Exporting using Quicktime - but file never appears??

Ever since I downloaded the latest iMovie '11 software update (9.0.7), every time I try to export using Quicktime, it takes two hours to export, shows no error messages of any kind, but the exported film NEVER shows up where I saved it to (or anywhere else on my computer). Has anyone else had this problem?
I can't export using any of the other options because the film is so large (the Quicktime export compresses it enough to upload to Vimeo, while exporting it straight to Vimeo does not). The Quicktime export (and all the settings still in place) worked perfectly before I installed the 9.0.7 update.
I need to get this film off my computer pronto. Please help???

Apologies for the long delay in response; have been working on other things of course.
I don't know how to use OS X's postscripting feature, but I did try and succeeded in creating a .ps file. When I try to open the file, however, it tells me there is a postscript conversion error and the file cannot be converted to pdf.
Manually distilling the file is exactly where the problem arises.
For giggles, I tried to select the OS X's pdf'ing feature instead of postscript or distilling, and it worked instantly! The dimensions are correct when I open it up, and the file size is large enough to indicate to me that the resolution is likely sufficiently high. I would not know for sure of course until finding out the hard way after sending it to the printers, but it seems to be a use-able file.
So, it seems that this is a pseudo-solution, at least so that I have a tool to bypass the problem when I next encounter it; however, I wonder if you have any ideas about how to actually fix the glitch? Does it have to do with the sorts of images that reside in the KeyNote file; if so, which file types does pdf not like and should be avoided?

File export using quicktime conversion quit!!!

I am trying to export a 3 minute film and I have just downloaded flip4mac studio as my client needs it in wmv format. I exported the film yesterday to a quicktime format, so they could watch it online. But today, after i downloaded flip4mac studio when I click on file > export > using quicktime conversion the whole of fcp just quits! when i click on file > export > quicktime movie it is fine, it just seems to be when i click on quicktime conversion. What is going on, it was fine yesterday!!!
I am using final cut pro version 5.1.4. Please help me because I don't know what the **** is going on!?!

I have a mac pro, 2x 2.66 GHZ Dual core Intel Xeon, 2 GB RAM, 1ST hard drive, free space 136GB - second hard drive 204GB. Operating system: Mac OS X 10.4.10 - Quicktime version 7.2.0 - player version 7.2. - Flip4Mac version 2.1.2.72, flip4mac wmv studio, downloaded and purchased from their site.
My project details - filmed on Sony Z1 in HDV, captured via firewire (preset HDV), device preset Sony HDV 1080i 50, sequence preset, HDV - 1080i 50.
These the normal settings i usually use for all the projects that I have ever done. Have I always set it up wrong or am I just going crazy? Also do I need a separate plugin to connect flip4mac and final cut? I have never used flip4mac before, so I don't really know how it works!

IMovies - Export Using Quicktime - can't find the finished file - help please!

Please help. I exported several imovies projects to a designated file on my mac, using Share - Export using Quicktime and then I uploaded them to Youtube.
I did this successfully several times, now when I export a project, it takes about 45 minutes to export it, then I can't find them anymore.
I have read several threads, which suggest looking in the iMovie projects folder and locate your project Right-click to get to "show package contents" and they are not there.
It looks as if it goes through successfully, no errors but this is so annoying as I am wasting hours sharing and then can't find it. Please help anyone.

I originally spent about 10 hours uploading 3 clips directly from imovies to Youtube to a private channel and they couldn't find any signs of my 3 uploads. So I read threads that said export to Quicktime from imovies and then load them to Youtube that way. I did that for 3 short, 10 minute videos and it worked fine. It changed the thread to .mov and it worked.
Then perhaps I changed something (not sure what) but now when I use Export to Quicktime, it spends 1 hour or so doing the motions and completes but when I go to the allocated folder to retrieve it. It can't be found. I read threads and this seems to be a regular occurrence but I haven't read any replies that has solved this issue.

I installed MGEG Streamclip 193b8 and used their utility to install quicktimempeg2 and got a message stating it was successfully installed. (I'm on latest Maverick 10.9.2 on iMac) Then I dragged the VIDEO_TS file from my home DVD into the streamclip app. It asked which of 4 files to use, and I selected the first one. Streamclip played the video with the sound. so far so good. but now I cannot figure how to use quicktime player 10.3 to export this vob file out of streamclip.

