Exporting to XDCam

Hey guys,
I'm working in CS5 v5.0.3 (on my Windows 7 Dell Vostro 1520) to edit a project that must be put on a new Omneon server. It must come out in a specific format with a specific codec which I'm having trouble finding.
My requirements are as follows:
-Frame Size: HD 1440x1080 (16:9)
-Pixel Aspect Ratio: HD 1440x1080
-Compressor: XDCAM HD 1080i60 (35Mbps)
The file (as far as I have been told) has to be an MOV file. I am going to go try an MXF file when I get to the studio at 1pm today and will update if that works.
My friend lent me her iMac for a few hours yesterday and I managed to export an AE Comp that I had with those settings, however I don't seem to understand why I cannot get these output settings. I got a trial version of MainConcept Codec Suite 5 Pro to see if that would solve anything (Adobe says it can handle XDCam exports here: http://www.adobe.com/products/plugins/premiere/), but I still couldn't get the option that I need. I tried checking out my own copy of AE, but I didn't have the export options there either. I thought I could export my project in Premiere, drag it into AE, and export it with the codec in AE...
I confirmed on Wikipedia that v5.0.3 should have "Support for XD-CAM HD export" as of v5.0.2, but I can't seem to find any option for XDCam anywhere.
Is anyone familiar with this format? Is there a converter out there that can convert to these settings and make it an MOV?
UPDATE: I just found this preset: http://i.imgur.com/p9Ijg.jpg     but the problem is that it is still an MXF file... Is there any way to make it MOV?

^^ According to the Omneon website, they can also ingest MXF files natively. The MOV conversion I was looking for was a rewrapping that FCP does on its own. I'm all set. Looks like i got one-up on my teacher now haha.

  • FCP export to XDCAM HD (PDW-F70)

I am having an issue exporting my FCP sequence to my PDW-F70 xdcam hd deck. I am getting a failed export alarm , "record inhibit on", but record inhibit is OFF on both the disk and the deck.
I can see the disk in the finder but it comes up as read onlyy.
How do i make the disk writeable?

you might be misreading this. the top level of the discs directory is always read only as it should be, but you should check other directories, such as CLIP and GENERAL are are not
if you export your edit to the desktop as an MXF file (using the XDT software) you should then be able to drag and drop it directly to the CLIP folder

  • Export of XDCAM broken or weird

I'm editing XDCAM 1920 x 1080 from XDCAM EX.  If I use "export same as sequence" Premiere writes a .MPEG file that Quicktime player cannot open.  If I specify XDCAM EX codec at 1920 x 1080 MOV file, the export is 1440x1080.
    1) Mac Pro /  OS 6.8 / Premiere 5.5 / been shooting & editing HD footage for 5 years but new to Premiere.
    2) Premiere just doesn't want to believe that I want XDCAM EX quality OUT of my edit.  I do.  (Let's not debate whether I need this, let's focus on whether it is impossible or possible)
I'd love to figure out how to have the export quality = the original quality but I can't.  Either it isn't possible with XDCAM EX footage or the controls are somewhere I haven't found.  Love to hear from folks who know how to do this.

I'd love to figure out how to have the export quality = the original quality but I can't.
The only way to do that is with a lossless export.  Any other option will introduce some level of degradation.
The UT codec is a good choice for this.  It's free, lossless, cross-platform, offers both RGB and YUV modes, as well as alpha transparency, and both 709 and 601 color space for HD and SD use.  It also plays nice with Adobe software.
    http://www.videohelp.com/tools/Ut-Video-Codec-Suite
However, it doesn't always play in media players, so if that's the goal rather than continued editing, you may need to choose another option.  H.264 (which creates MP4 files) is probably the best choice for computer playback.  The files are small and can still be excellent quality.

