Exporting video/movies to burn to DVD

Trying to figure out how to export videos/movies to a compatable DVD. Currently the videos/movies play through Quicktime player that are in my iPhoto library. When I select the videos I want to export the iDVD option along with the Export option goes away. Tried to select burn disc and all it did was burn the first frame of every video and nothing more. Trying to preserve my childrens memories before I attempt to install leopard and risk losing a lot of cherished photos/videos

You're better off by creating a data DVD through the Finder or elsewhere than attempting to use iDVD or similar software to create a video DVD. Locate the video files in the Finder and burn them as you would any other file.

  • I made a movie in iMovie from an imported slideshow. How do I export the movie to burn on a disc to play on a pc

I made a movie in iMovie from an imported slideshow. How do I export the movie to burn on a disc to play on a pc? I burned one copy and it didn't playback properly on the PC. The pictures played extremely slow while the music played

    Hi cortiz58,
    Welcome to the Support Communities!
What version of iMovie are you working with?  Is your end goal that you need to play the file on a Windows computer, or is it that you need to burn the file to DVD?
See this link for tips to re-wrap your file for Windows:

If you export the iMovie file as a .mov file, you can play it in iTunes for Windows on your PC.
If you want the ability to burn to DVD, then you may consider downloading the free 30 day trial of our professional video application.  Final Cut Pro X can import your iMovie project and burn it to DVD.

  • Can Movies be burned to DVD?

Can movies be burned to DVD in new iTunes 7 ? Thanks

You see, this is why I was excited about iTunes 7. Until the player comes out, there's no point in buying movies unless you have the space on your ipod (and money) to have multiple copies of the same movie in different formats.
Same reason why I don't understand UMD on the PSP. A portable DVD player would be just as useful.
I can burn protected audio files to CD and use elsewhere, why not TV shows and movies?
I apologize for simply ranting, though I do appreciate that somebody had the answer to this as being no (currently).
Apple is all about freedom, this seems to be a step in the wrong direction.
Everything else about iTunes 7 appears amazing. Just highly disappointing, I suppose. I was done buying DVDs at the store if this had been a yes...

  • How do I mute the sound from the video camera when burning a DVD

Hi there.  I'm a new user of Elements 8.  I have compiled some clips and added a soundtrack to the movie,  When you preview the file you don't hear the sound from the video camera but when I burn it to a DVD you still hear the video background.  How do I burn the DVD without the background sound from the video camera?  On the DVD I only want to hear the soundtrack I added.
    Thank you,
    Doug

Thanks guys.  Both options worked.  Dowside to deleting audio (option I went with) appears to be that you lose the audio forever.  So if I ever wanted to bring the audio back I wouldn't be able to.
You are partially correct in that the Audio is no longer on your Timeline. It is still in your Project Panel, and you can move it back to your Timeline if ever needed. The complete removal from the Timeline is why I work with the Audio Mixer in cases like this. Also, on could alter the Gain on a Clip by Clip basis.
With using the audio mixer it appeared I had to mute each clip separately.  When I highlighted all the clips and selected mute for audio 1 it wouldn't mute all of the selected clips.
The Audio Mixer works at the Track-level, and not at the Clip-level. That is why I use it so often - one click, or slider adjustment affects the entire chosen Track. If it did not work at a Track-level for you, something is wrong. Now, if one has Clips on different Tracks, then Muting of all of those would be required, or one would have address things on a Clip-level basis.
Any way to use the audio mixer to mute the clips in mass?
See above for how it should work, and also the exceptions - Audio on several Audio Tracks.
Good luck, and remember that your Audio still resides in the Project Panel, should you ever need it again.

  • Last 10 seconds of video won't burn to DVD

here is the process I'm using to burn my DVD... I'm using Mpeg-2 video and AC3 audio, and creating a disk image (.img) using DVDSP4. Then I'm burning using Disk Utility at 2x speed, because burning straight from DVDSP4 was giving me problems.
The problem is that the DVD will not go beyond 12 minutes and 22 seconds.
Originally, my video was that length, but then I realized that it didn't fade out at the end, so I went into Final Cut, added the fade, and then re-compressed the video and audio, made a new disk image, but for some reason the dvds I'm burning are still the same, it ends at 12min 22sec, with no fade. I'm sure that the mpeg is the complete video, because I watched it in quicktime, and when I simluate the disk in DVDSP4 it plays the complete video, but then when I burn it, the end is not there. any ideas why this would be happening?

