Exposure bias EXIF search
Hello yet again,
Using latest Aperture on G4 PB, I have my 5D set to 1/3 stop exposure bias but I am having trouble performing searches for images at specific levels of exposure. When I filter based on 'Exif + exposure bias + greater than/less than/is + -2/-1/0/1/2/' each individual combination works fine. Similarly so when I use 'exposure bias + greater than/less than + -0.3/0.3/-0.7/0.7'. But if I put in 'exposure bias + is + -0.3/0.3/-0.7/0.7' I get no results. With +or-1/3 exposures I worked out that 'exposure bias + is + -0.33 or +0.33' does work. But I cannot get 'exposure bias + is + -0.7/+0.7' to work at all. I tried going through 0.70 to 0.79 but with no success. In the metadata window it shows up as 0.3ev or 0.7ev and I have also tried copying it exactly (including ev) but it doesn't work.
Help!
Ross
The values of exposure bias are:
-2 .........> -2.00
-1 2/3 ..> -1.67
-1 1/3 ..> -1.33
-1 .........> -1.00
-2/3 .....> -0.67
-1/3 .....> -0.33
0 ..........> 0.00
+1/3 ....> +0.33
+2/3 ....> +0.67
+1 .......> +1.00
+1 1/3 > +1.33
+1 2/3 > +1.67
+2 .......> +2.00

Missing aperture/shuttle speed/exposure bias info in the Viewer overlay
With the Viewer overlay enabled and set to "Photo Info - EXIF", I can see all expected info except Aperture, Shuttle Speed and Exposure Bias. These info are displayed in the Inspector with the same view selected.
My computer is iMac 24 (2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo) with 4G RAM, running 10.5.1 and Aperture 1.5.6.
Have anyone seen this problem? I cannot remember if this is also the case in any prior versions.
Thanks in advance.Zekor wrote:

Hi, Zekor
The f-stop should be directly below photo, first above the list, also check to make sure it is checked in the metadata inspector

Metadata: Filter By Exposure Bias
It would be great if one could metadata by exposure bias.
This would be very handy for those of us who shoot with AEB auto exposure bracketing.
Thanks,
Alexander StrossYou are awesome.
It is slighly silly that they didn't include that functionality. Hopefully in a update they can make it happen. It doesn't seem like a difficult fix considering they functionality is already there.
Thanks! I look forward to seeing your pluggin!

OK, dumb question #1.
I've been experimenting with exposure settings, under, exact and over by a couple of stops - but nothing that is over exposed is ever reflected in the metadata, and almost all of the under exposed shots are the same - they show 0ev. I've had some show up with -0.3ev, but only a few.
The camera is a Canon 20D
Cheers
Mike
PowerBook G4 1.67, Powermac G4 DP 1.42 Mac OS X (10.4.4)I have been doing the experimenting on the camera,
setting various exposures both under and over 1/3 and
2/3 of a stop - but Aperture shows them as having the
same exposure bias. The shutter speed varies when I
change the exposure level course, and that is
reflected in Aperture, but the exposure bias isn't.
Sorry, I misunderstood before - there is somethign wierd there. In a brief scan of my own images I see no values for exposure bias in Aperture other than 0ev and -3.0ev - on pictures I do not think I had set that low.
I think I'll submit that as a bug, I suggest others do the same so we can get it out of the way... -
Can Lightroom filter by exposure bias?
I don't see it listed in the metadata options although LR knows it exists. (I don't see metering mode either) Is exposure bias really not a filter option?
Thanks.ANY FILTER plugin by John Ellis will do this

