Exporting with Keywords

I scanned a bunch of documents and put them into iPhoto and meticulously tagged them.
Now I've decided I'd rather have them as PDFs so I can run OCR on them)
I do not want to lose my keywords.
I can export the images from iPhoto and preserve the keywords
the problem is... whether I use Acrobat Pro or Preview, there's no way to convert the JPGs to PDF and keep that embedded metadata.
How can I export from iPhoto and get my keywords put into the file's spotlight comments?
Some way with Automator?

Unfortunately PDF do not contain IPTC metadata fields and so cannot maintain your keywords. You can ask in the Automator or Applescript forum if anyone has a way of getting the iPhoto keywords into the Spotlight field for a file.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.≤br>
Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • Problem exporting with keywords in 1.3

When I export pictures to jpg Lightroom is no longer embedding keywords. I use this functionality when I send pictures to Flickr. Until recently it worked flawlessly. I suspect it stopped working at the 1.3 upgrade, but I am not certain. The relevant files are raw. I'm working on a Windows XP machine. Any ideas?

Make sure 'Minimize Embedded Metadata' is not checked on Export.

  • Lightroom 2.3 stops responding with keyword reorg (win 64bit - Vista)

I am trying to re-organise my keywords - making them more heirarchical, and renaming some to keep things tidy. In doing this I'm constantly getting LR2.3 stop responding.
    Some background info:
Now I have a fair few images in my current catalog - 40,000 (approx), which is stored on a dedicated WD raptor drive - which is the fastest drive I have. My CR2 raw files are split between my local disk (images being worked on), and a NAS device (older images). The Catalog is 1.3MB in size.
I would consider the quantity of images in my catalog and my setup to be something resembling that of a standard professional configuration, and I would have hoped that by version 2.3, the Lightroom code would have been better optimised to deal with the handling of large quantity metadata updates. I can only presume that Adobe have a lot more functional design and code optimisation on their to-do list for future revisions of LR - at least I'm desperately hoping so! The problem appears to be this:
In my keyword heirarchy, if I rename a top level keyword to something new, then it has to amend all image records in the database (catalog) - most of the 40,000 in my case, and I appreciate that this takes time to do. What LR doesn't do whilst these updates are taking place, is give any user feedback - it simply seems to stop functioning until it's ready to hand back user control to the operating system. The thing is, as you haven't got a clue what's going on, you just assume that the application has crashed - and for all I know it may have as all I see if I try to interact with lightroom during the hang is my task bar reporting that the application is "(not responding)". Looking at the Resource Monitor in Vista there seems to be a large network load during the time of the hanging - now I can't understand this as LR should simply be updating the records in the catalog which is on a local drive, and not having a need to access my raw files, many of which are on a network drive. If this is the cause of the slow down then it shows that there is a desperate need for revision of the functionality of Metadata updates within LR.
I'm just hoping that Adobe take stock and for future revisions of LR, concentrate on performance issues, and amending of functionality or code structure to better tune the handling of data, rather than just adding more tools and functionality to the release which slows the app even further. I'm just hoping that LR will fulfil my needs at a professional level at some point in the near future as this app is core to the running of my business - and at the moment it's having an impact on my ability to do exactly that!
Anyone else with performance issues like this?
    Thanks, Paul A