When you go to 'Build & Format' in the dialogue box the second section is about the 'Source'. If you have already built this project once then DVDSP will fill in the details within that section for you, assuming that you want to re-use the same build, which saves time. However, you should specify a new folder there and let DVDSP re-create this from scratch if you are having problems.

  • Can iTunes downloaded movies be burned to DVD

When you purchase a movie from iTunes store, can that movie be burned to a DVD for viewing on a regular TV via a connected DVD player.
Or is the movie limited to view only in iTunes and iPod....???
Because I just purchased and downloaded my first movie from iTunes and can't figure it out.
If we can make music CD's why not movie DVD's...?

can that movie be burned to a DVD for viewing on a regular TV via a connected DVD player.
    No.
Or is the movie limited to view only in iTunes and iPod....?
    Those and iPhones.
If we can make music CD's why not movie DVD's...?
Because the same music can be purchased from a retail store in an unprotected form. Movies purchased through iTunes and from retail stores contain two different DRM models; DVDs burned on a computer don't contain copy protection.

  • Export FCP movie for burning in iDVD

I created a 30 minute movie in Final cut pro. When I exported the file, it was 25 gig. I want to burn the movie to DVD in Imovie and obviously it was a smidge large.. What are the best and most effective settings in FCP to do this. I am new to FCP so any help is greatly appreciated.

It doesn't matter how large the file is.
Drop it into iDVD and iDVD should compress it to a suitable size for a DVD.
The only measurement that matters is the length as iDVD cannot deal with projects longer than around 2 hours.

  • Purchased Movie to burn on DVD

I believe it should say that you will not be able to burn to a DVD on the website so it would not be misleading. I feel that I was mis-informed about the purchase of a movie. I thought paying $12.99 for a movie was pretty good but didn't know at the time I would only be able to play the movie on my computer. I would like to be reimbursed.

this is a user to user troubleshooting forum, so it would probably be better to take this up directly with Apple. for contact information, see:

  • No sound when movies are burned onto DVD

I have sound in my movies when I preview the project before I burn it but after it's burned the sound disappears from the movies... The theme music is there but no sound from the movies. Was I suppose to import sound or something? Please help.

Hi, am not an expert like the others are, but I too had the same problem and read somewhere in this forum that this happens (no sound) if you had chapter markers on your iMovie and you placed the chapter mark at a place that doesnt exactly align with where the music for that chapter starts. So what I did was to go back to my iMovie project, i deleted the previous chapter marker, made sure the music for that chapter started exactly where the chapter started, and then added a new chapter marker. then when you open iDVD, it will prompt you if you want to update your "assets", say yes. then go to Movies and drag that same project in.
I hope it works for you. It did for me (but unfortunately I found out there was no music in one of my chapters only after I had already burned 10 copies!!). Hope you are luckier.

  • Exporting photos & Burning a DVD-R

I have an album with some pics I'd like to send to a relative. I can't export the album - nothing happens. I have to make a slideshow first, then export the slideshow to a folder, insert a DVD-R, and
drag the folder to the DVD in the Finder. However the result is a QuickTime movie (of course, it's a
slideshow). How can I export the pics and burn a DVD so the result is not a movie. I just want to
view these pictures on my DVD player one-by-one. Does this make sense ?? Thankx for a quick reply........pfalcon.

You want to create a slideshow in iDVD.

  • How do I create a wide screen movie in Premiere Elements 7 and burn to DVD or Blue Ray?

I have created a movie using project settings of 16:9 and also filmed in this format.  The movie I burned to DVD is not in wide screen. I have requested assistance and given instructions to go through share and select Sony PSP.  However this creates a file which is saved to my computer in mpeg-4 format which will not burn to my DVD.  I am using a Blue Ray burner which looks as if it will only take MP3.  Any suggestions?

