Exporting XDCAM 422 HD 1080i

I am having trouble with exporting this setting. Fast moving images are ghosty  in places. ie moving hands.
I an exporting it as H.246
HD 1080i 25
And I set to "Match Source"
and I use Render at Maximum Depth and use Maximum Render quality.
Am i using the correct settings?
ps I don't think any shutter was used on the day so could this be the reason?
Kind Regards
Dean Whiston

I have taken footage in HD 1080i. Presently I need to make a movie in DVD format using my HD footage, but I would like to assemble my footage in HD so that if in the future I want to upgrade it won't be a problem. So can I make my movie in HD1080i and export it to DVD format? If so, how? Or if I make it in DVD format is there an easy way to upgrade my movie to HD in the future?

  • AME and Calibrated XDCAM to Export XDCAM QTs?

    Hi all,
I am workign on a PC with Adobe Production Premium CS6 suite.
I have recently installed and registered my license for the Calibrated codec suite for PC, including the XDCAM application.  I have a client working on Mac that would like their weekly product delivered in a 720p Quicktime with XDCAMEX codec.   The Calibrated software was purchased for integration wtih CatDV, but I was hoping it would solve our client's issue as well.
    http://forums.creativecow.net/thread/351/223
    http://www.calibratedsoftware.com/ProductInfoAdobe.asp
However, based on the links above, it appears that PC's are incapable of exporting the QT file with XDCAMEX codec and only decode.  Is this correct?
I know I can product XDCAMEX MXF files, but can't get hte Quicktime wrapper out of AME.
Perhaps someone can suggest a close alternative to a file exported to QT with XDCAMEX 720p60?  They client isn't interested in an H264 file.
    Thanks!
    Lindsay

Very strange that they want it in the Quicktime container. The only thing I can think of that you might be able to do is to use the MXF option in Premiere, then from there use FFMBC to rewrap the files into the Quicktime container. I know for the hyperdeck studio I used to be able to take the .mxf (DnxHD) files and wrap them into the .mov container ysubg ffmbc. According to their site it can do what you want it to do so I think it's worth a shot. If you're not sure about working with a CMD prompt though you might want to download a GUI that works with ffmpeg since if it works with ffmpeg it will work with ffmbc.  It says right on the front page it can do the task you need so I'd at least try it.

Also here is a link to the page where they show you the command line for encoding to xdcam 422 in the .mov container. If you do it this way you could export to a uncompressed or another lossless format and then use ffmbc to encode it to xdcam in the Quicktime container if you wanted.

    Bonjour,

  • Strobing when exporting quicktime movie in 1080i 60

I have a piece that is intended for television broadcast.
The timeline of the piece is set to 1080p 30 and it includes footage that is both 1080p 30 and 1080i 60.
I need the quicktime to be exported as HD 1080i 60.
When I export the piece using compressor and using the settings for HD 1080i 60 the piece looks strobed when viewed on a television monitor.
Is there a way I can fix this in final cut pro?
    Thanks for all the help.

If you haven't done so, check your field order. also if this is going to broadcast make sure your frame rate and size are correct for that station. Some are 720P as in 1280 x 720P which is the ATSC requirement for broadcast of HD footage. There are some stations who are using illegal standards like 1920 x 1080i but most 1080i broadcasts are 1440 x 1080i This according to the ATSC the governing body that supersedes the NTSC is illegal. But it's still the wild west out there and there are some ******* matches going on that we, as TV producers are still subject to if we all wish to work. This; the ATSC ruling is the reason for the setup on the JVC 200/250 cameras. They are equipped to go directly to broadcast in the event of live coverage. But I digress. Check your 1080P footage and be assured it is 1080P and not 1080i. If so, you may have a case of reversed field order. Unlike SD and DV which use a lower field first, HD uses an Upper field first and if it is reversed on either of the clips compared to the timeline settings, this will cause flickering. In addition check that all your footage is DF or NDF. Last but not least depending on what your acquisition source is, it may have a frame rate of 29.97, 30, 59.94, or 60. With any of these not being correct in comparison to any other you could be in for a world of hurt. Again check with your station that is broadcasting the program for specs and don't forget...anything that gets broadcast must be closed captioned.
P.S. Don't forget that broadcast audio must use the AC3 audio codec.
    Have fun!

  • "Cloudy" Footage when Exporting ProRes 422 Timeline

    Hello everyone,
I'm having a problem when exporting a "QuickTime Movie" from FCP6 with a ProRes 422 sequence. The exported footage is very "cloudy" and washed out. When I export to an .mp4 from FCP6 as a QuickTime Conversion, it's not as bad, but the contrast is still way too bright. I'm at a loss as to why this is happening. Any ideas?? Thanks in advance!!!