This has nothing to do with network access. I have been running the Winessentials Process Monitor app to try to figure out what's going on and I firmly believe this to be an issue with the Lightroom code. Once LR stops responding, the Lightroom process seems to go into an endless loop consuming memory on each iteration (I.e. a memory leak). Process Explorer shows every file handle and (as the directory of images I am displaying holds locally stored images only) none of the file handles are for network based files - all local files. This is what it's using in a nutshell:
The catalog file (2 handles on this)
    The Catalog journal file
the thubnail cache (2 handles on this)
a whole load of internet explorer data files inc: history.ie5\index.dat; cookies\index.dat; Content.ie5\index.dat (no idea why it requires IE data access)
    a couple of truetype fonts
a few temporary files in the user temp folder
    loads of windows device files
access to the C:\Program FilesCommon Files\Adobe\Adobe Version Cue CS4\Client\4.0.1 directory (even though I don't have version cue installed to my knowledge! - certainly no service running for this)
Private Bytes is now sitting at 1.9GB (RAM being used by LR) and its continually on the up.
During the hang, LR is trying to spawn a new thread and Process Explorer is reporting this as "Thread Lightroom.exe (6008): 6040" then moments later <Error Opening Thread>, then it loops, each time more memory is taken up.
Since updating this message the memory usage by LR is now at 2GB!
This has completely stopped responding now!
**UPDATE** After an hour of being non-responsive, LR burst back to life. I just amended one of the keyword tag options again (this tag matches against 21,000 images), removing the 'export with keywords' option, clicked OK and it's stopped responding again!

  • Why is the version file smaller than the original file, although I didn't make changes in the file? And why is the keywords don't exporting with original files?

Hi! Why is the version file smaller than the original file, although I didn't make changes in the file? And why is the keywords don't exporting with original files?

Wild guess: you're using the the wrong export settings. You'll need to tell us more before we can help you - like the export settings you're usng, the size and format of the originals etc.

  • Exporting a large library with keywords

This is a rather particular question but I hope might be able to advise me.
I have about 10000 pictures in my iPhoto library and I would like to be able to export them so that my local schools can search using keywords. They, however, do not have Macs.
I think the solution is to create a web-based searchable library. I know that is beyond the remit of iPhoto so are there other grander products that would allow me to achieve my aim but will accept my iPhoto library (with keywords) as a starting point.
I do not wish to have to re-enter all the keywords etc.
I know that Final cut will accept iMovie files, does Aperture have the same relationship with iPhoto?
Any guidance would be most welcome
    Thanks

There's also a way to use iView MediaPro in Demo mode to write the keywords assigned in iPhoto to the files themselves. Thus any application that you use that reads the IPTC data from the files can use those keywords. Just use Steps 1-7 of Tutorial #1. Shouldn't take very long a all.

  • Export Resized Photos as New Catalog with Keyword Hierarchy

I want a new catalog with small jpgs and the hierarchical keywords. But I seem to be able to get each part of that individually but I can't seem to get them all at the same time.
If I select images and export them with "Write Keywords as Lightroom Hierarchy" checked, then import those new jpgs into a new catalog, my keywords are a flat list without the hierarchy. I tried exporting my keyword hierarchy as *.txt then importing it into an empty catalog so the hierarchy already existed. When I imported the new jpgs into that catalog, the keywords still came in as a flat list appended to the hierarchical keyword list.
I tried selecting the images and importing as a new catalog, which gives me a new catalog, but the new catalog has the original raw images.
    Any suggestions?
Thanks for any help with this.

Thanks, I thought I might be missing something. I had thought of doing what you suggested, but was worried about the potential for messing up my "real" catalog. If this is the only option, I think I'll just live with the flat keyword list for this project.
To answer your question about why I want to do this: I am exporting photos that I'm putting into a ZenPhoto gallery on my website. I'm resizing the images for the web, and I don't want the resized jpgs in my main catalog. The web jpgs will have something in the Rights Usage IPTC data that I don't want in my main catalog, so I wanted the web jpgs in a catalog to change the IPTC data, although I could do that in Bridge.

