Expose Keyboard Shortcut Changes Don't Affect Slow-Mo

Because I use my F keys for working in the Adobe CS2 Suite, I have changed the Expose keyboard shortcuts to require the ctrl key.
However, this did not change the slow-motion Expose key combinations. For example: while the F10 Adobe shortcut now works on the Adobe App, when I try to use the Shift-F10 Adobe shortcut I still get the slow-motion Expose. I do not see that keyboard shortcut anywhere in the preferences menus, so I don't know how to re-map it.
I don't want to lose the slow-mo... I still want it because it still causes envy in my PC using friends! I just want to re-map it.
Can anyone give me a suggestion? Thanks.
PS: This brings up a suggestion: since Apple makes all their own hardware why not put in separate buttons or other hardware controls for Expose & Dashboard? If Microsoft can single-handedly get all their IBM cloners to put a Windows key on all their PCs (genius marketing in the guise of usability), I don't' see why Apple can't do the same with the hardware they design and manufacture (and their button would actually be useful!)

I have a similar problem, where I try to publish a flash file using shift-F12 and instead get the slow expose. I really don't care for it, just want to totally disable it. Anyone know how?

  • Duplicate expose keyboard shortcuts?

I have just bought an apple keyboard to use with my macbook. On the internal keyboard, I use the keys F8-F12 for spaces, expose and dashboard shortcuts. However, on the external keyboard, those keys are used for play, fast forward, and volume controls.
Is it possible to add a second mapping of the shortcuts for expose, etc, to some of the F13-F19 keys (which don't seem to be used for anything else)?
I don't want to just change the keys in the system prefs for expose and spaces to be those higher F-keys, because then when i unplug the keyboard, I won't be able to use the original keys on the internal keyboard.
    any ideas?
    thanks in advance!

Ray, Thanks for the very helpful response.
To add to your discovery, it also appears that under system preferences/keyboard, there is a box that is defaulted "unchecked" that reads, "Use all F1, F2, etc. keys as standard function keys. When this option is selected, press the FN key to use the special features printed on each key."
That is why my keyboard is over-riding the function keys b/c it is unchecked. When I check this box the expose works as intended.
I also find that my mouse is set up to have the "side" buttons linked with expose.
Under the keyboard shortcuts, I can see where I can check/uncheck the keyboard options but not change them. Still playing around with it...but you definitely solved it for me.
I will mark as such. Good work! Thanks.

  • Expose keyboard shortcuts seem to already be taken; i'm confused; help?

    Hello,
I'm a mac newbie. Under the mac help instructions for expose, I find these instructions:
xposé provides a quick way to see all open application windows and switch between them. Press the F9 key to see all the windows you have open, or press the F10 key to see the open windows in the application you are currently using. To hide all open windows so you can see the desktop, press F11.
What I find is that f9, f10, and f11 are taken with other shortcuts on the keyboard and I can never get the expose shortcuts to work. I've played around and find no way around this.
    What am I doing wrong?
    Thanks.

  • Keyboard Shortcut for 'Don't Save'?

I prefer keyboard shortcuts to the mouse for many things and when I close an unneeded file (in TextEdit for example) I used to type cmd-d for don't save.  That is no long an option and it also seems impossible to create a short cut in software like Keyboard Maestro because the dialog location depends on the window size. Any ideas on how to make cmd-d work again?

  • Spotlight keyboard shortcuts sometimes don't work

I'm not sure when this problem started cropping up--probably after 10.8.1--I'm running 10.8.2 on a 2012 Macbook Pro.  Anyway, I'm noticing two bad behaviors with keyboard shortcuts on spotlight.
The first problem is sometimes, the alt-cmd-space short cut sometimes quits working.  I'm not sure what causes it to quit, but it does.
The second problem is within the spotlight pulldown menu.  Selecting the found item and then hitting cmd-enter is *supposed* to bring up the containing folder for the item in Finder.  But sometimes, this no longer works (it goes to Finder, but doesn't go to the containing folder.)
Both of these problems appear to crop up at the same time and both can be fixed by restarting the computer.
When I go into the spotlight preferences, I notice that next to the keyboard shortcuts, there are little "!" indicators.  I thought those things mean there is a conflict with the keyboard shortcut, but if I click them and search through the keyboard shortcut settings, I can find no conflicts.
Is anyone else seeing this problem?

