type the sentence "Dinner is booked for Dennis and Ian on Friday afternoon at 1pm." into Pages. You will notice that as you toggle between All Caps and None for the Capitalization setting, the appropriate case is preserved for things like proper nouns and the start of the sentence. Not a big deal for one sentence but imagine you had hundreds or thousands of sentences that you wanted in the same style and wished to experiment with presenting them in capitals!
Pages isn't alone in doing this. Microsoft Word on Windows behaves the same way if you select the All caps check box in the Font dialog. Word provides a separate Change Case ... menu option that seems to permanently convert the actual characters instead of their appearance.
I think it would be useful for Pages to have a similar feature and suggest that Vito submits feedback in the normal manner.

What I have tried but does'nt seem to work: I exported those cards into word. Toggled the capital letters. exported it into a csv file and imported it back into address book. Address book recognized the duplicate files and merged them but....kept the one with capital letters....aaaaaahhhhh!

    vicentelou,
if you made a backup of your system before installing 10.9.4, you can restore from the backup. If you didn’t make such a backup, you can do it manually by booting into Recovery mode, completely erasing your internal disk, letting OS X Internet Recovery redownload and reïnstall your MacBook Pro’s original version of OS X, running Software Update to get it up to date in-version, and if necessary redownloading Mavericks from the Mac App Store and reïnstalling Mavericks — that should get you back to 10.9.3.

  • Spell Checking Text with All Capital Letters

Is it possible to change a spell check option in Adobe, like you can in MS Word, to include words in all capital letters? we have thousnads of documents that require all text to be all capitals and spend an appreciable amount of time spell checking by copying to MS Word to discover errors. No one I've talked to seems to have an answer.

As I understand it the spell check in Acrobat is for text in annotations only.
It does not check PDF page content..
Such content needs to be spell/grammer checked before converting to PDF.

  • Issue with capital letters

    Hi folks!
I usually make translations of video materials in my language (italian), so I usually open Word for Mac and Quick Time Pro together.
Since I write these translations in capital letters, to make them easier to read by voice talents, I noticed that, in last Quick Time updates, with caps Lock inserted the transport keys J, K, L don't work, and the keys I and O (to loop a sequence) either.
Have you ever heard about it?
Is anybody able to suggest a work-out?
    Thanx in advance!

Not really a workaround or a solution, but two things to consider...
    1) DOING SCRIPTS IN ALL CAPS IS AN ARCHAIC PRACTICE WHICH DATES BACK TO THE STONE AGES WHEN THE ONLY WAY TO GET LARGE TEXT WAS TO USE A PRIMARY TYPEWRITER WHICH WAS INCAPABLE OF PRODUCING LOWER CASE TEXT. I STILL DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY MIXED CASE IN A LARGE FONT SIZE, WHICH IS ACTUALLY MUCH EASIER TO READ THAN ALL-CAPS, HAS STILL NOT BECOME THE WORLDWIDE STANDARD. THIS PARAGRAPH IS IN CAPS NOT BECAUSE I AM TRYING TO SHOUT, WHICH IS THE USUAL INTERPRETATION ON THE INTERNET, BUT TO DEMONSTRATE A POINT: READING THIS PARAGRAPH IS ACTUALLY MADE MORE DIFFICULT BECAUSE OF THE CAPS AS THEY OBSCURE THE SYMBOLS, THE SENTENCE ENDINGS, AND ANY OTHER METHODS WHICH MIGHT BE USEFUL FOR EMPHASIS.
THAT SAID, IT MAY NOT REALLY BE YOUR CHOICE. OBVIOUSLY YOU HAVE TO LIVE WITH WHATEVER STANDARDS ARE ESTABLISHED BY YOUR CLIENT, EVEN IF THOSE STANDARDS DON'T REALLY MAKE SENSE.
    2) Have you considered getting yourself a Shuttle Express or Shuttle Pro controller? I'm trying to remember the manuf...I think it's Contour Design or something like that. Yeah, here it is: http://www.contourdesign.com It's a multimedia controller which plugs into the USB port and emulates a jog/shuttle control found on a professional VCR. The neat thing about it is that all of the buttons and functions are completely programmable, and you can even use it to fire off AppleScripts. I've got the Shuttle Express which has five buttons (the Shuttle Pro has "a whole bunch"), and the really cool thing about it is that because you can program it on a per-application basis or on a global basis. Even cooler is that the device focus does not necessarily follow the application focus, but it does follow the mouse pointer.
(Okay, Dave, what the heck does all that mean?)
What that means is that not only can you use it as a bi-directional jog/shuttle controller for QuickTime, not only can you program the buttons for, say, set-in, set-out, play-forward, loop, stop...but I'm pretty certain that you can set it up so that while you are TYPING MERRILY AWAY IN ALL CAPS IN MICROSOFT WEIRD, it can still control QuickTime Player *even though QuickTime Player is not the foreground application*.
It isn't really a solution or a workaround to your problem, but it's a tool that might be beneficial to your workflow.
Disclaimer: That's an unsolicited endorsement. I don't sell hardware, I have no connection whatsoever to Contour Design, and can't think of any possible way to benefit financially from giving this advice. I do own a Shuttle Express and think it's a cool little gadget.

