iDVD is not avail via the MAS.
only in the boxed version of iLIfe (any version).
consider other tools, as Roxios Toast or the free Burn .
those are less integrated into iLife, less easy modifyable and for sure not as 'good looking' as iDVD.
in case you still own old installer-disks of any old Mac, consider a 'custom install' of iDVD/iLife from those (mostly on Disk #2).

Can there be any external hard disks - if so How is/are it/they formatted ? Must be Mac OS Extended (hfs) if used for Video.
UNIX/DOS/FAT32/Mac OS Exchange - works for most but not for VIDEO.
What this means in Your situation is above me.
    • free space on internal boot hard disk? How much ?
    Video codec
    • streamingDV, AIC etc. (not .avi, .mp4, .m4v, .wmv etc as they are containers not codecs)
    Pictures
    • in what format ? .jpg, .bmp, .tif, else ?
    Audio
    • from where/what format ? iTunes, .avi, .mp3, .aiff, else ?

I fixed the problem.. but it was very, very strange. I had a very long section for credits and set the line spacing to 1.0.. for some reason this caused it. I removed it, and it worked fine. I put it back, and I couldn't preview or play the video.
I don't know why that could cause that big of a problem, but it did..

You need more free space on your hard drive.

Where do Your material come from
    • Camera
    • External hard disk
    • USB-memory
And all are connected so that iMovie can find it ?

Shorter clips than 1,5 sec might be one of the culptrits

    Set-Up might differ
    • Mac OS - most probably X.7 or more
    • iMovie version - more than iM'11 v. 9.0.4
    Action taken
    • Finalizing project - I never do as I never understood the gain to do so
    • Share as HD to iDVD - never give any gain but if it works the resulting DVD is less quality than if SD-quality was shared
    fps - set
    •I only use PAL (25fps)

  • How do I stop Quicktime player from auto-launching after I've exported a movie from iMovie 10?

How do I stop Quicktime player from auto-launching after I've exported a movie from iMovie 10?
It's really annoying for Quicktime player to auto-lauch!

It may not be that simple David. They're using a "server" and some of the Apache software may want to launch QuickTime at boot.
This isn't really a QuickTime question. It's a sever question best answered in those Discussion pages.

  • After exporting a video from imovie, to quicktime, the audio has been duplicated. How can I fix this?

after exporting a video from imovie, to quicktime, the audio has been duplicated. How can I fix this?

iMovie works best with uncompressed audio. If your track is MP3 or AAC, you may get better results by converting your track to the AIFF format and then using that in iMovie.
You can do this in iTunes. Go to iTunes/Preferences and click the General button. On the General page, click the Import Settings button. Choose IMPORT USING: AIFF ENCODER.
(note: remember what you changed it from so you can change it back later, before you import another CD)
Now, in iTunes, select your track. Then click FILE/CREATE NEW VERSION/AIFF VERSION.

  • Why can't I export a file from imovie

I used to be able to export a file from iMovie to my desktop, but now it doesn't work!

Software Update may have cancelled out your QuickTime PRO license. Did you notice any QuickTime updates when you did the update?
For instance, I have a PRO key for QuickTime 6.5 that was not valid for QuickTime 7 so I had to buy a new one. My first option was to de-install version 7 and go back to 6.5 for the PRO functionality. But later on, that was no longer a viable option since version 7 was the standard for some things, so I just went and paid the $29.99 for the new PRO key.
That could be your problem. Since without a PRO key, you don't have those options available under "expert settings."
I think... (and I've been working heavily with iMovie for years-- never made the jump to Final Cut yet, though have used Motion 2 in addition to iMovie. Works for me. I did get the Studio upgrade, but am waiting to buy a MacBook Pro to use it).

  • I cannot export my movies from iMovie since updating to Mavericks.

I cannot export my movies from iMovie since updating to Mavericks. I can get it into Theater then it says "Creating movie" but nothing happens. I can select share movie into a file, I can pick a name, resolution and location, but it doesn't save. I get the blue circle in the top right hand corner but nothing seems to happen. iMovie used to work perfectly, I cannot believe the update has ruined it!!!!

  • How can I export via QuickTime in iMovie '13 (10.0)?

Prior versions of iMovie had an export via QuickTime option, which allowed me to select the file format, encoding settings, etc. After upgrading to the new iMovie, that appears to have gone away. The Share -> File option does not allow me that level of control over the output file. Has that functionality been removed from iMovie?

I'm also having trouble with this. The new version of iMovie lost a lot of its features and is clearly focused toward the social media side of things. After importing using SD cameras that import video in a *square* PiP format, I am finding it impossible to update any of my settings to export the video in any other format that wouldn't cut out the picture. Basically, the only settings I've found in the share option of the iMovie 10.0 cu off the tops and bottoms of all my recording. Previously, I used QuickTime settings to pick what format and quality I wanted to export in. Does anyone have any insight about how to export using, say, a 640 x 480 format or in being able to adjust to any format other than the standard ones giving.
Is there any other video software I can be using to import and export with that gives me more functionality?