  • Unable to export to xdcam disc - pdw-f75

    Hi All,
I have a difficulty to export directly to xdcam disc (using PDW-F75 deck) in Adobe Premiere CS6.
The message showed "G:\Clip\C0001.mxf You don't have permission to modify
files in this network Location. Contact the administrator per permission to
make these changes.". However, if I export the file to the desktop locally
and then manually copy/drag to the clip directory in the xdcam disc via
windows explorer, it works. I don't want to waste time by having two steps
to achieve that. The FAM driver that I have is ver 2.3 for Windows 7 Pro 64
bit, which I believe is the latest for PDW-F75.
For your information, I also have Mainconcept plugin installed and tried
using the Totalcode sequence/export setting and etc but still failed.
I noticed the permission in the windows explorer is read-only for all the drive,
clip folder and the rest of the folders. Is it normal?

    Hi All,
Anyone can help me out on this?
    Regards.

  • Exporting 1080 xdcam ex

    Hi
I set my sequence settings to 1080 xdcam ex and now when i go to export from FCP they do not have the option of xdcam ex to export from. Only 1080 HD xdcam
I create a custom setting for compressor of 1080 xd cam ex , square, full hd, and the exporting process says it is going to take 3 hours? My clip is only 4 minutes.. ??
I used this setting for the whole wedding and this is just the trailer what the heck how long will it take to export 2.5 hours?
So if you would please provide any possible solutions for the problem?

    Alright Sequence Settins are: 1920 x 1080 HDTV 1080i (16:9)
    Pixel Aspect Ratio: Square
    Field Dominance: None
    29.97
Quicktime video settings XDCAM EX 1080p30
    Rate 48 KHZ
    16-BIT
THIS IS WHAT MY sequence is and rendered at. I am trying to EXPORT this using the current settings BUT what happens is:
When I go to export using quicktime movie it shows it needs 3 hours to export.. because it is re-rendering everyhting??
If i got to FINAL CUT PRO and go to Audio/Video settings my sequence Preset is: XDCAM HD 1080p30 VBR
WHich is differerent then that of the format I had used. Remember i used XDCAM EX
There is no option to change that setting in AUDIO VIDEO SETTINGS to XDCAM EX 1080 30
    ANY SUGGESTIONS!!????

  • Export to xdcam disc

is there a way to export the movie back to the xdcam disc?

I just talked to our rep at Sony who had one of their software develpers on the line and they said as of now there isn't any way to get MXF files out of FCPX.  It is on their list of things to get done. So you will need  to use a third party software or bring the MOV back into FCP7 to export.

  • Export to XDCAM EX3 MP4 Raw container?

I need to playback files on a Sony PMW-EX30 deck and the only file I can find that will play back on it is the raw MP4 container file. As of now I am having to export my project I have edited in Premiere CS5 to an .mov file then import into FCP to export as the MP4 EX3 container file. I would like to avoid this step but cant find a plug in or any other answers anywhere after serveral days of research. Does any one know how I can accomplish this? Thanks

    Hey Dennis,
Thank you for your response. I tried your suggestions and the files are still not being recognized in the deck or camera. I even tried to change the file extension to .MP4 and still no luck. In order to acheive exporting in the proper format through FCP I found a plug in on the Sony Support site but I dont see anything for any Adobe products on there. Do you have any other suggestions or ideas to make this work? Thank you again for your help.

  • Exporting raw XDcam clips for non-user

I need to export some raw EX-1 footage for a user that doesn't have FCP and works on Windows XP. I found a similar question and a possible answer: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=10741386&#10741386
Is there another way via FCP that I could do this?
What if I put each clip into a sequence, about 20 clips, with 2-3 seconds of black between the clips, then outputted the whole sequence using H.264 compression.
Is H.264 my best compression for Windows users?
About delivery. Is it best to put this on a DVD or on a little ole flash drive?
    Cheers,
    David

I'm waiting for him to reply to my email, but the way it stands now is; he's asked for raw clips of some motorcycle roadracing that we've shot. He wants to put together a basic demo reel of his talents on the track. Don't know what he's going to edit this on, only that he'll be working in Windows.
The reason I'm asking now is that we've sent raw clips to clients before and they had difficulty working/viewing the clips until they upgraded FCP, even if they're on a Mac. I'm just wondering what to convert these raw clips into for universal workability.
    Cheers,

  • Export same XDcam format and media menagment

I finished the project and I want to make a master file of the same format that was recorded.
In fcp7 I had the option  Export ... Same format.    How to do Export same format in FCP X?
How to make arhive project only. As media menagment in FCP7.   So I have 100 GB of videos in the Library, I used about 20 GB in the Project, and want to save the project only with those shots + / - 1sec of each clip.

