Exporting video from iPhoto to Desktop

I take a video with my iPhone4.
I download it to iPhoto (9.3.2) on my MBP Retina (Mtn Lion).
I export it from iPhoto to my desktop.
When I play it on my desktop (QT 10.2), I get no picture and no sound.
What's happening?

If you export as a Jpeg then you're telling it to export a movie as a still image. Jpeg is a format for photos, not video
iPhoto performs no compression on video at all. It has no relevance to the issue at hand.

  • Cannot export video from iphoto to other location

    Hello ,
i could not move video from iphoto to external hard disk or desktop. I'm using Mac Pro with RD. The steps I did as below:
    1. Select the video
    2. File, export , select origin, ok
    3.  error message appear stated that video could not be prepared .
Any way to do it ?

The problem is that iPhoto is looking in the wrong place for the file:
    / Volumes/Sagate/Iphoto_Library_2014.photolibrary/Previews/2014....... "
It should be looking in the Originals folder.
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Exporting videos from iPhoto

For the life of me, I can't figure out a way to export videos which I imported into iPhoto from my camera. I can export it to my desktop but can't export them in a format that I can then import into Vimeo or other video sharing site.
What the heck does a guy gotta do to share his simple .avi videos with others on the Internet?
I tried exporting it from Quicktime too, but sadly, exporting my own video from Quicktime requires that I have a Pro account. Sad but true.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
To export a video from iPhoto:
Select the video in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. Set the *Kind: to Original*. This will export your video.
can't export them in a format that I can then import into Vimeo or other video sharing site.
Why? What formats do they require? Do the videos require shifting to a new format?
What the heck does a guy gotta do to share his simple .avi videos with others on the Internet?
Who can tell, when you don’t explain where the procedure breaks down for you.
I tried exporting it from Quicktime too, but sadly, exporting my own video from Quicktime requires that I have a Pro account. Sad but true.
Why is that sad? When you export from Quicktime you are shifting formats or otherwise editing the video.

  • Exporting video from iPhoto including music added and theme

    Hi,
is there a way to export a video from iPhoto including music and theme?
I'm able to export the video itself, with its native sound, but the theme and music added in iPhoto is not included. When trying to share on Flickr - running in to the same problem.
Don't think it makes a difference, but the video was taking by GoPro Black and the audio added was purchased in iToons store.
    Really appreciate your help
    Thanks!
    Lanawwylma77

iPhoto has no ability to add anything to video. Do you mean a slideshow? If so, how are you exporting?
the audio added was purchased in iToons store.
You may run into copyright issues if you upload that to a site like flickr or youtube.

  • How to export videos from iPhoto 11

I have synced a load of pics and videos from iphone 5 to iPhoto 11 v9.4.2.
I want to get the vids on youtube (this option is not available via the share button in iPhoto).
I have tried exporting the video from iPhoto so i can do the upload manually as a normal file, however exporting the video (as original file format) causes it to export as a .jpg and not as the video format.
I would have done it form the phone but this fails everytime whether i am on 3g or wi-fi.
iPhoto does not even allow me to see the file location via get info so i cant even just go and find them myself!
How am i supposed to get the video file on my mac somewhere where i can see the file and upload it myself seeing as iphoto does not provide an upload to youtube option?
    Please help!
    Thanks

If you select the video in the browser and use the command
File > Reveal in Finder > Original file
you should see the video file. Does that not work for you?
Also, you should be able to export the video:
         File > Export
and set the "Kind" pop-up menu to "Original", like this:

  • Error message exporting video from iPhoto

Running IMAC  OSX version 10.9.4  iPhoto version 9.5.1 and also Aperture 11.    I had a made a video and photo slideshow on my Mac air and wanted to get it onto my iMac.  I spent some time at the Apple store getting help in how to back the Mac Air iPhoto library onto an external hard drive and merge it with my library on the iMac.  That all work wonderful using iPhoto manager.  The only problem was the slide show doesn't merge...... one thing the iPhoto manager doesn't do!!!  !  So i am still trying to get that slideshow (which is a mixture of photos and video) into my main library on my iMac.    In the end i want to run my photos and videos  from the EHD.  When I try to export the slideshow all the pictures go but none of the videos.  I get an error message that "unable to prepare video for export..........."  I have read thru the forum and there doesn't seem to be a good answer for this error message......how do i get this slideshow into my main library??????

    and also Aperture 11.
Aperture goes to v3, there us no Aperture 11. With v3 and iPhoto v9 you can merge the two libraries without using iPhoto Library Manager.