  • Problem with Keyword Hierarchy Export

    Hello All,
I've noticing an issue with keyword export in Lightroom 4.0 64 bit Mac OS. In 4.0, as compared to 3.6, when I select uncheck the "Include on Export" box of a parent keyword not only is that keyword removed from the exported keywords but all parents keywords above it in the heirarchy. For example if my keyword hierarchy is as follows:
    Animals
         Vertebrates
              Reptiles
                   Turtles
                        Black River Turtle
In Lightroom 3.6 if I was to unckeck the "Include on Export" box of Vertebrates the exported keywords would include:
Animals, Reptiles, Turtles, Black River Turtle
While if I was to do the same the keywords would be:
    Reptiles, Turtles, Black River Turtle
Has anyone else exprianced this problem or does anyone know how to return the export behaviour to that of 3.6.
    Thanks

According to this (See B. Warde's response in the thread) http://feedback.photoshop.com/photoshop_family/topics/keyword_options_no_longer_available_ in_lr4 this was a behavior that was incorrect in 3.6 that has now been fixed.

  • Error message ''Disk Full' when trying to export with CS6, works fine in 5.5

I get an error message when I try to export media in Premiere CS6 that I don't have in CS5.5
I use export media for a AVCHD 60fps sequence with a few photoshop images on top of the main track. In the export settings I choose ''match sequence settings'' which gives me a .mpeg I- frame, 1920 x 1080 P, 60fps, quality 50, and a I tick the ''use maximum render quality'' check box at the bottom.
It used to work fine but now I get a message: Disk Full where there is 1.5 TB free on the disk?
I have the exact same sequence made in Premiere Pro CS 5.5 and it exports fine.
It started to act weird after I used the queue for the first time and it went to the CS6 encoder.
Since I used that once and it gave me that message for the first time, even when I try to do the same thing directly in Premiere CS6 , I always get the same error message.
Question 2, is there a place to change the settings from 50 to 100 for the quality of this export profile?
By the way I can export with other profiles without problems but this setting is the only one that I've seen that lets me keep my 60 frames per second in the export
process. (Example: I can export this sequence in the H.264, 1920 x 1080, 30fps, high quality preset, using the maximum render quality in CS6)

    Hi Guys,
Thanks for the input but if you read my message correctly and until the end I already can export to other settings and I want an answer to this problem. There's no logical explanation to why this suddenly wouldn't work with the same sequence that it used to do fine with and that CS 5.5 handles fine.
As I said earlier this is the only setting that lets me export my sequence with the 60 fps, that I know of, for further and easier manipulation. As my main camera provides me with these 60 fps I'd really like to be able to have them left in that transition phase and, no, I'm not gonna give up until I know, really, what's going on and solve that problem. If this is a bug it needs to be fixed, if not I want to know what's happening.
Also there's no answer to my question 2: Question 2, is there a place to change the settings from 50 to 100 for the quality of this export profile?
So for you experts out there the question is still hanging.

  • How do I stop Illustrator automatically adding numbers to file name when exporting with artboard?

I need to export with artboard. Illustrator automatically adds a number to my original file name. It won't even let me replace the old file. It is extremely annoying and makes flow with other programs really hard because they can't auto update, since the file name  changes. When you have multiple files, you can't be manually renaming all the time. Anyone knows how to fix this? Thanks.

This has been discussed a few times, and here is a summary of the usual solutions.
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/2989508#2989508
What is it EXACTLY you are trying to do. Are you trying to export a single page from filename.ai  and make it filename.psd, (without any number afterwards). In that case you could delete the extra artboards prior to export, and then you won't have to checked use artbaords as there is only one page. Otherwise I would plan ahead so your end result will be filename-01.jpg,  filename-02.jpg, and then everytime you use export artbaords those names will replace.
I am happy with the function as is, and would prefer to have a serial number automatically after the name when checking use artboards. But sounds liek you and others desire more options and thte ability to turn off adding to the filename.

  • HELP! What are the settings to export with the highest quality (I will show my project in a cinema.)

    Hello,
I have a project I will be showing at a local cinema, and I need to have the best possible quality for that......
My source footage is SD, so I am exporting it as a MPEG2-DVD project, the first time I exported (with the default MPEG2-DVD settings) and burned it, it looked good (at least on my 34" TV) but I am not sure if that quality will be as good when projected on a cinema screen...
So, what I need to know is, which of the MPEG2-DVD export settings I must change in order to get the quality I am looking for.....
BTW I am using Adobe Premiere CS4 and the whole Creative Suite 4....
    Thanks in advance
    Al

If it looks good on your tv it will look good at the cinema.
The resolution will still be 720x480/576 if a dvd player is hooked up to the projector.

