Expose on the dock?

Is there a way to create a shortcut for Expose on the dock or even the dashboard? I'd like to be able to double click on an icon and use expose, rather having to use the keyboard. I know this is possible in Leopard. Can this be done in Tiger?

I don't know about Dock or Dashboard but you can set it so moving the cursor to different corners of the screen will activate things (see Expose and Dashboard preferences). This is more convenient than a dock or dashboard option since you don't even have to click.

I am using iphoto 6.0.6 and after opening the application it drops below the dock.  I can see it when I use expose to reveal all open windows but once selected it drops below the dock.

Try trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder.
(On 10.7: Hold the option (or alt) key while clicking on the Go menu in Finder to access the User Library)
(Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
    What's the plist file?
For new users: Every application on your Mac has an accompanying plist file. It records certain User choices. For instance, in your favourite Word Processor it remembers your choice of Default Font, on your Web Browser is remembers things like your choice of Home Page. It even recalls what windows you had open last if your app allows you to pick up from where you left off last. The iPhoto plist file remembers things like the location of the Library, your choice of background colour, whether you are running a Referenced or Managed Library, what preferences you have for autosplitting events and so on. Trashing the plist file forces the app to generate a new one on the next launch, and this restores things to the Factory Defaults. Hence, if you've changed any of these things you'll need to reset them. If you haven't, then no bother. Trashing the plist file is Mac troubleshooting 101.

  • How to stop application folder form disappearing from the dock

I'm on MAC OS 10.6.7 on my Macbook 7.1.  My applications folder disappeared from the dock.  I can drag a new copy from the Mac Hard Disk folder to the dock (to the right of the dashed line (my dock is at the bottom) and it appears with an Address book icon.  After 10 to 15 seconds, the icon disappears.
Anyone know what is going on and how to fix this?

Not sure why this is happening, but try this. This is the way I've done it. First, make an alias of the folder (File>make alias) and put it somwhere, like Documents. Then, copy drag it (Option-click) to the part of the dock below or to the side of the separator near the Trash icon. This will place an alias of the folder in the Dock. You must keep the first alias you made.
You can also make one just for Utilities, the same way. The app folder will appear with an A and the Utilties folder will appear with an X.
EDIT: It's been a while now, but I think I got rid of the default app folder because I didn't like the way it looked and functioned.
You can also see I put an alias of my home folder there, as well.
Might as well mention another customisation. Get Tinkertool (free) Go to Dock>Disable Dock Expose to get rid of the very annoying -- at least to me -- entire screen turning black when opening one of the Dock icon's options.

  • How can I disable the dock?

I've become attached to the hotkeying program Butler and decided I don't want to use my dock anymore. I have used Onyx and System Preferences options to make it tiny and get it to the corner of the screen, but when my mouse heads to that side of the screen, the dock still appears.
Is there any way to completely disable the dock? Basically, I never want to see it again, in any form. I've checked around the forums and nobody seems to have an answer for this...and won't just permanently killing the process mess up my Expose?
    Thanks.

You may have better success hiding the Dock by setting it to the top of the screen, rather than the side.
"Since this requires you to carefully point at the pixel at the base of the menu bar to activate the Dock I rarely see it."

  • Right Click on dock icon freeze the dock

Using Macbook Pro, 10.6.4. A lot of the time when I was trying to right click on a dock icon, the dock freeze, expose and spaces all not working, I have to call up activity monitor to force quit the dock and everything went fine again.
It's very annoying especially when you're in rush for something important.
Anyone has this experience before or know how to fix it?
    Thanks for any kind help.

I've been having some issues with Dock/Exposé/Spaces (they're all related, as far as I know). Not the same though.
Go into ~/Library/Preferences. You'll see a lot of files called com.apple.something.plist. Remove all the files in which something has to do with Dock, Expose, Finder, or Spaces. Reboot. See if that fixes anything. You could also try the 10.6.4 combo update.

  • Only Force Quit available in the dock

Recently, the behaviour of my dock has become somewhat funky. The first problem is that when I Control-Click on any application, I get the Application not responding menu, meaning I can't Quit the app, just force quit it. This is true for any application, although when I click on it, it works just fine. Another problem is that the application icons never change - the mail icon doesn't show new messages, Adium doesn't reflect my status. The last thing I noticed is that screen corners don't work anymore for expose functions.
I have tried trashing the dock preference file and realunching the finder, but no success.
Any ideas would of course be greatly appreciated. I wanna see the little number on my mail icon again!

  • I'm on ff 3.5.5 for Mac. I've been prompted twice to download latest version. Each time I have dragged the ff icon from applications folder to the dock and all seems ok. But next time I start ff it says I'm on 3.5.5 and should update to latest version!