  • Exporting video from iPhoto

I just upgraded to most recent Yosemite and movies/videos in iPhoto disappeared. They are there in that you can play them in iPhoto, but you can't drag them out, when you search on the file name you get only a small image/icon file. Trying to open the file from quicktime it cannot find the file. You can only access it in iMovie which is a pain in the ***.
Also,I don't know when this happened, but iPhoto Library can no longer be accessed from Finder.

I had already tried to export as original, it doesn't work. All you get is a picture of the first frame, i.e. the jpeg preview, which opens in quicktime since the extension is MP4 as the video.
The link you gave is about how to export photos not videos.
But I did finally figure it out. In the file menu select reveal in Finder. This shows all the files in the selected event which now you can drag.

  • Export videos from iPhoto 11 - choose format?

I'm trying to export phoos and videos form iPhoto 11 to an SD card for a digital photo frame. The photos are no problem. I seem to have a problem with the frame reading videos, and am assuming it's a formatting issue.
The specifications for the frame say it can accept videos as "Motion jpeg, Mpeg-4".
When I export from iPhoto, the files are either .AVI or .MOV (I guess depending on what they were filmed on in the first place.)
Can I "export as MP4" or such like? I can't find such an option.

I had the same problem with a test library of mine.  The only fix I found was this:
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button,
and select the library you want to add from those in the selection window.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the Library ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
    The downside is:
Note 1: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments. However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost.
Note 2:  Your current library will be left untouched for further attempts at a fix if so desired.

  • HT1100 Exporting video from iphoto

I exported my iphoto library to a external back-up, once everything was moved, I deleted my iphoto library. I now have realized that the video's in my library were exported into jpeg format. Is there anyway to reverse this? Can I restore the format of the video? Can I restore my deleted library? There is a yr's worth of video's of my little girl.

Load your backup from before you made this error - that is why you must always have a good backup - people, computers and software all make errors - your backup is the solution to all of these
I exported my iphoto library to a external back-up, once everything was moved,
What did you expect to accomplish here? for a backup you do not export - you need an exact copy of your entire iPhoto library
To export a video you must export with kind = original

  • The correct format to export videos and photos from iphoto to desktop

I need to export all photos/videos from iphoto to desktop and make a dvd.I learned that videos must be exported in "original" in order to actually see them on my desktop. But should I choose "original" format when exporting photos as well?I wanted to select=file=original for all together(making one big dvd), but will I be saving my photos wrongly?Should photos be saved in jpeg or another given choice?I just want to have everything finally saved on a dvd for keepers sake and finally go develop my photos.

    Set the Kind to Jpeg
Then the Quality to to High
And that will be good quality

  • Why do videos show up in photos and why can't i export them from iPhoto for iOS

Somehow, I just don't get it:
If I take a picture on my iPhone 5s, it is saved to 'Pictues' ... sound reasonable.
If I take a video on the same device, it is saved to 'Pictures' ... that's where it gets messy.
If I receive a video on an app like e.g. WhatsApp ... it also get's stored in ... guess what ... 'Pictures'!
Now that's a little bit confusing.
Generally I would like to keep these different types of media (still pictures vs. moving images) in separate spaces, but it seems like that is not possible out of the box, because if go ahead and tab on that share-button in iOS 7 i get prompted to share the videos to various installed apps like e.g. YouTube, Vimeo, Twitter - you name it.
It seems like there is no way to export videos from 'Pictures' to 'Videos', even if you use iPhoto for iOS in the gap.
The only ways (that I found) to get what I want are way to circumstantial:
Either use iPhoto for the Mac to import videos from the iCloud Photostream to the Mac and from there via "Show in Finder" re-import to iTunes' 'Videos'
or use iExplorer (a third party application for the Mac) and export the videos from the iPhone to a temp-folder and from there re-import with iTunes to 'Videos'.
Why isn't there just a simple share-sheet or export label called 'Export to Videos'.
    Why doesn't it just work?
Am I missing out on something?
Is there an easier way to complete this relatively simple task?
Hints and support are very much appreciated!
    Kind regards,
    Chris

Hi. My camera is a Canon 600D. And yes my videos are stored in the Aperture library and they are not referenced. Even then I tried to select all the videos in Aperture and clicked 'consolidate masters' and there was a messge that said all 'none of the files are referenced',... so they didn't need consolidating.
I also tried preferences> export> external video editor > choose > iMovie. And then right click on the video to edit with imovie. Even then the video didn't show up in iMovie. It seems like the only option for me is to import the videos directly to iMovie which means there will be two versions of the same file stored in my computer eating up space.