Okay, this was bugging me a bit so I went back to project from yesterday and did the following:
    1) exported the last version of the project (with filter applied)
    2) duplicated the sequence, opened each clip (5) and turned off the filter, re-rendered and exported.
    #1 with filters = 452MB, #2 without filters = 535MB.
Most interesting difference: QT reports #1 has a bit rate of 30.5 Mbps, while #2 has a bit rate of 36.1Mbps. Why the codec "chooses" a different bit rate is odd, but clearly very sensitive to picture content!

  • PDW-HD1500 - Final Cut Pro export to Sony XDCAM error

I have a sequence in Final Cut Pro with XDCAM HD422 1080i50. When I try to export going via the "File > Export > Sony XDCAM" menu, choose "XDCAM HD422 1080i50 CBR" and hit the "Export" button.
On a 5 minute clip, I get this error message after 8% of exporting. In the system.log in Mac OS X there is a "write error 138" reported by the XDCAM exporter.
If I set an out point to reduce the in-point to just 5 secons, the export is successful. If I try 1 minute, the export fails. If I check "recompress all frames" and export the 1 minute clip, the export is successful.
Waiting for Final Cut Pro to recompress all frames takes too long on a new MacBook Pro 17-inch. 1 minute takes about 4 minutes to recompress.
I am running Mac OS X 10.5.8, Final Cut Pro 6.0.4, QuickTime 7.6.4, XDCAM Transfer 2.11, and firmware version 1.51 on the PDW-HD1500.
I have set the audio outputs of my sequence to 8 tracks dual mono discrete, and set each audio track to go 1-1, 2-2, 3-3, 4-4 and so on. The video settings are XDCAM HD422 1080i50 50Mb.
I have checked that the settings on the PDW-HD1500 is set to HD422, 50i, 8ch 24-bit. Are there any other settings I might have overlooked?
Any suggestions? I would really appreciate some help.

I've had experience wiith using 7toX and never had that message. Have you tried contacting the developer? My guess is they would be responsive.

  • XDCAM export to disk

    Hello,
I'm having a problem writing XDCAM clips back to a disk. We shot some car mount footage on another camera (GoPro)
    • I compressed that footage to XDCAM 1080i60 35Mb/s
    • Placed the compressed footage into a Final Cut timeline (XDCAM HD 1080i60 35Mb/s VBR).
    • Set Audio output to four channels, 1 and 2 dual mono and 3 and 4 dual mono.
    • Set our deck (Sony PDW-HD1500) to 59.94i/HD420-1080/HQ/4CH-16Bit
    • File > Export > Sony XDCAM...
    • Export to "Untitled" (the XDCAM disk that's in the deck.
    • As format MXF (HDCAM, HD, HD422)
    • Using settings XDCAM HD 1080i60 VBR
    • REC INHIBIT off on the deck
It won't write that to the disk. I continue to get "Export Failed" windows telling me to check settings and make sure record inhibit is off.
Here's the problem: when I set the settings to XDCAM HD 1080i60 CBR (which is 25Mb/s) or XDCAM HD422 1080i60 CBR (which is 50Mb/s) the file writes properly EVEN THE DECK IS SET TO 420HQ.
Our show is shot at the 420HQ (35Mb/s) format and that is what we have to deliver to post.
The problem seems that CBR works just fine and VBR does not. Does the computer have a problem with a variable bitrate that it doesn't have with a constant bit rate?
The footage is not going to suffer at 25Mb/s, since it was shot on the little GoPro camera (it records to an mp4 file at a much lower compression). But we want to get the footage to post in the same format that they're getting everything else.
What can I do to fix this situation?
    Thanks,
    Stef

    Hello Marcus,
You need to install the latest Sony FAM-driver on your Mac for writing your edit back to the disc. I guess that's all.
Importing goes now via the "Media Browser" as I understand it correct. I believe therefore XDCAM Transfer software isn't needed anymore, but I think it wouldn't hurt to have it installed too.
When your edited sequence is written back to the disc, you’re able to play it out on your PDW-700 via the SDI or HDSDI connection.
I still use FCP7 so how it all precisely goes in Premiere, I do not know for sure. I'm sorry for that! Production Premium CS5.5 is installed on my Mac, but haven't used Premiere Pro. Shortly I will be switching to CS6.
Here are some other movies for the PDW-700. In part 4 Andy explains how to write back to the 700 with FCP. I assume it's almost the same with Premiere.

