Exporting Video Effects

Is it possible to use the iChat video effects with applications other than iChat itself (for example, Skype)? I noticed "Photobooth" is using the same effects, too.

Clip video effects suddenly aren't working on already-exported project!

I exported an iMovie 11 project to iTunes, and then realized I didn't apply color changes to it. I went back into iMovie, then trimmed a clip and it gave me the usual "you have edited your project, you'll have to finalize it again", or whatever it usually says. But then I went to edit the video effects, and no results are showing in the viewer...?

Reboot. For some reason, I had experienced a loss of audio in '11 on a couple of PROJECTS even though I clearly saw the streams still there as welll as the transition effects and after a reboot, they worked again. Plus, check your drive space. Depending on how long the video is, it may be taking up too much space therefore hosing up the memory.

Effects in exported video render incorrectly

I've been trying to export a sequence that includes a rotated shot with greenscreen. The problem is every time I try to export the sequence in compressor the shot is rotated back to 0 degrees. Everything else including the greenscreen in the same shot exports correctly. If I render the shot in the timeling in FCP it looks correct. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks for the quick reply. But then why does the still's properties (in my bin) show the pixel aspect ratio as 1.3333 (not square pixels, 1.0) and should it not appear incorrectly in both the preview renders and the exported video ? This seems inconsitent to me.

Premiere Elements 7: track matte key video effect does not work?

I want to use the track matte key video effect to fade out some cropped video clips. So I did a test:
first track: video clip
second track: PNG file, black with white circle
third track: video clip with FX with second track (here: Video 5) and luminance
As you can see in the picture the small preview pic above the effects shows the effect like I expected: a circle with the content of the third, lowest, clip. But the large video preview shows the first clip.
What did I do wrong?
I tested other settings and track orders. No efforts.

But I can't help. The white area stays (see screenshot top left corner). Only some of the small blurred area around the shape shines through as I could see playing around without blurring the video clip.
I used:
title with white (it is 100% white) shape and blur effect above
video clip with track matte effect and matte alpha on the title track, reversed (blur effect on whole clip like in the tutorial)
Rendering and export does not change anything.
I'm feeling a bit stupid.

Unusable video effects in fcpx

fcpx 10.0.9, mac osx 10.8.5
video effects do not respond when scrolling over them (after having selected a clip), or turn black or pink. no preview available.
when moving them on top of a clip, they cannot be adjusted.
not all effects have this problem. only the Looks effects.
all settings of these effects are also set automatically to min. or max. when putting them on top of a clip.
I have reïnstalled FCPX, Motion and Compressor, without result.
It is also not possible to render or export/share the video directly within fxpx or compressor. Compressor scips all color corretion.
I have to make an 10bit uncompressed file first, then import in compressor. Then it works...
I cannot switch to fcpx 10.1, because ProTools is not working with Mavericks yet...
anyone experienced this before?

Which video effects for vhs lp mode?

a single vhs tape containing six hours of video is captured to mpg format. as you can imagine, the quality is lower than one might like. studying every video effect offered by pp4 would take me a lifetime. can you suggest a few effects i might look at for improving the quality of this low quality video?

Craig's right though, I know it's a pain and will take a lot more HD space, but if you can capture as DV, make your changes, and then export to mpg the results will be much better. I made DVD's of three old VHS tapes that were multi-generation copies and decades old. They were concert videos shot from the audience with VHS, and they had faded out terribly over the years. I mostly just did some sharpening and adjusted the color, gamma, light, and contrast. I also deinterlaced with TMPGEnc while doing the mpg conversion. They all came out quite a bit better. The bigger challenge was restoring the sound.

How Do I Add CODECs (e.g., FFV1, Lagarith) to Photoshop's 'Export Video' Options?

I'm trying to add lossless CODECs (e.g., FFV1, Lagarith) to Photoshop (and Premiere and After Effects and Adobe Media Encoder) so that I can generate archival videos with the highest possible lossless compression ratios. I've installed several CODECs, but none of them appear in Photoshop's 'Export Video' options, for example. How do I get these CODECs to appear?
For the record, I'm using CS5.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

I was concentrating almost entirely on Photoshop, where the new CODECs weren't appearing. To make things worse, I'm new to AME and wasn't looking in the right places. Selecting AVI and then breesing down to the Codec dropdown revealed Lagarith, ffdshow (FFV1, HuffYUV, etc.). Awesome. Now, let's give these suckers a whirl....

Using video effects in quicktime pro

how can i access the video effects in quicktime pro every time i try and use the filters i cant apply them to the movie can any one help ie fade dissolve etc any threaaaaaaad would help can not find anything in the manuals have been looking for hours ??????????????