  • Videos export with purple/green artifacts/splotches/flashes with Media Encoder CC but export fine with Premiere Pro CC?

I use Premiere Pro CC to edit videos, and videos render fine when I export through Premiere Pro, but when I try to use Media Encoder CC, the video exports with weird splotches of green/purple artifacts all throughout. It almost looks like the video is glitching and having a seizure of green and purple. No idea why this happens. Could anybody help me? I use Media Encoder to export bulks of videos at a time through its queue feature, which is why I prefer to use Media Encoder for video exporting.
    Please and thanks.

    Mitch,
I was hoping that you and others might have some insight as to whether the purple and green artifacts / splotches seen in the attached screenshots (taken from 4 consecutive frames here but occurring through the entirety of the clip) could possibly have resulted from exporting video with ~ Premiere Pro CS5 or 6 ? As seen below, these splotches alternate back and forth between purple and green in every consecutive frame. I was also hoping that someone might know if this is a relatively common type of artifact and how it is caused.

Two single quotes(not double quotes) in the place of one single quote for CLERK.

  • Problems with keywords assignment (hierarchy is included)

    Hi group,
this probably happens after I was letting Lightroom to a catalog optimization, but I am not quiet sure about this.
So what happens: As you know, you can create a keyword tag hierarchy and sometimes LR does this automatically.
If I now do some keyword assignments in the library mode (right panel), then these keywords get replaced by a hierarchy-to-keyword string.
E.g. if I enter a keyword 'female' and LR has a hierarchy for this (e.g. female and male are sup-levels of person), then the keyword tag entry area contains the following: person > female. If e.g. I assign both male and female e to an image, then I get as result: person > female, person > male.
This blows up the list and does not make it very readable.
Does anybody knows how to stop LR doing this? If haven't found any flag value in the options.
    Thanks in advance
    John

John, I think this is just part of the poor design of the key-wording feature.  There are many oddities.  I got my initial keyword list from D65.  I found that when I use the "Enter Keywords" view of the keywords assigned to a particular image, many of them show the hierarchy they are part of, as if I had selected the "Keyword & Containing Keywords" option, but some do not.  Adobe told D65 that this is related to how you create the hierarchical entries.  If you create a keyword and use the "Create keyword tag inside XXXXX" option, in use it will act differently than if you drag-and-drop a keyword into an hierarchical relationship.  This is completely at odds with proper programming practice!  I have also found today (in LR4, by the way) that if I sync from an image with keywords to an image without keywords immediately to its left, I get duplications of keywords in the rightmost image, as if the rightmost image had updated the left one, and it had reflected the sync back to the originating image. This does not happen if I sync from the leftmost image to the rightmost one.  So I went into the keyword list and unchecked that keyword for the image that had the duplication.  Now I have the keyword just once, but there's no check beside it in the keyword list showing that it is being used.  I'm also getting duplicates of nested keywords popping up at the top level of the hierarchy.  I've just realized that this has been happening for some time. The whole keyword feature is a mess.  Adobe needs to:
    1. fix the keyword feature so that it works in a simple, consistent and predictable manner
    2. provide users with a documentation update to explain how it now works
    3. provide a cleanup utility of some sort (if necessary) to let us get our keywords rationalized
Perhaps step 0. should be "stop ignoring and/or denying the keyword problem".
I've just gotten into such a mess with my latest batch of imported photos that I'm going to have to delete all assigned keywords, including those added on import, and start again.  I am not amused.

Problems such as yours are sometimes caused by files that should belong to you but are locked or have wrong permissions. This procedure will check for such files. It makes no changes and therefore will not, in itself, solve your problem.