It is possible a background app is using the same key combination.  Monosnap for example uses cmd+opt+5 but it does not show up in my keyboard shortcuts.  You may want to see what else you have running when it does not work and look at the preferences.  This mans any apps in the dock and any processes in the menubar.  If it allows you, change them accordingly.

  • Default keyboard shortcuts changed

I had to safe boot my computer yesterday because my Mountain Lion update failed; after the update succesfully worked though, all of the shortcuts changed. I was able to change some of these shortcuts so that they work normally again (i.e. brightness shortcuts), however they keys F7 to the eject button do not work. I have the latest wireless keyboard and always have had the latest wireless keyboard for the iMac, and the keyboard has always been fully updated.
Could someone try and help me out?
    Thanks in advance!

You might wanna try resetting settings.

  • Keyboard Shortcuts Changed?

    How annoying is this?
I'm in the midst of a massive tag cleanup exercise (going on 9 days), I upgrade to iTunes 8.2, and all of a sudden, the "Go to the previous or next pane in the Get Info or Preferences window" shortcut no longer works!
According to Apple (I'm guessing they haven't updated it yet) it should work:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/tutorials/shortcuts.html
+Go to the previous or next pane in the Get Info or Preferences window+
    +Command-click left bracket ( [ ) or right bracket ( ] )+
Anyone else having this problem? Any suggestions around it?
    Thanks,
    D

I haven't downloaded the new update yet, so can't try it myself yet. But as an aside, have you done a Repair Permissions on your boot drive and also rebooted the computer after that since you did the update?

  • Some keyboard shortcuts are not working

I have found a few keyboard shortcuts that don't work, no matter what you set the shortcut to. I only found two, and they are "Show Desktop", and "Show Launchpad". I have set them to many different combinations, none of which seem to work. every once in a while, it will work, but after my computer goes to sleep, it doesn't work again. It only works some of the times after I restart or shutdown. When I open the shortcut tab under the keyboard settings menu, it always defaults to the screenshots tab, and I don't know if this is a bug or not.

there may be a conflict with some system-level shortcuts, for instance the shortcuts in the System Prefs for Dashboard and Expose default to F9, F10, F11, which will supersede the default FCP shortcuts for insert, overwrite, and replace edits.
Check your keyboard layouts in FCP - if the shortcuts are assigned, then check those two System Prefs panes (keyboard, Dashboard & Expose) for system-level shortcuts that might be conflicting.

  • Mission Control keyboard shortcut problems

I have a problem with my keyboard shortcuts (changing space with Mission Control)
Sometimes they do not work... then I have to reset PRAM (using this guide http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1379) and then it works again. Then after some time it fails again.
    Anyone having the same problem?

Just another quick update, the link above is not possible CSGO and other steam games do not allow you to define custom shortcuts.  I found an article on the web indicating that scripting this is not possible either as the plist you modify requires killing the mission control process entirely to reload the settings, and then doesn't remember the modification you make to the plist anyway.  This is a real pain, maybe I have to learn to deal with AWSD controls in FPS games if I intend to use the mac :-/

  • Keyboard shortcuts

I've read topics around keyboard shortcuts that don't work properly and have trashed the pref files http://www.fcpbook.com/Misc1.html. But that did not fix the issue I have.
I have FCE4 set in french. My keyboard layout is swiss-french. What I don't understand is that some shortcuts work fine and other don't. With the browser window active, the shortcut Cmd-N will create a new sequence, but Cmd-B doen't create a new bin. Cmd-B never does anything. Odd when you know that the letter B is located at the same place on a swiss or an english keyboard!
Sometimes Cmd-Q will have the right effect (quit FCE), but sometimes Cmd-Q is the shortcut for 'select all', meaning that A and Q are reversed. But looking at the differences between the swiss and the english keyboard layout, I could not find the logic!!!
Also some weird stuff in the menus: for instance in the edit menu, from time to time the shortcut for 'cancel' is Cmd-Z or could be Cmd-W.
What I'm pretty sure of is that some shortcuts did work well (Cmd-B) until some download of Apple updates a month ago. Unfortunately I couldn't say which one could be the cause of my issue.
Needless to say that my keyboard layout work absolutely fine with all other applications.
Any idea?? Could that be the fact in the Preferences - International, the format is set to France instead of maybe Switzerland???

I just installed Leopard and I ran into this keyboard shortcut problem.
    I can confirm that:
    a. the +problem exists also with the Italian keyboard+ (in addition to other languages, as pointed by other posters)
    b. the +workaround I described in my previous answer works fine+ :
    - close FCE (if open)
    - open System Preferences/International/Language
    - drag English to the first place on top of the other languages
    - drag your own language (Italian in my case) again on top of English (at the end the window will show the same original settings, but something happened in the heart of Leopard...)
    - close System Preferences
    - open FCE: now all shortcuts work as expected, and are correctly listed with their corresponding menu commands
It's a workaround, it's not convenient (I'd better have this bug fixed), but apparently you have to apply it only once for each system startup.

  • Brightness Keyboard Shortcut - Dual Displays

    Hi guys,
Posted this in another forum and did not get an answer so thought I'd give it a try here. I've got a Mac Pro with dual 23" displays. Anyone know of a way for the keyboard shortcuts (F14/F15) to affect brightness on BOTH displays instead of just the main one?
    Thanks in advance!

Nope. Not it. I managed to set it so F1/F2 **AND** Fn+F1/Fn+F2 adjust the screen brightness. I can't for the life of me find where I *defined the keyboard shortcuts* for the screen brightness. I know that I did it, I just wish I'd written down *where*.
The problem I'm having is that the system F1/F2 functions are overriding application-specific shortcuts. NOT the "Function/Fn" stuff.

  • CS4 Load Luminance Mask, keyboard shortcut

    I recently installed CS4.
Is there a new keyboard shortcut to load the Luminance mask?

I have read these earlier posts but did not find any posts for CS4.

  • Upgraded to FF 17 for Mac, can't navigate backwards via back button, keyboard shortcut, or back button's drop-down.

Back button, back-button's dropdown menu, keyboard shortcut (command-[) don't function after upgrade. I've disabled extensions that seem suspect.

Did you try to disable all extensions?

  • How to change keyboard shortcut for cycle through open tabs in PS and AI CC 2014

I would love to set my own keyboard shortcuts for cycling through open tabs in PS and AI 2014 on OS X. I found out that this can be achieved with ctrl+tab in PS, but I couldn't manage to make any of the suggestions in the forum work for AI. As said, I would like to set a more "standard" shortcut like alt+cmd+arrow-keys for both of the apps. If that shouldn't be possible, does anyone know a shortcut in AI CC 2014?
    Many thanks!
    Amadeus

Thanks! The shortcut can be set like this in AI, although all key combinations I would want to use are not allowed. Too bad. But anyways, thank you very much for the tip!
cmd+~ is not an option for me, I guess, since the swiss/german keyboard layout has no dedicated tilde key.
So, I have a working shortcut in PS (ctrl+tab / of which I still don't know how to change, if possible at all) and thanks to you, I can now set one in AI as well. Unfortunately, I can not set it to be identical as in PS, since the "cmd" key needs to be included in AI's shortcut assignment dialogue, but I guess, this is as good as it gets.

  • I hate it when they change all the keyboard shortcuts. Is there a fix for these?

I don't understand why Adobe thinks that consistency is a bad thing, but it seems that everytime they update they go jerking with my keyboard shortcuts. Last time it was Indesign, this time it Photoshop that has me complaining. Usually I can change things back to the way I like under Edit/ Keyboard Shortcuts... but this time they've really done it.
Probably the 2 sets of shortcuts that I use the most over the last 15 years of using Photoshop, thus have become a natural reflex, when using the program are Toggling between CMYK channels via cmd-1,2,3&4, (sorry using cmd 3,4,5&6 is just completely unnatural) and Fit to Window (cmd-0). I cannot find a menu selection anywhere that would allow me to change these back, and Fit to Window has been completely removed from the view menu altogether! WTF?
I guess I could get used to the new channel key commands if need be, but no Fit to Window? what is this world coming to?
Anyone know of a workaround to this problem.