What happened to exposure-related EXIF values in the Metadata panel?
In Bridge CS5, the EXIF section of the Metadata panel would have an "Exposure" entry with info like "1/50 s at f/2.8". This appears to be missing in Bridge CS6. The option is there and checked in Preferences, but it never shows up in the panel itself. I've looked at raw files from the Nikon D700, Nikon D800, Canon 5D and Canon 7D... no exposure information shows up.
I know Bridge/ACR can read the info because it appears in the Metadata Placard, but that is not useful to me. I often need to select a range of images and quickly see if they all have the same exposure. In Bridge CS5, the exposure settings are displayed if they are all the same, otherwise "(multiple values)" is shown. The placard, on the other hand, simply goes blank once multiple images are selected, even though they all share identical exposure settings.
Bug, or "feature"? Bridge CS6 5.0.0.399 64-bit, ACR 7.1.Anyhow, I was just trying to explain why I use the Exposure entry in the EXIF panel. Regardless of why I need it, it still appears to be a bug, since I can enable/disable it in Bridge preferences, yet it appears to have no effect in the panel itself.
Brian,
Sorry, I did get a little carried away and sometimes tend to forget that everyone has it own needs and workflow
Regarding the other posts I can only confirm that as soon as I alter my DNG files the exposure line (that in default settings is not selected in Bridge Preferences BTW) disappears (I have set to not show empty fields) and after clearing settings the line fills back again with the info for exposure.
Did not check other lines but maybe there are even more.
This one seems to have slipped through during the 64 bit transition and you should file it as a bug indeed because CS5 has correct behavior for this.
You might best do so your self (your discovery) on the Photoshop.com page
http://feedback.photoshop.com/photoshop_family/
and inhere select 'a problem' and describe this behavior.
About your workflow, I tried Peters script several years ago but could not get it to work to suit my workflow. I also have no need (nor wish) for such a large production number but having get used to a workflow and not being able to is quite frustrating.
However I have changed my workflow multiple times due to changed options and often it appeared for the better
I only use ACR mainly for color temperature and exposure to bring back highlights. Often with selecting multiple files in Bridge and with right mouse click copy paste ACR data to have a good start but I do need to fine tune a bit afterwards in ACR. Maybe I give the script another go.
My process is based on the excellent ideas from Guy Gowan, who has a remarkable fast and amazing workflow in PS itself using adjustment layers based on channel masks. And after running the process also easy to fine tune with percentages using button mode in action panel.
As said, everyone has his own workflow -
How do I extract my photographs EXIF metadata from Aperture using Automator?
I have the following Automator workflow
Get selected images
Filter for picks
Extract metadata (checked all fields)
New Text file
Open finder item (selected preferred application)
When run the text file just the exif fields has been exported with none of the metadata (eg shuuter speed, ISO etc)
what am I doing wrong?

That's a rough description of the workflow not the workflow.
Include the actual workflow it makes it a whole lot easier to troubleshoot.
Is this what you want?
This is my text file output. No metadata just the field names.

Glitch in on error statement?
I think the following code has a glitch somewhere in the on error statement. When the user chooses cancel in the parts of the script as indicated I get two dialogs displayed--I only want the first one to display. I want the "There are no JPEG files to ID" dialog to display only for the last on error statement. Is my on error syntax wrong or is it something else?

The button named "Cancel" is a special button, i.e. 'cancel button', in 'display dialog' command (unless you define a different cancel button by 'cancel button' parameter in 'display dialog' of AppleScript 1.10 or later).
When cancel button is pressed, display dialog throws error "User canceled" number -128 and the subsequent 'if' statement checking button returned of result is never evaluated. (Try CODE 1 and CODE 1A)
One method you may use for your purpose is something like CODE 2.
Hope this may help,