  • Exporting HD video From iMovie to play on PS3

    Hello,
I hope someone out there can help. I've been trying to export an 8 minute iMovie project from my MacBook Pro so that I can stream or play it one my PS3 in HD. I've been trying to find just the right setting so that the video file will not be enormous and more importantly play on my PS3. When converted to avi I found the file size was huge. I also found that my PS3 was not able to play a .mov.
The video was shot using a Sanyo HD2000 which is 1080i. I have the camera settings at 60 frames. Should the video export also be the same? I am trying to avoid compressing the video. The footage imports quick as can be and looks great. Can anyone out there suggest settings that I might be able to use to maintain the HD picture quality?

  • Don't get timecode via firewire from FCP to Panasonic HVX200A for DV.

When I try to 'print to video' or just play the timeline for a NTSC DV sequence, I get video and audio on my Panasonic HVX200A camera, but no timecode. The timecode display on the camera doesn't move and when I 'Log and Capture' the video that I just recorded, the 'Log and Capture' just sits there displaying 'Waiting for timecode' while the tape is actually playing in the camera.
The camera setting for '1394 TC REGEN' is set to 'on' which means that the camera will get the timecode from the firewire instead of creating the timecode itself.
The 'no timecode' problem is the same for output to tape or P2 cards.
I am using the DV-NTSC Easy Setup for device control, etc.
But.... When I output an HD (720P/60P) sequence from the timeline to the P2 cards, the timecode is immediately visible on the camera's timecode counter. I can even send the DV sequence above to the HD P2 setup and the DV timecode will show up.
How can I get FCP 7 to send the timecode via firewire to my HVX200A using a DV recording setup options on the camera?

But I can send the time code from both a 720P/24P sequence and a NTSC DV sequence using the 720P/60P FCP video playback setup to the Panasonic HVX200A using the camera recording setup 720P/60P.
If I change the starting timecode for my active sequence from 01:00:00:00 to 03:00:00:00 and press play, the timecode sent to the camera displays the correct hh:mm:ss:ff starting with 03.
So you can output timecode using HD settings. And you can send a DV sequence to the same HD settings and see that DV timecode. Although, the DV frame is surrounded by black on all sides.
But why can't you output a DV timecode to a DV setup HVX200A?
Also, if you wanted to create a DV tape using the filters that burn a visual timecode to the tape, don't you need to be sure that you can send the timecode with video so that they are in sync when recorded? You wouldn't want the camcorder to provide timecode that doesn't exactly match the burned to image timecode?

  • How do I export a file from iMovie that is larger than 15min?

I currently made a video on iMovie that I would like to export. However everything I have tried ends with a message coming from iMovie saying the file is too long. I've heard of exporting to quicktime but in the share option i don't see quicktime. I haven't tried just putting a usb in and seeing if i can come how paste it in but i don't think that will work.
Need this for Valentines Day any suggestions would be great!

So early i tried to convert it into a file first and at first it said it didn't work. Then the file popped up, but i couldn't open it and this message popped up "To see if additional software is available that will enable QuickTime Player to open the movie, click Tell Me More.". Which was not useful at all. But after a while i guess it completed exporting and i can now access it as a file. Thought I'd share my experience.

  • Export to FCE from iMovie

Ok so I exported some video that I did a ruff cut on through the share menu vie the XML option from iMovie 09. When I bring it into Final Cut Express 4.0.1 the image stabilization is gone and my video is now all jerky again. Other than that all the other adjustment done in iMovie are preserved. Any way to preserve the image stabilization importing to Final Cut Express or exporting from iMovie. Or maybe an affect that Final Cut Express has that I can use to simulate stabilization. I do not want to just export the video as quicktime and then import it into Final Cut since this will mean I have to manually split all the different cense and then do more sensitive editing.

so, why not using iM as stabilizer-tool only?
drag all your material which needs stabilization into a Project, export as appleintermediate.mov
import the resulting file into FC/e, edit, raw or sensitive there.
I'm following this workflow in my projects for color-keying material - iMovie's 'green screen' feature is unbeatable in speed & convenience, compared to FC/e's color-key effects.

  • 3 attempts to export a movie from iMovie - pulling my hair out

I have a large project in Imovie 11, mixture of video clips and photographs. I have tried 3 times to export to HD. This takes 11 hours to run  each time so you can imagine how frustrated I am!!!!  I am using the menu option SHARE, EXPORT MOVIE, and choosing HD. Like I said it takes 11 hours then I get error -49 cannot prepare movie, I have had this 3 times now so frustrated, please can anyone help me, what am I doing wrong?
I read somewhere on this forum about running analyze video, but when I choose this the options are greyed out so I cannot choose any. Help before I jump out the window, thank you.

    Hi Geoffrey,
Right-click (or Control-click) on one of the video clips in the project timeline. From the pop-up menu select Reveal in Finder. Now open the clip with QuickTime and select from the menu "Window > Show Movie Inspector". In the Inspector, tell us what is shown for Format and FPS (frames per second).
It's possible that you are using an unusual video format (codec) that iMovie is having trouble with. Another possibility is that one or more of your photos is corrupted.
One thing to try is to select from iMovie's menu "File > Optimize Video" (you mentioned Analyze Video, but that is quite different to Optimizing).
Another suggestion is to turn off Time Machine when exporting, if you have that running.
I may be back with other suggestions (but dish washing and wife's cuppa tea is beckoning)!
