Expose being laggy

I've been noticing a lag when I open the expose. There isnt a smooth animation anymore. There is a lag even when I hold Shift and press the expose button. It is almost like a frame by frame process. The graphics are fine with other porgrams, its just the expose that has been lagging. I have tried resetting the SMC and PRAM and it hasnt fixed it. If anyone has been experiencing this problem and has found a solutoin, please let me know.

I got this problem too(plus screen zoom, another animation). Can you tell me what the story before you figure out this laggy. I'm finding the solution to fix this too.

How can I disable Expose?

Pardon my ignorance but I'm new to the Mac world. I want to use the keyboard shortcut <Shift+F3> in my text editing software to toggle the ChangeCase command but this combination seems to have a life of its own - it activates Expose even though I have disabled Expose in the System Preferences.
In the Expose Preferences, I tried two different tactics - first I left the activation keys blank (with the hyphen) but this failed to stop <shift+f3> from activating Expose. So then I tried assigning other keyboard shortcut keys to Expose in the Preferences. Still no joy - <shift+F3> still activates Expose. Where is this association between <shift+F3> and Expose being made if not in the Preference pane?
I have gone through the entire list of Keyboard shortcuts which is listed in the Keyboard Preferences, and have eliminated F3 wherever it was being used by as a shortcut for another application. But to no avail! It is like <shift+F3> is hardwired to activate Expose. I really don't want Expose at all - I could uninstall it for all I care. How can I control <shift+F3> and assign it the action I want? Just going to the System Preference Panes is not working for me.
I do a lot of text editing, and I have become habituated to using the <shift+f3> function for changing case. Both of my text editing programs use <Shift+F3> for the ChangeCase command. It's driving me crazy that I can't make it stop activating Expose. What am I missing here?

Yes, you are right - the keyboard has a picture of Expose on F3, so I guess it is indeed hardwired. I tried your suggestion of selecting the "use Fkeys as standard keys" option in the keyboard preferences - this works with Microsoft Word but not with Open Office text documents. But I am happy, now at least I have one program that works like it is supposed to! Incidentally, there are two sequences which are hardwired into the Apple USB extended keyboard F3 key - a slow Expose and a fast Expose. With the Preferences set to "use Fkeys as standard keys" as you suggested, the slow Expose is hardwired to <FNshiftF3> and the quick Expose is hardwired to <FN+F3>. but now they don't bother me. thanks for the quick and helpful reply! Why is my macbook so laggy all of a sudden?

It started close to a week ago. It will work normally for like an hour or so, then it randomly starts lagging. Every time I try to click something, the beach ball of death appears for 30 or so seconds, everything that I have open just STOPS working and stops responding. This will happen for maybe 15-30 minutes, then it will return to normal, then it'll go back to being laggy.
- I haven't used more than 1/4 of the hardrive space, so its not short on space.
- I've used disk utlity, and the SMART status said Verified, so my hardrive seems to be OK.
- I've used repair disk permissions from Disk Utlity, an everything came out fine.
- I've cleaned out all my caches with CCleaner, it took out 9gb of ****. This helped for like 15 minutes, then it went back to being really ******* laggy.
This has been ******* me off to the point in which I don't use my laptop because I can barely do anything for more than 30 minutes without it lagging. .
I/m thinking of just reinstalling Mountain Lion. My qquestion with that is, if I partition my external hardrive between my backup data files and the new OSX, will I lose my files from the other partition when I reinstall mountain lion? Will it wipe the whole external hardrive?
What do you think is wrong with my mac? What other ways could I try and fix the problem?
My macbook is a late 2011 15 inch pro. I bought it in September 2012 at my school, fresh in the box, no reburishing.