  • Identifying capital letters in strings

I need to read a string (in this case a sentence) and identify any 'words' in the sentence (excluding the first word of the sentence) that begin with capital letters OR are entirely made up of capital letters. I guess I use string tokenizer to braek the string into individual words, but how do I then 'spot' capital letters (either beginnig words or all through the word)?

Here's the script that completes the task you describe (that is, to the best of my knowledge based upon your description). Enjoy!

  • Capital letters problem

    Hello guys,
A user yesterday reported that he couldn't get the list of his company when he tried to search with his company's first word in the search prompt(dashboard prompt)....
The issue is he tried searching with small letters whereas his company names were stored in database in capital letters.
Is there a way to fix this...or a workaround to restrict users to entering only in capital letters whether or not caps is ON on the keyboard.

Still I have not understood how (in which way, the pictures, transfered from my system or new taken by the ipad camera are uploaded directly to the FaceBook. I suppose that I will not have the same difficulties regarding the videos to both Facebook AND YoutTube. Some of the apps shown in adverts / videos have been downloaded from the App Store, they don't come pre-installed e.g. the Facebook app is a free download the app store : 'official' Facebook app.
To upload photos to Facebook you can use the above app - you can't, for example, use Safari on the iPad to upload content to sites.
Not sure whether any apps allow you to upload videos to YouTube (I don't use the site).

  • Crystal Report error exporting to Word

My company recently deployed a Microsoft Security Patch to our workstations that's causing a problem with Crystal Reports. When exporting a Crystal report to a Word file (from a VB 6 application) the following error is generated when opening the file: "You are attempting to open a file that was created in an earlier version of Microsoft Office. This file type is blocked from opening in this version by your registry policy setting."
My company uses Crystal Reports v 8.0.1.0. Is there a more recent release that provides a fix for this error?
    Thanks.

I know 100mb works because I have created word document reports with that size before using the crystal export.  Just really big reports.  I'm not sure on the exact size because it doesnu2019t work but I know there is more data in the report than the 100MB report which works so it doesnu2019t work on some reports larger than that (don't know the specific size because it doesnu2019t work) sorry for being redundant.
Not sure about a size limitation on an RTF formatted document that is saved as a *.doc (word document).
It's my understanding that exporting to a .doc is the same as exporting to .rtf because the .doc is in .rtf format.  I may be wrong but if you change a .rtf extension to a .doc extension, you get the same thing when opening the file in word.
When exporting to RTF format I get the same error, so I believe they are using the same or similar process.
Yes I tried on other machines and different servers and the error only occurs when exporting large documents to word.  Small documents work fine.
If there are file constraints in exporting to word, I believe a more distinct error message could be displayed related to the specific error.
No I did not upgrade my pc or software, I developed the report and am running specificly for 11.5 release 2 with service pace 3 installed.
    Thanks,
    K

