Expose "All Windows" reveals an odd image

Sometimes - not often - when I hit F9 to activate Expose's "All Windows" command, I get a window that I don't recognize. It shows two blue arrows, one above the other. The one on top points left, the one on the bottom points right. Each has a curved tail. This window is not obviously associated with any program that I can tell. Right clicking on it reveals nothing. Left-clicking on it closes it.
Anyone have any idea what it is or how I can figure it out?
Thanks in advance.

Don't know for sure, but the only thing that comes to mind is that your desktop pattern or picture is over something else, and as you hit F9 the top layer reveals the lower level.
So the question is.. what's your desktop picture/pattern? If it's a picture you've made or created, it might could be just small enough to not fill up the desktop but large enough to look like it does, and under certain circumstances, moves out of the way to reveal what's underneath.
And, of course, I could be totally wrong

  • Stuck after setting Mouse to Expose all windows

I stupidly set my mouse button to Expose all windows. Now everytime I click it, it either exposes all windows or goes back to one of them. It does not allow me to click anything else, so I am stuck. Who can help?

    Found the problem...
I use an application called SteerMouse. In this app, the set up for my mouse's side buttons was still directed to where it had been for Leopard (Applications/Expose.app). I just had to re-direct SteerMouse to the location of expose in SL; Applications/Utilities/Expose.app

  • Expose All Windows Closes Imeditately Upon Initiation

Clicking a mouse button or pressing a key to initiate the All Windows feature of Expose causes the animation to start, screen to grey out then immediately it goes back to the desktop as if the button or key was pressed again.
This only seems to happen when more than a handful of windows are open. I've opened 20 or so windows split between minimized and maximized and the issue happens (may seem excessive but it's not only necessary for how I work but this situation is where such a feature really shines).
Closing several windows makes it work again. On rare occasions it will work even with a lot of windows open but for the most part it doesn't.
I've tried changing the keys/buttons associated with expose and it still happens. All other expose features function properly.

  • Expose "all windows" Annoying problem

I spent an hour and could not find another post on this problem. I am running the latest version of tiger and I have an imac g5 pre intel. I love expose and have a different command in all four corners. My problem is that the "all windows" feature continues to pop up when I don't ask for it. It usually happens when I have a few things going on but it should not happen unless I put my mouse in the corner that I specify. I am not even coming close to that corner and it just pops up all of the time and is probably one of the most annoying things I have encountered on a computer. Once it gets started it seems to pick up steam and do it even more. If anybody has some advice I would really appreciate it.
    Thanks

I had this problem right after I bought this machine. Apple replaced the mouse - same thing. It seemed to be fixed for a while - by a system update?, but has recently reoccured. Unplugging and reconnecting the mouse USB from the keyboard will work for a while. So will disabling the expose option in the mouse preferences but, no expose, it doesn't fix the bug. In my case it seems to happen at the end of the day after the computer has been running for hours(?).
This appears to me to be a software problem that Apple has yet to address.

  • Missing Feature in Lion: Expose for all Windows

    Hello!
I've written a feedback to apple, that says it all:
    =================================================
Since Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion) there was one Feature removed,
which was a very important time saver for me:
    Expose for all Windows
I'm missing this feature very much. In Mission Control you only see one window completly of every app, the other window are hidden behind. You can't entirely see, what is in that windows behind. There isn't a text Info when you float the mouse pointer over the window.
In Mac OS X 10.6. (Snow Leopard) I loved this time saving feature. I would be so happy and grateful, if this feature were to resurface in Mac OS X 10.8. (Mountain Lion).
Please let "Expose all Windows" return! :-)
    =================================================
What do you think about it? Should / Could Expose return in the next Mac OS X? (I hope so)
    Greetings from Germany,
    Matthias B.

    Hello Rysz and Captfred!
    Rysz:
I already have send this to Apple feedback.
    Captfred:
    There are two problems:
    1. I want to see all windows of all applications at once.
    2. Even the windows seperate a little bit, there are (even with only three Windows) most parts of the windows hidden because of the front window shown.