First, back up all data immediately, as your boot drive might be failing.
There are a few other possible causes of generalized slow performance that you can rule out easily.
Reset the System Management Controller.
If you have many image or video files on the Desktop with preview icons, move them to another folder.
If applicable, uncheck all boxes in the iCloud preference pane.
Disconnect all non-essential wired peripherals and remove aftermarket expansion cards, if any.
Check your keychains in Keychain Access for excessively duplicated items.
Otherwise, take the steps below when you notice the slowdown.
Step 1
Launch the Activity Monitor application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Activity Monitor in the icon grid.
Select the CPU tab of the Activity Monitor window.
Select All Processes from the menu in the toolbar, if not already selected.
Click the heading of the % CPU column in the process table to sort the entries by CPU usage. You may have to click it twice to get the highest value at the top. What is it, and what is the process? Also post the values for % User, % System, and % Idle at the bottom of the window.

Select the 50 or so most recent entries in the log. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V). You're looking for entries at the end of the log, not at the beginning.

Expose is quite choppy...

Overall I'm seeing a nice performance improvement in SL. I've been running it since the tuesday following its release.
I have, however, had a consistent problem with expose being very choppy. Sometimes I won't even see an animation at all for show desktop, all windows, or spaces. It'll just pause for a sec and then snap to the other view. This happens whether I'm using the 9600 or the 9400 vid adapters. This is basically a brand new Macbook pro. It's the highest-end 15" that money could buy two months ago...
The performance in GAMING (WoW, Eve Online) is noticeably improved over leopard, but for some reason this single graphical problem persists.
Does anyone have a clue why this might be happening?

I think it's solved now, though I'm not specifically sure what fixed it.
Per advice in an old thread, I removed /System/Library/StartupDaemons/com.apple.audio.coreaudio.plist
Just about that time, I got a System Update notification from Apple saying that there was a "Performance Improvement" fix for the HDD stalling issue (which I've also had non-stop since I got this mac). I installed that and then restarted.
I don't know if apple slipped in another performance improvement for expose along with the other one (they do seem to put in undocumented changes and improvements with lots of updates), or if that coreaudio thing fixed it.
Smooth as silk after that reboot though. stumped

Lumia 900 Various Issues

I recently purchased a white Lumia 900 this past weekend, and just wanted to go over some concerns/issues I've had with it thus far. I was thinking about doing a return/replace with At&t, but it seems that the issues may vary. I'm hoping many of these can be resolved with a software update. Just FYI, I already ran the update that was released on 4/16 and have also reset the phone a few times since then.
Display:
1. The display has a purple hue (most noticeable on gray backgrounds) when set to low brightness. This is mostly an annoynace since my wife has the same phone and hers does not exhibit this behavior. I'm hoping this is not a hardware issue as it displays fine above the low brightness setting. Below is at least one thread of people having the same issue.

2. Screen response is slow. It seems that that there is a delay between where my finger is and how the screen tracks my movements. I'm hoping that can be adjusted to be similar to how the Lumia 800 responds as per this video. The tracking starts at 3:45.

3. Home screen scrolling is slower than other Windows Phones. On my previous Dell Venue Pro, I could scroll through the home screen much faster. From reading about the web, it seems that the Lumia 900 is set at a much slower pace, or that the inertia scrolling just isn't set. I'm hoping that can either be changed or allow us to change the scroll speed. The combination of the larger screen, the slower screen response, and the slower scrolling just makes the phone feel slower than it should be.

Sound/Notifications:
1. There is a large volume discrepancy between the speaker and the headphone jack. I try to keep the volume at one setting (around 18) because that is most comfortable for me when listening with headphones, but switching back to the speaker, and it is just clearly too loud at that setting. I'm hoping this can be changed with an update.

2. Changing the volume while the screen is off is very inconsistent. I have to press the volume rocker buttons several times before it makes the incremental change. It seems others were having issues with the volume rocker not working at all prior to the 4/16 update, so I'm hoping this can be fixed further.