Bridge - Exposure Camera Data (Exif) metadata display problem
I'm working with raw files with thumbnails displayed in Bridge Content. In Bridge preferences > Metadata I have Exposure and Exposure Bias Value checked on. (These are the first two lines in the metadata panel.) When I select a raw file in Bridge the Exposure and Exposure Bias Value metadata are displayed in Bridge Metadata panel as expected. When I open the raw file in acr 7 and make some edits, click Done in acr and return focus to Bridge, the Bridge thumbnail is updated but the Exposure line in Bridge metadata panel disappears -- the Exposure Bias Value is the first line of the metadata panel. If I clear the settings, the Exposure line and data return to the metadata panel. I also have 'Exposure' selected for one of the additional lines in thumbnail metadata, where the exposure data is correctly displayed even when the exposure metadata line is not shown in the metadata panel.
I do not see this problem in pscs5 with acr 6.7 beta. Is there some setting I need to check or is this a bug?For anyone who may find this post wondering why they can't see the specific EXIF data for each photo... "Show Metadata Placard" may be what you're looking for. Click the drop down at the top right of your Metadata panel and tick "Show Metadata Placard." This will display a panel that looks like the info. panel on your camera (shutter speed, f-stop, iso, white balance, etc.).
I had to figure this out after getting frustrated by the fact that Camera Data (Exif) in the Metadata panel only shows the "Max Aperture Value" of the lens instead of the aperture value that you actually shot. -
After having read a similar thread (What happened to exposure-related EXIF values in the Metadata panel?) which doesn't really answer my question, I got to start a new one:
1) In my Bridge CS5 I want to know the "Exposure" entry with info like "1/50 s at f/2.8" in the meta data placard.
2) So I set this in the Bridge presets / meta data / camera data (Exifs)
by activating "exposure" plus "exposure correction".
3) After that exposure values of jpgs and tiffs show up in Bridge --- so far so good.
4) But next time when opening Bridge this preset has been "forgotten"! Isn't it stupid work to do above number (2) each and every time after starting Bridge?
Looking forward for help...
MtMichelAdobe applications only save their prefereces when you quit them in an orderly fashion.
mtmichel wrote:
…it seems that only if I leave Bridge by File/Exit it remembers changed presets after next pc restart.
You should never, ever leave applications in any other way, only through File > Exit or Control+Q. -
Does iphoto strip some of the exif data from photos? I'm currently using iPhoto as my photo management tool and I also use photoshop elements to do some editing. When I view the photo info in iPhoto, it seems like the data is pretty skimpy.
Specifically, I'm looking for white balance data (right now). I'm taking a photography course and was testing different white balance settings... and those settings aren't showing up in my photo info. I REALLY don't want to have to buy another program like Aperture, especially considering I already have photoshop. If iPhoto has this info somewhere, can you help me find it?!?!
Please help!! Thanks!
ErinErin:
iPhoto doesn't strip the data it just doesn't read all of it. You can get all of the data read by using a 3rd party application likeEXIF Viewer. Just put the app in the Dock and drag a photo from iPhoto onto it. It will open and give you the following information:

TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.≤br>
Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard. -
Copy GPS infos from exif to xmp
Hello,
I would like to copy the gps coordinates from pictures from the exif data to the xmp data to read the information in indesign cs5. How does this could work?
I was sent to this forum, this is the original thread:
http://forums.adobe.com/thread/873022?tstart=0
Thanks for help
ThomasThanks for the example, but it I wonder if Picassa is using it's own format?
This is the information that is in the exif data..

As you can see the GPS data isn't there only date, time and version, does it use Image Unique ID?
I downloded Picassa and Google Earth, the details didn't show in Picassa and nothing came up in Google Earth when trying to view it from Picassa.
Have I missed anything? as I don't use Picassa or Google Earth normally?
Edit: I have also had a look at all the metadata using Exiftool and no further GPS data is available. -
Where is the exposure compensation detail
I am looking for the exposure compensation detail in Lightroom 4.4 but cannot find it.

Thanks Rob
You bet .

Do I just download the plugin
Well, you have to install it too ('Add' using Plugin Manager).
Maddieraz2 wrote:
is it straightforward?
It takes some getting used to, but with practice, it is a very useful plugin indeed.
Worth noting: the plugin doesn't do anything you couldn't do yourself manually by editing .lrtemplate lua files (stored in 'Metadata Field Lists' folder in with Lightroom Presets) with a text editor - the plugin just makes it accessible to all users who can weild a mouse.
To be clear: you don't need a custom preset to see exposure bias, for example you can just select the built-in preset "EXIF". (exposure bias was omitted from the default preset for some reason).
Cheers,

I have been unable to find a way to view complete EXIF info.
I would like something like Irfanview's Info command. Press I and then click on either EXIF or IPTC and get a simple but complete window of data.
LR's Metadata pane is pretty but neither simple or complete.
When I want to see this info, I don't mind using screen space with a pop up.
It would also be great to have more fields available for view in the Loupe View. Why only 3X2? Let me choose if I want more info vs a clean view.LR EXIF:
