Exposé

Hi, I might be missing something obvious here.
My hot corners seem to have stopped working when I select them on expose in system preferences, I assume that I have changed some settings somewhere along the line??!
Hardly a catastrophe but it would be nice to get them back.
If anyone can help it would be much appreciated.
Thanks, Ben.

Oh. What did you do????? Mine is having the same pro

  • Is there a way to adjust the settings on launchpad so that when I swipe into it all the open apps/pages are fully separated (like in exposé) so that I can fully view all of them simultaneously?

    Hi Apple community,
This is my first go at this so be kind,
My question concerns launchpad. Coming from Snow Leopard I had been using spaces. I like to keep certain bundles of programs on separate desktops, for example all word processing related tasks in one place. I have set up the equivalent on Yosemite.
My problem is concerns the loss of exposé. Now I know when you swipe into launch pad you get a very similar effect but the issue I am having concerns the "zoom out" effect when you swipe into launchpad. With exposé all open apps/pages etc would be fully exposed - in my case several (sometimes as many as 9 word documents). What I am running into is when I do this in / into launch pad the "pile" of docs is exposed but they are still overlapping so I can't get a good look at which is which and visually identify where I want to navigate to.
My question is this; Is there a way to adjust the settings on launchpad so that when I swipe into it all the open apps/pages are fully separated (like in exposé) so that I can fully view all of them simultaneously? If so, instructions on how to do so would be greatly appreciated. Any alternative suggestions to doing this outside of launchpad are also welcome. If there is an exposé app for example, I would be quite willing to go that route.
My main concern is being able to quickly (ie a touchpad gesture) expand all the open pages so I can bounce between them.
Much thanks from a loyal Apple friend.

    Hey Eric,
Thanks for taking the time. Unfortunately no that does not solve it. Same as swipe it will get me there and it will show separate programs spaced out. The issue I am having is that all my open word files are bunched up in a pile on top of each other. I can see the edges of each one but I want them to be separated from each other enough that I can visually identify what file is what.
Again, thanks for trying, it is appreciated.

  • EFI Update and Exposé

Just wanted to know if anyone is having an issue with Exposé remembering the "Hide and Show" key that is set for Dashboard. Ever since the firmware update that fixed the dreaded RAW scenario it keeps forgetting they key that I select after I restart or wake from sleep. Trivial, I know, but a little annoying as I like to use the calculator widget often.

Now it's doing it at any point randomly, even when the MP hasn't been restarted. I'll be working along and then need to use the calculator, hit F13 and nada. I then check the preferences and nothing is selected. So set it back to F13 and go back to work. A couple hours later I try hitting F13 again and mind you without a reboot or shut down or sleeping it "forgets" the key selected again. Quite frustrating albeit a minor imposition compare to the RAW issue. Anyone have any suggestions?

  • Exposé doesn't show the window I choose

When I invoke Exposé and click a new window, Exposé ignores what I clicked and returns to the last active window.
For example: let's say I'm using Safari and I have Mail open in the background. I invoke Exposé and click on the Mail window to change applications. But instead of switching to Mail, my OS just returns to the Safari window, as if I clicked it instead.
(I notice that the blue highlighting doesn't respect what I click. It remains on the window that's active. As if it doesn't see what I'm selecting. Sometimes the highlighting will briefly, correctly, appear over the window I'm actually trying to select—but then it moves back to another window.)
I have tried all the fancy reboots I know, and I have even reinstalled my OS (not a wipe and install, but a reinstall—hope I did it right).
    Anyone got any ideas? Thanks!

so i want to click on the servise center but i cant just goes to safari

  • What can you do when you get a little tired of exposé...?