  • Ibooke freezes when minimizing or using expose to show all windows

I have a bought a refurbished ibook from the mac refurb site 2 weeks ago, no other hardware, and have only installed office 2004.
It freezes often when several windows are open and i use expose to show all windows (approx 1 time in 2), and also when i minimise a window if a few apps are open. (approx 1 time in 3 or 4)
When frozen it just hangs & shows rotating disk & only way out is to restart using power button.
I Have tried hardware tests & disk utility etc...
Any other suggestions? or anyone else having a similar problem?
Would prefer to resolve myself as opposed to sending back on guarantee as I need it daily..
    THANKS

    furthermore..
    i have spent so much time trying to sort this out over the past week that my girlfriend has given me an ultamatum;
either the computer goes... or she goes...
has anyone else discovered that buying an ibook has had such a dramatic effect on thier relationship? and has anyone got any suggestions how to resolve this?
i think the computer has to go back to apple... unless someone comes up with a fast fix.......

  • Expose puts all windows on one screen?

SHORT VERSION: When I have my MBP hooked up to a 2nd monitor, sometime when I invoke the "all windows" mode in Exposé, it puts all the windows one one screen (usually the larger second screen) -- meanwhile if there are any minimized windows, it will "stack" them on the second screen at full size.
    * This doesn't happen all the time. And I haven't quite figured out what conditions "cause" it.
    * If I restart, the problem goes away.
    * Mousing over a window only works correctly on the second screen (trying to hover over a window on the screen with the "minimized" windows -- those don't respond)
    Thoughts?
    -r

You should fit 16 spaces of apps/folder icons per page. So, from your post, what is happening is that on page 1 you have 3 rows of 4 apps each then 1 row of 2 apps. On page 2 you have 1 app.
You can easily fix this via iTunes. Connect your iPod Touch to iTunes and to the following:
    1. Touch and hold the app icon that you want to move (In this case it would be your sole icon on page2)
    2. This will put you in edit mode for apps while they will all begin to shake
    3. Grap the app with your finger and move it to the left edge of the screen
    4. This will move it to page 1 and then you can place it wherever you want
Now you will all 15 apps on page 1.

  • Windows 8.1 System Image Backup issues

    All,
    Running a Satellite P50-S PSPMHC-01M00P with Windows 8.1.
When attempting to create a System Image Backup in Control Panel > System and Security > File History, using a target of \\hostname\share\dir (using an NetBIOS /TCP/IP session with an account that has read/write privileges). A dialog box says
"There is not enough disk space to create the volume shadow copy on the storage location. Make sure that, for all volumes to be backup up, the minimum disk space for shadow copy creation is available. This applies to both the backup storage destination and volumes included in the backup. Minimum requirement: For volumes less than 500 megabytes, the minimum is 50 megabytes of free space. For volumes more than 500 megabytes, the minimum is 320 megabytes of free space. Recommended: At least 1 gigabyte of free space on each volume if volume size is more than 1 gigabyte. (0x80780119)"
The target is a device to which I am able to connect over \\hostname\share\dir with read/write privileges. I am able to read and write files from that network share using the file history feature as well as manually add/delete files. My C:\ volume has 857GB of 917GB total free.
A browse around reveals that I should resize the volumes to give space to each volume, but I want to save the images from bare metal before doing anything (actually wanting to go to Win7 maybe since 8.1 pretty much stinks). That includes resizing partitions... is there a way to stage this to the local filesystem first without having to write to all the local volumes? Or buy more software which you would think would already be with the device?

  • Getting Spotlight "Show All" window to only show emails

In Spotlight's "Show All" window (the same one you get when you Command-F from the Finder) there's a way to select what kind of things you want to see. However, for some reason the "Kind" list doesn't include "Mail Messages". It has "Applications", "Documents", "Folders", etc. but nothing to find emails. I notice that if I choose kind "Other" and type "Mail" in the box, I do see email messages, but it's odd that emails aren't in the list. Anybody know if it's possible to modify the set of things that shows up in the "Kind" list so I can find emails more easily?

