Exposure vs. Levels: Differences in Practical Use

I would like to better understand the differences between the Exposure control in the Exposure Adjustment section and the White, Gray and Black Levels sliders in the Levels Adjustment section. For example, I am working on a Raw-format image that is somewhat over-exposed. The Exposure control allows me to force it down by about 6/10 of stop, which seems to do a nice job of adjusting overall exposure, and the results are obvious on the histogram. What I'm not clear on is whether I can achieve the same effect using only the Levels adjustments. I know how to set white and black points in Levels, and understand that the gray level adjusts overall brightness, but is there a way to control exposure with levels or are they two different facets of raw adjustment?

They are two different aspects.
In general, raising the exposure by a stop raises the values of all pixels by the same amount -- say one stop.
If you are familiar with the zone system, then using exposure to change something that is neutral grey (zone 5) and making it white with detail (zone 7), should also pull things that are black (zone 3) to neutral grey (zone 7).
Using levels should not do this -- it is effectively setting black and white points, and it ends up increasing contrast at the same time (because, you could take a low contrast shot, where the histogram was very compressed, and use levels to ensure the photo has a true black point and true white point, thus increasing the dynamic range of the shot).
This is a fairly vague description -- but the way levels and exposure tools work is fairly well detailed, though you'll find a larger breadth of documentation that uses Photoshop as the medium.

  • Logging level differences,,,

Hi, im student who studying ASA ,
and I just wondering about the differences between each logging level ( 0 - 7) informational, debugging, etc.
I was trying to find some of the information and explanation through google, but it was not detail,
when using a command "show logging" what is the role of each logging features? and what is the differences between all of those,
    thanks in advance, !

    Hello Terry,
Well the difference between Syslog levels is the events they are going to log, for example lets say so want to log the failover events, for this  you will need to have at least the error level being logged because if you are  using a lower logging level this  will not publish those events, same thing happens with the logging and debugging levels, so if you use the debugging level witch is the # 7 you will be loggin everything that happens around your ASA,  that is why it is common to hear  that you may have high CPU when you use the debug level.
    Hope this helps,

  • Oracle SLA Metrics and System Level Metrics Best Practices

I hope this is the right forum...
    Hey everyone,
This is what I am looking for. We have several SLA's setup and we have defined many Business Metrics and we are trying to map them to System level metrics. One key area for us is Oracle. I was wondering is there is a best practice guide out there for SLA's when dealing with Oracle or even better, System Level Metric best practices.
Any help would be ideal please.

    Hi
Can you also include the following in the FAQ?
    1) ODP.NET if installed prior to this beta version - what is the best practice ? De-install it prior to getting this installed etc ..
    2) As multiple Oracle home's have become the NORM these days - this being a Client only should probably be non-intrusive and non-invasive.. Hope that is getting addressed.
    3) Is this a pre-cursor to the future happenings like some of the App-Server evolving to support .NET natively and so on??
    4) Where is BPEL in this scheme of things? Is that getting added to this also so that Eclipse and .NET VS 2003 developers can use some common Webservice framework??
    Regards
    Sundar
It was interesting to see options for changing the spelling of Webservice [ the first one was WEBSTER]..

  • Practicable uses of Java?

    Hi,
I'm extremely new to Java, but do have some deep programming knowledge of PHP. Anyway, I'm quite interested in Java and everything... it can seemingly do everything and anything you want it to do, from powering an entire megawebsite, to a simple class. I was just wondering what practicable uses Java has though? Do you only write programs and then execute them in your cmd window? I imagine not, but where else do you use Java? How exactly does Java play in to the "big picture" of things?
Hope this makes sense... if you could... give me examples of programs and websites built entirely with Java.
Just want to know what kind of things you can make with it... besides stuff in your cmd window. :P

Hope this makes sense... if you could... give me examples of programs and websites built entirely with Java.
    This very site! :^)
There is a difference between Java the language and Java Enterprise Edition (J2EE or JEE 5). The latter are generally used for web site creation. There are a number of tutorials on this site. Generally, Java has seemed to find its most successful implementations as middleware, integrating various other systems and servicing a number of clients (of which the web is probably the most popular). Hope that helps.

Also check out the note :
For SCM Add-On Products like SAP SNC, SAP EM, SAP F&R the basis component (SAP Netweaver Release) has to be also assigned as relevant Product Instance
Might be helpful, if you check the product versions being reported for the system in the SLD.

i want to know what's the conference call in community level and how to use it

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Conference calls are got when you reach level 4. Sometimes, ASC hosts may do a conference call about something related to Apple Support Communities. You will be notified through mail or through the "Using Apple Support Communities" forum.
The last community calls were only for level 6 and higher users, so it's possible that you don't get invited to any until you reach level 6

  • Favorite / Best Practice / Useful MTE's ??!?!