A "movie" made from still images and some sound tracks. All made using QuickTime Pro.
The "transitions" were made by taking the still images and adding them "scaled" to a ten second audio track. The audio was deleted so then I had about 50 little ten second videos. Two of these videos were merged into one file using:

Thousands of combinations can be created.
They were all added over another QT track (map of Texas) and their position and transparency levels and layers were adjusted. Last I copied all of this file and added it "scaled" to my two sound tracks.
The "filters" can be accessed via the Export "Movie to QuickTIme Movie" but they are applied to the entire file at export. If you wish to use more than one filter you should first create separate files from your source project.
The end result (a 4 MB file) would require over 300 MB's if done in an application like iMovie. The transitions add nearly nothing to the total file size when you do them using QuickTIme Pro.

AE exported video appears black in Premiere Pro

Do I have wrong settings or something in my Premiere (Pro 1.5) or more likely in export settings of my After Effects 6.5, cause after I've exported a video clip from AE and bring it to Premiere, the video turns black. I can hear it's audio though.
If I watch the same exported video with some video player, it's ok.

Umm, could you please provide some format specs? You know, I can watch videos on YouTube "in some player" and it's okay, but that does not mean that these videos will have any value in Premiere. Not meaning to be snobistic here, but everyone's telepathy can only go so far and in my case it seems I'm not tuned to your brainwave length....

Audio levels in exported video [Premiere Pro CS6]

The audio level is just what I want in the actual track. However, when I export the video the exported audio is too loud. So I went back and lowered the clip by 3dB...the volume level of exported video still didn't change--it sounds like people are shouting.
This is a new problem...is there a setting in the export dialog box I have accidentally changed?

I have found this to be a problem in CC at one of the places I work.
Export at 16bit perfect levels with a tone ident...bring it back it into the project and now -3db.
I tried exporting 32bit float and it comes out 3db higher!
Only method I have found is to export audio separately to a 32bit file then in a new final video sequence, replace the audio timeline with this file and adjust levels. The new export seems to come out at the right levels
May have something to do with a bug in the pan law but you can't adjust settings like in Audition.
Many bugs in this program causing me nightmares....
....Can't save track preset effects and have to copy complicated track EQ and compression settings by hand
....Track effect settings adjustments that revert as soon as you click away or hit play
....Very slow with crashes and freezes in sequences with nested sequences.
Leave plenty of time for your final exports...you will need it

Video effects not working on nested sequences in Premiere Pro CS5

I am having some trouble with Premiere ProCS5. I have a project with a few clips which I put together in one sequence. I put this sequence into another sequence. There I will add one or two tracks of additional images and apply color correction.
The problem is: None of the video effects I drag onto the sequence (which now is a nested sequence) have any effect. Whatever I change in the effect controls will not sho up in the monitor. Audio effects do work, though. Furthermore, none of the tracks above the nested clip are displayed. To clarify: The nested track is on V1, another clip is on V2 and an image is on V3. Only V1 gets displayed.
I know this is supposed to work and it actually does in another project created in the same version on the same machine with the same kind of material. But no matter how often I create a new project, applying video effects to a nested sequence just does not work.
Even more strange is the fact that my applied effects DO show up in the "Export Settings" window. They DON'T, however, in the final rendered file. I would suggest this is a bug.
What could be the reason for this behaviour?

It can help if you Toggle Track Output to ON. The visibility icon on the left side on each track.

PRE 9: multiline title overlay with a "warp wave" Video effect

I am trying for the following effect: Overlay a photo of a garden that is transmuting from a plane photo to a cartoon image (I have succeeded with this part of the effect) with a title. On separate part of the time line I have created a title that will be a video overlay of the photo & starts out with 0 opacity goes to 100% as "warp wave" Video effect (I have succeeded with this part of the effect) & then straightens out to be normal text --this is the part I can't correctly do.
When I figure out how to do the above I still have to move this sectional piece to overlay the Garden photo, which could be problematic
I will gladly change this method if there is easier way to accomplish the title, which is a multiline overlay to a photo with a "warp wave" Video effect that straightens out the text.
Has anyone done something similar?

Although it sounds like you're creating your title effect on a separate timeline? Not sure why you're doing that. It makes much more sense to just put it on a video track above your background.
If the Title is in a different Project, then Exporting/Sharing with Transparency must be considered. A Title in PrE will have Transparency, but one must take that into consideration, when doing the Export/Share, for use in other Projects. This is where the Millions of Colors + comes in, with many formats/CODEC's. The + is the Alpha Channel, and will be needed for Transparency.