  • Export to Word from SAP B1 2007A

    Hi all.
When trying to export marketing document (sales order) to word from SAP B1 2007 A - I get error message. The error message appears in the word document and it states "unacceptable field". The template document also fails to return values in some of the data fields. We are using Office 2007.
I have tried solution from notes (868723), saying to check "typing replaces selection". I've also set macro settings to low and given acces to VBA Projects.
    Has anyone some suggestions?

  • Export to Word RTF - Page Server error when over 160 pages exported

    We have XIR2 SP2
We have a Crystal report published into this Enterprise which, when all parameters are widened, runs to 190 pages.
    The resultant report includes tables
We can export to PDF but the client requires it in Word RTF
We can export to Word RTF Editable - and all 190 pages are produced in the resulting file, but of course the tables are omitted and the result is messy.
So, we need to export to Word RTF where the format is neat and includes the tables.
However, when we try and export more than 160 pages to Word RTF, we receive the following error.
    CrystalReportViewer
    handleCrystalEvent failed
    Unable to retrieve Object.
The Page Server you are trying to connect to is not accessible. Please contact your system administrator.
We have a duplicate environment with an identical configuration, standing by as a failover environment and which points to the same data. This produces the same error, so we don't think it's an installation corruption or failure.
The page server is set to a maximum of 2,000,000 rows, the cache server at 256000 maximum.

    Hi Tony F,
Many thanks for coming back on this one. Both Enterprise servers are identical in BO config, Windows 2003 server, but different in hardware.
One has 4 proc and one has 2, one has twice the memory of the other, yet both fail at over 161 pages. Both have their boCMS db's on different servers, both derive the data from different servers.
IIS is the web server. The only common denominator is the actual installation software itself and the person who installed it (me).
On Friday, instead of running the reports in Enterprise/Preview or Infoview (both exhibit the problem) I switched from our default activeX to DHTML, and advanced DHTML. No improvement (Our report wouldn't work with Java, which we never use)
On the suggestion of the SAP/BO support girl, I then SCHEDULED the report for immediate running and chose WordRTF as the format. This works fine.
So on that evidence I suspect a software glitch that is specific to using Infoview to open the report rather than schedule it - the two processes must access the WordRTF translator in different ways.
I'm hoping there is a patch or hotfix that can solve it. Sadly, our users don't have the appetite for the few extra clicks to use the workaround so we're going to have to pursue it with BO unless the forum comes up with an answer - perhaps its something I didn't do properly on installation, or a CMC/CMS setting. We've got 2m row limit on the page server but the report's row count is nothing like that and, anyway, it works if scheduled.
I'm really grateful to you for taking the time to reply, I hope the above answers your question - if I had hair to pull out, I'd be doing just that!
    Kind regards
    Tony W

  • Export to WORD - what's with these boxes around the text?

    Post Author: Emily
    CA Forum: Exporting
I am new to CR.  I am using version 10.0.0.533  We use CR with ClearQuest for problem reporting and other data collection.
Rational (ClearQuest Vendor) tells me it's a CR X problem.
I use a CR report exported to MS WORD as a template for taking meeting minutes.  With our old CR version, the ClearQuest export was great and I was able to add text into the report.  With CR X, the report in MS WORD comes out in text boxes and editting this output is not pretty.   I do not want the boxes, I just want free flowing text as if I had written a WORD doc so I can edit it easily during the meetings.  I have tried export to text, copy, paste but I loose all of the formatting.  I have tried HTML and then copy, paste, but this is even worse than the text output.  RTF also has the text in boxes.
Someone out there MUST have run into this problem also.  Help me...