Exposé is a fine way to switch between applications, but I have grown a little tired of it - sometimes at least. If I'm running a lot of apps it tends to work slowly and with a lot of apps open it's hard to tell the difference between them.
So I was thinking: When you ctrl click on an app icon in the dock you can see what windows you have open in that app. But it's a bit clumsy system. Is there an easier and faster way to see these windows? Some kind of addon to the dock maybe?
    Thanks

"Expose can show All Windows, which you've been using apparently, but it can also show only Application Windows"
I've been using that to, but thanks for the suggestion anyway! I actually don't know why I don't wanna use exposé cause I thought it was brilliant at first. And I still think it's okay, but sometimes I get tired of all the corners I accidently touch and suddenly my windows fly around the screen Also I sometimes feel that exposé requires a lot of moving around the mouse because it's hard to know where the various windows are gonna show up.
I just realized that there's a "Window menu" in every app. I forgot about that. So it is possible to navigate a Mac without exposé. I was just looking for something ... I don't know, maybe more Mac like, you know? Intuitive and efficient (which many will probably say that exposé is, but I've been through that). Sorry to be so demanding
More suggestions are most welcome and thanks all for your replies!

  • Comment: Lion's lack of Exposé is lame.

I am not saying that I don't see potential in the new Mission Control (i.e., the all new "Über Master Control Center Station" - whetever).
All I am saying is that I really don't like that the "new" Exposé (i.e., "All Windows") does NOT do two very handy things:
    1.  Mission Control does NOT display hideen windows (of any kind); and
    2.  "All Windows" (i.e., "New Exposé") only displays windows related to the active Application (not "ALL Windows", as the new title now fasly implies).
I understand that i COULD go to my dock and open the Application I want to navigate, and then search fo ALL windows to identify the window I actually want.  But that is a LOT of extra steps??  Why the new, limited-functionly Exposé ??  I don't get the advantage ??
Anyway, this is starting to feel like Microsoft trying to over compartmentalize everything for the sake of  some "grand categorization scheme" or some shxt.
Bottom Line: I vote "no keep" on this new Mission Control (now with improved limited Exposé functionality -- just what I always wanted ?!)

    1.  I was unaware that a question needed to be posted.  The service said that this was a "forum" for "discussions", and that I could "Start a new discussion."  I was unaware that this was JEOPARDY™, and all discussions needed to be phrased in the form of a querstion.
    2.  If that is true, I do apologize... and here are my questions:
    A.  Why does the new Exposé suck?
    B.  When is Apple intending to fix it?
    Thank you,
    S

  • Spaces and Exposé don´t work together properly in Leopard

The very first time I activated Spaces, I defined four windows to be controlled with combined F8 key and right mouse button (the mouse being part of the Microsoft Optical Wireless Desktop 1000). But now I cannot use Exposé to open, say, Safari and Firefox in the window #3 - or any other combination of applications previously set to a same specific window in the Spaces preferences pane. I checked up on Microsoft keybord preference pane and the F9 to F11 keys are controlled by Mac OS, as it has been since Tiger. What´s the bug? My Mac OS version is 10.5.1.

This issue was resolved in BPC 5.1 SP3 and subsequentky un-resolved in SP4. I know that in the BPC 7M SP3 release, this is again corrected.  It may have been corrected in BPC 5.1 SP8 as per the plan. I understand your pain, as this has been an open iten for me since last Jan.
    Hope this helps.

  • Exposé hot keys disabled after Time Machine "Delete all backups of file"

I have been having the same problem that was initially mentioned in this topic:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=5850265#5850265
Namely, sometimes after I restart all of my Exposé and Dashboard hot keys have been turned off (but not the Spaces hotkey, just F9-F12). My hot corners for turning off or on the screensaver work just fine, but I have to manually go in and turn back on my Exposé hot keys. Some people said it was associate with WoW, but I am not running World of Warcraft. This last time it happened (this morning), I had removed all backups of a few files in Time Machine (what's the point of having a backup of a rented movie after the 24 hour viewing period has expired?). I have been looking for a way to report this to Apple, but have been unable thus far.
I just tested it to see if you have to restart, and you do not. About thirty minutes ago I turned all the Exposé hot keys on, and just a minute ago I deleted a backup of a file on my Desktop in Time Machine (by selecting, "Delete all backups of file ______") and the hot keys had been disabled again.
Does anyone know if there is a way to fix this?