Heh...found the ad-copy I wrote for AccessPad Pro:
You're a power-user. The applications you work with do your bidding like YoYo Ma's Cello, like Perleman's violin, like Bill Evans' piano.
You've customized the way your applications openall the Tools and Palettes show up right where you like them. You may even have a few custom workspace arrangements for different purposes. You switch between them with a mouse click, and you're ready to go.
You've made brilliant use of Actions, Macros, Scripts and other built-in time- and effort-saving functions.
You know hundreds of keyboard shortcuts, and have spent time reassigning the defaults to more deftly meet your needs. You've assigned F-key shortcuts to some of those functions that don't even have shortcuts.
You're a power-user, but you've run up against a couple things that put a brick wall in front of your ever-increasing efficiency.
Firstyour keyboard is designed for typing actual text. It's been that way since the dawn of the first mechanical typewriters. The way the keys are arranged are meant to make it easy for your fingers to find the keys. Even if you use the arguably better Dvorak arrangement for key assignments. Even if you have one of those split-and-angled "ergonomic keyboards, they're still designed to do one thing well: Let the user type text as efficiently as possible.
Your keyboardwhatever the specieswas never meant to be an efficient, ergonomic way to access the shortcuts you depend on. For your current keyboardnay, ANY keyboardto perform optimally as a shortcut access device, you'd do well to have a third hand, or a freakishly long set of fingers that could bend 360 degrees in any direction.
SecondYour keyboard only allows a finite number of shortcuts. If you find yourself wishing and begging for just one more F-key, so you wouldn't have to get rid of some of your old shortcuts just to add a newly discovered "must-have", you're out of luck. It's about impossible to find one that has any more than 16 F-keys. Even if you could find a keyboard with more user-assignable keys, there's still the matter of the first problem, that is: How to reach them easily and quickly?
Forget all of those hassles, starting now.
The AccessPad Pro, by Phosergistics, is a computer peripheral designed from the ground up to allow youthe kings and queens of all power usersto have access to a virtually unlimited number of shortcuts. It sits on your desk, opposite the hand you use for operating your mouse. You rest your hand on it, in a comfortable relaxed manner. Notice where your thumb naturally falls. Right there, under your thumb, you find that there are buttons that replicated the Command & Option keys found on your keyboard. They can be pressed and activated independently or in tandem.
Under the heel of your hand is a somewhat larger button. Press down slightly, and you'll enable the same behavior as the Shift key on your keyboard.
Using your thumb and the heel of your hand you can enable 6 combinations of modifiers.
Now, look at your fingers. Beneath where they naturally rest on the AccessPad Pro you'll see six gracefully curved rows of buttons, 4 in each row. These buttons are arranged ergonomically, so the slightest curl of your finger can find and press any of the 24 buttons.
Let's do some simple math: 6 combinations of modifier keys, multiplied by 24 easily reachable, user-assignable function buttons...The AccessPad Pro gives you comfortable access to a whopping 144 shortcut assignments, all without moving your hand.
But that's not all. 144 shortcuts isn't enough for you? No problem. You can have a virtually unlimited number of these 144 shortcut sets, user assignable to work system-wide, or on a per-application basis, and you can load any set, any time you want. And because these custom shortcut assignments are written to a preset file using the industry standard XML scripting language, you can save these sets as tiny text files which you can share and trade with users on either the Mac or Windows platform.
You're a power-user. Forget about trying to grow a 3rd hand. Forget about wishing you hand foot-long fingers.
Use your mouse for moving your cursor.
Use your keyboard for typing text.
Use AccessPad Pro to speed up everything else you do on your computer. Try it for a week and you'll wonder how you ever worked without it.