I choose the smallest size, 3x4 but I'd prefer to go higher as this DVD was originally a VHS home movie. I'm wondering if after three conversions (VHS,->DVD->MPEG) the resolution will be so poor as to not support a larger size frame? If it can, what size should I select when I export?

I export using quicktime and it loads and acts like its working then when it is finished there is no exported file. It's as if nothing happened!

IMovie Export using Quicktime in 1080p gives error OSStatus error -2125

Hi, I am new to using iMovie, started using it few days back. So far i have been unable to "Export using Quicktime" in 1920*1080p option.
I was able to export using "Export to Quicktime" in 640*480p (.mp4 format) option and was able to use "Export Movie" with 1920*1080p (.mov format) option.
Trying to export using "Export using Quicktime" in 1080p always failed so far. I tried at least a dozen times with different settings. Initially i was getting the following two errors randomly, but later, the last 4-5 trials i keep getting only the first error.
1. OSStatus error - 2125
2. Not enough room in the heap zone.
Project details are - it is a 34 min. video and size came to 5.3GB when exported using "Export Movie" (.mov format) using 1080p option.
It indicates 2 hours to export it, takes 2 hours and interestingly, the OSStats error - 2125 error happens at the end of the export. I can see in the finder the increasing size of the file the process is creating. It has been a really frustrating experience with iMovie so far. I even tried duplicating the project with a different name and tried export, did not help.
I have >300GB of free space on my hard drive and 8 GB of RAM. I don't have any heavy applications running on the system.
I read forums about this error and tried the following so far with no help.
1. Tried changing names of the iMovie project few times to see if that helps.
2. Set the sleep settings of the computer as well as monitor to Never.
3. Reached out to apple support about it and they suggested me to setthe sleep settings to never and then try. But that did not help.
I am stuck with this error OSStatus error - 2125.
The settings I am trying with are:
Export to MPEG-4
H.264 video format
20Mbps bit rate
30 fps
One question is, once I exported a project in one format or setting, do I have to create a new project to export it in different settings or I can just use the same project?
Can someone please help? Any help about this is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I am having the same issue. Have been searchin gfor 3 days for an answer. I am able to export as MOV file, but not MP4. I bought QT Pro 7 to convert THE MOV to MP4 and it doesnt work either. I then bought iskysoft Video Converter and it wont convert the MOV to MP4 either. (will convert smaller files)
I have 700 GB of free space on drive. I have tried a movie that is 3 hours, one that is one hour, and one that is 54 minutes..All same thing.. Error -2125. Although it will work with smaller movies under 30 mins.
Surely there has to be an answer to this? It seems it has been an ongoing issue for quite some time, yet there is no solution.

Exporting using QuickTime informations

I've a camcorder by Sony, HDR-CX305. It makes AVCHD files at 24Mbps data-rate.
I have not problem to import and work with them but, for watching my movies on PS3, I use to export in MP4 with codec H.264.
I don't know what number I have to use for best result. I've tried with 24000 kbps data-rate and it seems be good but I like to know from who has more experience with H.264 codec.
If any person has best method to export on PS3 please, let me know it.

Export using QuickTime.
Compression type mpeg4.
Video options h.264, 1920x1080, data rate 16000 Kbps.
For keyframes choose automatic or 24.
You can adjust data rate up or down if you like.

Exporting using Quicktime - PC Users can't see

I have created several movies that I am exporting using Quicktime. They are generally large files - 300MB or so. Mac users can see them fine - only some PC users can see them and generally that is using Firefox. Any suggestions on how/what to do? These movies are located on a school server (old) but I do not believe that is the issue..

I am making a "yearly video" of our family video clips. The movie is 45 minutes long. I have an HD camcorder though I have uploaded all the video as "large" as suggested since I dont have a Bluray burner anyway. I know how to export as a DVD file, but if I just want to create my movie to play on my computer, what is the optimal way to do it where I loose the least quality? This way I can save the file for later, should a better "burning" situation come about in a year or two. Should I export movie as "HD" or use "Export using quicktime" or some other option?