I too use a Canon mark II and post at cinema5D.com all the time. You might find some helpful resources there for shooting and handling the footage from that camera. I suggest this because you said the Sony HDV camera looks OK compared to the 5D footage. My 5D footage beats all my HDV cameras in highlight detail so this is suspicious.
The 5D is a challenging (and rewarding) camera but the exposure system is hard to manage. It is possible your footage was over exposed in-camera. If not, you can try running the footage through Apple Color and check the video scopes. Areas around the faces should be around 55 to 65 IRE in the Waveform monitor. Your display might need to be calibrated. This would explain the difference between the computer monitor and the TV output. It is also possible you have not updated Quicktime. There was a big update to QuickTime which fixed the way the Canon h264 files are interpreted and this fixed most issues like the ones you are describing.
Your camera also should have the latest firmware update from Canon which added manual controls in the M mode. Without this, the camera is constantly changing its exposure during the clip and will tend to blow out highlight details easily if there is a predominance of dark colors in the scene.
Also, you can try enabling highlight tone priority on the camera, which is sort of like a Black Stretch mode on some camcorders which adds a stop of highlight detail.
Regardless, the fact that it looks the same in all mediums except your computer monitor suggests the problem is a poorly calibrated monitor. I'll bet your footage is not properly exposed, but for some reason it appears to be this way on a dimly set monitor. Forgive me if I've over simplified the problem.
One last test you can do is change your compression settings to Animation and render just a few frames. Don't do too many, because the file will be huge. Animation doesn't use any color management (this is called absolute colormetrics) wherein the ProRes and h264 CODEC's are relative colormetric. If the footage still looks wrong in animation compression, you can eliminate the gamma shift/color management from your list of culprits. Hope that helps you figure this out.

  • Export to Quicktime HD 1080i fails from timeline in Premiere Pro CC

I have AVCHD files in my timeline and need to export Quicktime HD 1080i for a client.  From the export settings, I choose Quicktime with the preset for HD 1080i and click on OK.  The dialog box export with the progression bar just hangs there.  Eventually, I force close Premiere Pro and Premiere Pro will not start again until I restart the computer.  What gives?

Here is more information: I use Premiere PRo CC 7 and the taped based media in the bins are from a Canon HV30 taped based catured to PP directly in a MPEG format. I have already used some edits from this media as well as my captures from digital, which isnt causing any problems. When I mark the taped based media in the source window and attempt to drag it into the timeline the hand gets a circle and slash line on it and will not let me place it into the timeline. Yet I can still load my digital stuff into the timeline and edit normally. I need some footaghe from the tapes but cannot get it into the timeline from the source monitor even after updating, shutting down and reopening. No avail still when trying to drag the hand with the circle slash still exist not allowing it into the timeline. Previous footage on the timeline works no problem. This started yesterday.

  • Peremiere Pro CC import issue while importing XDCAM 422 50 MXF file

Hi I also posted into the german board, but got no reply - so now I'm gonna try it in the international board too:
I want to import XDCAM HD 422 50 footage into Adobe Premiere Pro CC. It's the current version. The footage was recorded with a Sony PDW 700. I copied the data directly from the disc to my HDD and kept the directory structure alive. I tried several plugins and also found just one: Calibrated{Q} MXF Import Overview to make it work. But in trial it's just possible to edit 750frames on each clip. So I'm very limited with that. I don't want to upgrade to full version and pay hundreds of $ for this. I guess Premiere should work with this format natively - I mean, it's a really common format!
Btw: I'm driving Premiere on a MBP 15" Retina with OsX 10.10.1 and the Error message is something like "file format not supported or damaged file". I have no issues while encoding the files to ProRes 422 - so I guess they're not damaged. But the encoding 3rd party tools also costs additional money.
Did one of you ever had problems like this?
I'm looking forward to hear from you guys.
Thanks in advance and all the best,
    Kalle

Your sequence settings will have no effect on PP's ability to actually import the footage.  Something else is going on.

  • Exporting XDCAM from Premiere CC2014 to SxS Card

    Hi There,
I am Running Adobe Premiere CC 2014 with My Sony PMW-500
Occasionally I need to master my edit to an SXS card.
I export an MXF OP1a from the time line with the settings relevant to my camera.
I then open Content browser and select the SxS card.
I then Select import and then select the newly created MXF stream.
All this writes perfectly but unfortunately it creates a ‘XDCAM ROOT’ file system which my PMW 500 can’t read.
Ive looked in all the preferences of content browser but can’t see anything that will give me anything different.
Do i need to firmware update my PMW 500 so it can read XDCAM ROOT folders?
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Kind Regards,
    Verdy

Hmm- wouldn't it make much more sense to get a proper video I/O device for your Mac and send finished projects out direct from FCP X that way? Basically you're using your camera for that now and losing a ton of time & quality for not much gain. Check out the T-Tap from AJA: does precisely what you most likely need and is super cheap:

  • Export XDCam Project with Mainconcept Mpeg ProHD 3

Hi, I'm working in a project where all the material was recorded in XDCam Ex HQ (1920x1080 50i 35vbr)
And when i'm editing all is nice but when i want to export my sequence to an mp4 (xdcam format) using the mainconcept plugin strange things happens
For example if a use a video effect like a video scale in the preview is all ok, but when i export to an mp4 the effect begin before and add a little zoom between frames (before and after the video effect).
I think is something with the long gop, but i'don know.
And i have another problem when i try to export to mp4 (xdcam format) sometimes i can export and sometimes i can't.
When i'cant i have to reboot my computer and maybe after that i can export the sequence.
    Someone have any idea.
    thanks a lot.

    Welcome to the forum.
Which version of PrPro are you using, please?
    Good luck,

  • Export XDCAM clips into Final Cut

I'm working on a project where all clips were supplied in XDCAM format. I exported using XDCAM EX clip browser so that now they are in a program called XDCAM transfer with an mxf extension. Now I need to get them into Final Cut(7) but can't figure out how. Can anyone help .
    Jeff

In Final Cut Pro, choose File > Import > Sony XDCAM...
That will cause the XDCAM Transfer app to open with hooks into your FCP project. Use XDCAM Transfer to log your selects and press the Import button at lower right. The clips will be imported to the Import Location and appear in your project's Browser window in FCP.
Note that the Import Location for clips ingested through XDCAM Transfer is not linked to the Capture Scratch location you choose in FCP's System Settings. XDCAM Transfer has its own set of application preferences, so you'll want to select an appropriate import location by switching to tehe XDCAM Transfer application and choosing Preferences from the application menu ... the location is set under the Import tab of that Preferences window.
In future, if you prefer, you can bring the XDCAM EX footage in directly from the original media / folder structure using FCP's own Log and Transfer interface, you just need to install the free Log and Transfer plugin available from Sony's website. Note that this does not work with XDCAM HD / MXF wrapped media, only XDCAM EX / MP4 media.
    Cheers

  • Best Compression for Exporting XDCAM EX 1080p30

I have a 6 minute timeline of XDCAM EX 1080p30 footage, and I have a couple questions as to the best method(s) for exporting:
    1. Assuming I can play the HD version using a computer and projector, I plan to export using QuickTime Conversion. Ok so far? If so, would you suggest that I select the XDCAM EX 1080p30 compression option, or some other codec? (File size is probably not an issue because the piece is so short, so I'm not as tempted to use H.264 as I otherwise might be).
    2. Assuming I need to burn an SD DVD, I plan to send to Compressor and use the Best Quality DVD setting there, without modification. Sound good?
Any other advice or suggestions welcome. Thanks!

You could try ProRes and get the person with the other computer to download the decoder needed to play with QT.

  • Exporting XDCAM EX 1080i60 to another format = dark picture

Material was shot in XDCAM EX 1080i60. I noticed when I made screen caps for the client as .tifs that the image was much darker than my original footage. I tried to then export video clips, I tried exporting Pro Res HQ with and without gamma adjustment and tried exporting it out as it's native codec XDCAM EX,...all resulted in crunched blacks. I will need to convert this at some pint in the future and need to know how best to do it and maintain it's luminance.

Try exporting as quicktime movie with current settings, see what it looks like.

  • AME stalling exporting XDCAM EX project

    Hello
I am working, for the 1st time on a project shot on the EX3 camera, with MP4 files shot in XDCAM EX SP mode (25mbps)
I am editing with Premiere Pro CS4
For some reason, the edit is ok, but when I try to export with AME, the exporting starts and stalls halfway through.  The preview window sticks on the image and encoding stops, all the "remaining time" and "elapsed time" readouts stop and the encoder just sits there.  If I leave it for long enough, the export stops and the error reading says simple "error exporting movie" and nothing else is given.
I have tried putting the footage and projects onto a new harddrive and also tried it on 2 PC's, and it is the same problem!
I have never had this issue before cutting DV or HDV, and this is my first time editing XDCAM footage in an XDCAM project.
Is this a problem with this kind of footage in CS4?
I need to export these videos by Monday so am desperate!

Have you tried it in CS5.5?  You can download a 30 day fully functional trial vesion of Premiere Pro CS5.5.

It at least tells if this is something that may have been resolved in the latest build or not.

  • Can FCPX export XDCAM files?

Basically I want to bring in files that are XDCAM, and I want to spit out XDCAM files as a finished product.  I don't need to export to XDCAM discs, but I need XDCAM QT files.  So far I just get ProRes, which is a lovely codec, but won't work in the world I live in.

Wait a seond, you have XDCAM export otpions in FCP.