There was no "update failed" message
I wonder whether I'm doing the right thing when I drag to the dock. There's only one ff icon in the applications folder. The first time I was prompted to update it showed that days date next to the icon as if the update was successful. The second time was a few days later but I think it was still the same date next to the icon (25/8/10) I've only just noticed that (on 10/9/10) so can't be sure but I'm sure the second time was around 2nd or 3rd of Sept.
Also, I am running two versions of ff- one is english, the other is the Italian version. They can't be opened at the same time but they seem to talk to eachother in the background, so to speak, because when I open one after a long gap, it opens with all the history and settings of the other one, right up to the last website I went to. I think I closed both when updating because it prompts you to close all programmes and restart (I think/ remember) so I just clicked ok to that prompt.
By the way, I got the prompt to update twice for ''BOTH'' the Italian and the English version- so 4 times altogether so it would seem that ff does recognise them as separate but still has problems concluding the update for each separate one respectively.
Thank you very much if you can help.

Download a new copy of the Firefox program: http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all.html
Trash the current Firefox application to do a clean reinstall.
Install the new version that you have downloaded.

Since upgrading to Maverick from Mountain Lion I am unable to open Pages from the Dock.  When I click on the pages icon in the dock the icon just keeps bouncing up and down.  However, I can open pages by clicking on the icon in the Apps folder.  No problems prior to upgrading to Maverick.

Quit Pages. Drag its icon out of the Dock. Create a new one by dragging the application into the Dock. Test.

When I open Pages from the Dock,  the page comes up on the screen but immediately hangs up with the rainbow circle spinning.  I finally have to force quite to make it go away.  It does not ask me to choose a template.  This is sporadic, sometimes working, sometimes not.  What is going on?

    Helo,
Did you try to delete Pages' preferences file(s) in the folder your-user-name/Library/Preferences ?
There are one or more (depends on your OS X version) file like "com.apple.iWork.Pages.plist"
You can also repair permissions with Disk Utility in the folder Applications/Utilities.
Choose the hard drive were Pages is and click the button "Repair permissions".
    Or you can re-install Pages.
    Hope this will help.

  • After Effects CS5.5 Wont Open - Application Just Bounces In The Dock.

    Hi all,
I appear to have encountered a problem with After Effects... I was working on a project earlier today which usalizes a VideoCopilot plug-in called Element 3D. After a quick break I came back to the project and attempted to load in the 'Free Earth Project' by VideoCopilot. (http://www.videocopilot.net/blog/2012/08/free-earth-project-for-element-3d/). As their site suggests, I had to place a downloaded project folder called 'Earth' into Element 3D's 'My_Models' folder. Immediately after this I tried loading After Effects and encountered the issue. I'm not sure if it's couincidence or directly related which is why I am posting here.
After Effects does nothing but bounce in the Dock. When I right-click the application I'm met with a 'Force Quit' option, and a message saying "Application not responding". I'm on OS X 10.7.4. I'm not able to tell you what version of AE I'm running, only that it's CS5.5, as I cannot lanch it to find out. All other Adobe products work with no problem.
I have already contacted the support team at VideoCopilot and they have sent me an updated build of Element 3D in an attempt to resolve the issue, unfortunately though this did not work. Addiitonally, I have tried booting into Safe-Mode and tried to launch the application from there, as well as using Disk-Utility to 'Repair Permissions'. All of these steps have failed to get AE working again.
If anyone knows of a way to fix this I would be most grateful. I'm working to a very tight deadline and am afraid that I will miss it. Additionally, if anyone has any fixes that doesn't require reinstalling applications that'll be a bonus!
I've also attached a crash-report to this post incase it's of any use in determining the cause of the problem (I couldn't find a way to attach it directly, so the file is hosted on my website - I apologise in advance if this is against forum rules!) -  http://www.starfireindustries.org.uk/uploads/8/6/6/1/8661295/ae_error_report.rtf
    Thanks in advance,
    John.

I have the exact same problem. I have not changed anything. This is probably a bug or something that has gone bad with Mac OS X (10.7.2). I have not found any solution for this on the web.

  • Is there a way of putting firefox bookmarks folder on the dock

Is there a way of putting firefox bookmarks folder on the dock. not just one bookmark. i have done that. but i want all of them in stack or something.. similar to how windows did it in the start menu. its annoying that you have to open firefox first to access your links.
i got my first imac yesterday and loving it!!! albeit the text is a bit small but i have found the zoom!
    thanks in advance

Perhaps you don't know how to bring icons into the Firefox  Toolbar. You can put many things up there, including Bookmarks. You can also remove an icon or rearrange the order of icons.
    From View>Toolbars>Customize
Here is the Bookmarks icon (next to the History icon) from which you can open all your bookmarks directly. And if you can remember a keyword, it will find that one, or any others that come up with that keyword. It's really quite convenient to use and will stay updated with any new bookmarks that are added.
This is showing the Bookmarks open, which can be closed by clickng on the small x.