By all DVDs until the master, I mean any preview copies that are used to preview content only, not video quality.
I export a reference movie, which means a movie file that refers to all render and media files on my drives, instead of creating a new self-contained quicktime movie. By using a reference movie, I save drive space (they're much smaller). But reference movies will only work on a machine that contains all the media and render files.
I've used reference movies in Sorenson Squeeze before, so they may work in BitVice as well. But I much prefer Compressor to any other option.

I recently started my second video project for my family which is converting Video8 and Hi8 tapes to digital video and had a few questions regarding "Export using QuickTime".
I utilize a Digital8 camcorder to play my analog Video8 and Hi8 tapes with a DV FireWire cable so the camera does the analog to DV conversion when importing into iMovie 09. Next, I utilize the MPEG Streamclip to do the DV clip conversion using 720 x 480 (DV-NTSC) frame size settings and apply contrast & color alternations. Lastly, I import the new .mov clips into iMovie, create a new project, do some trimming and now ready to export.
Question: I don't plan to share to iTunes, iDVD, Media Browser, YouTube or MobileMe Gallery however I would like to export and put the video on a media center device. That leaves me with "Export with Quicktime" however there are quite a few export options, for example:
Movie to AVI
Movie to DV Stream
Movie to QuickTime Movie
Which export option is best to use in terms of no loss of video and audio?
Also, there is additional settings, Options button, to configure video settings (compression, frame rate, data rate, quality, dimensions) and sound settings (format, channels and sample rate & size). Are these settings or defaults good to go out-of-the-box or do I need to tweak?
Any experiences or recommendations on export options and video and sound settings would be appreciated.

I'm aware of the problem and I'm very curious about your solution. How exactly do you avoid the field drop issue? I thought you said you went from DV back to DV, which I thought would not have any effect on the field issue. Most other reports of working around the issue involve de-interlacing with, eg. JES Deinterlacer.

These are the AppleTV export defaults I guess? You could accomplish the same thing by an export via Quicktime, and then you'll get more control. IMHO, Apple's presets were chosen to produce "pretty good" quality at small file sizes. That's certainly a reasonable approach and they probably made a very well calculated compromise. But my preference is to sacrifice time and disk space to eke out a bit more image quality if I can.
Either way, these settings are very close to what I would use anyway, if your original video is 640 x 480. I thought my SD camcorder gave a bit more resolution before it croaked. Sorry I can't check it right now. Just be sure you're not losing resolution in the process. You could also bump the audio to 48 kHz if the input audio is at that sample rate. In the QT export, the other thing you can adjust is quality level; the default for AppleTV is probably "Good" or "Better" and single pass compression. Choosing "Best" multi-pass compression will take longer and give you a bigger file. You'll have to judge whether it's worth it. And just because you can see things on your monitor doesn't mean you'll see it on your TV - you have to test.
It's frustrating, but there really is no right answer to all this stuff, because the choices you make depend on your source and your display, and everything in between.

Export using Quicktime Conversion Save Prompt Freeze

I'm seeing a bug when I export using Quicktime Conversion using Final Cut Pro 7. From the main save prompt window, if I open "options..." and make my export adjustments and return back to the main save window again, it does not initiate a save when I click the save button. Further, it will not let me cancel out either. The save/cancel buttons will click blue for a moment as if they were pushed, but nothing happens - the save prompt window is totally unresponsive. My only course of action is to force quit. (note: the force quit window does NOT report FCP as unresponsive.) This problem does not happen every time, but enough to be a major annoyance. Has anyone had this issue? Thank you.