3. Vibrate function seems to be making a rattling noise. This one definitely seems to be a hardware issue, though what I have seems to be 'normal' for a Lumia 900. It's not as bad as others I've seen on the web, where it would be extremely loud, but it is annoying nonetheless. I'm just hoping a hardware fix can be put in place for the future. It sounds similar to that of the Lumia 900 at the end of this video.

Camera:
1. The camera has issues with white balance and focus. This is definitely a software issue, since 3rd party camera software are able to take great pictures just fine, such as SophieCam. I'm hoping this can be addressed soon.

Despite these issues, I really do like the phone. I hope many of these issues can be addressed soon via software updates. We broke contract with our previous carrier to obtain these phones, and would really like to keep them, but not at their current state with these various issues. I'm hoping Nokia will see these issues and provide quick and helpful support for them.

OK, so I've calmed down a bit and now realize some detailed explanation of the issue could help to identify it more than ranting. So, here are the usage conditions and symptoms I noticed when I got into this battry drain, laggy, warm phone situation.
1st time:
Where: At work which is outside of Phoenix in a spotty reception area. I had maybe 1-2bars of 4G showing
What: Drove to work using bluetooth audio all the way. When I got to work I was trying to download an App, but the download failed. I tried again, and the download started, then just froze at 15%. I cancelled the download and tried again. It started to download and froze again at 15%. I attributed this to the weak coverage (but since then I've been able to complete a download from the same location with the same service)
Then the battery seemed to drain as fast as I could charge it...literally. I had the phone plugged into a USB charger and the state of charge barely changed after hours of charging. I never thought to re-start. I got home and my battery was basically dead after bluetooth audio all the way home (almost 1 hr). I finally restarted and had no more issues. Didn't really think anything of it...just thought my new phone had a **bleep** battery life
2nd time (following day):
Where: At home with strong LTE coverage in Tempe
What: Woke up, paired up with my portable bluetooth stereo at home. Let the music play while I hung out in the pool for a few hours. I was simultaneously taking pictures throughout the afternoon. Battery charge quickly fell to about 25%. I started to notice that when I would zoom into the pictures I had just taken, it would take about 15sec for the resolution to re-sharpen after zooming in. About 20min later my battery critically low warning came on. So, I plugged into my wall charger. Can't remember at what point I re-started.
That was Saturday. I had no issues and great battery life on Sunday. No bluetooth audio usage. Used Nokia Drive, the phone, internet, and various apps, but no BTA.
3rd time:
Where: Driving from Tempe to work, passing in and out of coverage along the way
What: Streamed Bluetooth audio the entire drive with a few phone calls mixed in. Got to work and the phone was warm, but I assumed this was normal after an hour of usage. Got into work and noticed it being laggy in general. Turned off data and BT Gave it a few minutes to recover and for the phone to cool off with no usage. Phone didn't cool off and remained laggy, so I figured something was up. I re-started, all issues disappeared, and phone cooled off. It has been fine since.

I have two laptops and 1 iphone:
Home - Macbook Pro
Work - Windows 7 netbook
iPhone - First hand, bought from my own service provider, never drop on the ground or goes into water
I only sync my iPhone 4 with my mac before. 3 days ago I updated iPhone firmware to 4.3, updated iTunes 10.2.1 in my mac, and installed iTunes 10.2.1 on my work laptop as well. I tried to connect my iPhone to my work laptop to see if everything works well. And I also back up and sync my phone before and after the iPhone firmware was updated. Everything seems fine.
2 days ago, I was playing games on my iPhone. My phone was suddenly being laggy. I rebooted my phone and then I tried to sync my iPhone with my mac as usual. However, a message pops up saying "This phone is already activated. You may disconnect disconnect this iPhone." every time when I connect my iPhone to my mac. So I pressed ok, but the phone kinda automatically ejects by itself from my mac iTunes. (i.e. iTunes no longer connects to my iPhone. iTunes doesnt even show the iPhone page and I cannot even restore my phone.)
Yesterday I tried to restore my phone with my mac and my work laptop by putting it into DFU mode.
1. After I restored the phone with my mac, I restored the back up with my work laptop after. After the phone was activated through windows iTunes, I connect the phone back to my mac and the same message pops up again saying "This phone is already activated. You may disconnect disconnect this iPhone."
2. After I restored the phone with my mac, I simply set it as a new iPhone. After the phone was activated through mac iTunes, the same message pops up again.
3. I restored iPhone with my work laptop. The phone stays connected with windows iTunes. After the phone was restored and set as a new iPhone, the phone was activated but no such message pops out. I can sync my iPhone like normal. No more automatic disconnection.
I tried to remove mac iTunes 10.2.1 and downgrade it to 10.2, but the same problem occurs every time when I connect my phone to my mac.
Since my work laptop is a netbook, the capacity is pretty small. I dont think my work laptop can always keep the 9GB back up of my phone, but the face is that I cannot lose all the stuffs in my phone. The best would be my phone being able to sync with my mac again.
... Could someone help with this problem? Or is there any like technical support? Is there anyone who have the same problem as well?

Slow hard disk access --- still wonky

Hi,
Recently i've noticed that hard disk access has become very laggy, to the point
where it's driving me crazy.
For example, if i want to tab-complete through my directories, i have to wait a
few seconds each time. Similarly with saving files in vim, or just using
firefox, which seems to suffer frequent hangs while the disk is spinning.
I tried downgrading the kernel to 3.4.something, to no avail (it definitely used
to work just fine with the old kernels). I've also tried adding "commit=60" to
my fstab to reduce journalling access.
I ran bonnie++ and the following results came back:

Arf -- i noticed firefox was still laggy last night, and on a (second or third) reboot this morning, things are back to being laggy even without having run firefox...

The lag tends to occur when first tabbing into a directory. On the second time
tabbing through things seem to be fast -- i guess that's cached somewhere.
editedit: i also tried switching back to initscripts, with no improvement, so i guess systemd is off the hook for the remaining problems

Illustrator CC Running sluggish.

Hello, I recently brought a new iMac 5k with 4GHz Intel Core i7 Processor, 16GB Memory, Graphics AMD Radeon R9 M290X, 256Gb SSD and Adobe CC.
I am getting some lag issues. By this I mean if I pan around art boards it is quite sluggish when it should be smooth. If I create a new A4 blank document, and move around it I experience the same stuttery issues as I do on bigger document, for example I have a 75mb document (huge I know) but acts just as laggy as an empty document. It's not major like, just not as smooth as you would expect. Especially on a blank document.
I have played around in PS CC and this appears to be fine, managing a 2GB document easily, including applying filters, moving around various elements etc. Which makes me think there is either something wrong with my illustrator or it is poorly optimized?
I've read a few older posts about CC being laggy but couldn't find a more recent one on the new 5k iMacs.
Any help/suggestions would be great.

Cannot connect to cellular service

My phone keeps saying "Searching" on top, and because of that I think it's causing my phone to lag. Buttons become unresponsive and so do tapping on them on screen. It starts freezing up and I think it's because it's attempting to get a signal with Sprint.
This problem did not happen yesterday but it has started today. I have done the factory reset and started it up again with the same problem.
Please advise.

Yes, I have done all that and it hasn't fixed the problem.
Guy at the Sprint store said that either it could be an isolated incident with the cell towers, or it could be the phone itself. He's basing the last part from the phone being laggy and unresponsive.
He also said I could try two things before heading out to an Apple store. First, wait it out for a day and see if it works tomorrow, or second, go to another place outside my home area and see if it corrects itself.
If both of these fail then I have to go to an Apple store to check it out.
I do remember dropping it yesterday, but that was five feet from the ground on a carpeted floor. Plus I have a hardened case for my iPhone. Yet I was able to call people and use apps right after that happened. All I did was turn it off for the night, and this morning I get this issue!