Weird. My "Kind" list is Any, Applications, Documents, Folders, Images, Movies, Music, PDF, Presentations, Text, Other.
I tried enabling and disabling various kinds in the Spotlight preferences pane. Although that changed the set of results (as you'd expect) it had no effect on the set of items shown in the "Kind" list.
    Wonder what's happening here?

  • Where to find "Windows Mobile 6 Professional Images"?

    Hi All,
I do have a problem where the sun_jcw won't start on my iPAQ/HP 214 device running Windows Mobile 6.0 2007 because the executable is not signed with a trusted certificate.
I think I found almost the answer where Terrance states in http://weblogs.java.net/blog/terrencebarr/archive/2009/07/just_released_j.html the following:

Took me a while to figure out
Submitted by fatbuttlarry on Thu, 2010-01-14 21:47.
For those using the Windows Mobile 6 emulator and are receiving the message:
"The file 'JavaFX' can not be opened. Either it is not signed with a trusted certificate, or one of its components can not be found. You migth need to reinstall or restore the file" Make sure you are using the Windows Mobile 6 Professional Images. The Windows Mobile 6 Classic image would cause this error every time!!!! -Tres

What does he mean with "Windows Mobile 6 Professional Images" exactly?

I have a Mac OS X 10.5.8 Leopard and just partitioned my disk to download Windows with Boot Camp. I found the student discount for Windows 7 Professional Upgrade on Digital River but since it's a Digital download it won't work with the Mac because of the .exe file. Everyone who has installed Windows, did you pay full price for a new disk? Is there a way to get a disk without paying extra? And Windows 7 64-bit works with Boot Camp 2.0 on a Mac OS X 10.5 right? Just curious because I don't want to spend a lot of money only to find out something doesn't work
You can probably get Windows 7 to work with Boot Camp 2.0, but it is definitely not supported. I don't believe that Windows 7 was officially supported until Boot Camp 3.
As for your 64-bit windows, that would depend upon the age of your Mac. I seem to recall that with some of the older MacBook Pros, 64-Bit windows is not supported, and doesn't work for many who have tried.
Perhaps if you could give us a little more detail about your Mac, we could tell you what your odds are in getting it all to work together.

  • How to get names of all Windows in a Form Application at runtime

    Dear All,
I want to get the name of all windows in a form module programatically at run time. How to get it?
Any help or comments will be highly appreciated.
    Thanks in Advance.
    Best Regards
    Bilal

    Hi Francois Degrelle,
First of all thanks for the response.
What if I have no items on a content canvas? In my application, I am using content canvas to hold the Image banner and help text of the current form, having no items at all. I am also using tab canvases to hold all items of form. The tabs are displayed on the content canvas at run time. So the tab canvases acts like frames (In my case).
Now if I am looping through items, it gives me the list of all of the tab canvases. Whereas the tab canvas always has no window assigned, as it is displayed on content canvas which has that Window which I need. Thus I am unable to get the names of windows in my case through the above stated procedure.
Another option could be if I can get the name of the content canvas upon which the given tab canvas is displayed?
Any way to do this or some other way to achieve the use case?
Any help will be highly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance

  • Administrator account is disable when deploying windows 7 x64 captured image

I’m using MDT 2012 update 1. I create one deployment share with two task sequence.
The task sequences are: one for windows 7 x86 and the other one is windows 7 x64.
Both are working fine until I try to sysprep and capture with all the windows updates.
Sysprep and capture windows 7 x86 with all windows update work fine. I’m able to deploy the captured image without an error.
My problem is with the windows 7 x64 captured image. I’m able to sysprep and capture the windows7 x64 with all the windows update. Once the capture is completed, I change the .win file in my windows 7 x64 task sequence to point to the new .win file (capture
image with all the windows update). When I deploy windows 7 x64 on a pc, the OS get install but boot up to the sign on screen. The Task sequence does not complete. No error message. Cannot log in as local or domain administrator, account is disable.
Why does it work with my windows 7 x86 image and not with my windows 7 x64 image?
With my windows 7 x86 image the task sequence completed successfully with no error and it logon automatically in windows but not with my windows 7 x64 image.
Both task sequences are the same.
Let me know if any info for this please.
    thanks