  • After Effects just bounces in the dock but wont start

    Hi all,
Just installed CS4 production studio under Snow Leopard.  All works well and updated using the Adobe Updater.  All apps are fine except AE which just bounces in the dock a few times and then stops.  I read that this could be because Rosetta was not installed.  I installed Rosetta from the Snow Leopard DVD and still nothing.  Have restarted 3 times just in case (I also read that several restarts may be required to get it to work), but still nothing.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Regards
    Dave

OK... Now I feel like Scott of the Antartic writing in his journal before the inevitable... I am writing this purely to help anyone else with the same issue to resolve it without the pain that I am still experiencing.  Hopefully the last entry will read "all solved" and not "I am about to pop outside... I may be some time..."
After using CS2 for the bulk of my work I thought I'd try and get this solved once and for all, especially as we have a DVCPROHD project coming up and need CS4 to do it.
OK... The so now I have the suite running, except Premiere is running under at trial without the presets and the updates fail when installing.  Contacted support this week, they wont re-open the original case because it has been over a month.  Fair enough, new case.
The adobe guy takes control of my machine, deactivates it, then from Finder deletes lots of folders.  He then asks me to re-install the products.  I do this (2 hours later) and run Premiere and it appears to work with presets.  I look a bit closer and notice that under the help menu of Premiere Register, Deactivate and Updates are all greyed out.  This is not the case in the other products of the suite.  OK, so not a major deal but does imply something is not installed right.  I run the Adobe Updater, Premiere updates, but AE, PS and several updates fail.
Call back to support.  This time the Adobe guy takes control of my machine suggests I deactivate the suite, run the un-install and then download and run the CS3 Clean script and re-install.  I do all this.  Another 2 hours later feeding discs into the machine... and... Premiere looks fine, presets all there... but wait for it... AFTER EFFECTS JUST BOUNCES IN THE DOCK BUT WONT START.
3rd call back to support and ask for the issue to be escalated.  This is difficult and I have to cause a fuss to realise that this problem is the same one that has been hanging around for months and that I am not prepared to spend more hours removing every trace of Adobe from my machine and re-installing - this doesn't work.  The support technician asks me to delete a hidden folder that has all the Adobe patches in it, manually download the AE 9.0.2 update and install it.   It installs but AE wont start.  I explain that I've had enough and want the problem escalated.
I finally get a call back from a 2nd level engineer this morning.  After explaining the that AE wont start and then answering the question "why is this a problem for you!" we do some quick troubleshooting.  This time I have to pull out the network cable, turn off Airport, create a new user account, log on to it and then see if AE runs.  Which it does.  Within seconds we get launched into the pre-determined script, "if it runs under another user account then there is nothing wrong with the applications and I should call Apple".  After being patronised for a further 5 mins I had to PROVE to the guy that it was also possible that the fault was Adobes.  I also know the moment I phone Apple, the response will be "Call Adobe".
The only example I could give him at the time was to image a piece of software I had written that allocated memory based on the screen resolution (this is a user preference) and if my code was badly written and crashed when encountering a screen resolution bigger than my code was expecting.  OK, is that Apple's fault, no it is my code.  Will it run under one user and not another, yes it will.  There are a million other posibilities.  Some I agree could be Apple's, but equally some could be Adobes and the big fat fob off as soon as you can is terrible.
I have also since realised since leaving this call with the technician, that:
    1) This is a brand new iMac and the Adobe Suite was the 1st piece of 3rd party software installed on it.
    2) The iMac is for video editing and nothing else.
    3) This was working without presets before the Adobe guys deleted all these files and asked me to re-install.  It is more likely that they have deleted something they should not have rather than the a bug in the OS.  A bug in the OS is still possible but I suspect the problem is with a rogue bit of installation code from Adobe.
Finally incase anyone from Adobe is reading this:
I have paid thousands of pounds for this software.
I have been unable to use it for months.
A problem like this should be gold dust for you.  Here is the chance to get to the bottom of an issue that several people are having, understand the mechanics of what is going wrong.  Write a KB article as well as a patch and this would save the time/money and effort of an awful lot of people (including your own).
As a short thought experiment I would like everyone at Adobe to image the following:
You pay £1,000 of your own money for a tool to do your work on the promise that you can make this money back in productivity gains, new business, etc.
The tool you use every day to make a living won't work.  For the benefit of the experiment, imagine this is your email client, web browser or case management tool.
You have no IT group to replace your machine or to come and solve it.
You can't tell your customers that your software is down and you have to keep doing your job.
You have to spend an additional 3 days in your own time, working late or weekends to try and fix the software yourself.
You to keep downloading a Gigabyte of data 3 or four times and you have to pay for downloads.  Currently you are running up a bill of over £100 in downloads and phone calls.
You don't get paid the overtime and your customers start complaining you are late with your work.
You lose customers... you eventually get fired because you have lost too many of them.
...This is what it feels like for a small creative business to not be able to install the software they bought.