  • Gypsy-rigging a fast, "fake" XDCAM timeline export

I work in a training environment of a production facility where we currently shoot and edit XDCAM 1080/60i 35VBR footage. We started out shooting on DV and editing on Final Cut Pro G4 laptops, and gradually upgraded to XDCAM footage over a few years, and are now editing on macbook pro's, which are designed to handle XDCAM.
As a training department, I don't always have access to the newest equipment and have inherited alot of the older, retired, G4 powerbooks to use as training vehicles to bring staff up to speed on Final Cut Pro editing. While I start staff on standard definition DV material, we gradually work our way up to XDCAM, as that's the format they'll encounter when shooting real material.
Although it's a given that the G4's were never meant to edit HD XDCAM footage, when installed with FCP6, the G4's can handle the editing of XDCAM timelines fine, as long as you're doing mostly cuts. Any rendering is obviously extremely slow.
The big problem is exporting the timeline out as a quicktime file. That takes FOREVER on a G4. However, I suspect that if I change the paramaters of the export so that I'm not trying to export a 1440 x 1080 XDCAM file, I hope I can speed up the time it takes for the G4's to export that timeline. The end product they're exporting will never be used...it's just a practice package timeline, therefore, it doesn't really matter what the end format and size dimensions of that exported timeline are. I'm just trying to get them familiar with the export workflow.
So here is my question...can anyone recommend a particular spec I can use for exporting that XDCAM timeline that will speed up the export? I need to try to do the same thing for exporting XDCAM via COMPRESSOR...finding a droplet / codec or creating one, that will export a 2 minute XDCAM timeline in around 5-10 minutes, instead of the 30-45 minutes it would take to actually export it full size. Again, I'm not trying to make it end up as an XDCAM exported file. Any format and size will do...I just want the export to go faster on these older machines.
Any input or thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks.

If you haven't already, you might want to post this question in the FCP discussion at http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=939

  • Export XDCAM clips into Final Cut

I'm working on a project where all clips were supplied in XDCAM format. I exported using XDCAM EX clip browser so that now they are in a program called XDCAM transfer with an mxf extension. Now I need to get them into Final Cut(7) but can't figure out how. Can anyone help .
    Jeff

In Final Cut Pro, choose File > Import > Sony XDCAM...
That will cause the XDCAM Transfer app to open with hooks into your FCP project. Use XDCAM Transfer to log your selects and press the Import button at lower right. The clips will be imported to the Import Location and appear in your project's Browser window in FCP.
Note that the Import Location for clips ingested through XDCAM Transfer is not linked to the Capture Scratch location you choose in FCP's System Settings. XDCAM Transfer has its own set of application preferences, so you'll want to select an appropriate import location by switching to tehe XDCAM Transfer application and choosing Preferences from the application menu ... the location is set under the Import tab of that Preferences window.
In future, if you prefer, you can bring the XDCAM EX footage in directly from the original media / folder structure using FCP's own Log and Transfer interface, you just need to install the free Log and Transfer plugin available from Sony's website. Note that this does not work with XDCAM HD / MXF wrapped media, only XDCAM EX / MP4 media.
    Cheers

  • Can FCPX export XDCAM files?

Basically I want to bring in files that are XDCAM, and I want to spit out XDCAM files as a finished product.  I don't need to export to XDCAM discs, but I need XDCAM QT files.  So far I just get ProRes, which is a lovely codec, but won't work in the world I live in.

Wait a seond, you have XDCAM export otpions in FCP.