IPhone 5 freezing/crashing still replaced for free if out of Warrenty?

My iPhone 5 seems to keep turning it self off (does not reboot and turn on afterwards) freezing, crashing and generally being laggy. I've tried restoring etc, etc.
I've booked an appointment at the Apple Store tomorrow in hope of getting it replaced, hopefully for free? It's out of warrenty as I got it on day of release but seeing as it's not accidental damage etc and a software issue should I expect to get it replaced for free?

Window lost in Spaces!

I've had this Macbook pro for 2 days, never used a mac before but have plenty linux experience. I started by fiddling with preferences, and turned on Spaces and Expose, being used to similar under Beryl.
I turned the machine off, satisfied I'd set up a nice and somewhat understated interface. When I came to turn it on the next day, imagine my surprise when I couldn't open any directories or Systems preferences folders! After some more fiddling I found all the open windows by clicking on "Spaces" in the dock. It opened a screen with a dark background and all the windows I wanted on it. Unfortunately, it isn't made as a live cd, or even to boot - you have to double tap (or click) and then run it. But when I open it, there's no dialog box on my desktop. It appears in Spaces limbo, but I can't touch it there.
I've tried everything I can find via google.
Any ideas ppl? Please? Beginner begging here!

It is very hard to guess what you mean by this. Did you try to boot from the system DVD disc that came with your Mac or something else? If you boot from the DVD, you are running its version of Leopard, which is completely independent of anything on your hard drive, including any Spaces or other preferences you might have set up for the normal (or any other writable) boot volume.
A general suggestion: don't think about OS X as if it were a close cousin of Linux. The closest ancestor of OS X is the NextStep OS, a Unix operating system +based on+ the Mach kernel & source code from BSD Unix. However, the OS X kernel is XNU, which stands for "X is Not Unix."

Why does the iPad 3 have so much lag on ios7?

My iPad 3 has so much lag on ios7 i cant believe apple would pass this i have restored twice and set up as new ipad and still does not fix the lag. It takes at least 10 seconds to change a wallpaper even rotating the ipad lags also safari is really bad wish i didn't update now. Ios7 is smooth as butter on my iPhone 5 how could apple get it so wrong on the iPad! There is alot of reports of ios7 being laggy on the iPad 4 and mini aswell. I cant seem to get rid of the lag no matter what i try does anyone have any suggestions? Apple?

It is luckily that an iOS 7 update will be coming out this week. As it's 7.0, there is a lot of bug so just wait to you update for a 2 week. Try restarting your iPad by holding the power button and the home button down at the same time till you see a apple, that will help.

HD4870 - freeze- crash + fan acceleration

Hi Everybody,
I have a mac pro early 2009 (4.1), which have all its originals components.
I have the following problem:
When i launch a game (ex: starcraft2, rust...etc ), the hd4870 fan briefly accelerate to 100%, and then the screen freeze , and i have no option but reset by holding the power button ...
Precision:
When i launch the game with all the graphics parameters to 'low', it doesn't crash (i can't even hear the gpu fan, the card seems to be idle), but when i put the graphic level to 'medium', instantly the fan accelerate for a sec (and calm down right after) and the screen freeze ...
I remember that i used to run sc2 in 'high' settings with no trouble...
So i wonder if my card is dead... ?
PS: My hd4870 - 512 is on the slot 2.

I allready cleaned up the whole card,
I'm testing the card ingame a this moment, and it seems that only certain parameters make the freeze+crash happen (like antialiasing, shaders .. etc), in high res setting (without shadders and AA), the fan is still idle and the game run without trouble... but when i put the AA, it crash instantly instead of being ' laggy '...
Weird problem...
As you said i shoud probably buy a new one and thanks for the gtx 650 ref !
And yes i've heard about those cards which works on the mac only if you 'reflash' it... i'm not pro with this kind of operation.. i'll choose one wich works 'out of the box'

Try:
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Reset all settings