They should both work, perhaps you missed a step when creating the x64 image.
    1. Verify that the Windows 7 x64 image was created cleanly, with no errors. Sysprep ran with no errors.
    2. Verify that you created the windows 7 deployment task sequence cleanly. I would do a windiff of the TS.xml and unattend.xml file from both folders in the deployment share.
    3. Try running without a domain. Some domain's have a GP set to disable the local administrator account.

  • Recovery Image vs windows 8.1 retail image

I am looking for a recommendation on how I should reinstall the OS for my HP Laptop.
When I got it, I burned the recovery image over 6 dvd's.  I also bought from HP the recovery disks for the laptop.  The problem is when you recover the image it can take a couple of hours to download the image from the dvd's and setup all the software.  Then it takes a another few hours to download all the updates for the OS, Cyberlink software and drivers from hp.  I know this because I have previously had to do that because of a virus and I had to zero format the hard drive to remove everything.
I have since discovered that I can use a Microsoft 8.1 disk (the pro will not work and you actually receive an error due to the way the bios offers the key code) and reinstall the OS directly and eliminate all the bloatware the recovery image has.   This is actually a little faster since 8.1 is installed instead of 8.0.
I happen to like the Cyberlink software , so I bought serveral titles for use from an upgrade price.  But I did not buy all the cyberlink software as I do not use all of it.  What I didn't buy I can reinstall from the HP website.  Except for a package that edits video from cyberlink that is included in the recovery image, but cannot be downloaded and installed without the recovery image being used.  But again, that is software I do not use.
I use the laptop primarily for gaming - World of Warcraft, Eve Online, and Steam.  I also do some automation using HP UFT.
I also have a Pro license Key and Media Pack key to upgrade from 8.1 version of Windows.
So based on my usage, which would be better?  The recovery image or the windows 8.1 image?  Will I miss any specialized hp software that can protect the laptop?
If you want to tell me to use Linux, I have a distro that will be installed along side it for use when I need that particular OS and the laptop will be used as a dual-boot machine.

I can't use the One Key Recovery of my Y2P anymore, as I decreased the size of the C partition in favour of increasing D:\Data

  • How do I restore a Windows 8.1 system image if I upgraded from Windows 8?

I have a new HP Envy TouchSmart 15 Notebook PC 15-j003cl.
It came with Windows 8 which I upgraded to Windows 8.1.
I created the HP Recovery USB flash drive.
From my reading I understand that the recovery USB flash drive is Windows 8 not 8.1.
    My question is:
Can I restore a Windows 8.1 System Image Backup I made on a USB hard drive using the Windows 8 recovery USB flash drive?
Or, to put it another way, what is the recommended procedure to back up an upgraded Windows 8.1 computer so, in the event of hard-drive failure, I don't have to start with Windows 8, upgraded to 8.1, re-install all my apps?
    Thanks
    Kirk

OK here's where I am now and a few followup questions,
    Started with Windows 8.
Upgraded from Windows Store to Windows 8.1
Installed lots of apps and got everything running the way I like.
I created a full system image of my upgraded 8.1 hard drive to an external USB hard drive.
I have successfully created a recovery boot USB flash.  (did not copy recovery partition) I can restart the computer from
it and navigate up to the point where it will restore my system image made after I upgraded to 8.1.  (I don't want to risk
trying it for fear it will mess up my computer)
Assume my hard drive failed and I have a new blank hard drive:
My question is at this point does it matter that this was originally a windows 8 (not 8.1) computer?
Will I be able to restore the image of 8.1?
Does it matter which version of Windows I created the recovery boot USB flash on?  ( I can't tell when it boots from the
recovery USB flash if it is running Windows 8 or Windows 8.1.
I wish there was a way to test this without risking losing all the work I have done to configure the computer??
    Thanks,
    Kirk