Video effects ineffectual

I am using iMovie HD 6 to edit a video for a project. The problem with this video is that someone imported it using the wrong aspect ratio, and now it's stretched vertically. In the past I have solved this problem by running the video through MediaFork and editing the picture settings, but that wouldn't work this time. So I downloaded a plug-in for iMovie called Aspect Ratio which is designed for exactly my situation and will hypothetically let you stretch it back to normal size as one of the video effects in the 'Video FX' panel. I can get it all set up to look right, but as soon as I push the 'apply' button it goes back to the way it was and doesn't apply the effect.
Thinking there was something wrong with the plug-in, I tried to apply different effects, such as fog and lens flare, and they don't work either! I can still edit other videos - even the aspect ratio plug-in works on different videos, but this particular one won't let me edit it at all. When I click the apply button all that happens is the preview screen disappears, it doesn't even try to apply the effect. I've tried importing the video several times, from several different copies. It's an Mpeg 4 video file.
Anyone know what's going on here?

A student had a similar problem today in class. We deleted prefs and then exported the offending clip as full quality quicktime and imported it back into the movie and applied the effect and it worked.
Our problem was not a black frame but the fact that the add buttom was greyed out.
Might work who knows.

Video effects cause flickering in rendered output video

I'm working on a few videos for my company right now and I'm having problems with my final exports. After editing the video to my liking I apply a few video effects like the shadow/highlight tool and some color correction. The only problem is, when I export the video I see a lot of flickering. Its like the effect is changing settings during play back. Ive tried changing the "temporal smoothing" settings, but aside from increased render times It seems to have little effect.
The video was originally shot in HDV at 1080i. The output settings I've been using are Quicktime>mpeg-4>progressive scan.
Please help me figure out this problem.

I hardly ever disagree with Dan, but find Shadow & Highlight a useful tool, depending on the footage. However, if one leaves it in Auto mode, you WILL get flickering at every lighting change. I have never found a reason to use Auto, and will use the Razor Tool to separate my "Clips," then apply S&H but with manual settings, for each.
It's like S&H in PS. I always just dupe a Layer, apply, and then adjust the Opacity of these two Layers, since H&S cannot be applied as an Adjustment Layer, because of the way it works.
It is a great Effect, but one must be very careful with it and be ready to make manual adjustments on a scene-by-scene basis.
Matter of fact, unless one has an entire Clip of a talking head, in the same exact lighting conditions (and I mean 100% same), no "Auto" function works well. Maybe one day I'll find one and eat a few words, but I don't think so.
Study your footage, use the Razor and apply H&S with only manual settings - judge them critically.

I agree that Levels (non-Auto) is very useful. It would be better, if Premiere had Curves, like PS, but it doesn't. H&S is rather like Levels, but with A-B masks applied, based on the image's H&S levels. On footage that I have not created, Levels is my first stop, and I set these manually. Often, PP's H&S is my #2, also on manual. If all is not "right," I'll move on to the two main color correctors and adjust the fine points. Levels will do a lot, but falls short of Curves, which PP doesn't have. H&S, used wisely, can get one close.
Now, all that said, lighting the scene is the best "cure," but some of us do not have that leisure - we have to work with client's footage and some of it is bleak indeed.

Exported video plays choppy

I exported my video from Final Cut Express and when I play the .mov file, part of it plays choppy. I'm not sure what to do at this point, can anyone help me out?
File footage is from a Canon 7D
1980x1080
24fps
H.264 compressor
My export settings are:
Export using Quicktime Conversion
Compression Type: H.264
Frame Rate: Current
Key Frames Every 24 frames
Compressor Quality: Best
Dimensions: 1920x1080
Deinterlace Source Video is checked
Audio settings - AAC, quality "Best"
This is for a music video so I have an audio track with it.
The quality of the exported video is good but at different points in the exported video, the video seems to stuttering, kind of like a strobe effect. I've tried other export settings, but I lose quality with them. Any help would be really appreciated.
I don't know if this matters, but I changed my sequence settings to 1920x1080i60, but whenever I go back to the sequence settings, it seems to be back on DV NTSC 48kHz

Ok, sorry for the questions, but I am new to this.
To avoid having to recreate the video in Pro, would I be able to:
- Open the FCE project in Pro in order to keep my cuts and effects how I have them
- Reimport the file footage thru ProRes in FCP
- Match the media files in the timeline to the newly imported footage
- Adjust the sequence settings to match the file footage
Or do I just have to recreate the video?