    Hi Everyone,
I'm setting up monitoring on a multi-system architecture; i've got all of the agents working and reporting to my CEN. I've even got the auto-response email all set up, great!
I've been looking around for any best practice on what MTE's (out of the 100's there!) I should be setting up virtual and rule based nodes for.
So come on everyone...what are your favorite MTE's. Of course I'm looking at Dialog Response Times, and Filesystem %'s -- but any other tips? hints? tricks? Any neat MTE's out there that you love to check.
A best practice / useful guide would be brilliant?
    Thanks in advance.

How to check ink levels of a 4620 using windows 8.1

    Hi krmoss,
Welcome to the HP Support forums.  I see that you would like to learn how to check the ink levels on your Officejet 4620 printer.
The steps on how to check the estimated ink levels can be found in your User Guide on page 74 in the section titled “To check the estimated ink levels from the printer control panel”.   If you have installed the full feature software and driver for your printer onto your computer you can open up the HP Solution Center and check the from there as well.

  • Tax error: Precedence Level: This Precedence level is already in use.

Customer applied Vertex integration with Oracle Etax ,while update tax juristiction information and apply ,the error is out like below:
Precedence Level: This Precedence level is already in use.
You must create unique precedence levels for tax jurisdictions that apply to the same tax.
Customer wonder precedence level logic .
Is any one know about precedence level?
    Thanks,

This is usually because the drive letter assigned to the network share is taken by something else. Maybe, by a removable drive.
Moderators and other answerers do their best to help specific cases, but everyone has their own situation.  Apply common sense to the replies you find in the forums.
When you typed dir z:  - is Z: the drive letter you wanted for this share, or it was automatically assigned?
    -- pa
Alternatively you could try using common sense when you post, as well as taking the time to read the entire issue post so that you can avoid showing both your ignorance and arrogance (arrogance without any competency to back it I might add).
Suggesting that it might be "another drive" that took over the mapping shows your lack of reading comprehension and is unhelpful.   Please take the time to, once again, read first.
Lastly moderators here generally show little technical skill beyond entering search words into a knowledge-base of articles and then applying the results incorrectly further exacerbating the situation for the customer.

  • Speakerphone option is too low for practical use. Can this be corrected?

I have the iPhone 2G and the speakerphone really ***** (for lack of a better term). I'd like to use it more often but even on its loudest setting its barely audible. Can this be fixed without hacking? Is the 3G significantly louder? Thanks for any insight as I love the phone but may have to switch if this can't be resolved.

You will have to send feedback to Apple as this is a User to User forum.
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html
I agree that the volume is to low for practical use, and the physical aspects don't help. The speaker is one of the tiny holes in the bottom, so you need to aim the end of the iphone at your face to make the most of it.

  • What is the BEST practice - use BO or Java Object in process as webservice

    Hi All,
I have my BP published as web service. I have defined My process input & output as BOs. My BP talks to DB through DAO layer(written in JAVA) which has Java objects. So I have BO as well as java Objects. Since I am collecting user input in BO, I have to assign individual values contained in BO to Java object's fields.
I want to reduce this extra headache & want to use either of BO or Java object.I want to know What is the best practice - use BO or Java object as process input. If it is BO,how I can reuse BOs in Java?
    Thanks in advance.
    Thanks,
    Sujata P. Galinde

    Hi Mark,
Thanks for your response. I also wanted to use java object only. When I use java object as process input argument..it is fine. But when I try to create Process web service, I am getting compilation error - "data type not supported".....
To get rid of this error, I tried to use heir (BO inheriting from java class). But while invoking process as web service, it is not asking for fields that are inherited from java class.
Then I created Business Object with a field of type java class... This also is not working. While sending request, it is giving an error that - field type for fields from java class not found.
Conclusion - not able to use java object as process(exposed as web service) input argument .
What is the Best & feasible way to accomplist the task - Process using DAO in Java & exposed as web service.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Sujata

  • Practical use of a transient VO

hi i am new to ADF and i am slightly confused about the use of the transient view object. i am clear on an updatable VO which is used to update and read only VO whose practical use would be for LOVs and also showing read only data on the UI, . Can some one help me understand the practical use of transient VO and also the VO based on a query. Thanks in advance. I know this is a basic question but i am not getting the practical usage of it.

    Hi,
If you can give some practical approaches where the transient VOs are required that would help me understand the actual concept of transient VO.
    well answer is here. https://blogs.oracle.com/vijaymohan/entry/transient_vo_powerful_j2ee_design_pattern
    go through the second point.
I am pretty aware that the  transient VO doesn't refer to a table/EO/DB and the attributes are created while creating the VO.
    yeah you 're right.
The same VO can be dragged as a form suppose.. but what after that ... what help does it do to a developer in achieving a logic ?
Consider this simple scenario currently fusion web app team don't have a db.so no db fetches for their application. just they use transient vo for grab the details from the end user and manipulate some sort of data show to end user these values live until session lives.
At one point they will send the data via web services.
concern service communicate with some other team and perform insertion and update ion and deletion of data in db.
so here no need to do use entity derived vo. I can't explain much here about whole thing.
    Thanks.