Your lunch break long wait rules out any "frustrated after a few seconds" reaction and would certainly be long enough for a drive that has dozed off to react.
Some particularly processor intensive formats could conceivably have a short delay before something starts to happen.
Writing to the system drive is not something I would personally do -I have dedicated storage for my entire video workflow. But this would also rule out a sleeping drive. The system is constantly being written and read.
If you are writing particularly large files to the system drive, bear in mind that a good chunk of the "tons" of free space is allocated to "swap" files -data that can't be written into RAM is off loaded to the hard drive. Depending just how large the swap files are and how large your video files are, there could be a delay in reallocation of swap file space to allow the video files to be written. Having less space for swap files can cause the OS to slowdown. Drives will generally become less responsive, the fuller they are.
Note that I am by no means an expert on this, so the percieved slowdown may be less significant than what the paragraph above implies.
Run Disk Utility and make it a regular part of your maintenance routine. Writing and reading the huge amounts of data that are used in video production can cause problems with the directory structure. Better to catch it early and fix it, directory damage is culmulative. You might not notice it until your files are no longer accessible.
How is the system response when you export a project as a self contained movie using current settings (same as your Timeline)? Exporting with QuickTime Compression always recompresses your video -even when writing using the same codec as the Timeline already uses, so it will take longer to process.
Self contained with current settings is the workflow that I always use. The resulting "master" file is brought into Compressor to make the deliverables. This also frees up FCP and lets me continue editing while compression runs in the background.

Missing with chapter markers after Export Using QuickTime Conversion

I have my FCE workflow setup as follows:
I create the sequences using relatively large video source files, in Apple Intermediate Codec (AIC).
Then, I use Export -> Using QuickTime Conversion to H.264 Codec, but my chapter markers are lost.
If I use Export -> QuickTime Movie, the chapter markers are preserved, but the codec is still AIC.
I need a compressed file with chapter markers. What am I missing?

Can you answer this for me? How are you looking at this material? Off the DVD you've burned? Is that what you're saying? Comparing the QuickTime Movie export to a DVD burned from a PhotoJPEG export? Or are you playing it from the computer to HDMI? If so are you using the QuickTime player? Is the QT player set to high quality playback? Yes, PhotoJPEG (not JPEG Photo) is a very large file especially at full quality. You probably don't need any more than 75% quality. I'd be very surprised if you say you can see the difference between 75% and 100%.
The length of the video is important not the size of the disc. iDVD's compression is fixed by the length of movie and the amount of content that has to be encoded.

Export Using QuickTime Conversion To Windows Media (.wmv)

I have Final Cut Pro HD version 4.5 that runs on my G5. I have a problem when I try to export video to Windows Media file (.wmv). After I select Export / Using QuickTime Conversion and than choose Windows Media in Format box, Final Cut does compile a .wmv file. The only problem is that it's only 30 sec. long when the original video that sits on Timeline is 2 mintues long. When I export the same video to Quick Time file, everything works perfectly and the duration of .mov file is the same.
I tried to set in and out points, but it made no difference.
So now I can't make a file that can get played on Windows computer that has only Windows Media player. And .avi file is not an option since I can't get one compressed enought, so it turns out too big. I understand that I can buy some third party software to make .wmv file, but I want to make sure that out of box Final Cut Pro HD 4.5 can't make Windows Media files before spending extra money.

You need to buy the full version of flip-4-mac to encode/save to a wmv. Sounds like you only have the trail/free playback version...

Export using QuickTime Conversion + SMB automount problems

I have noticed an interesting (read bad) behavior in FCP (5.0.4) - If I try to do an export using quicktime conversion with the destination being an automounted (via netinfo) smb share as opposed to a apple-k mounted share in m4v, 3g, mp4, image sequence, still image or quicktime movie - I get a File Error: Unknown Folder. However if I do the same export but in avi, wmv, dv stream, or flc formats, it works fine.
Trying to do the same export operation in quicktime pro produces an error -120, which is equivalent to directory not found.
Seems like a quicktime problem dealing with the automounted shares, anyone else run into this issue? Have a fix?

I know I can save locally + that it is tied to the quicktime components - I'm looking for fix/workaround that addresses the issue and streamlines my workflow, thats the reason I set up the automounter in the first place.
So it's clear though, quicktime has no problem with smb in a general sense, it only has problems w/ the automounted smb shares - manual or command+k mounting of smb shares offer no problems.
I use the automounting for two reasons: first is to emulate unc paths for rush render queue and second is to have consistent working paths to static content on a file server so final cut docs can be passed from editor to editor and link consistently.