I haven't actually done a BluRay yet - waiting to get everything right and,
hopefully, will be able to put more than 1 movie when all is finished!
That's my next challenge. I initially used Share/Disc to burn the DVD with,
I thought, all the settings for widescreen.  It has always worked OK in
Pinnacle.  When I lodged the problem with tech support they sent me
instructions using the Sony PSP.  Interestingly I use a Sony camera, have a
Sony disc burner plus Sony TV and Playstation so you'd think they'd all talk
    to each other!!!

    http://www.jilldearing.blogspot.com/
Are your creating and burning your DVD (or is it a BluRay disc?) from
    Premiere Elements by choosing Share/Disc?
If so, it should produce a widescreen disc.
Sometimes DVD players don't automatically read home-burned DVDs as
widescreen and you have to manually switch it. But at the very least the
video should be either letterboxed or stretched.

  • Exporting rushes out of FCP onto DVD QUICKLY!

I have a translator waiting for me to export rolls of rushes from FCP 5.1 onto DVD so they can start work. He doesn't need high res pictures - VHS quality would be fine. I can't seem to use Compressor to do it quickly. Any suggestions kind world? I've got FCP Studio loaded.

The encode will always start off longer than it will actually take. 50 minutes should take less than that. Kind of depends on how many tracks there are audio and video-wise. Again, with a MacPro you should get less than realtime encoding.
Now, that's the easiest way to do it. You could try this . . . export a quicktime movie first, then encode that movie for burning a DVD. I used to always do this as it was ultimately faster. But, that was on G5 and a G4. The MacPro I use now encodes right from within FCP pretty fast. You could try it and see which method works faster.
One more thing that may help . . . in FCP under "tools" go to the render manager and delete all your renders for that project. Then, re-render the timeline. This will give FCP less to deal with render file wise and may increase encoding speed. Of course, this may be offset by having to re-render an entire 50 minute timeline, but it's another option.

  • Choppy Export Video - Export Settings, Sequence Settings, Capture Settings

    Hi all,
New to this forum and new to Final Cut Pro. Please forgive me if I ask bonehead questions... Please humor me and help me solve my problem.
    First off... Equipment
    CPU:
    12" Powerbook G4 1.5Ghz
    ~1.25 Gig RAM
    Camera:
    Canon GL2
    Problem:
When exporting video, it comes out choppy... as in three to seven frames per 45 seconds of video. The quality of the images is also poor, with horizontal lines where there is movement of the subject. The audio turns out just fine.
    What I am doing now:
    Capture:
MiniDV through FireWire - DV NTsc 48 khz
The footage looks good while editing... smooth
    Exporting:
I have tried quite a few different settings using the Quicktime Conversion.
Ultimately, I would like to export video for the following uses:
-Full-Size .mov Files burned to DVDs to play in Quicktime (also .avi)
-DVD quality for putting together DVDs that will play on a DVD player
    -Web upload
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance for your help...
    -JBH

Not 'bonehead' but certainly basic stuff...
Full size to put on data DVD:
Two options (one of which is NOT avi): File - Export - QTMovie - Current Settings - Selfcontained. This is the highest resolution you can export of your cut film. However, it will be a HUGE file size and you will only be able to fit a limited number of minutes on a 4.x gig dvd disc. Second option is to File - Export - QTConversion... Choose the highest quality from the dropdown menu and hit export. This will end up smaller... but will indeed have a 'quality' loss due to compression. Do take them OFF the disc when playing on a computer as they will choke during playback from the disc itself.
Export for DVD Player to TV (and DVD Player on Computers):
File - Export - QT Movie - Current Settings - not selfcontained. Take THAT file to COMPRESSOR and use the export presets for your length of movie. I like the 90 minute high quality 2 pass version for anything 90 minutes or less - I stay away from the 60 minute one. Do make sure you export the ac3 audio too. This will give you two files that you need to take to DVDSP to put together and build a DVD with. (else you can take the exported file before compressor and drop it into iDVD if you want). The quality will STILL be compressed, but is what it is for 'dvd quality' on a mac.
    Web Upload:
File - Export - QT Conversion... pulldown to Broadband High. I like that setting as is, but if I'm working with anamorphic material I'll need to hit the OPTIONS button and change the size (480x270).
Looks like this and is 3-5 megs per minute: http://web.mac.com/captmench/Site/ThreeBoysMovies/Entries/2006/7/20_Entry1.html
    Good luck,