    Mechanist wrote:
At some point I told Time Machine to get rid of backups of a particular file using the "Delete all backups of ..." option. Time Machine duly deleted the backups of the file and stopped making new ones.
Not exactly.  It did delete the existing backups, but didn't make any new ones because the file hasn't changed since then.
The easiest way to get it to back it up is to make a minor change to it (the name or something in the contents), then change it back.  Time Machine should back it up on the next backup.
Alternatively, you need to force a "deep scan," where Time Machine compares everything on your system to the backups.  Usually, just starting up from your Recovery HD will do that, although sometimes you have to start from it and Repair your internal HD to trigger it.
If you're not sure how to do that, see Using the Recovery HD and/or #6 in Using Disk Utility.

  • How do I delete apps's windows from the new "app exposé"? Particularly Pages-

Hi, I'm having an enourmous trouble with organizing my "recent" (rather ALL GOD **** WINDOWS!!!) documents in apps that support App Exposé. When I do the gesture with 4 fingers moving simoultanously down, it shows the currently opened window along with ALL THE WINDOWS I'VE EVER OPENED IN MY LIFE!!!!!!! What can I do to delete the at least the "windows" that are not even on my mac anymore????? APPLE THINGS ARE SUPPOSED TO JUST WORK! AND ALL I GET IS THEY CRASH, CRASH, CRASH!!!!! DAAAMN THIS! By the way; iCloud is ********!

Thank you very much for your concern! But I do actually know what the App Exposé is. But is it really supposed to show all the windows I've opened within the App in my whole life? When I do the gesture, it shows the opened windows, and beneath them is list of all the documents and windows I've ever opened. Most of them do not even exist anymore. I'd really like them to disappear. And by the way, thanks a lot for teaching me the Command + Tab movement, which brings me up to an another problem; how do I exactly get to know these kinds of gestures? Like… I know the Mission Control, the App Exposé and now I know the App Switcher. But how do I do other ones? For instance, here is a link (http://youtu.be/HWctFWRi77A?t=2m27s) referring to a movement done in Snow Leopard which I doubt would be still presented in Mountain Lion, as I know a lot of great features have been removed since OS X Lion.

  • Word 2008 doesn't work correctly with Exposé ... !

Hi, this is more a bother than anything else, but somehow Word 2008 doesn't work well at all with Exposé, as the windows aren't "recognized" by Exposé and incorrectly delimited ... Anyone having the same problem ? Cheers !

Thanks for your answer. No special circumstances, just that when there's a window in Word 08 and I activate Exposé, the Word window doesn't get highlighted when I hover over it, or the highlight is not aligned on the window ... I don't know if I'm being crystal clear. What's sure is that it's quite hard to select a Word window in Exposé on my computer !

  • Problem with exposé and showing desktop

It never happened with Leopard, but since the upgrade, sometimes Exposé has some kind of problem. The problem is that sometimes, if I drag four fingers down to show expose, when I drag four fingers up to go back to its previous state, it doesn't want to go back to the full size view and bounces back to the expose view.
The only way to get out is by dragging the four fingers in the same direction I did to get in there. It's not a big deal, but sometimes is a waste of time because I drag down to get in, drag up to get out, doesn't want to and then I have to drag down as I did at the beginning. It's totally random and sometimes it also happens when showing the desktop.
Is it a known problem or is it just me?

Good to know that I'm not the only one. I hope there will be an update soon.

  • Global keyboard shortcuts (Exposé, Spotlight, etc.) not working

I've run into an odd problem with my computer--sometime around or after I upgraded to 10.4.8, my global keyboard shortcuts have just flat-out stopped working. I noticed this quickly because I use LaunchBar and it stopped activating when I hit its keyboard shortcut...I noticed the same thing happened with Spotlight, and later, Exposé--when I hit their keyboard shortcuts, nothing happens. Even if I change the shortcut to a new key and hit the new key, nothing happens.
I have tried removing Launchbar completely in case it did something to mess things up (no luck) and have completely reapplied the 10.4.8 combo updater, as well as repair permissions. None of these things have helped?
Any ideas? I'm stumped on this one.

MadFax7 on the Ambrosia Software forums helped me out here (I posted this same post over there as well: http://www.ambrosiasw.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=107371)--he thought (correctly) that it sounded like a preference problem. I discovered the preference through a handy bit of Spotlighting--after deleting com.apple.universalaccess.plist and restarting, all my keyboard shortcuts reset to their defaults and started working again--I'm replying with the answer I found just in case someone else runs into the same problem or just wants to reset all their keybindings.

  • How do I get the features of Exposé back?

How do I get the features of Exposé back? I know that mission control allows you to see your spaces as well as “stacks” of documents in each application, but I want the feature back where I can press a keyboard button and have all my windows of a certain application arrange themselves side by side so I can click the one I want.
I looked up and down the help but can’t figure out how to do this simple thing. I looked in Apple Help and it said:
“Your computer’s Exposé feature makes it easy to find windows, even when your desktop is cluttered. If you have many overlapping windows, Exposé lets you view thumbnail versions of all of them so you can find the one you need.
To see all windows for the current application, press F10.”
    THAT TURNS OFF THE SPEAKER!

Try Fn-F10, and see also the setting in System Preferences
(also try two-finger swipe-up: Spread out application windows in Mission Control)

  • Keyboard settings (Exposé) not saved

I have a new Mac Pro with OS X 10.4.10. I always have used certain keys for Exposé: F9, F10 and F11 WITHOUT shift. So when I got my new computer I disabled a few shortcutset and changed the Exposé ones to my liking. However, after restarting the computer, the setting were reset to default (with Shift). I can't get those settings to stick! Which means I have to change them EVERYTIME I restart my Mac Pro (which is quite often because, just with pre-OS X systems, I have to restart my computer every now and then to get rid of sluggish and laggy behaviour...).
Anyone knows what's causing this? I use Exposé a lot and really hate those Shift-combo's...

Thanks for linked document but I find it funny and someone rude that the article assumes that EVERYONE knows the lingo used - i.e. Profile Folder is in "%APPDATA%\Mozilla\" . Where the hell is that???? Jesus, it's much easier to switch to Chrome.

  • Exposé / application switching broken

I seem to be having a bit of trouble with exposé / application switching, particularly when selecting reveal 'all windows'. Currently this command will reveal all 'application windows' (open within the current application), despite a few button / hot corner tweaks.
I think the problem lies deeper than exposé, as a list of my woes include:
    1. Failure to reveal all windows (as above)
    2. When 'cmd-tab'-ing, an open application often disappears from the list- this has lead me to cmd-tab twice to get to said application which is somewhat frustrating
    3. When cmd-tabbing (or using the dock) to switch applications, the background applications all hide automatically.
I have deleted the dock preferences .plist, and also the system preference .plist, but this does not alter the said erratic behaviour. The problem is specific to my user account- when I log in as someone else everything works perfectly. I do not use Spirited Away, or any auto-hiding add-on: all I use is Quicksilver and the problem persists despite shutting QS down.
In short, I'm stumped. Any suggestions would be welcome.

    Not so fast, Fiachra!
You may be able to repair this with the 10.4.8 Combo Updater.
This is a fuller install, as opposed to an incremental "delta" update so it should overwrite any files that are damaged or missing. It does not matter if you have applied it before. It has worked well for many.
Remember to Verify Disk before updateand repair permissions after update from /Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility.
